Other contributions include $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which supports Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's Senate campaign, and another $10 million to the Republican Governors Association. US Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday (October 12) accused the Trump administration of political intimidation after federal investigators searched her Washington, DC-area home. The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed that the search was conducted as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Omar, a Democratic representative from Minnesota, addressed the incident in a post on X, writing, "I'm ok," while alleging that the search was an attempt to target political opponents and misuse federal law enforcement powers. "Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponise federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns.
Democratic leaders criticise search
Senior Democratic leaders in the US House of Representatives criticised the search in a joint statement shared by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries on X. The statement was also associated with Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar. The search took place early Monday at the Washington, DC-area residence of Omar, who has frequently been a target of criticism from President Donald Trump and members of his administration, according to a Justice Department spokesperson and a source familiar with the matter.

Search raises questions ahead of midterm elections
The search has drawn attention because it comes just weeks before the US midterm elections, in which Omar is seeking re-election to Congress. The timing is particularly significant in Minnesota, where voting is already underway. According to data from the Minnesota secretary of state's office cited in the report, more than 127,000 people had already cast their ballots. The use of a judicially authorised search warrant against a sitting member of Congress and election candidate so close to an election is an unusual development that is likely to intensify political scrutiny. The DOJ has maintained that the search forms part of an ongoing criminal investigation, but it has not provided further details about the case. Omar, meanwhile, has framed the search as an attempt to intimidate political opponents and has vowed not to be silenced.

As Democrats look to make gains in the November 3 US midterm elections, two phrases have become part of the political conversation: a “blue wave” and a “blue tsunami”. Both point to the same possibility – a strong Democratic performance – but they suggest very different scales of victory. For President Donald Trump and Republicans, the difference could be crucial. A Democratic victory could shift control of Congress and make the remaining two years of Trump’s term considerably harder.
A ‘blue wave’ is more than a routine win
In US politics, blue is associated with the Democratic Party. A “blue wave” describes an election in which Democrats win seats in significant numbers, often overturning Republican-held districts and gaining ground beyond their traditional strongholds. The phrase does not have a fixed numerical definition. Its meaning depends on the scale of the gains and what they deliver. If Democrats win control of the House of Representatives, for instance, they could gain the power to block Republican legislation, scrutinise the administration and launch congressional investigations. That would leave Trump facing a Congress less willing to back his agenda.
When does a wave become a tsunami?
A “blue tsunami” suggests a much bigger electoral swing. It is used when Democratic gains are so extensive that they go well beyond what political observers expected, potentially putting even relatively safe Republican seats at risk. There is no official seat count that turns a blue wave into a blue tsunami. The distinction is largely rhetorical, with “tsunami” conveying the scale and force of an unexpected political backlash.Such an outcome would be particularly damaging for Republicans if Democrats captured both chambers of Congress rather than just the House.
What is at stake for Trump?
All 435 seats in the House are up for election, alongside 35 Senate seats in 2026. The two contests will determine whether Republicans retain control of Congress or Democrats gain the power to challenge the president more directly. The economy, particularly the cost of living, could weigh on voters’ decisions. Midterm elections often serve as a referendum on the party occupying the White House, although local candidates and issues also matter. For Democrats, a wave would mean a substantial breakthrough. A tsunami would signal something bigger: a rejection of Republicans on a scale that could reshape the balance of power in Washington.

