Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma claims Rahul Gandhi uses 'body double' during yatra

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is turning out to be a solo journey for congress leader Rahul Gandhi in eastern India. After many twists and turns, the congress leader's march completed its last leg in the Indian state of Assam. In the process, the Assam police filed a case against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly inciting a crowd during the rally.

Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra runs into rough weather in East India

<p>Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (Jan 24) declared that he would ensure that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi gets arrested after the Lok Sabha election, scheduled later this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sarma's statement comes at a time when the Gandhi scion is leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra through the northeastern state.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We will arrest Rahul Gandhi after the Lok Sabha Election. We will file a civil complaint against Rahul Gandhi for instigating violence and disobedience in Guwahati today," said Sarma.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said if his government took the action now, it would be called a "political move".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The whole intention of the Yatra was to disturb Assam and jeopardise the peace in Assam. We defeated this attention seeker of his motive and now let him do whatever he wants to do beyond Dhuburi," Sarma added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tempers have been flaring between the two leaders ever since the Congress leader started his campaign from the neighbouring state of Manipur. On Tuesday,&nbsp;Gandhi's procession faced a roadblock while attempting to enter the capital city of Guwahati.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Many Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal, were booked under charges of damage to public property, violence, provocation, and assault on police personnel by the Assam Police.</p>

<p>Sarma argued that Gandhi wanted to enter the city with a huge cavalcade which could have caused a law and order problem.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"He had come with 3000 people and 200 vehicles How can this be allowed inside the city? They came and fought with the police," said Sarma.</p>

<h2><strong>The war of words</strong></h2>

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (Jan 24) declared that he would ensure that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi gets arrested after the Lok Sabha election, scheduled later this year.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (Jan 24) declared that he would ensure that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi gets arrested after the Lok Sabha election, scheduled later this year. Sarma's statement comes at a time when the Gandhi scion is leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra through the northeastern state. "We will arrest Rahul Gandhi after the Lok Sabha Election. We will file a civil complaint against Rahul Gandhi for instigating violence and disobedience in Guwahati today," said Sarma. He said if his government took the action now, it would be called a "political move". "The whole intention of the Yatra was to disturb Assam and jeopardise the peace in Assam. We defeated this attention seeker of his motive and now let him do whatever he wants to do beyond Dhuburi," Sarma added. Tempers have been flaring between the two leaders ever since the Congress leader started his campaign from the neighbouring state of Manipur. On Tuesday, Gandhi's procession faced a roadblock while attempting to enter the capital city of Guwahati. Many Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal, were booked under charges of damage to public property, violence, provocation, and assault on police personnel by the Assam Police. Sarma argued that Gandhi wanted to enter the city with a huge cavalcade which could have caused a law and order problem. "He had come with 3000 people and 200 vehicles How can this be allowed inside the city? They came and fought with the police," said Sarma. Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Rahul Gandhi claims denied entry in Batadrava Satra Temple in Assam, Congress protests

<p>Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (Jan 16), referring to the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony in Ayodhya as ‘Modi’s function’.</p>

<p>"The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh [RSS]&nbsp;and the Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] have made the January 22nd function a completely political Narendra Modi function. <h2><strong>Senior Congress leaders refuse to attend Jan 22 ceremony</strong></h2>

<p>Rahul Gandhi's comments followed a refusal from the senior leadership of the Congress to attend the consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22. The party asserted that the consecration event had unmistakably transformed into an event aligned with the RSS/BJP.</p>

<p>"Lord Ram is worshipped by millions in our country. Religion is a personal matter. But the RSS/BJP have long made a political project of the temple in Ayodhya. The inauguration of the incomplete temple by the leaders of the BJP and the RSS has obviously been brought forward for electoral gain. While abiding by the 2019 Supreme Court judgment and honouring the sentiments of millions who revere Lord Ram, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have respectfully declined the invitation to what is clearly an RSS/BJP event," the Congress party said in a statement.</p>

