However, after going berserk against Delhi quickie Anrich Nortje in the final over, smashing him for 24 runs in boundaries, including hitting two sixes and three fours, Parag said, "I think it's a result of a lot of practice behind the scenes. Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured their first win of the new IPL campaign by defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in front of a packed home crowd at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday (Mar 24).&nbsp;Chasing a difficult target of 194, the Giants fell short by 20 runs despite a late charge from Nicholas Pooran who remained unbeaten on 64 off 41 deliveries.&nbsp;

LSG did well to take the game deep, especially considering they were&nbsp;11/3 in the fourth over. Trent Boult started off the proceedings by bowling a loosener on the pads that an unfortunate Quinton de Kock slammed straight to the lone fielder standing on the long leg boundary.&nbsp;

Devdutt Padikkal was scruffed up by the Kiwi with a bouncer to the helmet before funnelling in a length ball that uprooted the middle and offstump out of the ground. Impact sub Nandre Burger took his debut wicket in the form of Ayush Badoni who shunted a pacy delivery straight down the throat of Buttler at mid off.&nbsp;

Just when it looked like the LSG innings was disintegrating, Hooda (26) played a nice, little cameo to kickstart the comeback trail. Skipper KL Rahul picked up the scent alongside Pooran and the duo stitched an 85-run partnership.&nbsp;

Sandeep Sharma, once renowned for his opening ball bursts but now bestowed with closing the innings was called into the action in the 15th over and flipped the game on its head. He picked up Rahul's wicket and bowled couple of miser overs which increased the asking rate astronomically.

In the end, LSG needed 27 runs off the last over, which proved a touch too much, even for someone like Pooran who was seeing the white ball like a football.

Batting first, the Royals were off to a poor start as Jos Buttler departed on the lowly score of 11, attempting a loose waft at an outside off delivery bowled by Naveen-ul-Haq. KL Rahul, donning the gloves for the first time after his injury, managed to make the difficult chance easy.&nbsp;

Buttler's partner and rising superstar Yashasvi Jaiswal did play a few audacious shots but he also departed in the powerplay as he scythed a back-of-length delivery, straight to Krunal Pandya at mid-on.&nbsp;

Newly promoted at no. 4, Riyan Parag joined forces with his skipper and the duo started the rebuilding process. Both players took some time in the middle to get used to the double-paced nature of the pitch before cutting loose.&nbsp;

India is no.1 in the world… the number of players, the number of talent and the competitions we have... a guy from Kerala. if he has to come and cement his place in the national side, he has to do something special.”

R Ashwin heaped praise on Sanju Samson and has labelled the young Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain as 'phenomenal' ahead of the Indian premier League (IPL) 2024 edition, which gets underway on March 22. Samson has been leading the RR franchise since IPL 2021 and led them to the final in IPL 2022. In IPL 2023, the Royals ended fifth and narrowly missed out on entering the playoffs. IPL 2024 Auction - Full list of players retained and released by Rajasthan Royals

England batter Joe Root has decided to withdraw from the IPL 2024 season. The news was confirmed by Rajasthan Royals, the franchise Root played for, ahead of the player retention deadline on November 26 4 PM. Root had made his debut in the lucrative league only last year.

Royals, who had bought Root for his base price of about $121,000 (INR 1 crore) in 2023, issued a statement on their website and said that they 'respect' Root's decision.

"During our retention conversations, Joe informed us of his decision to not take part in IPL 2024," said Kumar Sangakkara, Royals' director of cricket.

During his time with the Royals, Root played three matches only and batted in one of them, scoring 10 runs. Sangakkara was, nonetheless, full of praise for the former England skipper.

"Even in a short span of time, Joe was able to create such a positive impact on the franchise and the players around him. His energy around the group and the experience he brought to the Royals will be missed. We respect his decision totally and wish him success in everything he does," Sangakkara said.

The team statement also thanked Root for sharing wisdom and knowledge with young players including Yashasvi Jaiswal.

"The 32-year-old's addition to the Royals squad brought in plenty of depth and experience, which served as a learning experience for a lot of youngsters in the side like Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team," read the franchise statement.&nbsp;

Root is the second England player after Ben Stokes to opt out of the IPL 2024. The current England Test skipper sighted upcoming India Tests and workload management as his reasons for staying away from the cash-rich league this year.

"When I put my name up for the auction, they (RCB) promised me that they will go all out for me," Chahal told Ranveer Allahbadia's YouTube channel. "I said okay, but then I was very angry. I think I did not speak to the coaches for two-three days. Even when I played my first match for RR against RCB, I did not speak to anyone."

"Definitely, I felt very bad. My main journey started in 2014. I also felt very weird because I played for the franchise for eight years. I would also say that I got the India cap because of my performances for RCB because they gave me a chance to perform. From the very first match, Virat bhai showed trust in me," Chahal added.

As they say, what happens, happens for good. Chahal too felt the same after spending two seasons with Rajasthan Royals, wherein he picked 48 wickets and also won the Purple Cap during the Royals' run to their second IPL final in 2022.

"Anything can happen in the auction, and then I realised that it's okay, whatever happens, happens for good. The one plus point is that after coming to Rajasthan, I became a death bowler. At RCB, my overs were finished by the 16th or 17th over. Here, my cricket growth has improved 5-10 per cent. That attachment is definitely there for RCB, but coming to Rajasthan has helped my cricket a lot," Chahal added.

"England's white-ball captain Jos Buttler is set to be offered a landmark four-year deal by his Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals," a report from The Telegraph said.

