<h2>Pierce Brosnan as James Bond</h2>Pierce Brosnan famously played the iconic British secret agent in four feature films, including GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day between 1995 and 2002.&nbsp;He is credited with successfully revitalising the franchise after a six-year gap following Timothy Dalton's tenure. The actor was replaced by Daniel Craig in the 2006 film Casino Royale. He went on to portray the role in four more films until 2021.&nbsp;Post Craig’s exit, the makers are still on the hunt for the next James Bond with several names being discussed as options.&nbsp;When The Times asked who would be the perfect choice to play Bond next, Brosnan said that “there are lots of good hats in the ring” and “lots of great actors” being considered. “I see it. I follow it. They could probably just go left-field and pick someone that none of us knows about," he said.&nbsp;When asked to reveal a name, the actor responded, “I wouldn't pick anyone. My wife told me not to say anything, and I've said too much. Because once I say something it goes [everywhere] and I get hanged.”&nbsp;Pierce Brosnan will next be seen in Chris Hemsworth-starrer Extraction 3.

Pierce Brosnan attended the US Open 2026 final on Sunday and stole the spotlight briefly as the camera gave a hat tip to beloved character James Bond, which the actor had played famously in the early 1990s.

‘Absolute cinema’: Pierce Brosnan’s 007 moment at US Open 2026 final leaves fans gushing

Alexander Zverev is the new US Open champion – his second Grand Slam title in the space of three months after winning the French Open at Roland Garros earlier this year. The German, who was seeded No. 1 for the tournament, beat local boy Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 on Sunday (Sep 13) at Arthur Ashe Stadium for the title. He was very emotional after the win and even revealed how his mother defied all odds to ensure he got to be what he is today.<h2>Zverev reveals being diagnosed with diabetes at age 4</h2>Speaking at the post-match presentation, Zverev credited his mother for his success and said: "When your 4-year-old son gets diagnosed with diabetes and doctors in the office tell you that life and sports will be very limited for that child, it takes a very, very strong mother to walk out of those offices and say ‘My son will be whatever he wants to be.’ If he wants to be a tennis player, he’ll be a tennis player. Alexander Zverev held off Ben Shelton to win the US Open on Sunday, capturing the second Grand Slam of his career just months after winning the French Open. The top-seeded German ruthlessly snuffed out a late surge by Shelton to triumph 6-3, 7-6 (7/2), 5-7, 6-2, crushing the eighth seed's hopes of becoming the first US man in 23 years to win a Grand Slam title. Zverev expunged the bitter memory of his 2020 US Open defeat, when he was two points from victory before falling to Dominic Thiem in five sets.Also Watch - <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/watch-aryna-sabalenka-smashes-racquet-after-us-open-final-defeat-to-rybakina-1789287174441">Aryna Sabalenka smashes racquet after US Open final defeat to Rybakina</a>It would be six years -- with two major finals disappointments -- before he would break through this season."I think God has seen how hard we worked, how much we suffered, how much pain we went through and I think 2026 is the outcome of all the years that happened before," Zverev said at the trophy presentation.The 23-year-old Shelton was one month shy of his first birthday when Andy Roddick hoisted the 2003 US Open trophy in the last major triumph for a US man.Hopes were high that Shelton could end the drought after his epic five-set quarter-final victory over defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, and a come-from-behind win over compatriot Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals.But Zverev's all-court excellence proved too much for Shelton, despite the support of a star-studded Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd trying to will the American to victory.With their backing, Shelton surged in the third set, eliminating the errors that Zverev had ruthlessly exploited.Serving to extend the set, Zverev fell behind 0-40. Shelton fired long on his first set point but on the second Zverev's forehand volley went wide. Shelton had his first break of the match and they were headed to a fourth set.Zverev, however, responded immediately and decisively, breaking Shelton in the first game of the fourth set and rolling home.He lifted his arms in triumph after Shelton fired a serve return long on match point and finally received his own huge cheer from the crowd -- but not before some prompting.Zverev said he didn't initially realize he'd won because he had lost track of the score."I knew I broke him twice, but I thought it was 5-1 instead of 6-2, which helped me in a way, because I didn't really get nervous serving out the match," Zverev said."In that moment I was in the zone a lot. I didn't hear noise at all. Then also, of course, when the crowd is loud, it's impossible to hear the umpire, so I didn't hear that she said, 'Game, set, match.'"Zverev had followed up his French Open victory with a runner-up finish at Wimbledon.But his New York prospects had looked bleak as he labored through two five-setters to start the tournament.Now the 29-year-old ranked second in the world has a chance to challenge for the number one ranking with Italian Jannik Sinner currently sidelined by a knee injury.With this win, Zverev said he might consider himself the best player in the world "right, right now.""If everyone is healthy, I think Jannik is still ahead."<h2>Very few chances</h2>Shelton had entered to a massive ovation but from the start the sharpness that carried him past Alcaraz and Tiafoe was lacking.Zverev, with utter calm and a superb serve, quickly asserted his authority with a break in the first game, Shelton double faulting on break point.Eight games later the American double faulted on set point.Shelton rallied from 0-30 down to force the second-set tiebreaker, but was helpless as Zverev roared to a 5-0 lead and took a two-sets-to-none lead with a service winner.Shelton gave it all he had in the third, hitting the deck as he chased one blistering Zverev forehand. Although he capitalized on uncharacteristic errors from the German to extend the match there was no stopping Zverev in the final set."I made too many errors when I had the ball there on my strings," Shelton said. "I wasn't amazing attacking on my forehand today. I wasn't great in transition."It's not easy," he added. "Playing a guy like him there's very few chances."