The White House, as per reports, has asked the Pentagon to develop military options for striking Iranian targets ahead of the upcoming US midterm elections. Citing two unnamed US administration officials, The Atlantic reported that the scale and targets of any potential operation remain under discussion, and no decision has been made to launch strikes. The US Central Command, which is overseeing the war effort, is preparing options, it added. Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed's criticism of former US President Barack Obama has came into limelight after it was announced that Obama will campaign for him later this month. Kamala Harris, former vice president, campaigned with El-Sayed last month. From 2012 to 2020, El-Sayed blamed Obama for war and termed his Affordable Care Act as ‘insufficient’. Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed's criticism of former US President Barack Obama has came into limelight after it was announced that Obama will campaign for him later this month. El-Sayed criticized Obama's presidency several times as a failure, saying it left the country no "better off." Former President Obama will campaign alongside El-Sayed in Detroit on Oct 24. Kamala Harris, former vice president, campaigned with El-Sayed last month. From 2012 to 2020, El-Sayed blamed Obama for war and termed his Affordable Care Act as ‘insufficient’. He went on to argue that Obama's incremental approach helped create the conditions for Donald Trump's rise. El-Sayed faces Republican Mike Rogers in a tight Michigan Senate race that could help determine control of the chamber. The campaign has also become a major financial contest as Republican-aligned groups have poured tens of millions of dollars into advertising supporting Paxton, while Democratic organisations have invested heavily in Talarico. The huge spending reflects the importance both parties attach to Texas and the Senate seat. Paxton has to bring together competing elements of the Republican Party, including establishment conservatives, Trump-aligned voters and Republicans concerned about party unity. On the other hand, the task for Talarico is to translate Democratic gains among suburban and independent voters into a statewide coalition. Republicans hold most statewide offices and maintain substantial advantages in many parts of the state while Democrats see opportunities created by demographic and political changes. A strong Republican showing in the midterms could reinforce the party’s hold on Texas, while a competitive Democratic performance would intensify debate over the state’s changing political landscape. Early voting begins October 19, while November 3 is the election day. The Paxton-Talarico contest will be closely watched and test the strength of Texas Republicans, while it will also reveal how a party divided by its primary can reunite when faced with a serious general-election challenge.

