Following his steep rise in the T20Is, Rinku got picked in the white-ball squad for South Africa, starting with the first T20I in Durban on Sunday (Dec 10). With Rinku and head coach Rahul Dravid working together for the first time, Rinku explained how he felt training with the India veteran.

Upon landing in the Rainbow Nation earlier this week, the Indian players roamed a bit before getting down to business. Detailing his brief experience thus far, Rinku said he felt great sharing the dressing room with re-elected India coach Dravid.

Speaking via BCCI's video on their social media handles, Rinku said,&nbsp;"The weather is beautiful here. We went for a walk after coming here, and then I went into the nets. This was the first time that I trained under Rahul Dravid, and it was a great feeling. He told me to stick to what I was doing and trust my process."

It is to be noted that the likes of Rohit and Virat Kohli have not featured in India's T20I setup post the national side's 2022 T20 WC semi-final loss to eventual winners England, in Adelaide. Since then, the two have focused on the longer formats due to the WTC 2023 final, held in June, and the ODI WC at home. In Rohit's absence, Hardik Pandya led the T20I side before Suryakumar Yadav took over in the latter's absence due to injury,&nbsp;during the recently-concluded Australia series at home (which Men in Blue won 4-1).&nbsp;

"Dravid and his support staff have been asked to focus on the T20 World Cup as of now. The priority is to win that tournament in the US and Caribbean. The long-term planning can wait. Things will be taken forward from there. Their services will be on a pro-rata business as of now till modalities are formalised," a BCCI source told Times of India (TOI).

Following the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, contracts were expiring for coaching staff of Rahul Dravid (head coach), Paras Mhambrey (bowling coach), Vikram Rathour (batting coach) and T Dilip (fielding coach). The board, said to be keen on appointing a new head coach with the South African tour on the horizon, went back to Dravid till the next major assignment.&nbsp;

Having enjoyed a successful stint as the gaffer of the side Dravid’s deal was up after India’s ODI World Cup campaign, however, on Wednesday (Nov 29), the BCCI opted to extend the contract that will run at least until the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to Gambhir, it is the best possible thing that can happen to Indian cricket as the national side continues to make progress despite its failure to win an ICC trophy in the last decade.

Although he didn’t score daddy hundreds, like the Kohlis or Iyers or even Rahuls, the starts Rohit provided laid the platform for everyone to come and smash from ball one.

His numbers were impressive – scoring 597 runs in 11 matches at an average of 54.27 and striking at 125.94.

"So, now, at this stage, it's about just focusing on getting the guys who you think are going to be playing in the XI in the best possible space mentally and physically, to be able to play that semi-final and, hopefully, the final if we earn it," Dravid said.&nbsp;

"So, that will be the single-pointed thinking. There are times for larger-picture thinking, and there are times for narrow-focus thinking in my opinion, and now's the time for narrow-focus thinking if everyone is fit,” the head coach added.

Apart from his batting credentials, Kohli is adored by the fans for his unique bowling action. During the India vs Sri Lanka match, the fans in the stand were egging captain Rohit Sharma to give the ball to Kohli as the islanders lost six&nbsp;wickets with only 14 runs on the board.&nbsp;

Kohli rarely bowls in international matches but had to roll up his arms, early in the tournament when Hardik Pandya walked out of the field due to an injury, mid-way into the over.&nbsp;

The World Cup 2023 might end on November 19, but cricket won’t. Four days after the CWC final in Ahmedabad, India and Australia will lock horns in the five-match T20Is, starting November 23 in Vizag.

Per the latest reports, the selection committee will rest the seniors and the head coach, Rahul Dravid, for this series. In his absence, Dravid’s former teammate and friend, VVS Laxman – the NCA head, will coach the new-look Indian Team.

Every time Dravid is granted rest, Laxman has filled in his shoes. The last time Laxman coached an Indian Team was during the Asian Games 2023 campaign, where they won the gold medal. Before that, Laxman was in charge during the Ireland T20Is, which marked the return of Jasprit Bumrah.

“VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break, and the same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup,” a PTI news agency report quoted a BCCI source as saying.

The former India skipper also said that he wants to see some variety and good contest between bat and ball throughout the tournament.

"I just want to see some variety," Dravid said. "There will be some good wickets and games that are high-scoring. And there will be other games where the ball turns, and others where it seams a little bit. You've got a long tournament, and you're playing in India in different parts of the country. There will be different wickets and different challenges. Teams that are able to cope with all those challenges are the ones that will end up being successful."

India next play New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamsala in a clash of table-toppers.

