Rajasthan Royals are set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday as the race for playoffs continues to enthral fans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Rajasthan Royals are currently sitting fifth in the points table with eight points to their name in 10 matches, whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad are seventh with six points in nine games in IPL 2020.

If Rajasthan Royals manage to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday then the Steve Smith-led outfit will climb straight to the fourth spot, replacing Kolkata Knight Riders in net run-rate. Interestingly, KKR, who are sitting fourth in the table, have the worst NRR and could be in trouble if it comes to taking the fourth spot with the same points as others.

Whereas it is almost a do-or-die match for Sunrisers Hyderabad as the defeat would see them in a similar spot as Chennai Super Kings and they will have to depend on other results besides winning all their remaining matches.

Mumbai City on Thursday confirmed the signing of midfielder Ahmed Jahouh. The 32-year-old Moroccan joins the club after putting pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Islanders.&nbsp;

A native of Al Araoui in Morocco, Jahouh started his career with Ittihad Khemisset before moving to Moghreb Tétouan in 2010. Jahouh plied his trade at Moghreb for five seasons winning two league titles in the process, and featured in his last season at the club under then-coach Sergio Lobera and with teammate Mourtada Fall. Jahouh would go on to feature for Raja Casablanca and FUS Rabat, both in Morocco.&nbsp;

In 2017, Jahouh reunited with Lobera in India at FC Goa. The Moroccan was pivotal to Sergio Lobera’s set up and became a key fixture for the Goan side over the next three seasons, making 56 league appearances and winning the 2019/20 ISL League Shield and the 2019 Super Cup.&nbsp;

I have spent three years in India and I believe that I have a lot left to achieve. When I spoke to the management here at Mumbai City about the targets and the vision they have, I was convinced that this Club is where I wanted to be. ISL 2020-21: Mumbai City sign midfielder Ahmed Jahouh

Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a humiliating 8-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 39 of the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl">2020 IPL</a>, at Abu Dhabi. Batting first, Kolkata were reduced to 40/6 in the 13th over. They then recovered to 84/8, the lowest score in IPL history by a side without getting bowled out. The wreckers-in-chief were Mohammed Siraj (4-2-8-3), Yuzvendra Chahal (4-0-15-2), and Washington Sundar (4-1-14-1). Bangalore then took their time, reaching the target in the 14th over.

In My11 Circle Cricbuzz Live, Mpumelelo ‘Pommie’ Mbangwa was all in praise of Siraj: “Siraj, into the side [sic], bowl upfront [sic], get it to move [sic], bowl the length that gets it to move[sic], where many a time you’d bowl back of that length, because you don’t want to disappear when you are hit, you are thinking in a defensive fashion rather than in an attacking fashion.”

Simon Doull chipped in: “Those numbers were just phenomenal tonight. He was superb. Sometimes on a surface that offers you only a little bit … He just found that length that kissed through nicely, hit the top of off-stump … Perfect length, he bowls with genuine good pace too … He should have been in the side early on in the tournament, just to give him the confidence.”

Siraj becomes the first bowler to bowl two maiden overs in the same IPL match. He had figures of 2-2-0-3 at one point.

Speaking of Kolkata’s performance, Doull said: “The little worry for Kolkata is just how they have been fortunate to win games – and fortunate courtesy of a couple of collapses from other teams – they haven’t really found their batting strength … We haven’t seen them consistently put those 180s, 190s on the board and bat really well … Although they are reasonably well-placed on the table … they haven’t batted particularly well in the tournament as a whole.”

“The troubles are not in one area,” said Mbangwa, explaining Kolkata’s performance. “Whether you’re looking at the top of the batting … They don’t know which way they want to the middle order … Their bowling has not really gone that well … It’s just a whole big struggle … There’s a clutter of the minds within the KKR camp. There is searching for what will work, how it’s supposed to work, and so on and so forth.”

The win took RCB to second place, level with DC on points but behind on net run rate. Kolkata are fourth.

England's white-ball captain Eoin Morgan said players should have the freedom to withdraw from tours if the bio-secure bubbles are affecting their "mental health".

West Indies toured England in June, a month ahead of their three-Test series to restart cricket after the coronavirus pandemic halted most major sporting events across the globe.

Players have since been confined to bio-secure environments on tours and during tournaments, including at the ongoing Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates.

"We managed to fulfil all of our international fixtures for the summer," Morgan, who is also leading the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, told various media.

"But to keep that level of bubble for 10 of the 12 months that we normally travel, I think is untenable. You can drill a player both mentally and physically. And it can cause extreme burnout, which nobody wants to see."

England hosted West Indies, Pakistan, Ireland and Australia this summer with all matches played in Manchester and Southampton.

The players' travel was restricted from the on-site hotels to the grounds and Morgan feels that more similar tours will only increase the stress levels.

"We've spoken about this as a team and we've accepted that guys will come in and out of the bubble as they feel it is affecting their mental health," said Morgan.

"I don't think people should look down on it and they shouldn't feel like people aren't doing their job or not committing to their country.

"That's a reactive way of dealing with things and we want to be at the forefront of making it acceptable for people to say 'I need to spend time with my family now and I'm taking this tour off' just because of the extraordinary circumstances."

England are scheduled to tour South Africa for limited-overs matches next month, with tours of Sri Lanka and India to follow early next year.

West Indies Test captain Jason Holder also believes going from one bubble to another has been "demanding".

"It's been demanding. It has been challenging," said Holder, who replaced injured Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in Sunrisers Hyderabad's IPL squad last month.

"And if you look at scheduling, it doesn't get any easier. It's literally going from bubble to bubble. Some places are accepting families and some aren't. So it makes it harder to be away from your family and your loved ones."

Holder played for Trinidad in the Caribbean Premier League before being called to the UAE for India's cash-rich Twenty20 tournament.

Ciro Immobile scored early against his former club Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday as Lazio marked their return to the Champions League after a 13-year absence with a 3-1 Group F win.

Italy's Immobile beat Marwin Hitz in the Dortmund goal after six minutes in Rome, with a deflection off the Germans' keeper responsible for the hosts' second goal.