Money from the cryptocurrency industry is playing a subtle but crucial role in the US midterm elections. From crypto-millionaire donors to crypto-linked super political action committees (super PACs), millions of dollars are flowing into the 2026 election campaign. Crypto companies have contributed roughly $206 million this election cycle, according to analyses by groups like Public Citizen based on Federal Election Commission (FEC) data. This makes crypto the largest corporate source of political contributions tracked so far, ahead of online betting and Big Tech and artificial intelligence companies. The figure has already surpassed the industry's $170 million contribution in the 2024 cycle. Some of the money is going to non-crypto-specific groups such as MAGA Inc., a super PAC aligned with President Donald Trump. The scale of the spending raises an important question: who are the people and organisations making this push, and what do they want? Here is a primer.
Top donors to major crypto PACs
The most prominent groups are the Fairshake network, Protect Progress, Defend American Jobs and the Digital Freedom Fund. They are backed by a relatively small group of crypto companies, venture capital firms and executives.Fairshake is the crypto industry's flagship bipartisan super PAC. Its major backers include Coinbase, Ripple Labs and Andreessen Horowitz, also known as a16z. As of 30 June, Fairshake had received almost $137 million in the 2026 election cycle and had about $127 million in cash on hand, according to FEC filings.Fairshake itself reported about $138 million in receipts in the 2026 cycle by the middle of the year, while the broader network is larger when its affiliated committees and transfers are included. The Digital Freedom Fund is a Republican-leaning super PAC backed heavily by Winklevoss Capital, associated with Gemini co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. It reported $22.4 million in receipts through 30 June 2026. More than $21 million came from Winklevoss Capital Fund LLC. Payward Inc. contributed $1 million and investor Naval Ravikant contributed $100,000.https://www.wionews.com/videos/trump-administration-gains-access-to-voter-data-1790408108603/embed
What do they want? Why crypto firms and associated individuals are among the top corporate political donors in the midterms
The funding , which goes to both Republicans and Democrats, is mainly aimed at electing and protecting candidates who support clearer federal rules for digital assets such as cryptocurrencies. The industry's political spending also supports independent advertising that does not always mention crypto directly. In many cases, the ads focus on candidates' broader records or other issues rather than explicitly discussing cryptocurrency policy. This approach was also prominent during the 2024 election cycle. Also read: Bitcoin surges above $85,000 as nearly $900 million in crypto positions are liquidated: Is the crypto winter over?
More about Fairshake and others: Funding both sides
Fairshake is an issue-focused group that backs pro-crypto candidates who favour American innovation in both parties. Its broader objective is to expand a pro-crypto congressional caucus.Fairshake transfers funds to its two main partisan affiliates: Defend American Jobs, which is Republican-focused, and Protect Progress, which is Democrat-focused. This allows the network to support candidates from both major parties while concentrating on their positions on digital-asset policy.Across the Fairshake network, receipts have reached hundreds of millions of dollars when the affiliated committees and wider corporate contributions are included. Fairshake and its affiliates have also spent tens of millions of dollars on primaries and early general-election activity. Fairshake has also announced a planned $30 million campaign against Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio. The spending is part of the industry's broader effort to influence races involving candidates viewed as supportive or hostile to crypto legislation.Digital Freedom Fund, a Republican-leaning super PAC backed heavily by the Winklevoss interests, is focused on Republican candidates supporting crypto-friendly policies. Its objectives include self-custody rights, developer protections, banking access for crypto firms and opposition to a US central bank digital currency.Stand With Crypto Alliance, a Coinbase-backed advocacy and pressure group, has also built a large grassroots base. In 2025, it reported more than 2.6 million advocates and chapters in all 50 states. By late September 2026, the organisation was referring to more than three million advocates. It grades politicians on their crypto positions, organises events and meetings with lawmakers, and supports candidates through endorsements and advertising.Smaller or related entities, such as Fellowship PAC, have also been active in some races.Beyond direct campaign spending, the crypto industry has deployed lobbyists, advocacy groups and executive engagement. Industry representatives regularly meet senators and House members from both parties to push legislation and influence agency rules. Also read: Trump minted over $1 billion from crypto dealings in first year back in office
Who are the crypto millions supporting?
During primaries, Fairshake had backed candidates in 57 races and won 53 of them by early October. On Monday, (Oct 5, Fairshake announced support for 32 House incumbents: 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats. All of the candidates supported in this latest round had voted for the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act when it passed the House in 2025.Among the Democratic House representatives receiving support are Janelle Bynum, Steven Horsford and Derek Tran. Republican priorities include Representatives French Hill, chair of the House Financial Services Committee, Bill Huizenga and Bryan Steil, who has a role on the committee's digital-assets subcommittee.Other Republicans supported by crypto money include Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach and Jason Smith. Democratic candidates supported by the industry include Pete Aguilar and Josh Gottheimer, among others.
Crypto industry's priority is to reduce regulatory uncertainty
The crypto industry has been rooting for the passage of market-structure legislation such as the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act. The bill passed the House in 2025 by 294-134, but failed to advance in the Senate in September after a procedural vote fell short of the 60 votes needed. The Senate vote was 49-50, according to Reuters. The legislation aimed to clarify the respective jurisdictions of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) over digital assets. It also sought to establish rules for crypto issuance and trading and registration requirements for intermediaries, while reducing uncertainty created by enforcement-led regulation. The failure of the legislation has shifted the industry's focus towards the next Congress and continuing Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission rulemaking. The industry is also building on the earlier GENIUS Act, which had established a federal framework for stablecoins.Other areas of interest include banking access and integration of crypto firms with payment rails, as well as greater tax clarity on issues such as crypto mining, staking and rewards. The industry also wants clearer rules for peer-to-peer transactions while some advocacy groups oppose overly restrictive regulations and a retail central bank digital currency.
Money matters, but criticism is there too
Critics, including Public Citizen, oppose the use of unlimited super PAC spending to prioritise corporate policy goals over party loyalty. They argue that large contributions give companies and wealthy individuals greater leverage over candidates and public policy, including through both supportive and attack advertisements. The scale of crypto spending has therefore turned the 2026 midterms into an important test of how much influence a rapidly expanding industry can exert over Congress and the rules governing digital assets.

