Convicted rapists often go on to repeat their crimes. The United Kingdom has over the years recorded many cases where, having received an early pardon, such criminals go on to repeat their offences, or commit even serious ones.

Now, a new "gear change" by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will force convicted rapists to serve the duration of their full sentences. This, as per Daily Mail, is likely to be part of an upcoming speech by Sunak.

<h2>The 'real Rishi'</h2>

As per Daily Mail, the move is part of a wider 'gear change' by Number 10 Downing Street, which aims to reveal the 'real Rishi' ahead of the general elections next year.

Part of this strategy was last Wednesday's 'green gamble' hitting the brakes on the race to net zero.

At the time, announcing the move, Sunak said it was "the first in a series of long-term decisions to deliver change".

"I have spent my first year as Prime Minister bringing back stability to our economy, your Government and our country. And now it is time to address the bigger, longer-term questions we face," added the British PM.

"The real choice confronting us is do we want to change our country and build a better future for our children, or do we want to carry on as we are. I have made my decision–we are going to change," he added.

<h2>Repeat offenders</h2>

As per the report, UK Ministry of Justice figures show that in the seven years — since 2016, 112 sex offenders released early have gone on to commit serious offences.

Notorious cases include that of Ashley Shuck, a rapist who in 2017 was convicted of raping ad kidnapping an elderly woman&nbsp;and sexually assaulting another woman, just weeks after he was released halfway through a previous eight-year sentence for raping an 18-year-old.

At the time of his new offences, Shuck was out on the licence. In the UK, offenders are automatically released after serving half their standard determinate sentence. They then complete the rest of their sentence on licence.

Last year, the Police, Crime and Courts Act automatically ended the early release for sexual offences that carry the maximum sentences. Additionally, those serving a sentence of four years or more are now required to serve at least two-thirds of their sentence.

UK: Sunak to double down on sex offenders, will force them to serve whole sentence

Smoking is quite common among the younger generations today. It is a personal preference and a particularly addictive dependency. However, it has detrimental health impacts on both a smoker and every other person who inhales the smoke.

British PM Rishi Sunak may introduce anti-smoking measures: Report

The United Kingdom is set to unveil a new sculpture that, as per reports, will be the first of its kind. The sculpture is designed to celebrate women who wear hijabs and is called ‘Strength of the Hijab’ and is designed by Luke Perry, an English artist known for his monumental sculptures.

Perry is known for his sculptures that celebrate under-represented peoples and their heritage.

<h2>Strength of Hijab</h2>

The sculpture will be installed in Britain's second-largest city, Birmingham. To be exact, it will be placed in the Smethwick area of the West Midlands in October.

As per Middle East Monitor, the sculpture was commissioned by a local charity, Legacy West Midlands, and is five metres tall (around 16ft) and weighs about a tonne.

Talking to the press, Perry said: "The Strength of the Hijab is a piece which represents women who wear hijabs of the Islamic faith, and it's really there because it's such an underrepresented part of our community, but such an important one."

<h2>Controversial sculpture</h2>

Perry, as per BBC, has previously designed the 'Black British History is British History' sculpture.&nbsp;

"They need visibility, it's so important, so working with the community to come up with the designs has been really exciting because we didn't know what it was going to look like until now," he said about the 'Strength of Hijab' sculpture.

The 'Black British History is British History' sculpture was designed by Perry and Canaan Brown, and was installed in Winson Green in May. However, shortly after it was installed, the sculpture was defaced.

As per BBC, Perry has acknowledged that the upcoming sculpture could also be controversial.&nbsp;

"There's a possibility that this piece could be controversial for many different reasons."

However, as per the artist, it is important to represent all of UK's citizens.

"I don't feel like any of them are valid, but people do, there are a lot of people who object to the differences that we have in our communities, and would like them to be more divided."

"But the future of our country is about what unites us, not what pulls us apart, which is why it's important to have representation across the whole of the UK, of everybody that lives here."

UK to install first-of-its-kind sculpture honouring the 'Strength of Hijab'

Wales has emerged as the first nation in the United Kingdom to reduce speed limits from 30mph to 20mph in built-up areas in Wales from Sunday.

