Royal Challengers Bangalore Women's (RCB-W) Sophie Devine played an inning to remember as she bulldozed her way to a 36-ball 99 against Gujarat Giants Women (GG-W) to help RCB win their second match on the trot in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023.

Thanks to Devine's onslaught, RCB chased down a decent total of 189 runs in mere 15.3 overs and eights wickets left. Although, Sophie got out one short of what would have been the first WPL century, her innings was enough for the entire RCB dugout to bow to her.

In a video making rounds on twitter, RCB players and staff can be seen giving standing ovation to Devine and bowing down to her as she walks back after wreaking havoc on the Giants. Have a look at the video here:

While Mandhana departed in the 10th over, it was Ellyse Perry who helped Devine take RCB home. There was no real contribution from the bowlers for Gujarat as they were left stranded and clueless in the must-win match.

Earlier, top knocks from opener Laura Wolvaardt and all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner helped Gujarat Giants reach a total of 188/4 in the 20 overs. Electing to bat first, Gujarat Giants did not have a very good start as they lost opener Sophia Dunkley for 16 off 10 balls after a Sophie Devine delivery crashed into her leg stump. GG was 27/1 in 2.4 overs. Following this, the pair of Laura Wolvaardt and Sabbhineni Meghana started to rebuild the innings.

Franchise cricket has raised the profile of women`s cricket and a full-fledged Indian Premier League (IPL) is the "next step" for its growth, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine said.

The Indian cricket board currently hosts a short three-team women`s competition along with the lucrative men`s IPL which will welcome two new franchises and become a 10-team affair next year. Devine cited the success of the Women`s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia and its impact to make her point.

"The success of the WBBL in Australia has been enormous in raising the profile, and the standard of cricket as well has certainly improved," Devine said on Monday at an event to mark the beginning of live cricket streaming on Amazon Prime Video from Jan. 1.

"I`d love to see a woman`s IPL kick off. I think it`s certainly the next step in growing the game globally for the women side of things.

"So fingers crossed and in the next few years, there might be something on the cards," the 32-year-old said.

"Any franchise opportunities supporting the international game is the key for the game growing and India is the next big step in my opinion after the success of the WBBL and The Hundred competition in England," Bates said.

“I’m probably a big fan of looking at a smaller ball, but keeping the pitch the same size, where I think pacers are going to be able to bowl quicker, spinners are going be able to turn the ball more,” the all-rounder added.