Crypto firms and investors are pouring hundreds of millions into the US midterms through super PACs and cash donations and campaign ads. They are backing pro-crypto candidates from both Republican and Democratic parties, seeking clearer digital-asset rules after the CLARITY Act stalled.

With weeks to go before the US midterms 2026, President Donald Trump faces a key test as his approval rating falls. He has began his 32-day blitz of rallies ahead of November 3. His Monday evening's stop, Grand Island, is located in Nebraska’s solidly conservative south-central region. On Wednesday, he'll make his second stop in two weeks in Texas with a rally in San Antonio. Across the country, voters are frustrated with Trump’s handling of the economy as well as Iran war. Trump's approval rating held at a record low as of Oct 6 (Monday). Just 26 per cent of Hispanic registered voters plan to vote Republican in the contest, which will determine control of both chambers of Congress during the last two years of Trump's current term. Some 52 per cent of Hispanic voters plan to vote for Democrats, about double the level of support for Republicans and the largest Democratic advantage since Trump took office. Republicans are bracing for a rough performance in the congressional elections. Cost of living is the top issue, the Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

Trump’s approval rating remains at a record-low 32% ahead of the November 3 US midterms, while approval among Hispanic voters has fallen to 24%, a Reuters/Ipsos poll shows. Democrats lead Republicans 44%-37% among registered voters, with cost of living the top concern.

Registered voters are preferring Democrats over Republicans by 44 per cent to 37 per cent less than a month before the November 3 election. Among independents, Democrats led 37 per cent to 21 per cent, with 28 per cent of independent registered voters still undecided.

The US midterm election could become an unexpected and paradoxical development for India, in its increasingly complicated relationship with Washington. In the wake of the US-Iran war, Democrats are favoured to win the House in November, raising the possibility that a divided Congress could restrict President Donald Trump's unilateral tariff and trade policies, though it would likely maintain the Russian oil sanctions. The paradox is that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not have a shared ideological or party alignment with Democrats, who are more critical of his hypernationalism, human rights and democracy record. US midterms: Could a Democratic House be good for India?

As countdown for US midterms election begins, a major area of focus is the economy. Millions of Americans continue to grapple with inflation, with people blaming Iran war expenditure as the main reason. However, macroeconomic indicators show solid growth and robust consumer spending. For voters, the economy is increasingly being measured not through GDP figures or stock market gains, but through grocery receipts, petrol bills, rent notices and monthly utility payments. While second-quarter GDP grew at a strong 2.2 per cent annualised rate, consumer sentiment remains strained by the lingering weight of inflation. This disconnect between headline economic data and everyday financial pressures has turned the midterms into an affordability battle. Also Read: Democrats favoured to win House as US Senate race remains a coin flip
When bills tells a different story
While official data shows year-on-year food inflation at around 2.7 per cent, actual food prices tell a different story. In fact, some reports state that prices are much more than it was in the inflationary cycle of the early 2020s. While people are adjusting their day to day needs, situation looks stable – only on paper. Similar story is seen at the petrol pumps. Iran war has led to increase in petrol price. Energy costs are higher than before, with gasoline prices rising sharply. For workers who depend on their cars, higher prices at the pump function much like an additional household tax. Filling up a pickup truck can now cost $80 or more, while higher fuel prices also feed into transportation, freight, delivery and agricultural costs. That means an increase at the petrol station can eventually show up elsewhere — from the price of groceries to the cost of getting goods across the country. The increase in the cost of gasoline is also resulting into an increase in electricity and heating bills. Also Read: US midterm elections: How anti-India, anti-South Asia hate issue has entered the campaign Housing remains another major area that tests the affordability. So despite Trump's ‘America first’ policies, that in philosophy proposes to benefit the Americans economically and financially, Americans are actually spending more compared to their income, in terms of ratio. Higher-income Americans with significant investments have benefited from a strong stock market and the boom in artificial intelligence-related investment. Lower- and middle-income households, however, are more exposed to the cost of essentials. Stable employment may provide income security, but it does not necessarily offset the cumulative increase in the cost of living. That divide is increasingly shaping how Americans interpret economic data — and how they may approach the ballot box on November 3. Thus, in the upcoming midterms, voters are focussed on if the party ruling America would make their lifestyle ‘affordable’ because they have increasingly realising that strong economic numbers and conservative policies cannot solely mean an ease for their pockets. Interestingly, the Trump administration might be aware of this voter sentiment because Trump did announce a 5000 dollar freebie to tap into voter's desperation for actual money in their pocket.