But Zverev's all-court excellence proved too much for Shelton, despite the support of a star-studded Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd trying to will the American to victory. With their backing, Shelton surged in the third set, eliminating the errors that Zverev had ruthlessly exploited. Serving to extend the set, Zverev fell behind 0-40. Shelton fired long on his first set point but on the second Zverev's forehand volley went wide. Shelton had his first break of the match and they were headed to a fourth set. Zverev, however, responded immediately and decisively, breaking Shelton in the first game of the fourth set and rolling home. He lifted his arms in triumph after Shelton fired a serve return long on match point and finally received his own huge cheer from the crowd -- but not before some prompting. Zverev said he didn't initially realize he'd won because he had lost track of the score. "I knew I broke him twice, but I thought it was 5-1 instead of 6-2, which helped me in a way, because I didn't really get nervous serving out the match," Zverev said. "In that moment I was in the zone a lot. I didn't hear noise at all. Then also, of course, when the crowd is loud, it's impossible to hear the umpire, so I didn't hear that she said, 'Game, set, match.'" Zverev had followed up his French Open victory with a runner-up finish at Wimbledon. But his New York prospects had looked bleak as he labored through two five-setters to start the tournament. Now the 29-year-old ranked second in the world has a chance to challenge for the number one ranking with Italian Jannik Sinner currently sidelined by a knee injury. With this win, Zverev said he might consider himself the best player in the world "right, right now." "If everyone is healthy, I think Jannik is still ahead." Very few chances Shelton had entered to a massive ovation but from the start the sharpness that carried him past Alcaraz and Tiafoe was lacking. Zverev, with utter calm and a superb serve, quickly asserted his authority with a break in the first game, Shelton double faulting on break point. Eight games later the American double faulted on set point. Shelton rallied from 0-30 down to force the second-set tiebreaker, but was helpless as Zverev roared to a 5-0 lead and took a two-sets-to-none lead with a service winner. Shelton gave it all he had in the third, hitting the deck as he chased one blistering Zverev forehand. Although he capitalized on uncharacteristic errors from the German to extend the match there was no stopping Zverev in the final set. "I made too many errors when I had the ball there on my strings," Shelton said. "I wasn't amazing attacking on my forehand today. I wasn't great in transition. "It's not easy," he added. "Playing a guy like him there's very few chances."

The top-seeded German ruthlessly snuffed out a late surge by Shelton to triumph 6-3, 7-6 (7/2), 5-7, 6-2, crushing the eighth seed's hopes of becoming the first US man in 23 years to win a Grand Slam title.&nbsp;

The 2026 US Open is drawing to a close, with only a handful of matches remaining in the men's and women's singles events before the winners are decided. There's one player, however, who has stolen the spotlight: Teo Davidov, the 16-year-old US prodigy from Denver, Colorado, who is captivating fans at the US Open Boys' Junior event. What makes him unique is his ability to hit a forehand and serve with both hands, rarely relying on a backhand. He is the only player in the men's, women's, or junior events at this year's US Open who plays almost exclusively with forehands. He can hit a backhand but doesn't bother with it, being the ambidextrous player he is.<h2>Who is Teo Davidov?</h2>Davidov has been on the junior circuit for five years now, and a four-year-old video of him outplaying Carlos Alcaraz's brother Jamie at a tournament in Greece in 2022 is wildly popular on YouTube. Now, the teenager is 5-foot-7 and has become much sharper in his shot-making.