Norway star Erling Braut Haaland pulled a goal back after 71 minutes but Immobile set up Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro for the third five minutes later in front of a crowd of 1,000 at the Stadio Olimpico.

It was a welcome boost for Simone Inzaghi's side who are now top in a group which also includes Zenit and Club Brugge.

"It was an incredible emotion to bring this club and this shirt back to the Champions League," said Immobile, last season's Serie A top scorer with 36 goals.

The capital city club have experienced a stuttering start to their league season with just one win in four games, and a 3-0 defeat to Sampdoria last weekend.

"There was an extra flavour and we are satisfied because the match was played to perfection," continued Immobile.&nbsp;

"We met a strong team, it was a difficult match but we needed a game like this to give us a psychological boost after the game against Sampdoria, to be able to have our say among the great in Europe and also in the league."

Immobile and Joaquin Correa started up front with Hitz replacing Roman Buerki in the Dortmund goal and Haaland leading the Bundesliga outfit's attack.

Luiz Felipe returned for Lazio after a month out with an ankle problem, with Emre Can suspended for the away side.

Lazio pounced on their first chance with Thomas Meunier losing the ball to Lucas Leiva who crossed for Correa to serve up Immobile for his fifth Champions League goal and first since playing for Dortmund in December 2014.

<h2>- Dortmund's worst signing? -</h2>

Thomas Strakosha stuck out his leg to block Raphael Guerreiro in Dortmund's first chance after 21 minutes.

But Inzaghi's men doubled their lead in the 23rd minute when Luis Alberto's corner was deflected in off Hitz's head.

Haaland revived hopes of a German fightback, only for Luis Alberto to send through for Immobile to lay it on for Akpa Akpro for the third goal.

""We didn't have patience, we were frantic. We played badly and never managed the ball," said Dortmund coach Lucien Favre.&nbsp;

For Immobile, who has been under fire for his recent performances with the Italian national team, the victory was sweet, even more so as it was against a team he had an unsuccessful spell with back in 2014.

"Did they say I was Dortmund's worst signing? I arrived at Dortmund at the wrong time, during a generational change," said Immobile.&nbsp;

"There were some difficulties, but I don't want to say anything about this. I know when I deserve praise or criticism.&nbsp;

"I missed a goal tonight, I will miss more, but I hope to score many more than I miss for Lazio and the national side."

'Played to perfection:' Immobile's Lazio shock Dortmund on Champions League return

Frank Lampard admitted he was happy to take a point and a clean sheet from Chelsea's goalless Champions League opener against Sevilla after so much criticism of his side's defensive capabilities.

Edouard Mendy returned from injury to replace the error-strewn Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal, but the Senegal international was rarely troubled in an uninspiring match far from the chaos that has characterised the early weeks of the Premier League season.

Chelsea have contributed to that with two 3-3 draws in their opening five games, including at home to Southampton on Saturday when they blew the lead twice.

But Lampard pointed to personnel issues in getting many of his signings from a &nbsp;£220 million ($284 million) spending spree on the pitch together for Chelsea's slow start to the season.

The Blues have now won just two of their opening six games of the campaign, but looked far more solid with Thiago Silva back in the side as one of five new signings in the starting line-up.

"He was very good today. He brought quality and experience and affected others around him and that was a big part of us getting a clean sheet," Lampard said of the veteran Brazilian centre-back.

"We are going to get better. We haven't had the personnel in there playing regularly, the more we do that, we'll get better."

With Champions League debutants Rennes and Krasnodar making up Group E, both sides were happy to settle for a point against what they will perceive as their toughest opponents in the section.

"It was cagey," added Lampard. "Two pretty good teams cancelling each other out in the first game, which is understandable. We take the point and move on."

Sevilla were without highly-rated centre-back Jules Kounde, who attracted interest from Manchester City last month, due to a coronavirus infection.

However, the organised defensive structure that saw Julen Lopetegui's men beat Manchester United and Inter Milan to win Sevilla's sixth Europa League title in August kept Chelsea's expensive collection of attacking stars quiet.

Timo Werner was the Blues' biggest threat, but the Germany forward wasting his best chance by skewing a shot wide with the last action of the first-half.

Chelsea posed a greater attacking threat after half-time as Christian Pulisic came alive after the US attacker was switched onto the left flank.

Pulisic's run won the corner which produced the home side's best chance of the night, but centre-back Zouma placed his header straight at Bono.

"The last little bit wasn't there today," said Lampard. "We've scored a lot of goals in the Premier League already this season and we will score goals.

"Today the bonus is the clean sheet. It's a long season and we are in the early stages of it."

Joan Jordan came within inches of winning the game in spectacular style for Sevilla as his sweetly struck volley from the edge of the box dipped onto the roof of the net.

But Lopetegui was happy to settle for a draw against a side that has spent more in one transfer window than Sevilla's entire turnover for last season.

“I'm happy with the job we did and the mentality and personality we showed at a difficult place to come," said Lopetegui. "Against a team who spent 250 million euros this summer and with good players in every position, it required a big collective effort."

But Lampard pointed to personnel issues in getting many of his signings from a £220 million ($284 million) spending spree on the pitch together for Chelsea's slow start to the season. We haven't had the personnel in there playing regularly, the more we do that, we'll get better." With Champions League debutants Rennes and Krasnodar making up Group E, both sides were happy to settle for a point against what they will perceive as their toughest opponents in the section. "It was cagey," added Lampard. "Two pretty good teams cancelling each other out in the first game, which is understandable. We take the point and move on." Sevilla were without highly-rated centre-back Jules Kounde, who attracted interest from Manchester City last month, due to a coronavirus infection. It's a long season and we are in the early stages of it." Joan Jordan came within inches of winning the game in spectacular style for Sevilla as his sweetly struck volley from the edge of the box dipped onto the roof of the net.

Lampard comforted by clean sheet in Sevilla stalemate

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for his "excellent" Manchester United side on Tuesday after Marcus Rashford's late strike saw them win at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.

"The performance was good and we deserved to win it. It was a better performance than last time and it shows how we have developed," Solskjaer said following the 2-1 victory at the Parc des Princes in the Group H opener.

