Here's how social media apps are fighting misinformation surrounding coronavirus

Days after Indian climate activist Licypriya Kangujam raised her voice over being called as "Greta of India", she found that her Twitter account was restored after being suspended for few hours.

"No one can judge people on age. Age doesn’t matter to make a difference. This is child power. Twitter shouldn’t attempt to silence the voice of young climate activist in any part of the world in future," Licypriya told WION after her account was restored.

Earlier, after her account's suspension, she had said that "my recent post was never against anyone or never abusive to anyone in particular".

" I just used Greta name as to stop calling me “Greta of India” by some media for my activities. My post had over 1.9 million views in the last 2 days with over 135,000 likes and over 29,000 shares," she added.

17-year-old climate justice activist, Xiye Bastida, too came to her support and urged for the restoration of her account. She tweeted, "Dont let this go unnoticed, and say something".

Considering her age as a factor behind the suspension, Licyrpiya said, "I have seen many verified Twitter accounts under the age of 13 years operating with the consent of parents or guardians. I don’t think this would be the reason to suspend my account."

While Licypriya claims that her age cannot be a factor behind the suspension, according to Twitter, the company opts to ban anyone whose date of birth — whether it was provided at the time of signing up or later — indicates they were under the age of 13 when they signed up for the service.

In a series of tweets, she rejected the comparison and appealed to the media to recognise her identity and story. "If you call me 'Greta of India', you are not covering my story. You are deleting a story, " she tweeted.

Haranguing the Democrats over his impeachment trial constituted the vast majority of his posts, which his adoring base of 71 million followers enjoyed in the form of retweets of messages, videos and images from Republican legislators. Ripping into Representative Adam Schiff, one of the House Democratic impeachment managers was a large chunk of Trump's tweets. The centrepiece of it all was a retweet of a provocative image posted by White House social media director Dan Scavino that shows Trump walking in front of a fiery scene meant to symbolise the incineration of the "Deep State". The record-breaking re-tweet came from Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who announced a new podcast about the Impeachment trial, Factba.se stated.

The Walmart Twitter page went on trolling-mode when it cracked a joke that referred to the late Hollywood actor Paul Walker.
To express his joy, the user commented with a gif of a car snaking dangerously through the traffic. In the caption, he wrote: "*me racin to the nearest Wally World*".

John Wardle via REUTERS DOWNLOAD PICTURE DOWNLOAD WATERMARKED COMP By Colin Packham SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australian authorities on Wednesday confirmed a third person had died in devastating bushfires that engulfed the southeast coastal region this week and said a fourth person was missing and feared dead. Fanned by soaring temperatures, columns of fire and smoke blackened entire towns on Monday and Tuesday, forcing thousands of residents and holidaymakers to seek shelter on beaches. Many stood in shallow water to escape the flames. In total, there have been 12 fire-related deaths across Australia since blazes broke out a few months ago, including three volunteer firefighters, after a three-year drought in large parts of the nation created tinder-dry conditions. Huge bushfires have destroyed more than 4 million hectares (10 million acres) -- an area larger than Japan -- and new blazes are sparked almost daily by extremely hot and windy conditions and, most recently, dry lightning strikes created by the fires themselves. Cooler conditions on Wednesday gave the country a moment to count the cost of the fires, although there were still more than 100 blazes in New South Wales (NSW) state alone and thousands of firefighters on the ground. The body of a man was found on Wednesday on the south coast of New South Wales after emergency workers began reaching the most damaged areas, according to the state's Rural Fire Service (RFS).
With just days to go before Taiwan's elections, its giant neighbour is trying a push-and-pull strategy on the island Beijing claims as Chinese territory, rattling its sabre while trying to coax electors with outwardly friendlier policies.

Taiwan, which says it is an independent country, has long been wary of Chinese attempts to sway its elections in favour of candidates who may look more kindly upon Beijing.

Fear of China has become a major element in the campaign, boosted not only by the anti-government protests in Chinese-ruled Hong Kong but also by a speech Chinese President Xi Jinping gave in January outlining China's "reunification" agenda, including threats of force.

On Thursday, Taiwan's Defence Ministry said China had sailed another carrier group through the Taiwan Strait just weeks after the last mission.

Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu quickly took to Twitter to denounce it.

A few days before that, retired but influential Chinese General Wang Hongguang outlined at a state-media organised forum in Beijing how China could bring Taiwan to its knees by invading its outlying islands and "terrifying" Taipei into submission.

At the same time, China has rolled out policies promising better treatment for the Taiwanese business community, which has invested billions in China, and on Saturday revised a law to give those promises a firmer legal basis.

Taiwan only enjoys democracy now after decades of struggle, Tsai's running mate, William Lai, told supporters on Saturday.

"How can we go backward, and become a second Hong Kong or Tibet?" he said.

China has ramped up pressure on Tsai since she won office in 2016, cutting off talks and flying bombers around Taiwan, believing she wants to push for the island's formal independence.

But Tsai's returning to the office would not necessarily mean relations with China would continue to worsen, as Beijing may realise it must talk to her, said senior legislator Lo Chih-cheng of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

"If our party or our president continues to be in power, eventually China has to come to terms with the incumbent government. They refuse to talk to the DPP because they believe the KMT had a chance to come back," he told Reuters at his campaign office in a Taipei suburb.

"After seeing the probable defeat of the KMT, leaders in Beijing may believe that in the foreseeable future the KMT may not come back to power again," he added. "So it might be reasonable or sensible for them to come to terms with the DPP government."