Welsh ministers stated that placing a 20mph (32km/h) limit would reduce death counts and noise and people would be encouraged to cycle or walk, however, it has caused controversy with few drivers.

The environmental and road safety groups of the United Nations have supported the move, however, the politicians opposing the move declared it a "war on motorists".

The first minister of Wales stated that it would "keep people from losing their lives".

"It's going to take you a minute longer to make your journey, and we will save 10 people's lives in Wales every year as a result of that one-minute contribution - it doesn't seem an unfair bargain," stated Mark Drakeford.

Now, the law will bring change in the speed limit on around 35 per cent of Welsh roads where lamp-posts are not more than 200 yards (183m) apart.

The Welsh government stated that the £32.5 million ($40.25 million) cost of rolling out the speed limit nationwide was "outweighed" by reduced impact on the emergency services and the NHS, which as per one study can save £92 million ($113.95 million) a year.

However, a consultation commissioned by the Welsh government found that more people were against the speed limit compared to its support.

One of the documents of the Labour-led government said that longer journeys can lead to a "substantial" economic disadvantage.

<h2>New 20mph default limit "insane": House of Commons leader</h2>

The government UK's House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt said that the new 20mph default limit was "insane" and added that it was "punishing" motorists.

The Welsh Conservatives stated that they supported the 20mph limit outside hospitals, care homes and schools, however, it called the blanket rollout "disastrous, frankly ludicrous and a war on motorists".

Welsh ministers stated that the impact on people's journey time will be "small", as drivers will take less than one minute extra on average per trip.

"I remember when the breathalyser was introduced and how many people appeared to believe that it was quite OK to spend the night in the pub and then to drive," stated Drakeford.

"We'd never think of going back to that now. This will take time for people to get used to. Once it's bedded in I think people will look back and ask themselves why it was we were prepared to tolerate traffic going at excessive speeds in urban areas,” he added.

The British government announced on Tuesday (September 12) that the officials will use X-rays and MRI scans to determine the age of asylum seekers who are apparently falsely claiming to be unaccompanied children.&nbsp;

The move will facilitate the government's plans to restrict what it calls "illegal" migration to the UK, which has emerged as a highly contentious political issue.&nbsp;

The interior ministry said that the legislation unveiled this week by the justice ministry will "authorise the use of X-rays in scientific age assessments". It still needs parliament's approval.&nbsp;

Talks between the two leaders followed their meeting held on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima in May this year in which they had discussed the India-UK free trade agreement, innovation, and science along with ways to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. The two countries are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement, talks for which talks had begun in 2022. The 12th round of negotiations for the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) took place from August 8 to 31 this year.

In August this year, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and the UK’s Secretary of State for Trade Kemi Badenoch took stock of the FTA and agreed on ways to take the negotiations ahead. The 13th round of negotiations is due to take place in September.

Earlier on Saturday, PM Modi and Rishi Sunak participated in Session 1 on 'One Earth' during the G20 Summit. Sunak said that the world is looking to G20 to provide leadership and that the leaders are meeting at a time of enormous challenges. He expressed confidence that the leaders will together be able to address the challenges.

In a post shared on X, Sunak stated, "15 years ago, #G20 leaders came together for the first time to restore global growth after the financial crisis. We meet at a time of enormous challenges – the world is looking to the G20 once again to provide leadership. Together I believe we can address these challenges."

He was accorded a warm welcome at the airport by Union Minister Ashwini Choubey, British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis and senior diplomats.

Shortly after landing in the national capital, the UK PM made some important remarks on various subjects one being the concerns around pro-Khalistan extremism.

This is Sunak's very first visit to India after he assumed office in October last year.

<h2>‘No form of extremism acceptable,’ says Sunak</h2>

Sunak asserted that no form of extremism or violence is acceptable in the United Kingdom and the government in his country is working closely with India to tackle Khalistani extremism.

"No form of extremism or violence like that is acceptable in the UK. And that's why we are working very closely with the Indian government to particularly tackle 'PKE' Pro-Khalistan Extremism,” he said in a conversation with news agency ANI.