Rashford's 87th-minute effort decided the encounter in United's favour after an Anthony Martial own goal had cancelled out Bruno Fernandes's opening goal from the penalty spot in the first half.

It was a stunning three points for the Premier League side away to last season's runners-up, and Solskjaer was delighted with the way his defence largely kept quiet PSG's attacking trio of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria.

"We played against a fantastic team, and we have to defend well. The players have the keys. I don't think there is any secret, we need to play well and defend well to win against PSG," he said.

The Norwegian had elected to hand a debut at left-back to recent recruit Alex Telles and play with Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe in a three-man central defence. It was the latter's first start of 2020.

"We know Axel's qualities, he's a top defender. His first game in 10 months which is testament to the defender he is," Solskjaer told BT Sport.

The United boss also praised Rashford, whose dramatic last-gasp penalty at the same end had given them victory here in the last 16 in March 2019. Solskjaer joked the striker "likes that side of the stadium."

In a difficult group, they next face RB Leipzig at home next week, with the Germans fresh from beating Istanbul Basaksehir 2-0 on Tuesday.

After that they have a double-header against the Turkish champions with PSG still to come to Old Trafford in December.

"We know that to get through you probably need 10 points," Solskjaer said.

"We only have three so Leipzig is a big game but we have Chelsea next then Arsenal after (Leipzig) so there are so many games. I am happy to have so many good players to pick from."

'Better than last time' - Solskjaer delight as Man Utd repeat PSG feat

Ruled out of the remainder of IPL with a groin injury, Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has implored the beleaguered outfit's fans to keep supporting it in what has turned out to be a forgettable season.

The 37-year-old's pullout came as a massive blow to the already struggling side which has very slim chances of advancing to the play-offs.

"It's sad news, it's sad to be leaving my team CSK. To all our CSK fans, I want you all to keep encouraging the team, keep supporting, all the true die-hard CSK fans," Bravo said in a video message uploaded by the franchise on its Twitter handle.

"This wasn't a season we expected or our fans wanted, but we gave it our best. Sometimes, despite giving our best, the results don't show."

Bravo reminded the fans of CSK's excellent record of winning three IPLs in the past.

"Keep supporting us and I can guarantee you we're going to come back stronger and better like champions. One of the most successful franchises, I feel we should be proud to be members and fans of CSK."

Bravo, an integral part of the CSK team for years now, couldn't bowl the final over against Delhi Capitals in a match in Sharjah on October 17.

The West Indian played six games and scored only seven runs in two innings. However, he got six wickets at an economy rate of 8.57.

CSK's campaign has already been derailed after seven losses from 10 games. They are currently currently lying at the bottom of the league table.

Chennai Super Kings were already hamstrung by absence of senior players Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh, both of whom pulled out citing personal reasons.

The poor form of some of the senior players like skipper Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav has also hurt their cause.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) have agreed to biosecurity and travel plans for what will be the first international tour undertaken by an England cricket team since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

CSA approved the plans with the South African Government earlier this week granting exemptions for inbound travel for the England players and management.

Novak Djokovic said on Wednesday that he will not defend his Paris Masters title because he cannot gain any ranking points if he plays.&nbsp;

The world number one told Serbian daily Sportski Zurnal that due to the revised ranking system created amid the coronavirus pandemic he could not win any additional ranking points at next month's ATP event in the French capital.

Djokovic said his main priority is to remain first in the rankings until at least March 8 next year to break Roger Federer's record for most weeks in the ATP's top spot.

Rankings are calculated by the players' best results between March 2019 and December this year.&nbsp;

Djokovic, collected 1,000 points by wining in Paris last year and so cannot add to his total by playing there.

"I won't play the Masters in Paris as I can't win new points there. But I will go to Vienna and London", Djokovic said.

"I didn't play in Vienna last year and I can win up to 500 points there. There are lot of points to be won in London as well."

Djokovic, 33, who lost the French Open final to Rafael Nadal earlier this month is training in Belgrade.

He said he has to keep an eye on Nadal and Dominic Thiem, the two men closest to him in the rankings.

"It depends also on Nadal and Thiem's score until the end of this year, and also on following Australian Open, but I am in a good position," Djokovic said.

Djokovic is almost 2,000 points ahead of second best Nadal, but the Spaniard demolished the 17-time Grand Slam winner aside 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 in the Roland Garros final.

Midfielder Mesut Ozil has not only been left out of Arsenal’s <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League 2020-21</a> squad but also from their Europa League plans for the season. The German international on Wednesday reacted to the glaring omission as he took to social media platforms to post a lengthy tweet accusing Arsenal of showing lack of loyalty.&nbsp;

Ozil, who is the highest-paid player in Arsenal’s history, might have played his last match in Arsenal colors as he has been excluded from the Premier League and Europa League squad but vowed to keep “fighting” for his chance.

Ozil was a regular face in Arsenal playing XI under Mikel Arteta before the last season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has failed to feature in the squad since then.

Going by Ozil’s statement where he wrote - “I will continue to train as best as I can and wherever possible use my voice against inhumanity and for justice” – it can be said that he is being dropped due his statement on China’s policy towards its Uighur Muslim minority. Since then, China had pulled Arsenal’s Premier League matches while removing his name and character from video games. Arsenal too had distanced themselves from Ozil’s statement on Uighur Muslims.

<h2>Mesut Ozil’s full statement:</h2>

This is a difficult message to write to the @Arsenal fans that I’ve played for over the past few years. I’m really deeply disappointed by the fact that I have not been registered for the @premierleague season for the time being. Upon signing my new contract in 2018, I pledged my loyalty and allegiance to the club that I love, Arsenal, and it saddens me that this has not been reciprocated. As I have just found out, loyalty is hard to come by nowadays. I've always tried to remain positive from week to week that there's maybe a chance to get back in the squad soon again. That's why I kept silent so far. Before the Coronavirus break I was really happy with the development under our new coach Mikel Arteta - we've been on a positive way and I would say my performances were on a really good level.

But then things changed, again, and I was not longer allowed to play football for Arsenal. What else can I say? London still feels like home, I still have many good friends in this team, and I still feel a strong connection with the fans of this club. No matter what, I will keep fighting for my chance and not let my 8th season at Arsenal end like this. I can promise you that this hard decision won't change anything in my mindset - I will continue to train as best as I can and wherever possible use my voice against inhumanity and for justice.

