Then, he stole a sailboat on Lake Champlain. The Coast Guard tried to stop him, but till then, the sailboat foundered at the base of the lakeside cliffs. A week later, he made his way to Franklin and Lamoille counties. Surveillance footage shows him driving a stolen dump truck on Wednesday and a John Deere tractor. On Thursday, when Vermont police again sighted him on a kayak, he jumped into the river and swam to the southern shore. There, the state troopers and game wardens arrested him. Later, they took him to the hospital for an examination of his injuries, which he sustained while being on the run, police said. "This suspect was an individual that displayed a propensity for violence and it certainly put the community, the public in a sense of unease," said Vermont State Police Sgt. Michael Filipek. The reporter and a cameraperson were filming a story on robberies in the neighbourhood when three masked men brandishing firearms robbed them. The robbers took the news crew's television camera and other personal items.

Talking to Chicago Tribune, Luis Godinez, vice president of news at Univision Chicago, said: "They were approached with guns and robbed. Mainly it was personal items, and they took a camera".

As per Godinez, the news crew were covering a story about robberies in the neighbourhood. The story was supposed to air early on the morning news. However, the footage they had shot on robberies in West Town was also stolen along with the camera, and it never made it on-air.

<h2>What the police said</h2>

Chicago police said that the victims, 28-year-old man and 42-year-old man were outside when three masked men drove up to them in a grey sedan and a black SUV. After robbing the news crew, the robbers fled in their vehicles.

Police are yet to arrest anyone over the robbery. No injuries were reported.

<h2>Second TV crew robbery in a month</h2>

As per news agency AP, this was the second such robbery this month. Previously, on August 8th, a WLS-TV photographer was assaulted and robbed while covering a weekday afternoon news conference on Chicago's West Side.

National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians Local 41, which represents Chicago-based TV photographers, has issued a warning.&nbsp;

Raza Siddiqui, president of the union local, "Our news photographers and reporters provide a very important public service in keeping our community informed. We are committed to making sure that their safety comes first." He also told Chicago Sun-Times that some union affiliated news stations are planning to take additional safety steps like assigning security to some TV crews.

The store in question was of the luxury jewellery and watch brand Piaget located in central Paris.&nbsp;

<h2>What do we know so far?</h2>

According to initial reports, the incident took place at 1:00 pm (local time) and the robbery involved at least three people, and one of them was said to be armed. The alleged criminals took off with their bounty which is reportedly estimated at between $11 million and $16.5 million.&nbsp;

The report by AFP, citing a police source, said no one was hurt. According to reports, the supposedly armed gang allegedly kept the staff members at gunpoint throughout the ordeal.&nbsp;

The heist was carried out by “two men in suits and a woman in a dress”, according to a report by the British newspaper, Daily Express.&nbsp;

Terrified customers were forced to the ground while the gang ordered staff to direct them to the store’s most expensive displays, where they grabbed as many goods as they could before escaping on motorbikes, reported The Daily Mail, citing sources. &nbsp;

The Paris prosecutor’s office said that they have launched an investigation into the incident on the charges of “armed robbery by an organising gang” and “kidnapping”. Images from the site show the store, which is also near the famous Place Vendome, surrounded by the police.&nbsp;

Piaget, founded in Switzerland, makes luxury watches and high-end jewellery, the prices of which can be as much as tens of thousands of dollars.&nbsp;

Dramatic footage shows robbers smashing windows of jewellery store in Mexico City. Watch!

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the gunpoint robbery of a delivery agent and his associate inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel here, police said on Tuesday.

The accused robbed them of about&nbsp;₹2 lakh&nbsp;on Saturday when they were on their way in a taxi to Gurugram to deliver the money.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused carried out recces on Thursday and Friday, and were on the lookout. On Saturday, they executed the robbery, a senior police officer said.

CCTV camera footage received by the Delhi Police showed four motorcycle-borne men intercepted the car and robbed the delivery agent of Omiya Enterprises, Chandni Chowk, and his associate.