"Our security Minister recently was just in India talking to his counterparts. We have working groups together to share intelligence and information so that we can root out this kind of violent extremism. It's not right and I won't tolerate it in the UK," he added.&nbsp;

<h2>‘I am a proud Hindu’</h2>

The British Prime Minister, while expressing his pride for his Hindu roots, said that he hopes he finds the time to visit a temple during his stay in India.

“It is something that is important to me. I think faith is something that helps everybody who has faith in their lives, particularly when you have these stressful jobs like I do. Having faith gives you resilience, gives you strength that is important and it provides an outlook on life which I find particularly valuable,” Sunak further added.&nbsp;

He also called his visit to India 'fantastic' and said that he has enjoyed his first few hours here.&nbsp;

“It is fantastic for me to be back in India. Obviously, it's personally very special for me to be here, particularly with Akshata, and we thoroughly enjoyed the first few hours of our trip so far,” he said.

“Well you know obviously you know my wife is from Bangalore, we got married in Bangalore. We used to spend lots of time together before we had children in Delhi and were trying to figure out if we can go to one of our old favourite restaurants this evening,” Sunak said.

<h2>‘Will make sure G20 under India's presidency achieves success’</h2>

Sunak said that the G20 has been a huge success for India and it is the "right country at the right time to be hosting this”.

"I'm very keen to support Prime Minister Modi and making sure that this G20 is an enormous success for India which I know it will be and this has been a great year for India more generally," he said.

“G20 has been a huge success for India. India is the right country at the right time to be hosting this. I feel we are going to have a very good couple of days of deliberations and decisions made,” the British Prime Minister added while highlighting that the coming two days will witness hectic deliberations. &nbsp;

<h2>‘FTA made enormous progress, still hard work to go’</h2>

While talking about the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) under discussion between India and the United Kingdom, the UK PM said that the agreement has made “enormous progress” but there is "still hard work to go.”

"Both Modi ji and I are keen to see a comprehensive and ambitious trade deal concluded between our two countries. Both of us think there is a good deal to be done. But trade deals always take time, they need to work for both countries. Although we have made enormous progress there is still hard work to go," he said.

From Khalistani threats to visiting a temple, here's what UK PM Rishi Sunak said after arriving in India

UK police descended on a yoga class in central England after a member of the public spotted people lying on the floor and reported a "mass killing".

Officers rushed to the spot with car sirens blaring only to find members of the class quietly meditating.

The Seaside Cafe inside the North Sea Observatory in Chapel St Leonards said a worried member of the public raised the alarm on Wednesday night after becoming concerned.

"If anyone heard the mass of police sirens in Chapel St Leonards at 9.30 pm last night then please be reassured," a Facebook post said.

"They were on their way to the Observatory after someone had reported a mass killing in our building, having seen several people laying on the floor… which actually turned out to be the yoga class in meditation".

The cafe regularly hosts yoga classes in the evenings. "We are not part of any mad cult or crazy clubs," it added.

Lincolnshire police confirmed the call was made "with good intentions".

UK yoga class quietly meditating mistakenly reported as 'mass killing'

Russian mercenary outfit Wagner Group is set to be banned in Britain as a terrorist organisation, as per media reports on Tuesday (September 5) which quoted Home Secretary Suella Braverman as saying.

The UK, under the country's anti-terror laws, is set to declare the Wagner Group a "proscribed" organisation which will place it at par with al-Qaeda and Islamic State, a report in the Daily Mail stated.

"Wagner is a violent and destructive organisation which has acted as a military tool of Vladimir Putin's Russia overseas," Braverman was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

"While Putin's regime decides what to do with the monster it created, Wagner's continuing destabilising activities only continue to serve the Kremlin's political goals,” the minister added.

The Terrorism Act 2000 has bestowed power to the home secretary to proscribe an organisation&nbsp;they believe is involved in terrorism. After a proscription order is issued, supporting the group becomes a criminal offence.

"They are terrorists, plain and simple - and this proscription order makes that clear in UK law," the minister was quoted in a BBC report as saying. "Wagner has been involved in looting, torture and barbarous murders," Braverman stated, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The group's operations in Ukraine, the Middle East and Africa "are a threat to global security. That is why we are proscribing this terrorist organisation and continuing to aid Ukraine wherever we can in its fight against Russia,” she said.