#M1Ö #YaGunnersYa

Reacting to Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) CEO Wasim Khan’s statement of calling for visa assurance from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the T20 World Cup 2021, a BCCI official has termed the statement by the PCB CEO as ignorant while saying that all the visa related issues were laid to rest in the last year.

An ICC spokesperson has, meanwhile, said that the visas will be provided to all competing teams and planning for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in India is underway on that basis, indicating no teams will face any issue when it comes to getting necessary clearance to participate in the tournament.&nbsp;

"The Host Agreement for all ICC events, including the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, provides that the host member will ensure visas are provided for all competing teams. The planning for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 in India is underway on that basis," an ICC spokesperson told ANI.

IPL 2020, KKR vs RCB Preview: Crucial points on the line as Bangalore take on Kolkata

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been dealt with a huge blow as veteran West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the ongoing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl">Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020</a> due to a groin injury. Bravo, who has been instrumental to CSK’s success in the past, has played a crucial role with both bat and ball for CSK in the past but won’t be seen playing anymore in IPL 2020 owing to a groin injury.

Bravo, who suffered the groin injury in CSK’s match against Delhi capitals, wasn’t in the field to bowl the 20th over which forced Dhoni to go with Ravindra Jadeja in the final over against Axar Patel and Shikhar Dhawan. CSK went on to lose the match.

"No, Bravo isn't playing any more part this time around and the groin injury has ruled him out. He will be flying back in a day or two," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told ANI.

Furthermore, Bravo had suffered an injury during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and even sat out of the first few matches for CSK. Bravo could manage only six matches for the Chennai outfit, bagging six wickets in IPL 2020.

CSK’s journey in IPL 2020 has been tough from the start after veterans Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh opted out of the T20 tournament due to personal reasons. After that, two players in Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Chahar tested positive for COVID-19 which created a bit of ruckus before the start of the lucrative tournament.&nbsp;

"Undoubtedly Raina and Harbhajan are both vital cogs in the CSK unit and they were missed. But you have to respect personal decisions and that is how we function irrespective of whether it is a senior or junior player," he added.

CSK are still mathematically alive in IPL 2020 but it is highly unlikely that the MS Dhoni-led outfit will qualify for the playoffs.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to announce the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of Australia by the end of this week, which will have three T20Is, as many ODIs and four Test matches, with as many as 32 players likely to be named for the full-fledged series between the two top sides.

The Sunil Joshi-led Indian selection committee will pick a jumbo squad given the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping injuries in mind.&nbsp;
With India’ tour of Australia set to last for two months, calling players from outside the bio-secure bubble could lead to complications and hence, a mega squad will be announced comprising of a squad for all three formats.&nbsp;

“They (selection committee) have been told to pick as large a squad as they want. We want back-up players ready and in Australia right through the tour. If a player gets injured, there shouldn’t be a situation where we have to call for a player from India," a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

A reason behind a jumbo squad is that players will be able to play intra-team practice games ahead of the main tour.&nbsp;
However, the dates for the matches haven’t been finalised yet and Adelaide will host the first, as per BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

“Cricket Australia has sent us an itinerary. We will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and four Tests there. The first Test will be a day-night game in Adelaide. The dates haven’t been finalised yet,” BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had said earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the players who will not be part of the Test squad will be sent back to India early as the white-ball series will take place before Tests.

Furthermore, families won’t be allowed in the Australian series, unlike the Indian Premier League.

We want back-up players ready and in Australia right through the tour. If a player gets injured, there shouldn’t be a situation where we have to call for a player from India," a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express. ALSO READ: Cricket in bio-bubbles can affect 'mental health', says Morgan A reason behind a jumbo squad is that players will be able to play intra-team practice games ahead of the main tour. BCCI to select 32-member Indian squad for Australia tour, no families allowed in bio-bubble: Report

Kings XI Punjab had a comfortable 5-wicket win against Delhi Capitals in Match 38 of the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl">2020 IPL</a>, at Dubai. Delhi put up 164/5, a score largely made possible by Shikhar Dhawan, who batted through the innings with an unbeaten 106 in 61 balls. Having slammed 101 not out in his previous match, against Chennai, Dhawan became the first in IPL history to score hundreds in consecutive matches.

However, that turned out to be inadequate once Chris Gayle (29 in 13) launched a furious onslaught, following which Nicholas Pooran (53 in 28) and Glenn Maxwell (32 in 24) added 69 in 40 balls. Punjab won with an over to spare.

In My11 Circle Cricbuzz Live, Lisa Sthalekar lauded Dhawan’s superb effort: “He picked up where he had left off [against Chennai]. His ability to play the spinners really well was an element of this game that just keeps building.”

“What I loved was the way he swept – the sweeps and the slog-sweeps because they targeted him with the off-spinner,” concurred Joy Bhattacharjya. “He changed the angle. It was not going to square leg. Because it was coming in down and coming early, he could pick his gap.

Reminding that Dhawan holds the IPL record for most fours hit, Bhattacharjya added: “He is basically a four-hitter … Fours are his bread and butter. He finds the gaps, finds them consistently, and because of his game, he finds them safely as well.”

It was an easy win in the end, Punjab had multiple lapses. “The biggest enemy or the toughest opposition Kings XI have is Kings XI themselves. Their previous record, the number of times they have stuffed up … Somehow they managed to keep Delhi in the match.”

Gayle took 26 off the fifth over during the chase, putting Punjab on track. “You can see how determined he was and how frustrated and annoyed when he got out. This is actually a key sign for Punjab … If Christopher Henry Gayle is caring that much … means that he is hungrier, and he wants more runs.”

Kings XI Punjab jumped past Rajasthan Royals to secure the fifth spot. Despite the defeat, however, Delhi Capitals stayed on the top.

Kings XI Punjab captain KL Rahul said that his pace spearhead Mohammed Shami wanted to bowl six yorkers in the Super Over while defending just five runs in their dramatic IPL match against Mumbai Indians here on Sunday.