US midterms 2026 and the affordability election: How grocery, petrol, gas and rent costs are hitting Americans

The 2026 US midterm elections are drawing closer, putting the Trump administration’s economic record under renewed scrutiny. With control of Congress at stake on November 3, issues such as trade, jobs, prices and the health of key industries are likely to remain central to the political debate. Against this backdrop, President Donald Trump’s latest meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping could have significance beyond foreign policy. Their summit produced agreements on agricultural trade, US coal purchases and artificial intelligence cooperation, while extending a broader trade truce. But the deal leaves several major US-China disputes unresolved, raising questions about how much it can deliver before the midterms.
China enters the US midterm conversation
For American farmers, China’s role is particularly important. Beijing is a major market for US agricultural products, and the trade war has repeatedly disrupted that relationship.Following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Washington, the two countries agreed to pursue tariff reductions covering about $30 billion of goods each. China’s list includes American corn, wheat, sorghum, meat, dairy products, vegetable oils and meals. That gives the Trump administration an economic development to highlight as the November 3 midterms approach, particularly in farm-heavy states. But there is an important omission: US soybeans were not included. Soybeans were worth about $16.2 billion in US exports to China in 2025 and remain one of the most politically sensitive agricultural products in the relationship.
Trade truce gets more time, not a final deal
The summit also produced a two-month extension of the existing US-China trade truce, taking it through January 10.The extension prevents an immediate return to higher tariffs and gives negotiators more time to work through unresolved issues. But it is not a permanent trade settlement. The two countries have also agreed to continue discussions through the US-China Board of Trade. That distinction matters. American businesses and farmers get additional breathing room, but uncertainty over the longer-term tariff regime remains.
Coal gives US industry another win
Agriculture was not the only US sector to gain from the summit.China agreed to import 10 million metric tonnes of US coal each year in 2027 and 2028. Beijing described the purchases as beneficial to the US coal industry by supporting income and employment. The volume is substantial for US coal producers but relatively small compared with China's overall coal imports – around 2 per cent of its annual imports, according to Reuters.
AI cooperation without ending the rivalry
The two governments also agreed to establish a communication channel for AI-related incidents and hold a follow-up dialogue by the end of November. That is cooperation, but it should not be confused with an end to the technology rivalry. Washington and Beijing remain competitors over advanced technology, while Trump has stressed that the US intends to maintain its lead in AI.
What remains unresolved
The summit therefore produced a collection of working arrangements rather than a sweeping reset.Soybean access remains an issue. The broader tariff dispute has only been paused. Strategic sectors such as semiconductors remain outside the tariff arrangement, while disagreements over technology, Taiwan and wider geopolitical competition continue. For the White House, the timing is notable. The summit has produced commitments involving American farmers, coal producers and other exporters that can be discussed on the campaign trail. But whether those measures translate into meaningful economic gains for voters before November remains dependent on implementation – and on whether Washington and Beijing can turn the temporary truce into something more durable.