The match marked a rare instance in which two-time Grand Slam champion Gauff, still only 22, faced a younger American in the 18-year-old Jovic, who pushed Gauff in the second set after being routed in the first. "She plays beyond her years," Gauff said. "I'm looking to many more battles out here." Also Read - Rival driver saves fellow racer from burning car in daring rescue at China GT Gauff said she served "really well" and called the win, along with a second-round victory over Spain's Paula Badosa, her best matches so far this year. Gauff has yet to lose a set so far in New York and has pointed to an improved serve as a source of confidence. "I'm able to rely on a lot of different things to win points in many different ways, and I think that gives me a confidence," Gauff said after Monday's match. Broken to open the contest, Gauff reeled off six straight games to take the first set. Gauff said some of the marathon rallies left her breathless, but she came out on top of them more often than not. Jovic picked up the pace in the second set, rushing the net behind strong shots to keep Gauff on the defensive. Their net exchanges won loud applause from fans, and Gauff finished the match with a surprise serve-and-volley ambush, landing a volley that Jovic couldn't put back in play. Gauff will next face French Open champion and fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva of Russia in the quarter-finals. Gauff has won all five of their prior meetings. Despite the strong record against Andreeva, Gauff noted that most of the matches have been close. In their last contest, Gauff defeated Andreeva 6-4 in the third set in the quarter-finals of Rome, shortly before Andreeva's Paris triumph. "She's obviously in a different mindset now, at the top of the game, coming off a Grand Slam win," Gauff said of the Russian. "So I expect her to approach the match completely differently from in the past."

Gauff said she served "really well" and called the win, along with a second-round victory over Spain's Paula Badosa, her best matches so far this year.

"Happy with the level I played today, happy with the focus," said Sabalenka, who will face Uzbekistan's Kamilla Rakhimova for place in the round of 16. Jessica Pegula and former champion Daniil Medvedev also raced into the third round. World number three Pegula needed just 56 minutes to trounce Sofia Kenin, the former Australian Open champion now ranked 110th, 6-3, 6-1. Seventh-seeded Medvedev downed US wild card Sebastian Gorzny 6-1, 6-3, 7-5. Pegula, who is among a trio of players who could supplant Sabalenka atop the world rankings in New York, dropped just seven points on serve. "I was just trying to stay focused on what I needed to do," said the 2024 US Open runner-up, who next meets another former finalist in Canadian Leylah Fernandez - a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Thailand's Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4, 6-1. Medvedev, who has struggled in the hard court build-up to the year's final Grand Slam, dominated 731st-ranked Gorzny. Battle to the end Eighth-seeded American Ben Shelton prevailed in a tense "battle to the end" with former world number six Hubert Hurkacz 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7/3), 7-5. His 11th-seeded compatriot Frances Tiafoe also advanced holding off Japanese qualifier Rei Sakamoto 6-3, 7-6 (7/2), 7-5. Another American tipped as a contender -- in-form 16th-seed Brandon Nakashima -- bowed out, upset by 46th-ranked compatriot Alex Michelsen 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Argentina's Mariano Navone backed up his epic five-set upset of Serbian star Novak Djokovic with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) victory over Italian Matteo Berrettini. Outside the covered confines of Ashe and the Louis Armstrong Stadium, rain again disrupted play. Sixth-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur finally got his campaign underway in a match postponed from Tuesday but had to wait out another mid-match rain delay on the way to a 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 first-round victory over Italian Andrea Guerrieri. Lucky loser Bu Yunchaokete of China pulled off a first-round upset, stunning 12th-seeded Spaniard Rafael Jodar 6-2, 6-1, 6-1. Jodar committed 37 unforced errors with just 15 winners in a humbling defeat for the 19-year rising ATP star, who won the ATP title in Marrakech this year and reached the final in Washington and the semis in Montreal recent weeks.

Carlos Alcaraz rallied past Jaime Faria in four sets while Aryna Sabalenka stormed into the US Open third round with a 53-minute win, leading contenders Jessica Pegula and Daniil Medvedev through.

While this is not yet tied to an agreed revenue-sharing formula, players remain committed to that principle and will continue to work with each of the grand slams toward that goal," said a player spokesperson as reported by the Guardian.The new $2 million fund by the US Open for player benefits also puts pressure on the other grand slams to come up or replicate the same steps.