The match ended in a tie in the regulation 20 overs and KXIP could only score five runs in the first Super Over but Shami bowled brilliantly to restrict MI to the same score. KXIP eventually won the match in the second Super Over.

"You can never prepare for Super Overs. No team does. So you have to trust your bowler's gut. You trust your bowler, and let them believe their instinct and gut," Rahul said at the post-match presentation.

"He (Shami) was very clear he wanted to go six yorkers. He has been phenomenal, and keeps getting better every game. It is important that senior players win the games for the team."

Rahul, who was named man of the match for his 77, expressed happiness at the victory but said his side would not want to make a habit of winning like this.

"It is not the first time. But we don't want to make a habit out of it. We will take the two points in the end. It doesn't always happen the way you plan so you don't really know how to stay balanced.

"I was just hoping we get over the line because the boys have been working really really hard. In the games that we have lost, even then we have played well and just not been able to get over the line."

He said the wicket was slightly slower and so he knew it would be important to get runs in the Powerplay.

"I knew Chris and Pooran... I trust them to take down spinners. So Chris coming in has made my job easier as a batter."

On his side winning two back-to-back close matches, he said, "We still want to take it one game at a time. It is sweet after the kind of matches we have lost but the talk in the dressing room is to focus on the process.

"We know we need to win everything from here, but we can't forget the processes that lead to a win."

Mumbai Indians batsman Kieron Pollard said the match showed that every run counted.

"In T20 cricket, 1 run and 2 runs are very very crucial. I am sure it was great for viewership. KXIP got the better of us and deserved the two points. KL again batted beautifully, going down to a Super Over, congratulations to them," he said.

"Around the 11-12 over, we knew we were a couple of overs behind. Getting 170-odd, that was a good total - above-par on a track that was on the slower side. With the dimensions, we thought we can defend that."

Despite the loss, Pollard said his side played good cricket.

"It's a matter of trying to improve each and every time. There are a couple of areas we need to improve on. We have a four-day break, enough time to reflect. The guys are confident in the dressing room.

"I was told that he (Rohit) is not feeling well (after the loss). We'll see what happens. He's a fighter," said the West Indian who remained not out on 34 off just 12 balls.

Asked how MI will take the energy-sapping loss, he said, "It's a game of cricket, you go out there to do your best, you prepare, there's a process and the situation dictates what happens.

"We were on the losing side tonight. We should have won this I believe deep down but these things happen."

Shami wanted to bowl six yorkers in Super Over: Rahul

Another high-scoring Premier League weekend left the title race wide open as Liverpool suffered the devastating blow of losing Virgil Van Dijk to a knee ligament injury.

The champions also dropped two points in a contentious 2-2 Merseyside derby draw as Everton remain in top spot.

Aston Villa are the only side with a 100 percent record after Ross Barkley's late winner beat Leicester 1-0.

But Chelsea and Tottenham's title credentials were again called into question after they managed to spurn multiple-goal leads to draw 3-3 at home to Southampton and West Ham respectively.

AFP Sports looks at three talking points from the Premier League weekend.

<h2>Derby costs Liverpool dear</h2>

Liverpool had the look of champions as they bounced back from a 7-2 humiliation at Villa before the international break with a much-improved performance at Everton.

But Jurgen Klopp's men lost more than just two points as decisions went against them at Goodison Park.

Van Dijk's season is likely over as he faces surgery on the ligament damage caused by a horrible lunge from Jordan Pickford that went unpunished when Liverpool led 1-0.

The Dutch giant's presence was missed as Everton twice scored headed goals to come back and snatch a point with the help of a VAR review to rule out a stoppage time winner for Liverpool.

But the loss of Van Dijk for a prolonged period threatens to be an even bigger blow to the Reds' title defence.

<h2>Another Kepa calamity</h2>

Chelsea could have moved level on points with Liverpool&nbsp;to bolster hopes that their huge summer transfer spend will be rewarded with a title challenge.

However, Frank Lampard's men twice let the lead slip as defensive problems continue to blight the Blues.

Kepa Arrizabalaga had another afternoon to forget in goal as his howler allowed Che Adams to score Southampton's second.

The Spaniard has already lost his place to Willy Caballero and Edouard Mendy this season, but returned due to an injury suffered by Mendy on international duty.

Mendy is clearly Lampard's long-term solution, but he has to also find a way to make Chelsea a better defensive unit in general.

Kepa was not in goal when they conceded three times to West Brom last month and Chelsea have now lost 63 goals in 43 league games under the former England midfielder.

<h2>Bad defending breeds better entertainment</h2>

Chelsea are far from alone when it comes to having a poor defensive record.

Barkley's late strike ensured there have still been no goalless draws and a quarter of the 48 Premier League games so far have featured six or more goals.

Tottenham have contributed to three of those as the combination of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min again shone in a 3-3 draw with West Ham.

Kane and Son have combined for 18 goals already this season, but Spurs could not even see out a three-goal lead with just eight minutes remaining.

Manuel Lanzini's sensational 94th-minute strike snatched a point for David Moyes's men but the former Manchester United manager is keen to see a return to some decent defending to go along with the drama.

"I can't work out if it is the quality of the forwards. I look it and see a lack of good defending," said Moyes.

"Games are played very one end and the other end. It is exciting, but I think if you are a purist you like to see good defending too."

Three talking points from the Premier League

West Ham ruined Gareth Bale's Tottenham return with a stunning late fightback from three goals down to rescue a thrilling 3-3 draw, while Aston Villa extended their perfect start with a dramatic 1-0 win at Leicester on Sunday.

Tottenham were leading 3-0 when Bale came on as a 72nd minute substitute for his first appearance since joining on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

But he suffered a debut to forget as Tottenham capitulated in astonishing fashion.

The Wales star was one of the main Tottenham culprits as he missed a golden opportunity to wrap up the points before West Ham's Manuel Lanzini snatched a stoppage-time equaliser.

Tottenham took the lead with just 45 seconds gone when Son Heung-min and Harry Kane combined to create a goal for the seventh time this season.

Kane was the catalyst, dropping deep into midfield before unfurling a majestic long pass that found Son, who cut into the West Ham area and curled his shot into the far corner.