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday (Nov 21) took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Indian cricket team’s crushing defeat against Australia in the ODI World Cup final on Sunday. While addressing a rally in Jalore city of poll-bound Rajasthan state, Rahul Gandhi said that had Modi not attended the match, the Indian team would have won the World Cup. Then someone from the crowd shouted ‘panauti’ (a Hindi word for a person who brings bad luck or omen). To which Gandhi responded, “Yeah…panauti, panauti... Our boys were easily going to win the World Cup but the 'bad omen' made us lose. The media won't point this out but people know.” पनौती 😉 pic.twitter.com/kVTgt0ZCTs — Congress (@INCIndia) November 21, 2023 × Though the Congress MP did not directly call Modi a ‘bad omen’, he suggested that his presence in the Ahmedabad stadium, which is named after the Indian prime minister, caused the team’s downfall. Rahul Gandhi calls out govt for not inviting Congress president to G20 dinner

<p>Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (30 August) restated the claims that he made in the past about China "invading" Indian territory in Ladakh.</p>

<p>Gandhi called China's act of including Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai China as a part of its territory in its latest edition of the 'Standard Map" a "serious issue".</p>

<p>"I have been saying this for many years... What the prime minister has said, I have just returned from Ladakh... What the prime minister has said...That not an inch of land has been invaded..it is totally false," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.</p>

<p>He then claimed that all the people of Ladakh know that China has "intruded upon" Indian land.</p>

<p>On being questioned about China including Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai China in its new map, Rahul Gandhi said, "The question of the map is a very serious one. But they (China) have captured our land. The prime minister should also speak on this issue."</p>

<p>During his visit to Ladakh earlier this month, Gandhi slammed the Centre saying that its claim that not an inch of Indian land was taken by China's People Liberation Army (PLA) troops "is not true".</p>

<p>He further asserted that the local residents claim that Indian territory was infringed upon and taken by the Chinese troops, adding that it was a matter&nbsp;of concern.</p>

<p>"The locals here are concerned about China taking our land. They have said that the Chinese troops took away their grazing land. However, the PM says not an inch of land was taken away. This is not true, you can ask anyone here," Rahul had said.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Making absurd claims doesn't make other's territories yours:&nbsp;<strong>Jaishankar</strong></h2>

<p>India's foreign minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday (Aug 29) called out China's "absurd claims" for showing Indian territories as theirs.</p>

<p>Speaking at a conclave in the capital New Delhi city, Jaishankar said that it was an "old habit" of China to put out maps claiming territories that don't belong to them, and added that the Modi government is very serious about the issue.</p>

<p>"China has put out maps with territories not theirs. Old habit. Putting out maps with parts in India doesn't change anything. Our government is very clear about territory. Making absurd claims does not make other people's territories yours," Jaishankar told NDTV.</p>

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (30 August) restated the claims that he made in the past about China "invading" Indian territory in Ladakh. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (30 August) restated the claims that he made in the past about China "invading" Indian territory in Ladakh. Gandhi called China's act of including Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai China as a part of its territory in its latest edition of the 'Standard Map" a "serious issue". "I have been saying this for many years... What the prime minister has said, I have just returned from Ladakh... What the prime minister has said...That not an inch of land has been invaded..it is totally false," news agency ANI quoted him as saying. He then claimed that all the people of Ladakh know that China has "intruded upon" Indian land. On being questioned about China including Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai China in its new map, Rahul Gandhi said, "The question of the map is a very serious one. But they (China) have captured our land. The prime minister should also speak on this issue." During his visit to Ladakh earlier this month, Gandhi slammed the Centre saying that its claim that not an inch of Indian land was taken by China's People Liberation Army (PLA) troops "is not true". He further asserted that the local residents claim that Indian territory was infringed upon and taken by the Chinese troops, adding that it was a matter of concern. "The locals here are concerned about China taking our land. They have said that the Chinese troops took away their grazing land. However, the PM says not an inch of land was taken away. This is not true, you can ask anyone here," Rahul had said. Making absurd claims doesn't make other's territories yours: Jaishankar India's foreign minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday (Aug 29) called out China's "absurd claims" for showing Indian territories as theirs. Also read: China's map claiming regions beyond its border, including India, shows Beijing's 'aggressive character' Speaking at a conclave in the capital New Delhi city, Jaishankar said that it was an "old habit" of China to put out maps claiming territories that don't belong to them, and added that the Modi government is very serious about the issue. "China has put out maps with territories not theirs. Old habit. Putting out maps with parts in India doesn't change anything. Our government is very clear about territory. Making absurd claims does not make other people's territories yours," Jaishankar told NDTV.
