'Spider-Man' may exit Marvel Universe due to a stand-off between Sony and Disney 

<p>Sony Interactive Entertainment on Monday announced a deal to buy Insomniac Games, the studio behind hot-selling 'Spider-Man'&nbsp;and 'Ratchet &amp; Clank'&nbsp;video games.</p>

<p>Sony did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition that will add Insomniac to its stable of studios making games exclusively for the Japanese consumer electronics giant's PlayStation consoles.</p>

<p>"Insomniac Games is one of the most highly-acclaimed development studios in the industry and their legacy of best-in-class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled," Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios chief Shawn Layden said in a statement.</p>

<p>The take-over will need regulatory approval.</p>

<p>California-based Insomniac was founded some 25 years ago and fielded successful video games including "Ratchet &amp; Clank," "Spyro the Dragon," and "Resistance."</p>

<p>The studio worked with Sony interactive and Marvel Games on "Spider-Man," which has sold more than 13.2 million copies worldwide, according to Sony.</p>

<p>"We've enjoyed a special relationship with PlayStation practically since our inception," Insomniac founder and chief executive Ted Price said.</p>

<p>"Our partnership amplifies our potential, and 'Spider-Man' was a testament to this."</p>

<p>Sony is out to add Insomniac to its stable of studios as it prepares a new generation PlayStation.</p>

<p>In June, US technology veteran Microsoft gave the world the first glimpse at a powerful next-generation Xbox that it aims to release late next year.</p>

<p>The commitment to consoles by longtime rivals in the market comes with the rise of video games hosted as subscription services streamed Netflix-style from data centres in the internet cloud.</p>

<p>The new gaming platforms disrupt the industry by giving users the ability to avoid consoles and game software on disc or download.</p>

<p>Sony launched its PlayStation Now game service five years ago, allowing titles to be streamed to its current-generation consoles or Windows-powered computers.</p>

'Spider-Man: Far From Home' crushes 'Crawl,' 'Stuber' at the US box office

<p>Disney has courted a new controversy after it forbid a British father from putting Spider-Man, his kid’s favourite character on his grave. The man identified as Lloyd Jones lost his four-year-old son to a rare disease.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As cited by a report in Mirror, Disney permissions department wrote in a response to Lloyd Jones: “We follow a policy that began with Walt Disney himself that does not permit the use of characters on headstones, cemetery or other memorial markers or funeral urns.”</p>

<p>Soon after the news spread, people took to Twitter to sign a petition asking Disney to rethink its position on the same. This was after Lloyd’s old friend launched an online petition calling on Disney to reverse the ban, and the motion gathered more than 5,500 signatures on its first day.</p>

<p>Ollie Jones, the 4-year-old son of Lloyd, died of leukodystrophy in December. He was reportedly a huge Marvel fan and even spent his last holiday at Disneyland together with his beloved superheroes.&nbsp;</p>

As cited by a report in Mirror, Disney permissions department wrote in a response to Lloyd Jones: “We follow a policy that began with Walt Disney himself that does not permit the use of characters on headstones, cemetery or other memorial markers or funeral urns.” Soon after the news spread, people took to Twitter to sign a petition asking Disney to rethink its position on the same. This was after Lloyd’s old friend launched an online petition calling on Disney to reverse the ban, and the motion gathered more than 5,500 signatures on its first day. Ollie Jones, the 4-year-old son of Lloyd, died of leukodystrophy in December. He was reportedly a huge Marvel fan and even spent his last holiday at Disneyland together with his beloved superheroes. <p>The former manager of Stan Lee has been charged with elder abuse against the late comic book legend, a Los Angeles court official said on Monday.</p>

<p>Keya Morgan was charged on Friday with five counts of elder abuse, including false imprisonment, fraud and forgery stemming from an incident last summer when Lee was 95 years old, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Superior Court public information office told Los Angeles City News Service.</p>

<p>The spokeswoman added that a warrant for Morgan`s arrest had been issued.</p>

<p>Morgan, a New York-based memorabilia collector who became involved with Lee in 2017, was served with a restraining order last year after Lee`s family accused him of elder abuse.</p>

<p>The Los Angeles District Attorney`s office on Monday said it was unable to provide any information. An attorney for Morgan could not be located but last year Morgan denied allegations of abuse.</p>

<p>Lee, the co-creator of 'Spider-Man,' 'Iron Man,' 'The Hulk' and dozens of other Marvel superheroes, died in November 2018 at the age of 95.</p>

<p>In court documents last year, Morgan was accused of seizing control of Lee`s Hollywood Hills home and hiring security guards with orders to keep away relatives and associates before moving the comic book creator to an unfamiliar condominium.</p>
