She limped off the field and has not been seen in action since.</p>

<p>Her returns with the bat haven't been great and scored 8, 22 and 18 in three matches before going off injured. She adds to the already injured plagued squad of Gujarat Giants who have only one win in five WPL matches so far. Gujarat are already without Kashvee Gautam and Australia's Lauren Cheatle due to several medical reasons. <p>DC struck early with Marizanne Kapp removing dangerous Hayley Matthews for a two-ball duck. Mumbai Indians didn't let their heads drop with Yastika Bhatia taking the onus of scoring runs. MI finished the powerplay with a score of 50/1 but DC bounced back immediately with Arundhati Reddy dismissing Nat Sciver-Brunt (19) before her innings could take flight.</p>

<p>Yastika stitched up a crucial 56-run stand with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur to steady MI's sinking ship. Yastika (57) raised her bat after completing her half-century but lost her wicket moments after as Reddy struck once again to bag her second wicket of the night. WPL 2024: UP Warriorz launch new look kit ahead of upcoming season

<p>With the second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) set to happen this year, India wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia said she is excited to wear the Mumbai Indians jersey when the tournament begins and felt she had a memorable time with the franchise last year.</p>

<p>Acquired by Mumbai for INR 1.5 crore in the inaugural WPL auction, Yastika made 214 runs in 10 innings, at an average of 21.4 and strike-rate of 112.04. She also affected 13 dismissals from behind the stumps as the franchise won their maiden WPL title in their home city. Yastika was also a recipient of the WPL emerging player of the season award.</p>

<p>“It was memorable. Nobody had an idea about how things would pan out. But the way we were welcomed into the team, we were made to feel like family. We would spend a lot of time talking about how we could improve our game.”</p>

<p>“I am really looking forward to the forthcoming edition of the WPL. I can’t wait to wear the Mumbai Indians jersey and go back to the ground. It’s a completely different feeling being part of MI,” said Yastika to broadcasters JioCinema.</p>

<p>Yastika has been a member of the Indian team across all formats since 2021 and recalled the moment when the news of a maiden call-up to the national team came. “Everyone was happy. My father and mother were in tears. They acknowledged that my efforts had paid off.”</p>

<p>“Even I was happy, but at the same time I was focusing on the fact that I had to help India win the series and then help the team win the World Cup. I realised that my responsibility had increased.”</p>

<p>“Before my debut, Smriti di had hinted that that I might make my debut and helped me calm down. She advised me to play the same way I used to play for Baroda. That series against Australia went off well.”</p>

<p>“But till the time I made my debut, self-doubt had begun creeping in. But at the same time, I was working on improving my game. I was also speaking to Kiran (More) Sir about how I could take my game to the next level,” she elaborated.</p>

<p>Talking of her early life, Yastika said she was into various sports before cricket came calling. “I liked playing sports since childhood. I would go for swimming, karate and badminton. But I never thought cricket would become my career because academics were as important growing up. One of my neighbours used to play Ranji Trophy.”</p>

She emphasised the cultural shift, saying, “Women in India are doing amazing stuff in the last five to 10 years not only in women's cricket but in women's sport in general. If you see the last Olympics or Commonwealth or Asian Games, the kind of medals women's athletes have gone and got for the country is a big inspiration for a lot of smaller city girls out there to pursue their passion. I think women's sports in general should be treated separately and by doing that they can definitely sell a lot of things in terms of the ticketing or the digital rights.”</p>

<p>When asked about the areas women’s cricket needs in terms of further investment or further focus to keep propelling forward, Mandhana suggested focusing on the grassroots level. “The only thing that we could invest in is the grassroots level of women's sport in general because a lot of interest is developed with the Indian Women's team or the WPL tournament. Invest more so that we get a lot more cricketers women cricketers,” she remarked.</p>

<p>With the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the spotlight, the BCCI on Saturday (Dec 2) announced dates for the auctions. Franchises announced their retention list recently after which a lot of the latest players were registered for the auctions. 60 players were retained by the six franchises including 21 from the overseas contingent. The auctions will see 104 Indian players part of the auctions while 61 overseas players have registered their names.</p>

<p>On November 24 the WPL commission set December 9 as the auction date with players going under the hammer. The registration for the auctions took place until December 1 with players from different parts of the world enrolling their name.</p>