The police managed to find the robbers after analysing footage from nearly 200 CCTV cameras installed in the area. The two accused,&nbsp;Dev Verma and Harsh Rajput,&nbsp;reportedly aimed to join gangster Neeraj Bawana’s gang and were&nbsp;influenced by his YouTube videos.

Deputy Commissioner Of Police (DCP) of Shahdara, Rohit Meena, said, “Both the robbers had consumed a lot of alcohol at the time of the incident. After examining the CCTV footage, it was found that these robbers had created panic in many areas. We have recovered the pistol.”&nbsp;

Furthermore, one of the accused, Rajput, already had two cases of snatching registered against him.&nbsp;

The pectoral cross was in a case in the wall of St. Oswald's church in Traunstein, in the state of Bavaria, where the late Benedict spent his adolescent years.

Thieves broke the case and took the cross, which the former pope had bequeathed to the parish, between 11:45 am (0945 GMT) and 5:00 pm (1500 GMT) on Monday.

"For the Catholic Church, the value of this sacred object cannot be quantified," Bavarian police said in a statement.&nbsp;

The perpetrators, whose identities are unknown, also broke into the cash register of a magazine stand and stole the money inside, the police said.&nbsp;

Police officials are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around the church on Monday to share the information.&nbsp;

Benedict, who in 2013 became the first pontiff in six centuries to step down as head of the Catholic Church, died on&nbsp;31 December, 2022,&nbsp;aged 95 after a long period of declining health.

A Canadian-based multinational apparel company— Lululemon— is facing massive criticism after it fired two of its female employees for trying to stop the robbers from stealing the products.

The incident occurred last month in Georgia’s Atlanta city in which three masked men blatantly robbed a Lululemon store located at Peachtree Corners.

They were recorded stealing Lululemon’s high-priced athletic wear from tables and displays. One of the employees had filmed the incident.

The clip, now viral, shows the robbers—who have reportedly struck the store at least a dozen times prior—momentarily standing in the store doorway and staring at the women before jumping back inside to snatch several more pairs of leggings.

Soon after the robbery, the employees— Jennifer Ferguson and Rachel Rogers—had called the police to report the incident.

However, the company fired them over a Zoom call for allegedly breaking the company’s policy by calling the cops.

"We didn't really feel very protected or know what else to do," Rogers told local TV station 11Alive on May 30.

"We are not supposed to get in the way," Ferguson told the outlet.

"You kind of clear path for whatever they're going to do. And then, after it's over, you scan a QR code. And that's that. We've been told not to put it in any notes, because that might scare other people. We're not supposed to call the police, not really supposed to talk about it."

They also did not receive severance pay, they claimed.

<h2>CEO's reaction&nbsp;</h2>

However, Lululemon CEO Calvin McDonald defended the company in Friday’s interview to CNBC.

“Once a robbery occurs, workers are instructed to scan a QR code. And that’s that. We’ve been told not to put it in any notes, because that might scare other people. We’re not supposed to call the police, not really supposed to talk about it,” he said.

McDonald said that such a policy is in place “because we put the safety of our team, of our guest, front and centre. It’s only merchandise.”

“They’re trained to step back, let the theft occur, know that there’s a technology and there’s cameras and we’re working with law enforcement,” he told CNBC.

McDonald claimed that the two fired female workers — one of whom was an assistant manager — were not fired for reporting the robbery to the cops, rather because they didn’t abide by company policy, which says employees shouldn’t engage with thieves.

"I was up and down every few hours, as you are with a two-week-old, and I was actually awake when the car was taken," she added.&nbsp;

Police officers caught up with her just 2 miles away from the bank as she left after the robbery.

The officer said that the brothers had been hatching some sort of “act of extreme violence” since 2019 and initially wanted the shootout to happen in mid-2023.

But their desire to move out of the house they shared with their mother led them to move up their plan.

“The suspects concluded that they could not move their arsenal of weapons to a new location without attracting attention, and thus electing the bank location at random,” Bérubé was quoted as saying.

