In western Canada, an animal welfare group faces a daunting task: caring for approximately 300 cats, all seemingly healthy. The challenge arose when a man, feeling "overwhelmed," reached out for help, revealing a home overrun by cats and kittens.

How did the man collect 300 cats?

The answer to the question is Bruce Robinson who rescued them. He explained to the British Columbia SPCA that he had taken in abandoned cats during the pandemic, but after losing his job, the cost became overwhelming.

As per the Guardian, responding to his request, the BC SPCA sent staff to his home to assess the situation, revealed the animal aid organisation's Eileen Drever. There, they were met with a situation Robinson himself described as trying to count bubbles in boiling water.

"When asked how many cats he had, I think he said it was like counting bubbles in boiling water."

A big heart

Despite his struggle, Robinson had a big heart, ensuring the cats were cared for. The BC SPCA staff said that the cats were sociable and seemed to be in a good condition.

"You know, he had a huge heart, and he was caring for them," Drever told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

With one cat capable of three litters a year, their numbers quickly multiplied, and Robinson now had 298 cats, including 15 pregnant ones, at his home.

"I ended up in a crazy situation," he said, adding, "I made a bad decision … I thought I could handle the cats."

He had even tried to find them new homes, but had little to no luck. He ended up spending thousands monthly, sometimes going hungry himself, to provide the necessary 28 kg of food daily and 10 litter boxes' worth of cat litter.

Each cat had a name and a special place in Robinson's heart. "I love every one of them," he said. Despite the challenges, he wanted to give them a safe home.

The SPCA is now working to raise funds and find a suitable place to house the cats, where they will be assessed by a veterinarian, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered before adoption.

"This is a huge undertaking, and it’s going to take resources from around the province to bring these animals in," said Drever.

Despite the overwhelming situation, charges against Robinson are not being considered, as he sought help when he realised he was in over his head.

"Kudos to him for recognising he was overwhelmed," said Drever.

The SPCA, as per the report, were helping provide food, supplies, and litter to the cats and was seeking to move them ASAP.

"He had, the other day, between 70 and 80 newborn kittens," said the BC SPCA, explaining "That's why we need to move as quickly as we can."

"I have never seen so many cats in good condition. They appear to be in good condition," she remarked.

Swantantrya Veer Savarkar Twitter review: Netizens hail Randeep's performance, call it masterpeice

Actress Rani Mukerji has often kept her personal life away from the spotlight. In 2023, she opened up about suffering a miscarriage in 2020, and now Mukerji is talking about the traumatic experience and the struggle that she had to go through while trying for her second child.

Speaking to Galatta India, Rani shared that she and her husband Aditya Chopra, tried for a second baby for seven years.

“Of course, it’s difficult. I tried for a second baby for almost seven years. My daughter is eight years old now, and when she was one or one-and-a-half, I tried for my second, and I kept trying, and I finally got pregnant and then I lost the baby. Obviously, it was a very, very testing time for me. And also, I’m not very young, though I look young,'' Rani said.

Shakira has never shied away from talking about her life after breaking up with ex-partner Gerard Piqué. It's been more than two years since the Columbian singer announced her breakup with her footballer ex-boyfriend, Gerard Piqué Bernabeu. The former couple dated for 11 years and during their time together, they had welcomed two sons: Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9. Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Shakira, 47, talked about why she chose not to get married. “In a way, it’s kind of good not to have a husband because that… I don’t know why it was dragging me down, man,” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer said. Shakira says she prioritised relationship with Gerard Piqué over music career The singer added, “Now I feel like working. I feel like writing songs. I feel like making music. It’s a compulsive need of mine that I didn’t feel before,” said Shakira adding, “When life gives you lemons, you have to make lemonade.” Reflecting on handling her two kids all alone without a husband, Shakira said it was kind of challenging for her. Blade Runner actor M. Emmet Walsh dies at 88 The singer, who moved from Spain to the US, after ending her relationship with Piqué, explained, “It’s more challenging because now I’m in charge of these two kids, these two babies that depend on me so much. And I’m a single mother, I don’t have a husband at home to help out with anything.” Sharing more about her personal life, Shakira in the interview discussed prioritising supporting Pique's career, over her. "For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football," she told the outlet. "There was a lot of sacrifice for love."
Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has talked about his struggle with alcoholism and how it was the major reason behind his failed first marriage with Honey Irani.

Akhtar is one of the celebrities who fearlessly put his views forward. During his recent interview with Mojo Story, Akhtar recalled drinking heavily which eventually led to the end of his 11-year-long marriage.

“I started drinking at the age of 20-21 and left when I was 42 years old. I could afford a bottle and used to drink almost a bottle every night. It’s very common for Urdu poets to become big drunkards because they believe that if they are poets and artistes, they should be carefree and you should drink. I think I had those wrong values,” he said.

Recalling how he used to become nasty and used foul words under intoxication. He added, “On the other side, all the tehzeeb [good manners] that I learned in Lucknow didn’t allow me to use foul language, so all the bitterness was compressed inside me. But when I used to drink all those barriers will break and I would become a very nasty man and would use foul language. I used to become another person. It was unhealthy, irrational and causing problem to many people. It impacted my marriage with Honey. If I was a sober and responsible person, the story would have been different.”

Javed married songwriter Honey in 1972. They are parents to two children - filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and filmmaker Zoya Akhtar. After a decade of marriage, the former couple got divorced in 1984, after which Javed married Shabana Azmi.

During the same interview, he shared that Shabana ‘somehow managed’ his alcoholism for the first ’10 years of their marriage’. Akhtar eventually stopped drinking after he realised that he might ‘die soon’ due to excessive drinking, and since then he hasn't taken “a sip of champagne.”

The government in the Indian state of Karnataka has banned the use of artificial colours in the popular 'Gobi Manchurian' dish and cotton candy over serious health concerns. Dinesh Gundu Rao, who is the minister for health and family welfare, made this announcement in the Vidhana Soudha.

Several concerns were raised over the quality of artificial colours and their excess usage, forcing the food safety and quality department to collect samples of Gobi Manchurian and cotton candy being sold across the state. The samples were analysed in laboratories.

The Food Safety Commissioner ordered a ban on the usage of any artificial colours in preparation for Gobi Manchurian based on the lab results which found them carcinogenic.

Rao said, "171 samples of Gobi Manchurian were collected, among which, 107 samples contained unsafe artificial colours. The unsafe colours such as tartrazine, sunset yellow and carmoisine were found."

The minister further said, "About 25 cotton candy samples were collected and 15 samples contained unsafe colours. In this, tartrazine, sunset yellow and Rhodamine –B unsafe colours were found."

"Rhodamine-B is carcinogenic. It can cause cancer if you consume it regularly and is banned. This is a serious issue as children often consume cotton candy. The use of this colour is illegal. It was used to get the pink colour for the cotton candy," he explained.
