Only four batters got into double figures for India while all of Australia's frontline bowlers were amongst the wickets to derail the Indian batting line-up that had fired throughout the tournament.</p>

<p>While Rohit and Shubman Gill (4) put in 30 runs for the opening wicket, it was the Aussie bowlers that made the headline. India’s ace seamer sent a batter packing with a Jaffa for the nth time in this tournament. It will be the first time that India will solely host the showpiece event and the ardent Indian cricket fans have their hopes pinned on Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. During the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka, in Guwahati on Tuesday (January 10), former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir -- an integral part of the MS Dhoni-led Indian team when they lifted the ODI World Cup in 2011 (co-hosted by India, SL and Bangladesh) -- narrated an unheard story&nbsp;from the ODI WC final, held 12 years back in Mumbai.</p>

<p>India met Sri Lanka in the title clash in the 2011 edition&nbsp;at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The Islanders rode on Mahela Jayawardene's sublime ton to post a challenging 274 for 6 in 50 overs. In reply, India were 31 for 2 before being 114 for 3 with Gambhir and Dhoni getting together for the fourth wicket. The duo stitched a memorable 109-run stand and took India past the finish line, with six wickets in hand, courtesy of Gambhir's 97 and then captain Dhoni's 91 not out. While Dhoni finished it off in style, with a six in the penultimate over, Gambhir weathered the early storm and set it up for India. He, however, missed out on becoming the first Indian to slam a hundred in the WC final; falling short by three runs.</p>

<p>“MS Dhoni was very supportive because he wanted me to get a 100. He always wanted me to get a hundred. He told me between overs as well that 'get your hundred, take your time and don't rush into it. I can accelerate if there is any need to',” Gambhir revealed.</p>

<p>Despite Dhoni's encouragement, Gambhir fell short of reaching the triple-figure mark. Nonetheless, Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh (21 not out) took India home as they lifted the mega title after 28 years. Will Rohit &amp; Co. replicate the same feat later this year? Only time will tell...<br />

<p>The stage is set for the FIFA World Cup 2022 final on Sunday evening (December 18). France and Argentina will lock horns in what is expected to be an epic finale at the Lusail Stadium, Qatar. Argentina started their campaign with a loss to Saudi Arabia but have been on a five-match winning streak since then. Defending champions France, on the other hand, lost one match in the group stage -- to Tunisia -- but have been at their best to reach this far, beating the likes of England and a high-flying Morocco in the knockouts.</p>

<p>Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif in a tweet said it was difficult to digest the regulation. He further said it would have been better to share the trophy than deciding on more boundaries.</p>

<p>"Difficult to digest this more boundary rule. Something like sudden death- continuous super overs till a result is a better solution. Understand, wanting a definite winner but sharing a trophy is better than deciding on more boundaries. Very tough on New Zealand," Kaif said.</p>

<p>Yuvraj Singh, the former India cricketer, said he does not agree with the rule. He congratulated England but also acknowledged the fight displayed by New Zealand.</p>

<p>"I don't agree with that rule ! But rules are rules congratulations to England on finally winning the World Cup, my heart goes out for the kiwis they fought till the end. Great game an epic final!!!!" Yuvraj said.</p>

<p>Former Australia speedster Brett Lee said it was a horrible way to decide the winner. He also urged that the rule should be changed.</p>