On Tuesday morning, after the twins left the bank, members of the Greater Victoria emergency response team, who were in the vicinity in an unrelated matter, spotted them and decided to help other officers catch the culprit.

During the gunfight, six officers were injured. An earlier report said police fired as many as 100 rounds at the suspects, killing them both.

A rare theft scene has gone viral in India where a group of robbers posing as telecom company employees uprooted a 29-foot-long mobile tower in Patna's Sabzibagh and took off. The incident has left cops red-faced and local residents in worry, TOI reported.&nbsp;

It came to the limelight after technicians of the telecom company, while conducting a survey of mobile towers and 5G services found their network and its equipment missing.&nbsp;

The tower worth thousands of dollars was installed on the roof of a four-storey house belonging to a man named Shaheen Qayoom.

A case was filed against the unknown group after Mohammad Shahnanawa Anwar, the area&nbsp;manager of GTL told police that a mobile tower is missing. The case was filed under Section 379 of the IPC.&nbsp;

As of now, no clear ground regarding the culprits has yet been established.&nbsp;

The SHO, Sabihul Haque said that the tower was installed in 2006 by Aircel but in 2016 the company sold the tower to GTL.

During the investigation, Qayoom told that a group of men came and dismantled the tower. According to the house owner, he said that the fake technicians said that the tower is experiencing some technical glitch, and a new one will be placed soon.

The investigation is underway.&nbsp;

Similar instances have occurred in India last year when a similar type of group dismantled an entire iron bridge in Rohtas and a train engine in Begusarai.

Members of "Remmo clan," are the suspects in the raid trial.&nbsp;The trial which began in January is set to resume on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The police said that the gang members have been trying to mislead them. They added that they are verifying the names of the criminal. Moreover, a police team rushed to Patna to check their dossier. The police officials said that they are keeping up their efforts to arrest four other members of the gang.&nbsp;

The man with the black face mask then approached Miller who was hiding behind the gold-colored lectern. The man was spotted stuffing the bishop’s jewellery in his pockets. Similarly, another man was seen approaching the Miller-Whitehead wearing the same outfit hanging around him for a short period and then he vanished.

In the video uploaded on Instagram, Miller-Whitehead said that the assailants held a gun to the face of his young daughter while robbing his wife’s jewellery and ripping off his chain. As per the investigators, no one in the family got suffered any harm.&nbsp;

Mayor, Eric Adam spoke with Miller-Whitehead following the heist on Sunday (July 24), as per a hall representative. Surveillance cameras have captured a 12-year-old boy robbing a gas station in the Hartford city&nbsp;of Michigan&nbsp;and firing a warning shot into the ceiling using his grandfather's gun, the Independent has reported&nbsp;quoting police.&nbsp;

The report added that the 12-year-old boy was deemed a public safety risk and has been arrested and placed in the Allegan County Juvenile Center.

The boy allegedly entered the gas station and stood in a queue behind other customers before taking out a&nbsp;9mm handgun from a&nbsp;black bag that he was carrying and pointing it in the direction of the clerk. The gas station's surveillance cameras&nbsp;captured the entirety of the actions involved in the armed robbery.&nbsp;

In the video, the clerk can be heard saying, "Are you serious?" when the gun is pointed, and a brief moment later, the boy is seen firing a gunshot towards the ceiling. The clerk is then seen handing over a bag of money across the counter.

According to the report, a 911 emergency call was made shortly after the boy left the premises, which was promptly responded to by the Hartford Police, who reached the gas station within 90 seconds.&nbsp;

The police reportedly found the boy a few blocks from the gas station behind some building;&nbsp;the&nbsp;report quoted&nbsp;the&nbsp;Hartford Police Chief Tressa Beltran.

The police have confirmed that the gun used in the armed robbery belonged to the boy's grandfather, his legal guardian. The boy stole the gun from his grandfather's safe, and the grandfather claimed that he was not aware that the boy could access his safe, the report quoted the Police.&nbsp;

"Every day, I see something new at this job. I've been a full-time police officer for 38 years. What flabbergasted me is that he showed no emotion," the Independent quoted Hartford Lt Mike Prince.

