Australia was really feeling the heat at the ODI World Cup as the record five-time champions fell to their second straight defeat at the showpiece event. South Africa handed their Rivals a crushing 134-run defeat in Lucknow.

ICC World Cup 2023: South Africa beat Australia by 134 runs in Lucknow

South Africa had a brilliant start to their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, having won their first two matches in the tournament. Their second win came against Australia in Lucknow on October 12 as they beat the Aussies by 134 runs. Protea bowler Kagiso Rabada was the wreaker-in-chief, taking 3/33 in his eight overs.

Among the three dismissals by Rabada, the ball he bowled to Josh Inglis was the best one as the batter was left dumbfounded on an unplayable delivery that rattled his stumps. Australia were three down already when Rabada came on to bowl the 12th over of the Kangaroo chase and delivered a peach first up to leave Inglis flummoxed. The batter tried to defend the ball with a straight bat but the ball whizzed past and hit the stumps. Have a look at the video below:

ODI World Cup 2023: UNPLAYABLE! Kagiso Rabada cleans up Josh Inglis with a PEACH in SA vs Australia - WATCH

Australia slumped to their second defeat in a row in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 as they lost against South Africa by 134 runs on October 12 in Lucknow. This is their biggest loss in terms of runs in the ODI World Cups - a tournament which they have won five times - the most by any team.

Chasing 312, Australia folded out for 177 and skipper Pat Cummins acknowledged that they have 'got to try and find a way in all conditions.'

"I think if we want to be challenging, you [have] got to try and find a way in all conditions, and that's for the bowlers try and take wickets and for the batters try and score runs," Cummins told the broadcaster after the loss.

ODI World Cup 2023: 'We're trying,' says Australia skipper Pat Cummins after horror loss against South Africa

South Africa batsman Quinton de Kock predicted that Thursday's high-profile World Cup clash with old rivals Australia will be decided by a battle of "big egos".

De Kock, who will quit international cricket at the end of this tournament, has enjoyed being part of a Proteas side who have had the upper hand in recent years.

Since 2016, South Africa have won 15 of their 20 meetings with Australia in One-Day Internationals.

"The Australians and us have always had a great history, a good competitive background," said 30-year-old De Kock on Wednesday.

"Both teams are going to come out fighting tomorrow, and whoever makes the right choices under pressure will be the stronger team at the end of the day."

He added: "Both teams are strong teams, both got big egos, both want to win, want to beat each other."

South Africa got off to a scintillating start at this World Cup, piling up a tournament record 428 in a 102-run win over Sri Lanka in New Delhi.

De Kock cracked his 18th ODI century in that match but it was his first at a World Cup. Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen also hit centuries.

"I think I've been wanting a 100 for a while. Just for my personal self, it's been a while," said De Kock whose last ton came against India in Cape Town in January 2022.

"Just to tick it off in a World Cup and get the campaign started was a big thing for the guys' confidence."

After the World Cup ends, De Kock will officially remain available for T20 internationals but only when there isn't a clash with more lucrative franchise opportunities.

He will leave behind a legacy of almost 12,000 international runs across the three formats, and 25 centuries. He has scored hundreds in Tests, ODIs and T20 cricket.

However, De Kock insists he will have no regrets about closing the book on his 11-year South Africa career.

"I'm sure a lot of guys love the ODI format. I have been doing it for a couple of years now, so I find it quite tiring," he explained.

"But I'm sure there's still a lot of guys coming through the ranks, guys still at school, they still would love to play this format and I highly recommend that they find a way to keep it going."

For the moment, an elusive World Cup title remains De Kock's priority for a country who have fallen at the semi-finals on four occasions.

Also WATCH - Virat Kohli and Naveen ul Haq close IPL fight with hug during India vs Afghanistan "The Australians and us have always had a great history, a good competitive background," said 30-year-old De Kock on Wednesday. "Both teams are going to come out fighting tomorrow, and whoever makes the right choices under pressure will be the stronger team at the end of the day." He added: "Both teams are strong teams, both got big egos, both want to win, want to beat each other." South Africa got off to a scintillating start at this World Cup, piling up a tournament record 428 in a 102-run win over Sri Lanka in New Delhi. "Just to tick it off in a World Cup and get the campaign started was a big thing for the guys' confidence." After the World Cup ends, De Kock will officially remain available for T20 internationals but only when there isn't a clash with more lucrative franchise opportunities. "But I'm sure there's still a lot of guys coming through the ranks, guys still at school, they still would love to play this format and I highly recommend that they find a way to keep it going." For the moment, an elusive World Cup title remains De Kock's priority for a country who have fallen at the semi-finals on four occasions.
South Africa's World Cup title defence suffered a major blow on Thursday when hooker Malcolm Marx was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a long-term knee injury as coach Jacques Nienaber delayed naming a replacement in the squad.
The pair were not deemed fit enough when the World Cup squad was announced on Aug. 8 but both played a major role in the team's 2019 triumph. Pollard, whose accuracy off the kicking tee has been missed, has been in training with his English club Leicester Tigers in recent weeks.

"We’ll assess our needs for the rest of the tournament and confirm who we are calling up as an additional player later this week," Nienaber said in a statement from South African Rugby.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said Sunday (Sept. 3) that his nation didn’t send weapons to Russia, citing the results of an independent inquiry led by a retired judge.

Earlier in May, the US ambassador to South Africa Reuben Brigety set the cat among the pigeons by claiming that a Russian cargo ship had docked near Cape Town in December 2022 and loaded weapons to be taken back home.

"No permit was issued for the export of arms and no arms were exported," he said, adding that the baseless accusations also had a damaging impact on the South African economy.