US midterm elections 2026: Is China a factor? What Trump-Xi trade truce settled, and what it didn’t

Almost a month away from the US midterms, Democrats are being favoured to win the House while the Senate is close to a coin flip. 470 total federal congressional seats are on the ballot for November 3, 2026. With less than a month to go before the 2026 US midterm elections, the cost of groceries, fuel and other everyday essentials is emerging as a central issue for voters and a test for US President Donald Trump. According to a newAP-NORC poll, about 65 per cent of US adults surveyed said Trump's policies were responsible for today's high cost of living, while 67 per cent of Republicans said factors outside Trump's control were more responsible. US Midterms 2026: How grocery bills, cost of living are turning the Nov 3 election into a test of Trump

Michigan is emerging as one of the clearest tests of the Democratic Party’s strategy heading into the 2026 US midterm elections, and at the centre of it is a closely fought Senate race between Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers. A recent GBAO survey conducted for Senate Majority PAC showed El-Sayed leading Rogers 48 per cent to 44 per cent among Michigan likely voters. The poll, conducted from September 19-22, surveyed 800 likely voters and had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. The numbers, however, underline just how competitive the contest remains. An Emerson College/Nexstar Media poll conducted earlier in September put El-Sayed ahead 48 per cent to 46 per cent, while a Fox News poll released this week showed the Democrat leading Rogers 50 per cent to 49 per cent among likely voters. A Marist poll of registered voters, meanwhile, found El-Sayed with a 51-44 advantage. That makes Michigan particularly significant for Democrats. President Donald Trump carried the state in the 2024 presidential election, winning 49.7 per cent of the vote to Kamala Harris's 48.3 per cent, after Joe Biden had carried Michigan in 2020. El-Sayed's candidacy therefore presents a complicated political test. He emerged from a competitive Democratic primary with strong support from the party's progressive wing and is now attempting to translate that coalition into a statewide general-election campaign in a state where Republicans have demonstrated presidential-level strength. His Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, brings his own statewide experience. The former Congressman narrowly lost the 2024 Michigan Senate race to Democrat Elissa Slotkin, with Slotkin winning by just 0.3 percentage points. The race is also being fought against a broader backdrop of voter sentiment towards Trump and the national political environment. The latest Marist survey found 57 per cent of Michigan registered voters disapproved of Trump's job performance, while 42 per cent said their congressional vote was mainly a vote against the president. Also Read: 'Europe has agreed to release massive amount of diesel', says Trump as fuel prices surge amid Iran war But the contest cannot simply be reduced to a referendum on Trump. Democrats have countered by focusing on economic concerns and grassroots mobilisation. The stakes extend beyond Michigan itself. Republicans currently hold the Senate majority, while Democrats are seeking to regain control of the chamber in November. Michigan is therefore one of the contests being closely watched as both parties map their routes to a Senate majority. For Democrats, the El-Sayed-Rogers contest is also a test of whether a candidate associated with the party's progressive wing can build a statewide coalition in a state that backed Trump in the last presidential election. For Republicans, it is an opportunity to demonstrate that Trump's 2024 gains in Michigan can translate into another Republican Senate victory. With polling margins remaining within or close to the surveys' margins of error in several recent polls, the race remains highly competitive. What happens in Michigan on November 3 could provide an important indication of how voters are balancing national political sentiment, economic concerns and the contrasting ideological profiles of the two candidates.