Video captures 12-year-old boy robbing Michigan gas station, firing gun

Over the weekend, the owners of a New Mexico property were doubly astonished to find an AR-15-wielding burglar in their home, only to have him apologise, offer them money, and depart, embarrassed.

According to a Santa Fe county sheriff's office police report quoted by the Albuquerque Journal, the man slept, showered, dined, and drank beer in the residence on the outskirts of Santa Fe before the owners returned and discovered him.&nbsp;

He was armed with an AR-15 scoped rifle, yet he made no threats or took any of their jewellery or other valuables.

According to the complaint, he instead offered the homeowners $200 as "reimbursement for the window" that he shattered."&nbsp;

According to the complaint, the guy, who is around 6 feet (1.8 metres) tall and in his late 20s, told the owners he was fleeing from someone and that his family had been murdered in east Texas.

His car had broken down west of Santa Fe, he said.

According to the report, the individual was "very humiliated and remorseful about the situation," according to the residents.

The suspect walked along a ditch with his duffel bag and revolver after leaving the house.

They then help themselves to parcels, ditching anything too difficult to sell.

The haul could include anything that moves around the country from or to retailers.

And, the police now say, guns.

Firearms purchased online in the United States cannot legally be shipped to the customer, but can be sent instead to a licensed dealer for pick-up.

Since December 2020, rail operator Union Pacific (UP), whose convoys are being targeted, has seen a 160 percent increase in thefts in Los Angeles County.

"In October 2021 alone, the increase reaches 356 percent compared to October 2020," the operator said in a letter to local authorities seen by AFP.&nbsp;

The phenomenon was accelerated in the run-up to Christmas, as freight volumes rocketed.

According to figures reported by UP, more than 90 containers were vandalized on average each day in Los Angeles County in the last quarter of 2021.

The operator, which manages nearly 280 miles (450 kilometers) of track in Los Angeles County, puts the cost of the damage incurred over the course of 2021 at about $5 million.

The boy watched as his father, John K. Elliott, sat in the kitchen one afternoon in 1970, lost in thought.

“Can you pass the mashed potatoes?” Peter J. Elliott asked his father, a US marshal in Cleveland, Ohio, who was thinking about the man who had pulled off one of the biggest bank robberies in the city’s history.

“When am I going to get Ted Conrad?” John Elliott asked his son, a year after Theodore Conrad had walked off with $215,000 in cash, the equivalent of about $1.6 million today.

On Friday, more than 50 years after the heist, Peter Elliott, now a US marshal himself, had an answer for his father.

The US Marshals Service announced that it had found Conrad after investigators pursued a lead and discovered that he had been living under the fictitious name Thomas Randele in Lynnfield, Massachusetts, about 16 miles north of Boston, until his death from lung cancer in May.

Investigators had chased leads across the country, to California, Hawaii, Texas and Oregon, in search of their fugitive. Conrad was featured on several true-crime shows, including “America’s Most Wanted” and “Unsolved Mysteries.”

Investigators learned that after the theft, Conrad fled to Washington, D.C., and then to Los Angeles, and eventually went to Massachusetts in 1970, where he established deep roots with his wife and daughter. There, he was a golf pro, worked at a luxury car dealership for 40 years and enjoyed watching “NCIS” and other law enforcement shows on television, Elliott said.

Conrad was well liked in his community by police officers and other law enforcement officials.

“That’s probably why, you know, we didn’t catch up with him in the past — because he was a law-abiding citizen, and we didn’t have any fingerprints on file,” Elliott said.

On his deathbed, Conrad told his family the truth, Elliott said. He told them his real name and what he had done July 11, 1969.

It was a Friday, and he went to work at the Society National Bank in Cleveland, where he was a bank teller. At the end of the day, he stuffed money from the vault into a paper bag and left.

By Monday morning, as his co-workers opened the vault and wondered where their colleague was, Conrad had a two-day head start on the authorities.