<p>Dottin will be the star attraction during the auctions as she comes with a pedigree on the international stage with the West Indies. Interestingly, she withdrew from the 2023 WPL edition and opted not to be registered for Gujarat Giants. She was purchased for Rs 60 lakh during the first auction and was consequently replaced by Kim Garth. However, the Australian was also let go by the franchise during the off-season.</p>

<p>Showering praises on Jhulan, whom she aspired to emulate while growing up, Harman said it was an emotional moment for her and the team.</p>

<p>“It was a very emotional moment for me. Growing up for us, she (Jhulan)was the cricketer leading the Indian women’s cricket team, and when I got the opportunity to play with her, she was always very nice to me."</p>

<p>"She taught me how I can adopt to international cricket. When you have a friend like that, a teammate like that, who can make you learn things quickly, you always respect her."</p>

<p>"When we got to know that it was her last series, we wanted to win it at all costs. We were really pumped up. We wanted to play our best cricket for her. And I’m really happy that we did really well, won all three games,” she added.</p>

<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling the possibility of staging the Women’s Premier League (WPL) during a winter window as they try to engage more audience. The inaugural edition that was played in Mumbai in 2023 could be further expanded to a home-away format in the future according to Joint Secretary Jay Shah. The idea to move the WPL to the winter window could see the premier competition take place during the Hindu festival of Diwali.</p>

<p>"We are mulling the possibility of scheduling the WPL, in the home and away format, in the Diwali window; not two seasons in a year but just a different time window," Shah said during an interaction with mediapersons.</p>

<p>"Women's cricket now has a dedicated audience base and this number will only keep growing as we expect an encouraging turnout at the next WPL,” Shah further added.</p>

<p>The inaugural edition of the WPL was a huge success after Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals in the final in March. Harmanpreet Kaur’s army beat Delhi in a one-sided contest with all matches taking place in Mumbai at the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium.</p>

<p>The possibility of playing the WPL second edition during Diwali later in the year could have a remote possibility. One of the main reasons for this is ODI World Cup, which takes place later in the year from October 5 to November 19. The Diwali festival which will start on November 12 will coincide with the ODI World Cup, further ruling away the possibility of staging the tournament in 2023.</p>

<p>Shah also commented on the media rights deal for the Indian team as a meeting is scheduled in June and July. The board is likely to close the deal before Afghanistan but the deal is likely to come into effect from the Australia series later in the year before the ODI World Cup.</p>

<p>"The BCCI Media Rights tender will be on schedule this year (June-July) and will depend on the Afghanistan tour, but more likely, the process will start from the Australia series. The Board will speak to all stakeholders concerned and will come up with an interim decision," BCCI secretary Shah said on Friday.</p>

If we don’t, then I am not going to go to my grave thinking that if only I had won an IPL, I would be a happy man. It doesn’t happen like that. So always think about the opportunity that you have rather than how bad it is right now."</p>

<p>He added, "There is always a flip side to it, and it could always be worse than this. And the fact that we haven’t won the IPL, but I still feel that we have the best fans in the world. The first 14 overs really hurt us, even 10-15 runs more would have helped. Towards the fag-end of the tournament, the wickets are going to get slower. Even in the last game, spinners got the ball to turn and pace-off and slower balls were working."</p>

<p>Bangalore came closest to win a match against Gujarat as they lost by a only 11 runs while chasing a mammoth total of 202. Their next drubbing was the worst among all as they lost against the UP Warriorz women by 10 wickets after scoring 138 runs in their innings.</p>

<p>The last of their five defeats came against the Delhi Capitals again as they lost by six wickets after scoring 150 runs with Perry top scoring for them, scoring 67.</p>

The Australian ace suffered a calf strain while batting in the second innings of the match between the Gujarat Giants and the Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium on 4 March.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mooney, however, did return to training subsequently but for her to recover to full fitness and complete her rehabilitation, it is likely to take 4-6 weeks.&nbsp; “I was really looking forward to the maiden WPL season with the Adani Gujarat Giants. But unfortunately, injuries are part and parcel of the sport and I am gutted to be missing the remainder of the season. I, however, will be keeping a close eye on the team’s performance from afar and will be rooting for them every single day. "</p>

<p>"And though I will be away from the field of play for the rest of the season, I am looking forward to coming back stronger, fitter and I will definitely be hungrier next season.
