<p>Rohit Sharma looks clueless about his batting, captaincy and Test future. On day two of the third BGT Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, his tactics and field changes raised eyebrows in the commentary box and on the internet, with the fans and former cricketers coming hard on the Indian skipper. Ex-Aussie batter Simon Katich even called his captaincy ‘dumb’.</p></p>
<p>Just after lunch on day two, Siraj and Bumrah tried the short-ball tactic against Head, knowing his knack for falling prey to it. Though Rohit did have a third man in the position for one of Siraj's overs, he removed it in his next after Siraj failed to bowl him to the plan. That move, however, gave Head the leverage to play an overhead shot for a boundary, only for Katich to bash Rohit for his mediocre tactics.</p>

<p>Travis Head has been a thorn in Team India’s flesh for over a year. Since costing them the WTC Final 2025 with a stunning hundred, Head broke a billion hearts with a decisive and match-winning 137 against the hosts in the 2023 ODI World Cup Final. Though his magnificent 89 against Rohit’s team in this year’s T20 World Cup in the Americas went in vain, his one in the second Test in Adelaide in the ongoing BGT didn’t.</p>
<p>Thanks to his 140 in the Pink-Ball Test, Australia won the second game, levelling the five-match series 1-1. </p>

Nonetheless, he remains second after Ravindra Jadeja as the spin-bowling all-rounder when India tour&nbsp;out of the subcontinent (i.e. in SENA countries). Recently, Ashwin opened up about not getting enough opportunities while playing overseas. In addition, he&nbsp;made a big claim about being denied Test captaincy.</p>

<h2><strong>'A person who knows that they will get only two games will be traumatised'</strong></h2>

<p>In an exclusive interaction with Indian Express, Ashwin&nbsp;said: "A lot of people marketed me and positioned me that I am an overthinker. A person who will get 15-20 matches on the go doesn’t have to be mentally overthinking. A person who knows that they will get only two games will be traumatised and will be overthinking because it’s my job. It’s my journey. So this is what suits me. If somebody is going to tell me, ‘you’re going to play 15 matches, you will be looked after, you will be this, you are responsible for players, you are in the leadership role, I won’t be overthinking. Why would I?"</p>

<p>"It’s unfair to actually say somebody’s an overthinker because that person’s journey is his own. And nobody has a right or business to do that."</p>

Ever since Virat Kohli relinquished captaincy altogether, being sacked as an ODI skipper and quitting from the role in the other two formats, Rohit Sharma has done well as India's full-time captain but hasn't led a lot in Tests and ODIs (due to rest, Covid or injury concerns).</p>

<p>KL Rahul led India during the South Africa tour, Rishabh Pant led amid the former's injury during a second-stringed Indian team's home T20Is versus the Proteas, Hardik Pandya joined the leadership group and led during the Ireland T20Is in Dublin (also leading in a T20I during the recent West Indies series). In addition, Jasprit Bumrah led in the one-off Test versus England whereas Shikhar Dhawan was in-charge during the Windies ODIs, in the Caribbean island. In between, Kohli had also led in two Tests in SA before giving up the red-ball captaincy. At 35, Rohit is certainly not going to have a long run as a full-time captain. With so many being auditioned in the leadership role, former cricketers and experts continue to predict who will succeed Rohit as full-time captain or captaining in Tests or limited-overs.</p>

<p>In this regard, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra feels Rishabh Pant might just pip KL Rahul -- who is touted to be the next all-format captain -- to become the Test skipper post Rohit's tenure.