<h2>Draft measures to be tabled in Parliament</h2>

Draft measures for banning the Wagner Group, in accordance with the act, will be tabled in the Parliament on Wednesday (September 6), said the reports.

In July, sanctions were announced against 13 businesses and individuals in Britain who were said to have links with Russian groups in Africa and were accused of crimes that included torture and killings.

Wagner Group to be banned as 'terrorist' organisation in UK: Reports

Thousands of passengers with flight tickets in the United Kingdom are facing cancellations and long delays after the country's air traffic control systems encountered a “technical issue”, which has been fixed.

People have been stranded in the UK and abroad after the number of planes landing was limited by the National Air Traffic Services. The airports and airlines warned the passengers that they were likely to face more "significant delays" even though the officials fixed the issue within hours.

Speaking to BBC News, one passenger said that her afternoon flight was not likely to leave till after midnight. Warnings have been issued that people are likely to face some knock-on disruption for days.

Delays of around 12 hours after takeoffs, suspension of inbound flights due to a “network-wide” computer failure and cancellations were faced by returning holidaymakers and those planning to fly out from UK airports.

The technical snag had forced controllers to input flight plans manually which led to the cancellation of 500 flights and delay of other flights even before Nats, which is the national airspace controller, declared at 3.15 pm local time that it had “identified and remedied” the technical issue after four hours.

<h2>Returning to normal operations</h2>

As per flight tracking sites, the flights were delayed from 11:30 am. The problem was confirmed by Nats at around 12:10 pm local time when it stated that it was “currently experiencing a technical issue” and had “applied traffic flow restrictions to maintain safety”.

After stating that the original issues had been fixed, Nats stated, “We are now working closely with airlines and airports to manage the flights affected as efficiently as possible. Our engineers will be carefully monitoring the system’s performance as we return to normal operations.”

“Our priority is always to ensure that every flight in the UK remains safe and we are sincerely sorry for the disruption this is causing. Please contact your airline for information on how this may affect your flight,” it added.

Late on Monday evening, Heathrow said that the flight schedules remain disrupted and hence, people should reach out to the airlines before leaving for the airport.

Heathrow spokesperson said that the schedules would “remain significantly disrupted for the rest of the day”. “We ask passengers to only travel to the airport if their flight is confirmed as still operating. Teams across Heathrow are working as hard as they can to minimise the knock-on impacts and assist those whose journeys have been affected,” he added.&nbsp;

In the United Kingdom, doctors have performed the first-ever womb transplant, which has been hailed as a huge milestone and "massive success" in fertility treatment.&nbsp;

Local media outlets reported that a 40-year-old woman, who already had two children of her own, helped her 34-year-old sister. The younger sister, whose identity has not been revealed, had been born without a uterus.&nbsp;

Reports have mentioned that both have recovered well after the surgery. The younger sister (receiver of the womb) and her husband are now waiting for several embryos to be transferred.&nbsp;

The procedures happened in February and were carried out by a team of 20 and lasted around 17 hours in adjoining operation theatres at the Churchill Hospital.&nbsp;

This was a first for the UK, but such operations have been successfully carried out globally as more than 90 womb transplants have been performed in nations such as Sweden, the US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Germany, Serbia and India.&nbsp;

As quoted by The Guardian, the co-lead surgeon Isabel Quiroga, a consultant surgeon at the Oxford Transplant Centre, part of Oxford University hospitals, said that the patient is "incredibly happy".&nbsp;

She added: "She was absolutely over the moon, very happy and is hoping that she can go on to have not one but two babies. Her womb is functioning perfectly and we are monitoring her progress very closely."&nbsp;

First-ever womb transplant in UK hailed as 'massive success' in fertility treatment

The health department of the United Kingdom said that under new plans, the cigarette packs will include cards encouraging smokers to quit smoking. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said in a directive published on Monday (August 14) that the government will seek views on adding pack inserts into tobacco products as it launches a new consultation.&nbsp;

