His estranged daughter (Ryan Simpkins) wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions, or if there’s something more sinister at play.

The film also stars Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg and David Hyde Pierce.

This is Russell Crowe’s second film in the exorcism subgenre. The last time he entertained the idea was Sony’s The Pope’s Exorcist. The film had a decent opening at theatres and earned some $77 million worldwide.

Born in 1829 in Ascoli Piceno, Marche, the son of Augestine and Annunziata born in Parma. Luigi had been working in Argentina, took a boat to India, was shipwrecked, and ended up in Cape Town. While there he met and married Mary Ann Curtain and they migrated to NZ. Fascinating," he further wrote.

“Also something else that has recently come to light on my father’s mother’s side, via John (Jock) Fraser (arrived in NZ in 1841) we directly connect back to Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat. Look him up. He’s quite the character. The Old Fox they used to call him.

“Seems his machiavellian ways caught up to him at the age of 80, and he has a claim to infamy as the last man to have the head chopped off his living body in the Tower of London.

“His death even coined a phrase. Apparently, they set up temporary stands for the gentry to watch him die. One of these stands collapsed which resulted in the death of nine onlookers. Being told this just before he was put to death made him laugh. He was still laughing when the blade struck his neck, thereby ‘laughing his head off’. Fascinating," he added.

The shoot of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel is currently underway in Morocco near the Sahara Desert and on Friday, June 7, a major accident took place on the set during the shooting of the stunt sequence. Several crew members on the set were injured in the accident.&nbsp;

The Paramount spokesperson confirmed the incident on Friday, revealing that the injuries were ''non-life-threatening'' and&nbsp;all those who were impacted immediately received the necessary care.

But if all that happened to him before Spain was bad enough, he is now going to be possessed by a particularly powerful demon. The construction works on the site inadvertently unearth the said entity, which speaks through Henry and demands the presence of "the priest."

The film follows the Vatican-stamped exorcist directed by Papal authority to deal with the case as he investigates the possession of the boy and simultaneously tries to uncover a sinister truth that the Vatican has kept hidden for centuries.&nbsp;

The Pope's Exorcist has all the ingredients of a classic horror film — an old, spooky, and sprawling building, a possessed child, and of course, Russell Crowe in a priest's collar. But in the end, The Pope's Exorcist turns out to be a run-of-the-mill exorcism flick. Not only does it have nothing new to say about the genre, but it also does not justify the 'Exorcist' in the title.&nbsp;

The reason is, there are quite a few exorcism scenes here as you can expect, but none of them are very compelling, though there are a couple of half-hearted attempts to recreate, or perhaps pay homage to, a few scenes from that queen of exorcism movies, 1973's The Exorcist. But even with half a century of advancement in filmmaking and visual effects, The Pope's Exorcist ends up being a pale shadow of that William Friedkin film.

2014's Deliver Us from Evil came to my mind while watching this movie, which was an otherwise mediocre horror thriller but did serve an absolutely riveting exorcism sequence.

With the exception of Amorth, the characters in The Pope's Exorcist are thinly sketched, with little depth or nuance, making it hard to empathise with their plight or care about their fates. The atmosphere, with drab grey

However, amidst all of this mediocrity, there is one shining beacon of excellence, and that is Russell Crowe's performance as Father Gabriele Amorth. Crowe plays the role with casual good humour, and at the same time brings a sense of gravitas and intensity in a way only Crowe can. He is also, I expect, refreshingly different from most men of faith. Never preachy, possesses a gallows sense of humour ("Sugar is the work of devil," he says when offered some for his espresso shot), and is unfailingly kind. He is thus nothing like the real Amorth, who among other things said that yoga is satanic due to its association with the practice of Hinduism and belief in reincarnation, and that "all eastern religions are based on a false belief" and lead to evil "like Harry Potter."

But even Crowe is unable to save this movie. What could have been an intriguing exploration of faith, evil, and the shadowy workings of the Vatican ends up being a forgettable, by-the-numbers horror picture.

The demon seems to have a score to settle. The film is based on Amorth's memoir An Exorcist Tells His Story, and yes Amorth, an Italian Catholic priest and exorcist, actually existed. he claimed to have performed 160,000 exorcisms.

The film looks interesting, but a lot like countless horror films based on exorcism, starting from the king of such movies — The Exorcist — itself. And Avery does seem to have been inspired by that iconic film in terms of the horror elements and how demon possession transpires. Crowe's presence alone justifies the ticket price, we hazard. And knowing Avery's work in Overlord, he will instill his own brand of humour in the movie to lighten the dark and gloom in the movie a little.

"We have a lot of stairs to climb, but the first steps are encouraging," she said. 
 
Solstice president and CEO Mark Gill repeated a mantra that many in the movie business are looking to during the global heath crisis: "Slow and steady wins the race." 
 
Given the sparse amount of movie theaters currently in operation and the potential that audiences could still feel uneasy being indoors (where the virus is said to spread faster), film distributors aren`t expecting their films to have splashy opening weekends. Instead, they are counting on any given film to have a lengthier run on the big screen than it might normally have. 
 
"We are pleased and relieved to see moviegoers took the first step to return to theaters this weekend," Gill said. "As we have seen around the world -- and the light release schedule in the coming month suggests -- the movie will have a long run." 
 
Elsewhere, "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run" collected another $550,000 from 326 locations in Canada, bringing its total haul to $2 million. The animated adventure based on the Nickelodeon cartoon isn`t playing in U.S. theaters. It is expected to launch on premium video-on-demand next year before landing on the streaming service CBS All Access.