It was Kane's turn to get on the scoresheet in the eighth minute as he nutmegged Declan Rice and fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Tottenham's sizzling start featured a third goal in the 16th minute, with England captain Kane heading in from Sergio Reguilon's pin-point cross for his 10th goal of the season.

Back at Tottenham seven years after leaving for Real in a then world record deal, Bale hopes to prove he is still a world-class talent despite a long spell out of favour with Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

But it was West Ham who were the dominant force after Bale's introduction to replace Steven Bergwijn.

Fabian Balbuena nodded in from Aaron Cresswell's cross after 82 minutes and Davinson Sanchez's headed own goal from Vladimir Coufal's delivery three minutes later left Tottenham panicking.

Bale should have scored in stoppage-time, but he shot wide after bursting into the area and Lanzini made him pay with a brilliant 25-yard blast into the top corner.

West Ham are the first team in Premier League history to avoid defeat in a game having trailed by three or more goals as late as the 81st minute.

"The game was under control. We had Harry Kane to score the fourth when he hit the post, then Gareth Bale to kill the game. This is a game that was in the pocket and we lost two points," Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho said.

"We should be stronger. They were lucky but maybe they deserved that luck. We were unlucky but maybe we deserved that."

At the King Power Stadium, Villa left it until the 90th minute to seal their fourth successive victory.

Ross Barkley, on loan from Chelsea, took John McGinn's pass and fired home from the edge of the area.

Just months after avoiding relegation on the final day of last season, Villa move up to second place.

They thrashed champions Liverpool 7-2 before the international break and now sit three points behind leaders Everton.

Villa have won their opening four games of a league season for the first time since 1930-31 and boss Dean Smith said: "It is a really good start. To come here and get the win, this is a really good team.

"There are a lot of tired legs but they are getting into the season slowly but surely. We will savour what we are doing at the moment."

<h2>- Mitrovic misery -</h2>

At Bramall Lane, Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic endured a penalty nightmare in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

Mitrovic fired over with his second half penalty after Jack Robinson handled.

Ademola Lookman put Fulham ahead in the 77th minute with a superb solo effort.

But Serbia international Mitrovic was penalised for a high foot on Robinson in the 85th minute and Billy Sharp made him pay as he drove his penalty down the middle.

Alexis Mac Allister netted his first Premier League goal in the 90th minute to give Brighton a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

Spurs rocked on Bale's return, Villa extend perfect start

It took Kings XI Punjab not one but two Super Overs to beat Mumbai Indians in Match 36 of the 2020 IPL, at Dubai. After the teams were tied on 176, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami conceded 5 runs in their respective Super Overs. Mumbai then took 11 off Chris Jordan’s over, but Chris Gayle’s first-ball six off Trent Boult left Mayank Agarwal to merely complete the formalities.

In My11 Circle Cricbuzz Live, Joy Bhattacharjya marked out Shami’s Super Over as the turning point: “That, for me, is the game there. Did you notice how Punjab looked after that happened? They knew they had escaped a bullet … And they said, ‘now we have a chance’.” Asked to defend a target of 6, Shami conceded 5.

Lisa Sthalekar, on the other hand, criticised Rohit Sharma’s batting during that over: “What was Rohit Sharma doing? He was kind of lapping – that’s not his shot, that’s not what he does! It’s just amazing what pressure does to players, and experienced players!” Rohit Sharma got 2 singles off the 3 balls he faced from Shami in that over.

Even before that excellent Super Over, Mumbai’s “go-to guy” Bumrah had pegged Punjab back with figures of 4-0-24-3, earning accolades from Sthalekar: “The fact that Rohit Sharma turns to him when he needs a wicket, he throws him the ball and goes ‘go on, son, can you get me a wicket? And he does! How much pressure he is always under!”

KL Rahul led Punjab’s chase with a 51-ball 77, becoming the first Indian batsman to reach the 500-run mark in each of three consecutive IPL seasons. “I feel he has been given the captaincy of a very tough franchise,” pointed out Gaurav Kapur. “The Punjab captaincy is a revolving door. He is just gold in every season. I don’t want him to lose this golden touch with the burden of captaincy of a team that has been losing”.

Quinton de Kock top-scored for Mumbai with a 43-ball 53, his fourth fifty in five matches. Sthalekar explained the reason behind de Kock’s form: “Obviously captaincy for South Africa has certainly helped him, maybe read the game and know his role even better.”

The win took Punjab to sixth place, ahead of Chennai and Rajasthan. Mumbai are currently second, behind only Delhi.

He is just gold in every season. I don’t want him to lose this golden touch with the burden of captaincy of a team that has been losing”. Quinton de Kock top-scored for Mumbai with a 43-ball 53, his fourth fifty in five matches. Sthalekar explained the reason behind de Kock’s form: “Obviously captaincy for South Africa has certainly helped him, maybe read the game and know his role even better.” The win took Punjab to sixth place, ahead of Chennai and Rajasthan. Novak Djokovic visited a Bosnian 'pyramid park' on Tuesday to benefit from the site's purported healing powers and miracle cures, 48 hours after his demolition by Rafael Nadal in the French Open final.

The Serbian world number one is known for unorthodox and sometimes controversial new-age spiritual views and practices.

And two days after being swept aside 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 at Roland Garros he made a trip to Visko's Valley of the Pyramids and its 25,000-year-old tunnels beneath whose "energy" is claimed to bring about miracle cures.

Although some hills in the region resemble a pyramid shape, the European Association of Archaeologists debunked the claims as pseudo-science over a decade ago.&nbsp;

"I would invite all athletes to come here to spend time in the tunnels, which are very beneficial for the increase of oxygen in the lungs," he told public TV station FTV.

"It has a direct effect on regeneration, on recovery, which is very important for athletes," he said.

According to local media, visitors to the pyramid park have increased since Djokovic's earlier visit in July after he and his wife contracted Covid-19 following a tennis tournament Djokovic organised in the Balkans.&nbsp;

"If there is paradise on earth, then it is here," the Serbian player said at the time.