It noted that they would contain positive messages to encourage people to quit and signpost them for advice and support. The government believes that introducing pack inserts into all tobacco products in the UK could lead to an additional 30,000 smokers giving up their habit.&nbsp;

The messages set out the health benefits of quitting, such as improvements to breathing within a matter of days and a 50 per cent reduction in the risk of heart attack within a year, it will also show smokers how much money they stand to save by giving up. The report mentioned that the average person is likely to save over £2,000 (around $2,500) per year if they quit.&nbsp;

"By taking action to reduce smoking rates and pursuing our ambition to be smoke-free by 2030, we will reduce the pressure on the NHS and help people to live healthier lives," Barclay added.&nbsp;

According to the official report, smoking remains the single leading preventable cause of illness and mortality in the UK. It results in nearly 4 per cent of all hospital admissions each year – equivalent to almost 450,000 admissions.&nbsp;

Tobacco-related problems are also estimated to cost taxpayers an estimated £21 billion (around $26.63 billion) every year, including over £2 billion (around $2.54 billion) in costs to the NHS.&nbsp;

UK: Police arrest man in London after stabbing outside British Museum

A new coronavirus variant EG.5.1, nicknamed Eris, has been spreading across the United Kingdom and has brought the country's health officers on their toes.

The variant, which has descended from the rapidly spreading Omicron, was first flagged last month in the United Kingdom, reported news agency PTI.

The variant Eris is found in one of the out of the seven new coronavirus cases, said the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). As per the latest data, the cases of the Eris variant now account for 14.6 per cent of all cases, Sky News reported.

"COVID-19 case rates continued to increase this week compared to our previous report. 5.4% of 4,396 respiratory specimens reported through the Respiratory DataMart System were identified as COVID-19. This is compared to 3.7% of 4,403 from the previous report," said the UKHSA, in a report.

“EG.5.1 was first raised as a signal in monitoring on July 3, 2023, as part of horizon scanning due to increasing reports internationally, particularly in Asia,” it added.

“It was subsequently raised from a signal in monitoring to a variant V-23JUL-01 on July 31, 2023, due to the increasing number of genomes in UK data, and continued growth internationally. Declaring this lineage as a variant will allow further detailed characterisation and analysis,” it added.

<h2>UK is almost ‘flying blind’</h2>

In the wake of increasing coronavirus cases, experts have suggested that the UK is almost “flying blind” in the case of Covid this autumn.

Professor of operational research at University College London, Christina Pagel, while speaking to The Guardian, said that it seems like the onset of a new wave of Covid. She added that with the autumn coming on and people going back to school and work, Covid pressures are likely to increase.

“We might see the wave continue to grow, and grow faster, in September,” she stated. Pagel said that the nationwide infection survey, which was published by the Office for National Statistics for autumn and winter, should be brought back.

“What worries me most is if we get a repeat of the last winter NHS crisis this winter again, with Covid, flu and RSV all hitting around the same time. We are definitely flying near blind,” said Pagel.

An epidemiologist at the University of Edinburgh, Prof Rowland Kao, further emphasised the decline in surveillance.

“With seasonal flu, we have of course a certain amount of predictability with the many years of data. However, with Covid, now that we don’t have those multiple data streams to rely on, it’s harder to say what is happening (in the general population),” he stated.

Mali was among the African nations that will get free grain from Russia as per a promised made by President Vladimir Putin. At a Russia-Africa summit in St Petersburg, Putin said, "We will be ready to provide Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, Central African Republic and Eritrea with 25-50,000 tonnes of free grain each in the next three to four months."&nbsp;

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sacked the country's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vadym Prystaiko, on Friday, after he denounced the president's response to a row over British military aid.

Prystaiko had condemned Zelensky's sarcastic remarks to suggestions that came from British Defence Minister Ben Wallace that Ukraine should exhibit more gratitude for the arms and ammunition supplied by its allies.&nbsp;

Zelensky, in a decree that was published on the presidential website, signed the dismissal of Prystaiko. It did not cite the reason for banishment.