Gavaskar has suggested the Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid-led Indian thinktank to bring in Mohammed Shami in place of Bumrah.

In an interaction with India Today, Gavaskar said, "I think Shami is someone who they have to bring into the team, because the next match in Dharamsala, in conditions which will assist a fast bowler. You need Jasprit Bumrah to be 100 percent there. Also, there is a just a couple of days gap between the game against Bangladesh in Pune and New Zealand in Dharamsala. There is going to be a change in weather also. Ideally, I think Jasprit Bumrah be given a bit of break and then maybe Shami comes in."

The Little Master further added, "You really are not losing anything with Shami coming back in the team. Siraj had a bit of a breather against the Australians in the 3-match series before the World Cup. Shami coming in against Bangladesh is something that the think tank might think of."

Ahead of the India-Bangladesh tie, India's bowling coach Paras&nbsp;Mhambrey lavished huge praise on Bumrah in the pre-match presser and said, "You have seen him in the last three games that he has played, what he brings to the table, he is a world-class bowler. He gives you that breakthrough that you require in the power plays. He's well adapted to bowl in the middle overs and he's a top gun dead bowler."&nbsp;

Mhambrey hinted that India are likely to go unchanged in the game versus the Bangla Tigers.

However, the Indian Coach and veteran cricketer, Rahul Dravid, offered hopes by saying, Gill is "feeling better than yesterday" and the medical team is monitoring him, we've got 36 hours to go (for the game).

Queried on whether Gill would be in a condition to play the game on Sunday, Dravid said, "the medical team hasn't ruled him out yet".

India will take on Australia at Chennai's MA Chidambaram stadium on 8th October, in what will be the opening game for both teams.

Having arrived in Chennai on Wednesday noon, the Indian and Australian teams commenced net practice sessions at the stadium on Thursday, while Gill had to give these sessions a miss, owing to his poor health as the home team's first game in the World Cup, Sunday's game is much awaited.

With the ODI format and its relevance being debated about, after the average footfall at the inaugural England vs. New Zealand game in Ahmedabad, Sunday's game is expected to show the enthusiasm that a team India game generates in the stadium and off it.

Speaking of the hectic travel and demanding World Cup schedule across ten-Indian cities, Dravid said he saw it as a great opportunity for the Indian team to perform before the home crowd and showcase their talent.

Queried about the ideal score for the India-Australia game, Rahul mentioned he saw no ideal score and teams would have to "adapt and react", as there was no template of a safe total. On the larger tournament, he elaborated on the red soil and black soil conditions at different pitches across venues and how each one posed a unique challenge.

On the dwindling popularity of the ODI format, Dravid said the Indian team hasn't played a lot of ODI Cricket in recent times. He listed out the T20 tournaments that had to be played in quick succession and also the impact of COVID as being some of the probable factors.

"It (ODI) is a fantastic format to play - how much will be decided by a variety of factors..." he said.

He also described how ODIs brought out the best in players and cited the example of Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj's six-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the final game of the recently concluded Asia Cup ODI series.

Interestingly, in the 1987 Cricket World Cup, the first match of the tournament was held in Chennai and it was an India-Australia clash. Defending champions India lost the hard-fought game to Australia, by a margin of one run. Batting first, the Aussies notched up 270 in 50 overs.

In fact, there was a dispute over whether the final ball went for a four or for a six. It is said that the umpire signalled a four and the Aussies were unhappy. When the umpire consulted the Indian skipper Kapil Dev, he is said to have allowed it to be considered a six.

While India had a great chase and made it to 207/2, wickets started falling rapidly and India were struggling at 265/9.

In the penultimate ball of the last over, the final Indian wicket fell when the scorecard read 269.

It was a hard-fought match and the winning margin was a single run. Later in that tournament, Australia were crowned champions.

In September 2017, at an ODI against Australia in Chennai, the hosts had defeated the visitors by 26 runs. Many Indian fans saw this as a fitting response to the 1987 game, at the same venue.

In March 2023, when India and Australia played an ODI in the city, the visitors managed to defeat the hosts by 21 runs and bagged the series 2-1. Such is the legacy of India-Australia ODI games in Chennai!

All teams have to announce their final 15 prior to September 28 and any changes after that date would need&nbsp;approval from the ICC. With suspense continuing on Ashwin's place, head coach Rahul Dravid revealed there are 'no changes' as of now on the final 15, which was announced early this month.&nbsp;

“We have to wait for an official confirmation or a decision on that. The NCA is in touch with the selectors and Ajit (Agarkar) so I will not make any comments on that.