Gerard Pique called for changes from top to bottom but 65 days have passed since the humilation by Bayern Munich and Barcelona's recovery looks far from complete.&nbsp;

Eight of the team that started the humiliation in Lisbon remain, despite Pique saying nobody should be safe.&nbsp;

The club's president, Josep Maria Bartomeu remains too, despite more than 16,000 members signing a petition to get rid of him.&nbsp;

Luis Suarez was pushed out, eventually to Atletico Madrid, and Ronald Koeman replaced Quique Setien as coach in what were the most significant shifts in a supposedly revolutionary summer.&nbsp;

But Koeman was never going to be an appointment that instantly won over the players while Suarez's exit left Lionel Messi seething, another chance duly taken to criticise Bartomeu and the board.&nbsp;

"It's normal for a player to be a bit sad when a friend of his leaves after the years they had together but it's part of football," said Koeman.

Messi said last season Barcelona were not good enough to win the Champions League and he was proven right, their 8-2 humbling at the hands of Bayern laying bare the chasm in class between the soon-to-be-champions and a team that have only once gone past the quarter-finals since 2015.&nbsp;

And as Barca get set to go again, their latest European tilt beginning against Hungary's Ferencvaros on Tuesday, the worry will be there is little to suggest they are any better this time around.

Their biggest summer signing, Miralem Pjanic, was the result of an economic operation aimed at balancing the books and whether he will be a significant upgrade on Arthur Melo, who went the other way to Juventus, is open to question.&nbsp;

Pedri, signed from Las Palmas in a deal agreed last year, has been one of the bright sparks in Barca's opening month, the attacking midfielder particularly impressive in the 1-0 defeat by Getafe on Saturday.&nbsp;

But he is 17 and, like the 20-year-old Francisco Trincao, is not expected to transform this team now.&nbsp;

Sergino Dest, the latest arrival from Ajax, is 19, although he can expect to feature more regularly to fill the void at right-back.&nbsp;

"The club is trying to change the team," said Koeman. "There are very young players who will get chances."

Barcelona could not afford Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan or Memphis Depay at Lyon, leaving Koeman with a squad that is neither the one he wanted nor planned for.

Yet his job is still somehow to get Barca competing again with Europe's elite.&nbsp;

He will be tasked with making up the gap not only on Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain but also the likes of Manchester City, who spent 160 million euros in the transfer window, and Liverpool, who added Thiago Alcantara, once of Barcelona's youth teams and now arguably the finest midfield playmaker in the world.

And all the while, the uncertain future of Messi lingers, with every disappointment increasing the possibility of him talking to other clubs in January.&nbsp;

Few could criticise Messi's performances since his attempt to leave in the summer but his one penalty scored in Barcelona's four opening matches this season is certainly not peak form for the Argentinian.&nbsp;

The best chance of him staying is arguably if Koeman leaves, given the Dutchman's departure would likely mean there had been a change of president.&nbsp;

Bartomeu is due to face a vote of no confidence in the next few weeks after the successful petition submitted by club members, which means the stability of the club's president, coach and captain are all still up in the air.

Two and a half months on from the loss to Bayern, a new Champions League offers Barcelona hope but few guarantees.

After suffering a potential season-ending blow to Virgil Van Dijk, Liverpool are now sweating on the fitness of Joel Matip after the Reds defender was spotted near Liverpool’s local hospital after the Merseyside Derby against Everton.

While Van Dijk has suffered a massive injury, which could ultimately rule out of the remainder of Premier League 2020-21 season, Matip is said to have picked up a minor knock.&nbsp;

Notably, Van Dijk is out for several months as he will require surgery on the ACL injury he suffered in the derby against Everton. Whereas, Matip underwent a scan with no major issue detected.&nbsp;

With not many centre backs available fully fit, manager Jurgen Klopp must decide whether to risk Matip against Ajax in their UEFA Champions League clash. If Matip misses out, then Fabinho is likely to drop to centre-back alongside Joe Gomez. Or else, Liverpool could look to youngsters Nathaniel Phillips, Rhys Williams, Sepp van den Berg and Billy Koumetio, who have all been in and around Liverpool’s first team set-up.

Both CSK and RR have quality players in their side and would head into the match feeling confident about clinching the crucial two points.

IPL 2020, CSK vs RR Preview: Battle to stay alive in the playoff race

LIVERPOOL, England — Virgil van Dijk walked gingerly around the side of the field, ruefully shaking his head, muttering under his breath. He stopped to offer Jürgen Klopp a grimace and then trudged on, out of Goodison Park. That will be the last Liverpool, and the Premier League, sees of the Dutchman for quite some time.

How long, precisely, is not yet known. On Sunday, a consultant confirmed what both the player and his coach feared in that brief pause in the Merseyside derby: Van Dijk has damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. It is too early to assess, precisely, the extent of the damage, but not too early to know that van Dijk needs surgery.

Only after that happens will Liverpool be able to put a time frame on van Dijk’s rehabilitation and recovery. The best case is that he can emulate Antonio Rüdiger, the German defender who sustained a similar injury in June 2016 and was playing again by October of that year. Ilkay Gundogan, by contrast, required twice as long to return. He is not the worst-case scenario.

Either way, Liverpool must now undertake a sizable portion of its Premier League title defense without the central pillar of its back line, a player who had played 74 consecutive league games and who had barely missed a minute of domestic competition in the 2 1/2 years since arriving at Anfield.

Certain injuries have ramifications that stretch beyond the pain and despair felt by the player who has suffered them; they have the capacity to change the course of the season.

Tomas Rosicky, the former Arsenal midfielder, has argued that his team might have won the Premier League in 2008 had Eduardo, its Croatian-Brazilian striker, not sustained a career-threatening injury in a game at Birmingham. And a line might be drawn between Roy Keane’s absence in 1998 and Manchester United’s collapse in the Premier League title race. Inter Milan might not have had to wait so long between Serie A crowns at the end of the last century had Ronaldo, the Brazilian striker widely regarded as the finest player in the world at the time, not torn the tendons in his knee late in 1999.

The same is not always true, of course: Arsenal (again) lost Robert Pires to injury in 2002 as it chased a league and cup double, and went on to win both anyway. Five games into this season, then, Liverpool should not yet be written off. But in this case it is difficult to see how the context of the injury does not exacerbate the consequences.