<h2>British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace warns Ukraine its allies are 'not Amazon'</h2>

The row began this month at the NATO summit in Vilnius when Wallace said in a press briefing that Britain was 'not an Amazon delivery service' for Ukraine and that Kyiv could express more "gratitude".

Wallace warned that Ukraine had to persuade US lawmakers and "doubting politicians in other countries that it's worth it", and that "whether we like it or not, people want to see gratitude".

Wallace, who was speaking on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Lithuania, while answering a question from a reporter about Zelensky's complaints that Kyiv had not been given a timeline for joining the alliance, recalled the time when he was handed over a shopping list of weapons during his visit to Ukraine.

"You know, we're not Amazon," he said, referring to the giant American tech and retail company. "I told them that last year when I drove 11 hours to be given a list."

The United Kingdom has been one of Kyiv's most persistent supporters since Russia's attack last year. It is the major donor of weapons and trains the Ukrainian troops. PM Rishi Sunak had also released a statement earlier saying that Britain and its allies will increase their support for Ukraine.

<h2>Zelensky says did not understand Wallace's comments</h2>

While responding to Wallace's comments at a press conference, Zelensky said, "We were always grateful to the UK, prime ministers and the minister of defence because the people are always supporting us," he said.

"I didn't know what he meant and how else we should be grateful. Maybe the minister wants something special but we have wonderful relations."

When asked about Wallace's comments, Sunak said that Zelensky had been grateful for the support given so far and that more support would be forthcoming as required.

"President Zelensky has expressed his gratitude for what we have done on a number of occasions," Sunak told a press conference at the summit in Vilnius.

"I completely understand Volodymyr's desire to do everything he can to protect his people and to stop this war, and we will continue to give him the support that he needs."

<h2>Ukrainian diplomat says Zelensky responded with 'a little bit of sarcasm'&nbsp;to Wallace's comments</h2>

The Ukrainian diplomat agreed with a suggestion from a Sky News interviewer that Zelensky had responded with "a little bit of sarcasm" to Wallace.

"I don't believe that this sarcasm is healthy. We don't have to show the Russians that we have something between us, they have to know that we are working together," Prystaiko added, stressing the need to smooth over relations with the UK.

"If anything happens, Ben can call me and tell me everything he wants," the diplomat said.

Prystaiko served as ambassador to the UK since July 2020. He was previously Ukraine's foreign minister from 2019 to 2020.

The UK Health Security Agency warned that London is standing at risk of a major measles outbreak which could result in tens of thousands getting hospitalised.

The UKHSA's fresh analysis suggests that since there has been an improvement in MMR vaccination rates, an outbreak of between 40,000 and 160,0000 cases can be experienced by the capital. Experts warned that an outbreak of this scale can cause dozens of deaths and thousands getting hospitalised.

UKHSA consultant epidemiologist Dr Vanessa Saliba said, “Measles can be a serious infection that can lead to complications, especially in young children and those with weakened immune systems. Due to longstanding suboptimal vaccine uptake there is now a very real risk of seeing big outbreaks in London.”

The official data published on Friday&nbsp;revealed that there is a steady rise in measles cases this year which indicates a resurgence of the illness. This year, between June 30 and January 1, there were 128 cases of measles reported, in comparison to 54 cases that came up in the whole of 2022, with 66 per cent of them being detected in London, although cases have been reported from all regions.

<h2>People likely to suffer complications due to measles&nbsp;</h2>

Measles can cause severe illness, with an estimated 20-40 per cent of children getting hospitalised, as per the UKHSA. According to the estimates of the US Centre for Disease Control, one to two in 1,000 children infected will lose their life from measles and a larger number of people will suffer serious complications, which will include deafness and intellectual disabilities.

“UKHSA is right to be worried about this,” stated Prof Paul Hunter, professor in medicine at the University of East Anglia, adding that an outbreak of the estimated scale would lead to “dozens of deaths”.

Risk of major measles outbreak in London, warns UK Health Security Agency

Over 50 Members of Parliament (MPs) in the United Kingdom (UK) have owned stakes in publicly listed companies that have raised questions about the possible conflicts of interest and that until now have been in secret.

