WATCH: Smriti Irani calls Rahul Gandhi 'misogynist' after he apparently blows a flying kiss in parliament

Day two of the high stakes Indian Parliament debate over the no-confidence motion floated against the Narendra Modi-led NDA government and reinstated opposition leader Rahul Gandhi led the opposition block. This as he delivered his much-anticipated speech in the Lower House making sharp remarks against the ruling government.

No-Confidence motion: Opposition vs Government over Manipur clashes

<p>Indian MP Rahul Gandhi addressed the Lower House (Lok Sabha) of the parliament&nbsp;on Wednesday (August 9) for the first time since being reinstated. In the speech, Gandhi took stinging jibes at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his inaction over the Manipur violence. Gandhi said BJP had divided the northeastern state into two halves and that <em>Bharat Mata (Mother India)&nbsp;</em>had been murdered there.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"A few days back, I went to Manipur. Our PM didn't go, not even to this day, because for him Manipur is not India," said Gandhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I used the name Manipur but there is no Manipur left. You have divided Manipur into two halves," he added.</p>

<p>Gandhi said he had gone to a Manipur relief camp few days back where he met a woman who had lost her child.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I asked a woman there what had happened to her. To which she replied she had only one child who was shot in front of her. She said she stayed with the dead body of the child for the whole night," said Gandhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I asked another woman the same question, to which&nbsp;she immediately started shivering and fainted in front of me."</p>

Indian MP Rahul Gandhi addressed the Lower House (Lok Sabha) of the parliament on Wednesday (August 9) for the first time since being reinstated. In the speech, Gandhi took stinging jibes at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his inaction over the Manipur violence. Gandhi said BJP had divided the northeastern state into two halves and that Bharat Mata (Mother India) had been murdered there. "A few days back, I went to Manipur. Our PM didn't go, not even to this day, because for him Manipur is not India," said Gandhi. "I used the name Manipur but there is no Manipur left. You have divided Manipur into two halves," he added. Gandhi said he had gone to a Manipur relief camp few days back where he met a woman who had lost her child. "I asked a woman there what had happened to her. To which she replied she had only one child who was shot in front of her. She said she stayed with the dead body of the child for the whole night," said Gandhi. "I asked another woman the same question, to which she immediately started shivering and fainted in front of me." Rahul Gandhi slams govt in first speech since return as MP: Mother India has been murdered

I have just spoken the truth, I apologize if it hurts you, my BJP colleagues, you don't have to fear me today, says Rahul Gandhi while addressing the Lok Sabha. I'm talking about the killing of my mother in Manipur, Manipur is my second mother. Each day you're letting violence, you're killing my mother. Indian Armed Forces can bring peace in Manipur within one day, but you're not doing it because you want to kill Bharat Mata in Manipur. PM Modi thinks Manipur is not in India, says Rahul Gandhi while addressing the Lok Sabha

I have just spoken the truth, I apologize if it hurts you, my BJP colleagues, you don't have to fear me today, says Rahul Gandhi while addressing the Lok Sabha. Within few days my arrogance went away with the journey, I had this fear in me that would I be able to walk, but few instances gave me the motivation. Last year for 130 days I travelled from one corner of the country to the other corner. Many people asked me during my journey that why are you walking? What's your aim? At the beginning I didn't had any answer to this, I wanted to see India, wanted to meet people, wanted to be with them, but didn't know what I wanted to do next.

India: Rahul Gandhi will embark on second phase of Bharat Jodo Yatra, say party leaders

The opposition parties, who have united to create the INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) front, are considering introducing a no-confidence vote in the Lok Sabha against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led administration. The INDIA alliance's action is perceived as a tactic to pressure Prime Minister Narendra Modi into speaking on the floor of the House during the current monsoon session of Parliament on the violence in Manipur.

PM Narendra Modi to face no-confidence vote in parliament today

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi returned to parliament during the ongoing monsoon session. Gandhi was welcomed by several opposition leaders. He was earlier disqualified as a member of parliament in march after the Gujarat court sentenced him to two years in jail.