It is possible to see, in what happened to van Dijk, a glimmer of almost every aspect of soccer in 2020. The incident that caused it felt distinctly au courant: the Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, has spent the last couple of years gaining a reputation for a tendency to act first and think later, one that has led to spiraling calls for him to lose his place on England’s national team.

More apt still is the fact that the severity of van Dijk’s knee injury did not seem to be the main source of controversy in its immediate aftermath. Instead, the focus was on why Pickford escaped any punishment for what appeared to be an obvious red-card offense.

The theory emerged that Michael Oliver, the on-field referee, and David Coote, his colleague in the video bureau, could not punish Pickford for an incident that happened when van Dijk was offside. After 130 years of organized, codified soccer in England, a loophole seemed to have appeared in which, once the ball was no longer in play, everyone had carte blanche to do what they liked.

That was later amended: Pickford would have been punished had he been guilty of serious foul play, but (rightly or wrongly) in the eyes of Oliver and Coote, that did not apply.

It is worth pausing, though, to consider that this is where the introduction of video assistant referees, and the subsequent rewriting of the game’s regulations to keep up with the technology, has brought us: the idea that perhaps there is a glaring gray area in the rules that has gone unnoticed in the last century is no longer especially unthinkable. All of a sudden, nobody really knows where they stand anymore.

The fact that Liverpool, after the game, wrote to the Premier League asking for an explanation as to why Pickford was not reprimanded — as well as requesting conclusive proof of the offside decision that had denied Klopp’s team a late-winning goal — has the air of sour grapes. But there will be few clubs that have not felt aggrieved by some VAR decision they do not fully understand over the last season or so.

It might be helpful, then, for more than just Klopp’s burning sense of injustice, for the Premier League and its officials to consider why this keeps happening, and to wonder if, perhaps, the rules of the game are fundamentally undermined if those playing and watching it do not believe them to be just. Soccer is policed by consent, after all, and that consent is thinning and waning.

More immediately, though, is what van Dijk’s absence means for Liverpool. Losing a player of his stature would be damaging in any season, in any situation, but to do so in this campaign is particularly troubling.

In the 75 days between now and Jan. 1, the soonest available date Liverpool can acquire a replacement or reinforcement, Klopp’s team must play 17 games in the Premier League and the Champions League. (Its schedule would have been even heavier had it not been eliminated from the League Cup by Arsenal.) That is about once every four days.

And it must do so with only two fit, senior, specialist central defenders: Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, both of whom have vaguely checkered injury histories themselves. The next alternative, Fabinho, is a central midfielder by trade, anointed an emergency center back by Klopp partly through choice — he prefers working with a small squad — and partly out of necessity: His spending power this summer was limited because of the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and he determined that the money was better spent elsewhere.

In a season so compact and condensed, injuries are even more likely than usual to be the determining factor in who succeeds and who does not. The teams that triumph — across Europe — this season will not only have to excel, they will have to endure, too. Titles may well go to the last team standing. It may be that when it is all over, we come to see that moment, as van Dijk trudged round the field at Goodison Park, as the one in which Liverpool fell.

LIVERPOOL, England — Virgil van Dijk walked gingerly around the side of the field, ruefully shaking his head, muttering under his breath. He stopped to offer Jürgen Klopp a grimace and then trudged on, out of Goodison Park.

Liverpool’s Van Dijk needs surgery, a cruel twist in a tough year

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard feels that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has taken over the mantle from Sri Lankan Lasith Malinga to become the lynchpin of the four-time IPL champions' bowling attack.

After picking up the crucial wickets of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Nicholas Pooran in the stipulated 20 overs, Bumrah (3/24) bowled an excellent Super Over against Kings XI Punjab, conceding just five runs.

However, it was not enough as Mohammad Shami bowled an equally impressive over to lead the match to a second Super Over in which KXIP snatched a win at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

"He's a world-class cricketer. He has been number one in a couple of formats for a long period of time. He has learned and has grown leaps and bounds for us at Mumbai Indians...We have comfort in him," Pollard said at the post-match press conference.

"A couple of years ago, we had a fit and fair Lasith Malinga and he (Bumrah) has taken over that mantle now," he added.
Malinga, the highest wicket-taker in the IPL, opted out this year citing personal reasons.
Chasing five runs in the first Super Over, skipper Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock failed to take MI across the finish line.

In the second Super Over, Pollard and Hardik Pandya helped the defending champions score 11 runs.

"Obviously there are decision-makers to make the decision, you know we can look at those things and say that's where we lost the game but we played a very good game of cricket. We batted well," said Pollard.

Mumbai have lost two games via Super Overs. They were defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier in the tournament.
Their five-match winning streak broken by KXIP, the defending champions are placed second with 12 points.

"Just a matter of improvement, each and every time we step on the cricket field it is to improve and to do better. We will look back and analyse the game and we will come up with a better plan and hopefully get two points in the next game," said the all-rounder.
KXIP pacer Chris Jordan, who bowled the second Super Over for his team, was delighted to be on the winning side.

"I feel like the way we have played a lot of our games this season, they could have been very easily ended with us on the winning side," Jordan said during the post-match press conference.

"Unfortunately, that was not the case. I think from the last two games, specially the kind of team spirit and camaraderie we have shown as an entire team and entire franchise has been second to none.

"Just glad that we have a little bit of luck going our way now but we can't rest on that," he added.

Jordon conceded 11 runs of the second Super Over. Chris Gayle then hit the first ball bowled by Trent Boult for a six before opener Mayank Agarwal cracked successive fours as KXIP notched up an incredible win to keep their IPL play-off hopes alive.

The presence of the big-hitting Gayle in the playing XI has also inspired the team.

"You can see the impact the legend himself, Gayle, made in the last two games. Hitting a fifty after not playing for a while and then finish off the game in the Super Over for us. It is great to have, what I considered to be a great of the game, in our team. His energy is unbelievable," Jordan said.

KXIP have got the better of MI and RCB in their last two games, however, KL Rahul and his men have been guilty of making their run chases too close and the pacer hopes his side can close in matches quicker.

"If we want to take it to the next level, we have got to keep doing simple things and hopefully finish off games a bit quick as well," Jordan added.