US midterms: Iran war, fuel prices and economy take centre stage

The upcoming 2026 US midterm elections are entering their final stretch, but there is no single way to measure where the contest stands. Prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket are continuously updating their prices based on what traders think will happen. Polling averages measure where voters currently stand. Silver Bulletin's FLIPR model combines polling with political fundamentals and expert race ratings to simulate possible outcomes. The Cook Political Report and Sabato's Crystal Ball, meanwhile, assess individual races using expert judgment and competitiveness ratings. All are looking at the same election. Yet they can produce noticeably different pictures. That difference is not necessarily a contradiction. The systems are answering different questions, using different inputs and operating on different timelines.
Prediction markets: What are traders pricing in?
Kalshi and Polymarket approach elections through prediction markets. Rather than asking voters directly, they provide markets in which participants trade contracts tied to future outcomes. Kalshi's own September 21 overview said traders had moved toward pricing Democratic control of both chambers, while stressing that market expectations can change as polling and campaign developments emerge. Polymarket similarly expresses expectations through market prices. Its markets can cover everything from control of the House and Senate to individual races and broader election scenarios. A contract priced around 60 cents, for example, can be interpreted as the market assigning roughly a 60% implied probability to that outcome, subject to the market's rules and liquidity. That makes prediction markets different from polls. A poll asks voters what they currently intend to do. A prediction market asks traders to put a price on what they believe will happen on Election Day. The distinction can become particularly important when a major development occurs. A new poll, debate performance, candidate controversy or economic development can move market prices before a large batch of new public polling becomes available. But market prices are not guaranteed forecasts. They reflect the participants, information and trading conditions in that particular market.
Silver Bulletin: Turning polls and fundamentals into simulations
Silver Bulletin takes a more traditional modelling approach, although its FLIPR system is considerably more than a simple polling average. FLIPR, short for Forecast with Leading Indicators, Polls and (Expert) Ratings, combines polling, non-polling fundamentals and outside expert ratings. The model then runs thousands of simulations to estimate the range of possible congressional outcomes. Its September 28 update showed Democrats with a 9.2-point advantage in its likely-voter-adjusted generic congressional ballot average. The model also had Democratic candidates holding polling leads in six Senate states it identified as particularly important to the Senate tipping point: Texas, Maine, Ohio, Iowa, Michigan and Alaska. That does not mean FLIPR simply takes a 9.2-point national lead and converts it into seats. The model accounts for the fact that congressional races are interconnected but not identical. It uses individual race polling, candidate and incumbency factors, the national political environment and other fundamentals. That is one reason a model can produce a different result from a prediction market even when both are looking at broadly similar political developments. Silver Bulletin's methodology notes that FLIPR typically uses 40,000 simulations and models House, Senate and gubernatorial elections jointly. Also Read: RAF airbase incident: Netanyahu claims Israel warned Britain about Iranian terror plot
Cook Political Report: The race-by-race approach
The Cook Political Report uses another framework altogether. Rather than presenting every race as a probability, Cook classifies contests on a seven-point scale: Solid Democratic, Likely Democratic, Lean Democratic, Toss Up, Lean Republican, Likely Republican and Solid Republican. Cook says its ratings consider factors including a state's political makeup, candidate strengths and weaknesses, and the political environment at both the state and national levels. As of September 29, Cook's Senate ratings had seven races classified as Toss Ups: Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio and Texas. That is useful information, but it should not be read as equivalent to a prediction-market probability. A Toss Up means Cook considers the race highly competitive; it does not mean the race is mathematically 50-50. This is an important distinction when comparing election coverage. A headline that places a ‘Toss Up’ next to a market's 55% or 60% probability can make the two systems appear to disagree more than they actually do.
Sabato's Crystal Ball: Another expert lens
Sabato's Crystal Ball provides another race-rating framework, using expert analysis to classify competitive contests rather than relying solely on a statistical probability. Like Cook, its value lies partly in the race-by-race context. Analysts can consider candidate developments, state political conditions and the broader electoral environment alongside polling. That means an expert rating can move even when the polling picture has not changed dramatically if analysts believe other factors have altered the competitiveness of a contest. The broader point is that expert ratings are designed to communicate the state of individual races in a relatively accessible way. They are not intended to function as trading prices or as the output of a single statistical simulation.
Why can all five disagree?
The biggest reason is simple: they are not measuring the same thing. A poll measures voter sentiment at a particular point in time. A prediction market measures the price traders are willing to put on a future outcome. A statistical model processes multiple data sources and simulates thousands of possible elections. An expert rating assesses the competitiveness of individual races. There is also a difference in how uncertainty is treated. Suppose several Senate races are polling within a few points. A model may simulate those races thousands of times and calculate how often each party reaches a particular seat threshold. A prediction market may assign a price to Senate control based on traders' collective expectations.Cook may simply classify several of those races as Toss Ups. All three can therefore be describing the same underlying uncertainty without producing the same number.
So which number should voters look at?
There is no single number that answers every question. If the question is what are traders pricing right now?, prediction markets provide that information. If the question is what does a statistical model calculate after combining polling and other indicators?, FLIPR provides a model-based answer. If the question is which individual races are considered competitive?, Cook and Sabato provide race-rating frameworks. And if the question is where voters currently stand, polling remains the direct measure of voter sentiment, although polls themselves carry sampling and methodological uncertainty. The most useful way to read the 2026 election landscape, therefore, may be to understand what each system is actually designed to measure rather than treating them as competing versions of the same forecast. With Election Day approaching on November 3, market prices can continue moving, new polls can change averages, models can update their simulations and race ratings can shift as campaigns develop. The disagreement between them is not necessarily a flaw. It is a reminder that an election is not a single number, and that different tools can turn the same political information into different measures of uncertainty.

