Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Moscow is prepared to make compromises to help end the conflict in Ukraine, but stressed that Kyiv must also be willing to make concessions. The remarks come amid renewed diplomatic efforts and growing international calls for a negotiated settlement to the war.

Putin's statement is likely to fuel fresh debate over the prospects for peace, the conditions for any future agreement, and whether Russia and Ukraine can bridge deep differences after years of conflict.

Putin: Moscow Ready For Compromises, Ukraine Must Do The Same

Russia has launched a renewed wave of missile strikes across Ukraine, pushing the conflict to a critical stage, according to reports. NATO officials visiting Kyiv described Moscow as “increasingly desperate” amid escalating battlefield pressures. The attacks have intensified concerns over civilian safety and infrastructure damage as the war continues with no clear end in sight.

Ukraine is reportedly ramping up its drone warfare capabilities, with Kyiv preparing large-scale drone swarms and increasing launch rates to as many as 100 drones per night. The move comes as both Ukraine and Russia continue to rely heavily on unmanned systems to strike military targets, infrastructure, and logistics hubs. The growing use of drone swarms highlights the evolving nature of the Russia-Ukraine war, where technology and mass-produced aerial systems are playing an increasingly decisive role on the battlefield.

Romanian authorities say a drone linked to Russia struck a building near the country’s border with Ukraine.
The incident comes amid continued Russian drone attacks targeting Ukrainian infrastructure near NATO territory.

Russian Drone Slams Into Romanian Apartment; NATO Ally Stunned

Romania accused Russia of a “serious and irresponsible escalation” after a drone hit an apartment building in Romania early Friday (May 29), resulting in a fire and wounding two people. Videos of the incident, which happened in the city of Galati, surfaced on social media showing an explosion the moment the drone struck the building. As the drones were detected in Romanian airspace, two F-16 fighter jets were deployed. This marks the latest incident of drone incursions in a NATO-member country during Russian attacks on Ukraine.“This incident represents a serious and irresponsible escalation on the part of the Russian Federation,” Romanian foreign ministry said in a statement, adding Bucharest had informed the NATO secretary general and “requested measures to accelerate the transfer of anti-drone capabilities to Romania”.

Last year in September, the country reported a similar incident. Like the response to the latest breach, two F-16 fighter jets scrambled after the drones were detected at that time as well. In the same month, Poland reported that it shot down a Russian drone in its airspace. In recent months, several Russian drones have been spotted in NATO member states bordering the two warring countries, including Romania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland.

Russian authorities have increasingly called on businesses to help fund defensive measures as Ukraine’s long-range drone attacks continue to grow in both scale and sophistication. On Tuesday, Alexander Shokhin, head of Russia’s most influential business lobby, told President Vladimir Putin that companies are prepared to finance the purchase of heavier weapons and electronic systems to shield their infrastructure from drone strikes. What triggered this? This comes as Ukraine struck the central bank's office in Sevastopol in Crimea with a missile on Wednesday. According to local governor Mikhail Razvozhaev, the weapon used in the attack was a British-made Storm Shadow missile, which set the building on fire. This, as per Reuters, was the first attack on a major central bank office since the beginning of the war. The legislation says its purpose is to protect Bank of Russia facilities, including those located in the four eastern Ukrainian regions that Moscow claims to have annexed, even though it does not fully control those territories. Since Russia launched its military operation against Ukraine in February 2022, Kyiv has been regularly striking Russian sites with drones, particularly aiming for energy infrastructure.

As Ukraine intensifies drone strikes deep inside Russia, Moscow has approved a bizarre new measure allowing trained bank employees to shoot down Ukrainian drones themselves. The proposed law would also force banks to install electronic jamming systems.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has written to US President Donald Trump highlighting Ukraine’s urgent shortage of air defence systems.