"It is understood that the offer to Buttler is yet to be formally tabled, and its unclear whether the T20 World Cup winning captain intends to accept the deal,” the report added.

Buttler, 32, led England to their second T20 World Cup success in 2022 and had a stellar year with the IPL franchise as well. Buttler won the Orange Cap in the 2022 season and led the franchise to their first final in 14 years of the IPL in 2022. He scored a whopping 863 runs in the season that time in 17 matches but failed to deliver RR’s second IPL title.

"If a batter scores 40-50 runs in T20 in 20-25 balls, he has done well for the team. But if he's an opener, you'd want him to play 15 overs," Gavaskar said.

"If he scores a century, your team total would easily cross the 190-200 mark. That's why the way Yashasvi has batted this season has made me happy. He's a technical batter as well," the former legend added.

IPL 2023: RR's Jos Buttler creates HORRIBLE record with latest duck against Punjab Kings

The IPL 2023 edition has been a huge hit. Every year, the league stage goes down to the wire. Often,&nbsp;teams are seen fighting hard for one, or more, remaining playoffs spots till the last day of the league games. This year, the defending champions, Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT), remain the only side to have booked a slot in the playoffs, having ensured a top-two finish as well. However,&nbsp;as many as seven franchises remain in the fray to end with the remaining three spots with only four days left in the league stage.

To date, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) remain the only two teams out of this year's edition. So far, 64 out of the 70 league games have been done and dusted -- i.e. 91.42% -- but Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bangalore&nbsp;(RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and&nbsp;Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are still competing to enter the&nbsp;last four.

On Wednesday (May 17), David Warner-led DC franchise defeated PBKS by 15 runs, in match 64, to not only take Shikhar Dhawan &amp; Co. closer to early elimination but further complicate the playoffs race.

Here's what remaining seven teams have to do to grab the&nbsp;three available playoff tickets and join Hardik-led GT -

Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni's Yellow Army will confirm a place in the last four with a win over DC in their last league game on Saturday (May 20) in New Delhi. They can even progress ahead without adding to their points tally (15) if&nbsp;RCB or MI lose at least one of their remaining games.

Lucknow Super Giants:&nbsp;Krunal Pandya's LSG won a crucial home game, on Tuesday (May 17), versus MI. Thus, they are also in a safe position compared to other teams. A win will confirm a playoff berth for them and they can even go ahead with a loss but will need MI or RCB to lose one game, at least.&nbsp;

Mumbai Indians: The five-time champions will secure a berth in the last four with a win over&nbsp;SRH in their last match and if RCB lose at least one of their last two league fixtures.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: The Virat Kohli-starrer RCB can go ahead with wins in their remaining two games. If the three-time runners-up lose one, it will help CSK and LSG -- as stated above -- but the Bengaluru-based team will have to depend on how MI, KKR, RR, and PBKS fare in their last match. As of now, they have a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) than MI, RR, KKR and PBKS at +0.166.

They are left with one more game, versus PBKS on Friday (May 19) in Dharamshala. If they earn a massive victory and MI, RCB and KKR lose their remaining games, they can still enter the playoffs.

Kolkata Knight Riders: The two-time winners still have an outside chance to feature in the last four. If they get the better of LSG by a handsome margin, they can move past MI and then hope for MI and RCB to&nbsp;lose&nbsp;their remaining encounters. Their journey to the playoffs is more complicated as they will still have to rely on the outcome of the PBKS-RR face-off. For Rana &amp; Co.'s progression, they will pray for Punjab's close win over the Royals or for the game to end in a draw.&nbsp;

Punjab Kings:&nbsp;Punjab have made life much difficult for them with a loss to Warner &amp; Co. in Dharamshala. They, however, remain alive in the playoffs race by the barest of margins. They need to beat RR convincingly and hope for the likes of&nbsp;MI, RCB, and KKR to concede their remaining games.

If this happens, MI and PBKS will end at 14 points each whereas&nbsp;RCB, KKR, and RR will finish&nbsp;dozen points apiece. Thus, NRR will come into play between Mumbai and Punjab for one to join the playoffs.&nbsp;

Currently, GT are set to play the Qualifier 1, in Chennai. The likes of CSK and Lucknow have a great chance to join the last four whereas one among MI and RCB is likely to make the cut as well. Nonetheless, IPL 2023 has pulled off some big surprises already and, hence, anything is possible in the remaining four days of the league games.

On Thursday (May 18), the Faf du Plessis-led Bengaluru franchise will lock horns with the bottom-ranked SRH in Hyderabad in match 65.

Needless to say, all other teams will also have an eye on the encounter.

"You come here and try to develop parts of your white ball game, and to be around T20 cricket has been amazing, but to get the chance to speak about Test cricket with Lara and Kumar Sangakkara and other current players is invaluable," Root added.

Though just being around the legends of this game helped a lot of cricketers over time, and Root is no different. It’s about time before he will get his moment in this tournament with the bat in hand.

"Even a defence in T20 cricket has to have the intent of wanting to score. You work down the sequence of 6, 4, 3, 2, 1; or, if you're under pressure, you go 4, 3, 2, 1. But you are always looking for opportunities to score, and at the minimum, getting off strike.

"And once that intent is shown, it doesn't matter how good a bowler you are, you are always thinking that you can't give the batter anything loose because you're going to get put away. So that's one area that we've got to really look at," he added.

Further emphasising how important it is for RR to win their remaining games or at least most of them to stay alive in the playoff race, Sangakkara said this harsh loss came late, and at the wrong time for them, but he still believes Rajasthan have a potent unit to turnaround the results.