Sabato's Crystal Ball: Another expert lens Sabato's Crystal Ball provides another race-rating framework, using expert analysis to classify competitive contests rather than relying solely on a statistical probability. A prediction market may assign a price to Senate control based on traders' collective expectations. Cook may simply classify several of those races as Toss Ups.

215 days and counting — that's how long US President Donald Trump's war on Iran, launched in conjunction with Israel, has been going on. Over the course of the ongoing conflict, multiple times it seemed like a ceasefire was within reach, but the hostilities have continued unabated. Since February 28, oil prices have reached record highs, market performance has been suffering, inflation is high, yet the Trump administration continues to put on a show of confidence, strength and victory. According to analyses and digital trackers, in the 200+ days, US President Donald Trump has claimed victory (or asserted that the US has won the Iran conflict) at least 100 times. US President Donald Trump has announced plans for a 32-day campaign tour across the country as Republicans prepare for the upcoming November midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress. United States is soon going to witness mid term elections which is going to be a test for President Donald Trump of his policies and how popular he still is among the American people. US midterms: Trump’s disapproval ratings at ‘record hatred’ level, say analysts

US Attorney General Todd Blanche has accused Democrats of using growing fears over artificial intelligence to influence voters ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, while defending President Donald Trump’s opposition to tighter AI regulation.Blanche made the remarks on Tuesday (Sep 15) during an unusual White House press briefing held in the Rose Garden. He said the sudden focus on AI risks by Democratic senators was politically motivated, echoing Trump’s description of the debate as a “hoax”.
Blanche targets Democrats over AI fears
Blanche said Democrats had been largely silent on AI concerns for months before suddenly raising the issue as the midterm elections approach. “Every Democrat senator suddenly races to a microphone to talk about AI after being eerily silent for months and months and months,” Blanche told reporters. He alleged that the timing of the renewed debate was aimed at influencing the midterms, adding that political considerations should not determine decisions on AI policy. The comments came as concerns over the potential risks of AI have gained renewed attention in Washington. Some lawmakers from both parties, along with figures from the technology industry, have called for greater safeguards and oversight of the rapidly developing technology.
‘We’re prosecutors, not regulators’
Blanche said he agreed with Trump that the federal government should not regulate AI. “We’re not going to try to regulate AI,” he said, arguing that the Justice Department’s role was to enforce criminal law rather than regulate the technology industry. “AI is extraordinarily beneficial to our society,” Blanche added. He said the Justice Department would continue investigating cases where AI was allegedly used to commit crimes, but rejected the idea that the department should oversee the technology's broader development.
Blanche defends Trump’s Supreme Court criticism
Blanche also defended Trump after the president criticised the Supreme Court over its decision concerning mail-in voting ahead of the midterm elections. Trump described the ruling as “horrible” and “highly political”. Blanche said the president had the right to publicly express his frustration with the court. He also said the administration’s efforts concerning election integrity would continue despite the Supreme Court ruling.