India: Rahul Gandhi's parliament membership restored days after SC relief

<p>India's Lok Sabha witnessed quite an eventful day on Monday (August 7) as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi returned to the lower house of the parliament as his membership was restored.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the same day, the House was also marred by chaos, with BJP leader Nishikant Dubey accusing the Congress of 'collaborating with anti-nationals&nbsp; and China', citing a report by The New York Times.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a report titled, "A Global Web of Chinese Propaganda Leads to a US Tech Mogul", the NYT has claimed that the news portal was part of a global network that received funding from American millionaire Neville Roy Singham, who allegedly works closely with the Chinese government media machine. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The report mentioned, "In New Delhi, corporate filings show, Singham's network financed a news site, NewsClick, that sprinkled its coverage with Chinese government talking points. 'China's history continues to inspire the working classes,' one video said."</p>

<p>Dubey alleged that the article is basically exposing the "tukde tukde gang" and "some media" as they have connections to external forces that have links in anti-India activities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The BJP leader accused Congress of taking money from China, with the aim of opposing the central government. He also alleged that Congress leaders met the Chinese in 2016 to oppose the Modi government.&nbsp;</p>

India's Lok Sabha witnessed quite an eventful day on Monday (August 7) as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi returned to the lower house of the parliament as his membership was restored. On the same day, the House was also marred by chaos, with BJP leader Nishikant Dubey accusing the Congress of 'collaborating with anti-nationals and China', citing a report by The New York Times. In a report titled, "A Global Web of Chinese Propaganda Leads to a US Tech Mogul", the NYT has claimed that the news portal was part of a global network that received funding from American millionaire Neville Roy Singham, who allegedly works closely with the Chinese government media machine. The report mentioned, "In New Delhi, corporate filings show, Singham's network financed a news site, NewsClick, that sprinkled its coverage with Chinese government talking points. 'China's history continues to inspire the working classes,' one video said." Dubey alleged that the article is basically exposing the "tukde tukde gang" and "some media" as they have connections to external forces that have links in anti-India activities. The BJP leader accused Congress of taking money from China, with the aim of opposing the central government. He also alleged that Congress leaders met the Chinese in 2016 to oppose the Modi government. Also read: What is Delhi Services Bill? In 2016, they were talking to the Chinese during the Doklam crisis." He also took the names of Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh and Randeep Surjewala. The opposition asked how Dubey's mic was on throughout the processing and reportedly they wrote a letter to the Speaker. In the letter, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote, "When the Acting Chair was giving the floor to ministers to lay papers on the table, Shri Nishikant Dubey's microphone was switched on." "He proceeded to level libellous and defamatory charges against the Congress Party and Shri Rahul Gandhi, a member of the House, without having given any notice, let alone taken the permission of the Chair. His allegations were a flagrant violation of Rule 353 of the Rules of Procedure ad Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha," he added. In its verdict, the apex court said, “There is no doubt that utterances are not in good taste, person in public life is expected to exercise caution while making public speeches.” The court accepted his affidavit in the contempt petition and observed that Gandhi ought to have been more careful. Supreme Court said that the trial court judge did not give any reason for imposing the maximum sentence on Gandhi and added that the order of conviction needs to be stayed pending final adjudication. Granting relief to the Congress leader, Supreme Court said that the ramifications of the order given by the trial court are wide. “Not only was Gandhi’s right to continue in public life affected but also that of the electorate who elected him,” said the court. #BREAKING Supreme Court stays Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's conviction in the criminal defamation case over the 'Modi surname' remark. Interestingly, everybody who is aggrieved in this very ‘small’ community in 13 crores, only people suing are BJP office-holders,” said senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, as quoted by legal website Live Law. “The judge treats this as a serious offence involving a moral turpitude. This is a non-cognisable, bailable, and compoundable offence. The offence was not against society, not kidnapping, rape, or murder. How can this become an offence involving moral turpitude?” Singhvi quizzed. Replying to the arguments of Singhvi, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, who appeared for complainant Purnesh Modi, stated that the entire speech was more than 50 minutes long and they have a plethora of clippings of the speech and evidence attached in the Election Commission of India’s record. The Supreme Court stated that it wanted to know why Gandhi was given the maximum sentence. “Had the judge given a sentence of 1 year and 11 months, then he (Rahul Gandhi) would not have been disqualified,” the Supreme Court stated.