Over 50 Members of Parliament (MPs) in the United Kingdom (UK) have owned stakes in publicly listed companies that have raised questions about the possible conflicts of interest and that until now have been in secret. According to a report by The Guardian on Sunday (July 9), dozens of MPs have shares in banks, supermarkets, housebuilders, defence companies and energy suppliers. The companies include the likes of HSBC, Barclays and BP, the report said. The parliamentary rules, which have been unchanged since 2015, require MPs to register holdings they have in a single company when they own over 15% of its shares or when their shares in it are worth more than $89,691 (£70,000). The rules mean that MP's shareholdings, including the ones held by former UK prime minister Theresa May, did not need to be disclosed in parliamentary registers. However, citizens have been left in the dark about some of the financial interests of the political leaders. The MPs with shareholdings The Guardian report on Sunday said that the list of MPs with shareholdings included the chair of the environment select committee, Robert Goodwill and SNP chief whip Brendan among others. All these holdings were below the threshold, the report pointed out. The report also said that current UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had a financial stake in National Grid until two days before he was selected as the Conservative candidate for his constituency. Former PM Theresa May, meanwhile, owned shares in BP when she was the home secretary and during the same period, her husband held shares in BP, Barclays, BT and Centrica. Four months after May was elected as PM, these shares also seemed to have been moved to a blind trust. The report said that shareholdings such as that owned by May and her husband that are under the threshold could still fall under the House of Commons rules that require lawmakers to publicly disclose any interests, including those held by their close family, that might reasonably be thought to influence their actions in parliament. The report also identified ministers who met lobbyists for companies while not declaring the shares held by themselves or their family members. A call for review of parliamentary rules Following the findings, transparency campaigners have called for a review of parliamentary rules. Speaking to The Guardian, Steve Goodrich from Transparency International UK said that if MPs had shares in a company affected by legislation going through parliament, there was invariably a tension between them protecting their financial affairs and advancing the public good. "Having these details out in the open is a key safeguard against abuse of public office," Goodrich said, adding the public had the right to know what role money played in politics. Nuria Sajjad: Second eight-year-old girl dies after London school crash

UK Tory MP Chris Pincher has been suspended for eight weeks after a probe found him guilty of groping two men at a London club last year.

Parliament's standards committee released a statement saying that his "completely inappropriate" behaviour was an "abuse of power".

Pincher said that he wanted to "apologise sincerely" for his conduct, further adding that he had sought professional medical help, which is "ongoing".

Pincher is due to stand down as an MP at the next general election, which is scheduled to take place next year.

Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner said the report was "shocking," and Pincher should "do the decent thing" and resign as an MP immediately, reports&nbsp;BBC.

The incident took place at the Carlton Club, a private members club in central London, and was examined by Parliament's standards commissioner Daniel Greenberg.

<h2>Pincher was heavily intoxicated</h2>

After a year-long investigation, commissioner Daniel Greenberg found out that Pincher had groped a then-employee of the House of Lords.

He groped his arm and neck and then his bottom. As per BBC reports, Greenberg also found during the probe that the MP had also groped a civil servant on his bottom and then his testicles.

Pincher was "heavily intoxicated" at the time and remembers "feeling hot and saying to someone ‘I’m alright’," the commissioner wrote.

But he "does not recall any other details about the evening or how he got home," Greenberg added.

The victim told the commissioner that he was deeply affected by the incident and it continues to haunt him and affect his sleep.

The cross-party Standards Committee said Pincher's actions amounted to "sexual misconduct" and his behaviour was "unwanted, upsetting and inappropriate".&nbsp;

In a report after the investigation, MPs on the cross-party standards committee which examines complaints against MPs, concluded Pincher's "profoundly damaging" behaviour "represented an abuse of power".

They further added that his conduct had broken the Commons behaviour code by causing significant damage to the reputation of the parliament.

Their report added that, in a written submission, Pincher had accepted his behaviour "damaged his own reputation and that of the government".&nbsp;

The committee however further added that Pincher declined the suggestion that he had done 'significant damage' to the reputation of the Parliament, further arguing that he was speaking at the club as a former minister rather than as an MP.

Pincher now has 10 days to appeal to an independent expert panel, if he can provide new evidence.
