In a remarkable medical case, doctors at a Delhi-based hospital successfully removed 39 coins and 37 magnets from a man's intestine through surgery.

The man, as per media reports, had ingested the coins and magnets under the mistaken belief that zinc aids in body-building.

What happened?

At Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, a 26-year-old patient who is reportedly suffering from a psychiatric illness came to the emergency ward with complaints of persistent vomiting and abdominal pain lasting over 20 days.

The patient also reported he could not eat anything.

During examination in the outpatient department, the patient's family revealed that for the past few weeks, he had been consuming coins and magnets.

Additionally, they revealed that the patient who has not been identified by name was undergoing treatment for a "known case of psychiatric illness", reports ANI.

A hidden treasure

An x-ray of the patient's abdomen revealed a 'hidden treasure' of coins and magnets. Doctors spotted radio-opaque shadows resembling the items. A subsequent CT scan confirmed that there was a significant accumulation of coins and magnets, which were causing intestinal blockage. These surprising heaps necessitated an immediate surgical intervention.

During the surgery, doctors discovered that the magnets and coins had formed two separate loops in the small intestine, which were pulling together because of the magnetic effect, leading to erosion.

The coins and magnets were meticulously removed, and the two loops were rejoined through separate anastomoses — a surgical procedure to join two structures.

Further exploration revealed a substantial number of coins in the stomach, which were also extracted, and the stomach was repaired.

The medical team successfully extracted 39 coins from the patient's digestive tract. These coins comprised Rs 1, 2, and 5 coins. Additionally, they also removed 37 magnets of various shapes, including heart, spherical, star, bullet, and triangle.

Following the successful procedure, an operative x-ray confirmed the complete removal of all foreign objects and the patient was discharged in a healthy condition after a week-long hospital stay.

Later, the patient revealed that he had swallowed the coins and magnets believing that zinc would aid in body-building. The coins contained zinc, and he ingested the magnets to ensure the coins remained in the intestine for enhanced zinc absorption.

Gillis was abruptly fired just a week after his SNL casting was announced. Addressing the situation back then, executive producer of SNL Lorne Michaels said in a statement that they hired Shane on ''the strength of his talent as a comedian and his impressive audition for ‘SNL.’ They were not aware of his prior remarks that were ''offensive, hurtful and unacceptable.''

Comedian and podcaster Shane Gillis made his comeback on Saturday Night Live as a host. During the monologue of the Feb 24 episode, Gillis made the audience recall his controversial exit from the show. However, in a comic way. In 2019, the comedian was fired from the cast after his homophobic, racist anti-Chinese, and misogynist remarks that he made on his podcast went viral. The comedian faced backlash when a clip from his Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast resurfaced. In the now-deleted clip, Gillis tells his co-host, comedian Matt McCusker, “Chinatown’s f**--- nuts, Let the f**-- ch**- live there.” Adorable! Actor Hannah Waddingham carries cardboard bag made by her daughter at SAG Awards Addressing his exit, Shane said in his speech on SNL, "Thank you very much. Yeah, I'm here, Most of you probably have no idea who I am. I was fired from this show a while ago.'' He said further, ''Don't look that up, please. Please don't Google that. It's fine. Don't even worry about it. I probably shouldn't be up here honestly. I should be at home. I should be a high school football coach." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Saturday Night Live (@nbcsnl) × Gillis was abruptly fired just a week after his SNL casting was announced. Addressing the situation back then, executive producer of SNL Lorne Michaels said in a statement that they hired Shane on ''the strength of his talent as a comedian and his impressive audition for ‘SNL.’ They were not aware of his prior remarks that were ''offensive, hurtful and unacceptable.'' However, Gillis' monologue was not all about his exit. He went on to crack jokes about his family, about his relationship with his mother and his family members with Down's syndrome. Priyanka Chopra joins To Kill a Tiger team as executive producer; Netflix acquires global rights "Look, I don't have any material that can be on TV, alright?," he said in his monologue. "I'm trying my best. Also, this place is extremely well lit. I can see everyone not enjoying it. This is the most nervous I've ever been." The comedian hosted NBC’s sketch show alongside musical guest 21 Savage.
Controversial rapper Kanye West and his better-half Bianca Censori continue to shock the world with their unique yet bizarre sartorial choices. The duo has been dominating the headlines for the unconventional things that they most often do, whether it's doing objectionable activities publicly or walking barefoot. However, recently, Bianca left onlookers in shock at Milan Fashion Week with another wacky look.
On Friday, Kanye stepped out with his Australian wife, who turned heads with a leather look that left most of her body on display. For the fashionable Milan night, Bianca took fashion to the next level as she ditched her pants and walked in a nearly nude outfit.