Some of the details of the robbery, such as the denomination of the bills and how Conrad was able to stroll out without being noticed, were not immediately available. But Elliott said there was not much security at the bank, where employees were not even fingerprinted.

A year before, Conrad had been obsessed with “The Thomas Crown Affair,” a 1968 Steve McQueen film in which a bored billionaire robs a bank to amuse himself. Conrad had told friends that he planned to rob a bank, bragging about how easy it would be, the US Marshals Service said.

“He was a darer, so to speak,” Elliott said. “After seeing that movie, I believe he thought, ‘Hey, what if I do this and get away with this?’ I really think it was a challenge for him to be able to do it.”

Years later, authorities would retrieve a letter that Conrad wrote in 1969 to his girlfriend. In it, he confessed to the crime and expressed regret for committing it.

After Conrad confessed this year, his family did not contact the authorities, Elliott said. Only after authorities saw an obituary for Thomas Randele, 73, did they begin to piece together evidence, which had been mostly gathered by Elliott’s father decades ago.

Elliott said the Randele family would not be charged for failing to disclose Conrad’s confession to the authorities. Conrad had been indicted, and there is no statute of limitations on bank robbery, so he would have still been arrested if the authorities had found him, Elliott said.

He declined to share what led investigators to the obituary. But once they saw it, they found information that mirrored that of Conrad’s genuine life. Conrad’s real birth date was July 10, 1949. In the obituary, the birth date listed was July 10, 1947.

The second clue was his parents’ names. They were almost exactly the same in the obituary. The obituary also included his actual alma mater, New England College, and birthplace, Denver.

“When people lie, they lie close to home,” Elliott said.

Then, the final clue that pieced it all together: a signature from a college application, which was first found by Elliott’s father, which was similar to one that authorities found on a bankruptcy court document in 2014, scribbled with the name Thomas Randele.

That was all Elliott needed. He traveled to Lynnfield, knocked on the door and was greeted by Conrad’s family, who were surprised to see the officials.

“I feel bad for them because of a father-husband that they really never knew who he was, and also, you know, they are living under a fictitious name,” Elliott said.

Kathy Randele, Conrad’s widow, said in an interview Saturday that “we’re still mourning his loss, and he was a wonderful dad and a fabulous father.” She declined further comment.

The last time Elliott and his father talked about the bank robbery case was in March 2020, when John Elliott was in hospice.

Peter Elliott wanted to cheer him up, so he reached for his iPad and played “Lake Erie’s Coldest Cases,” a documentary series that featured an episode on the case and showed his father being interviewed.

“Hey, look, you’re on TV,” Elliott told his father, who smiled.

Father and son help crack unsolved 1969 bank robbery

An Indian-origin top executive of a pharmaceutical company in the US state of New Jersey was shot dead by a gunman who followed him home from a casino for robbery, media reports said on Saturday.

Sree Ranga Aravapalli, 54, a resident of New Jersey's Plainsboro, was killed shortly after arriving home by a gunman who, according to authorities, followed him from a casino outside Philadelphia at around 3:30 AM (local time) on Tuesday, the CBC New York newspaper reported.

Aravapalli cashed out his night's big winnings, about USD 10,000, in the early morning hours of Tuesday at the Parx Casino in Bensalem when he was spotted with the loot by 27-year-old Jekai Reid-John, of Pennsylvania's Norristown, the Post report said.

The police have arrested Jekai Reid-John and charged him with first-degree murder.

Reid-John, who did not know Aravapalli, followed him in his car as he drove back to his quiet, affluent neighbourhood in Plainsboro, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

Plainsboro Township Police Department Chief Frederick Tavener offered his condolences to Avarapalli's family, who was reportedly well known in the local community.

I want to offer my sincerest condolences to the Aravapalli family for their tragic loss. This is an unexpected and alarming event for their family, friends and our entire community,&nbsp;he said in a statement on Wednesday. 
Aravapalli is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Neighbours said that Aravapalli and his family called their secluded community home for just a few years.