The 29-year-old was wearing a black leather bodysuit that covered only one-fourth of her body. The latex suit put her buttocks, sides of her boobs, and many intimate parts on a clear display. To match her look, she wore pink boots.

Meanwhile, Rapper Ye was wearing a black tracksuit as he showed off his $850K titanium teeth.

Kanye and Bianca's wacky fashion sense has been dominating the headlines for months now. A few weeks ago, Bianca debuted her short hair bangs just before the release of Ye's Vultures album, which again went on to become a topic of discussion.
If reports are to be believed, Kanye and Bianca's love story began in January 2023, and they got married two months after the Donga singer finalised his divorce from Kim Kardashian. After months of rumours in May of the same year, Censori confirmed her marriage to a controversial rapper. The duo reportedly got married in a private ceremony, after which West was spotted wearing a wedding ring.

#biancacensori 📸 #jalalalkali pic.twitter.com/El13OEb9pa — Jalal Alkali (@jalalalkali_) February 24, 2024 × Soon after Kanye and Censori made their public appearance, their pictures were quick to take the internet by storm.
Nothing lasts forever, but for Bobi, the Portuguese mastiff, his title as the "world's oldest" dog didn't even last a year. In a surprising turn of events, on Thursday (Feb 22) Bobi was dethroned by Guinness World Records (GWR). The canine's title was revoked after officials could not substantiate his age claims.

What Guinness World Record said

In a statement, GWR declared that it "no longer has the evidence it needs to support Bobi's claim as the record holder."

The dog's owners had asserted that Bobi was 31 years and five months old when he passed away in October. This age, equivalent to approximately 220 canine years, had initially secured Bobi's position as both the oldest living dog and the oldest dog ever recorded by GWR.

However, doubts surrounding Bobi's age surfaced soon after his "coronation". Veterinary experts questioned the feasibility of a dog living that long, with some pointing to discrepancies in photographs of Bobi from 1999 compared to those taken before his death in Portugal last year.

While Bobi's age had been registered on Portugal's national pet database, critics noted that this was based on the owners' self-certification, and pet microchipping in Portugal only began in 2008. Genetic testing confirmed that Bobi was indeed old but could not pinpoint his exact age.

False claims

Danny Chambers, a vet and council member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, soon after Bobi's death suggested that claims about the dog's age were false.

Chambers emphasised the implausibility of a dog living over 30 years, likening it to a human living beyond 200 years was inconceivable.

"This is the equivalent of a human living to over 200 years old which, given our current medical capabilities, is completely implausible. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and no concrete evidence has been provided to prove his age," he said.

An investigation by the technology magazine Wired discovered the Portuguese database had "no registration or data that can confirm or deny" the owners' claims that Bobi was born in 1992. Despite requests for clarification, Bobi's owner, Leonel Costa, did not respond to inquiries.

Nearly $100,000 for Elton John's monogrammed silver boots and around $2 million for a triptych by street artist Banksy from his collection: the music icon's personal items brought in almost $8 million at auction Wednesday in New York.

Christie's auction house is running a series of eight sales, both in person and online, through February 28 for the collection of the 76-year-old's belongings, including an ivory and gold glam rock jumpsuit from the early 1970s designed by Annie Reavey, which sold for $12,600.

As enthusiastic collectors made bids, John's grand piano fetched over $200,000, while a pair of sunglasses, a key element of the singer's signature look, found a buyer for $22,680, ten times more than the initial estimate.

Most of the items come from the artist's luxury home in Atlanta, Georgia, which had served as a base for his American tours, and which he recently sold.

The legendary musician, known for hits like "Your Song," "Rocket Man," and "Sacrifice," for flamboyant costumes and a commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS, wrapped up his farewell tour last year.

John bought the Atlanta home shortly after getting sober in 1990, Christie's said, as the singer found "solace and support in the warm community and recovery facilities" there.

With works by artists Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe and Richard Avedon, the collection, which he built together with his husband David Furnish, shows the couple's taste in contemporary art.

The personal collections of pop culture icons have become a regular feature at the world's top auction houses.
Across decades, there apparently lies a link that ties together the current US President Joe Biden and Abraham Lincoln, the US president known for granting freedom to slaves. Recently uncovered documents show that Lincoln pardoned the great-great-grandfather of Biden. For what? Read on to know.

A pardon

The records from a court-martial, held in the US National Archives and reported by the Washington Post, describe the trial of Moses J. Robinette, President Biden's great-great-grandfather. He was accused of attempted murder following a late-night altercation with John J. Alexander, a fellow civilian employee of the Union Army, on March 21, 1864, at the Army of the Potomac's winter camp in Virginia.

The incident reportedly occurred when Alexander overheard Robinette saying something about him to a cook and confronted him. A scuffle ensued, during which Robinette drew his pocketknife, inflicting several cuts on Alexander before others intervened.

Robinette, a 42-year-old veterinary surgeon hired by the army, argued that he acted in self-defence, fearing serious injury from Alexander, who was much stronger and larger.

He insisted that Alexander "possibly might have injured me seriously had I not resorted to the means I did".

Despite his plea, Robinette was convicted by military judges and sentenced to two years of hard labour. However, three army officers petitioned Lincoln to reconsider, citing the harshness of the sentence and Robinette's circumstances. They said he was defending himself against someone "much his superior in strength and size."

Lincoln reviewed the case and granted a pardon on September 1 of the same year, overturning Robinette's conviction.

Historical revelation

Historian David J. Gerleman, in the Washington Post, noted that this story had remained untold for more than a century. It "has waited 160 years to be told," he writes.

The European Space Agency (ESA) on Monday (Feb 19) released images of a dead satellite as it tumbles down to Earth in what could potentially be a fiery spectacle.

The dead satellite was part of ESA's scientific Earth-monitoring mission called ERS-2. It was launched on April 21, 1995, and after a 16-year career, it retired in 2011.

During the time it was active, the ERS-2 collected data on polar ice, changing land surfaces, sea-level rise, warming oceans and atmospheric chemistry. Additionally, the satellite was also pressed into service during natural disasters in remote regions.

The dead satellite weighs approximately 5,057 pounds (2,293.82 kg) and is expected to start disintegrating at about 50 miles (80.47 kilometres) above the ground.
Everyone was left shocked when nominations for the Academy Awards were announced, and one of the strong contenders of this year's award season Greta Gerwig's Barbie was absent from the major categories. Several stars including actor Ryan Gosling, and America Ferrera, have reacted to the snub, and most recently Helen Mirren has shared her views on the Barbie snub.

Mirren, who is the narrator of Greta's movie, has opened up about the movie getting sidelined at the Academy Awards and explained why there is no need to get upset about that.

Speaking at the 2024 American Cinematheque Awards on Thursday (February 15), Helen told ET, “You can’t get upset about things like that, honestly,”

Mean Girls actor Avantika Vandanapu: When you're bullied by your own people, it hurts a little more

She added, “What is fantastic is that Barbie was the highest-grossing film that Warner Brothers has ever had in their lives and do you remember who won best film of the year before last?”

Barbie earned 8 nominations, including one for America Ferrara, who earned her first Academy nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category. Barbie director Greta Gerwig and lead star Margot Robbie not getting nominated at the Academy was a big shock.

Ferrera expressed her disappointment saying, “I was incredibly disappointed that they weren’t nominated. Greta (Gerwig) has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it. Creating this world, and taking something that didn’t have inherent value to most people and making it a global phenomenon. It feels disappointing to not see her on that list.”

Praising Margot Robbie, she said, “What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable. One of the things about Margot as an actress is how easy she makes everything look. And perhaps people got fooled into thinking that the work seems easy, but Margot is a magician as an actress in front of the screen, and it was one of the honours of my career to get to witness her pull off the amazing performance she did. She brings so much heart and humour and depth and joy and fun to the character. In my book, she’s a master.”

Despite the tough competition from Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, Robbie-starrer went on to become a major hit. The film made history by surpassing the $1.342 billion global earnings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, becoming the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros' history.

Speaking at the 2024 American Cinematheque Awards on Thursday (February 15), Helen told ET, “You can’t get upset about things like that, honestly,” Mean Girls actor Avantika Vandanapu: When you're bullied by your own people, it hurts a little more She added, “What is fantastic is that Barbie was the highest-grossing film that Warner Brothers has ever had in their lives and do you remember who won best film of the year before last?” Barbie earned 8 nominations, including one for America Ferrara, who earned her first Academy nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category. It feels disappointing to not see her on that list.” Amy Schumer slams trolls who joked about her 'puffy face' Praising Margot Robbie, she said, “What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable. In my book, she’s a master.” Despite the tough competition from Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, Robbie-starrer went on to become a major hit. The film made history by surpassing the $1.342 billion global earnings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, becoming the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros' history.
