Early-season Premier League pacesetters Tottenham slipped to a fourth defeat in five matches on Wednesday, going down 2-1 to West Ham after throwing away the lead yet again. Ange Postecoglou's team raced out of the blocks at the start of the campaign, playing a dazzling brand of attacking football and winning eight of their first 10 games to top the table.

But their momentum has slowed dramatically in recent weeks and they now find themselves nine points behind leaders and bitter London rivals Arsenal. Spurs came into the match in buoyant mood after an enthralling 3-3 weekend draw against champions Manchester City and they started in style at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Cristian Romero put the home side ahead early, just reward for their dominance, but the visitors equalised through Jarrod Bowen shortly after half-time and James Ward-Prowse completed the turnaround in the 74th minute.

Delighted West Ham manager David Moyes said his side had the ability to give top sides a "bloody nose". "Huge performance because of the quality of the opposition," he told Amazon Prime. "We were up against it tonight. We had to dig in. Thankfully we just about scraped it. "The quality Tottenham showed in the first half, I don't know if we touched the ball for eight or nine minutes."

<h2>- Spurs on top -</h2>

Spurs enjoyed around 90 percent possession in the opening minutes as the visitors struggled to make any sort of impact. They got the reward they deserved in the 11th minute, when Romero met an outswinging corner from Pedro Porro and guided his header into the top corner from the centre of the penalty box.

The home team continued to dominate and create chances, with Dejan Kulusevski catching the eye. Giovani Lo Celso's shot in the 35th minute was saved by Lukasz Fabianski before Brennan Johnson fired straight at the goalkeeper

But Spurs failed to make their overwhelming superiority count and were grateful when Lucas Paqueta headed wide after a fine cross from Mohammed Kudus in the closing minutes of the first half. Spurs nearly doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Lo Celso's cross was deflected onto the stanchion by West Ham captain Kurt Zouma.

But the second period was a different story, with West Ham dangerous on the break and Spurs' energy levels dipping. England forward Bowen&nbsp;battled to win the ball on the left and fed Kudus, whose shot was deflected into Bowen's path and he made no mistake to level in the 52nd minute -- scoring for the seventh away game in a row in the league.

Spurs substitute Richarlison came agonisingly close to levelling with his first touch but his header was inches wide of the back post. Instead it was West Ham who scored next, taking advantage of a defensive calamity.

Destiny Udogie played a back pass back to goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario but it was short and Vicario could only parry it away to&nbsp;Ward-Prowse,&nbsp;who hit the post but tucked the rebound into an empty net. It means for the fifth game running Spurs failed to win after scoring first -- losing four and winning one of those games.

Spurs captain Son Heung-min pleaded with his team to be more ruthless. "You get the lead five times in a row and losing the game is unacceptable," he said. "We were soft and especially in the Premier League, even if you're winning 2-0 or 3-0 you never know what's going to happen in the end. One-nil isn't enough, you have to try to kill the game."

The defeat leaves Spurs in&nbsp;fifth spot, three points outside the top four, while West Ham are ninth.

Premier League: West Ham battle back to heap pain on wasteful Spurs

Manchester United's Scott McTominay continued his rich vein of goalscoring form when he netted either side of halftime to lift his team to a well-deserved 2-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

United dominated in a victory that relieved some pressure on beleaguered manager Erik ten Hag, whose team have been hounded by reports of unrest in the dressing room, and moved them into sixth in the table on 27 points -- three shy of the top four -- after 15 games. Chelsea are 10th on 19 points.

United peppered Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez with 28 shots including nine on target in a terrific fight-back after Saturday's 1-0 loss at Newcastle that McTominay called "abysmal". "The boys were so upset with how we done with that game, it wasn't anywhere near good enough, and to come in tonight and win was a plus and something we can build on," the midfielder told Amazon Prime.

United's victory was their fourth in their last five league games. "After the last game at Newcastle, it was not good," midfielder Sofyan Amrabat said. "We wanted to react today to show the fans our energy and that we wanted to win."

McTominay, who now has five goals in the league this season, opened the scoring in the 19th minute, taking one touch before firing in a left-footed volley after Harry Maguire's shot was blocked. Chelsea's Cole Palmer, who grew up a United fan and was playing his first game at Old Trafford, levelled just before halftime when he threaded a left-footed shot through defender Victor Lindelof's legs and past keeper Andre Onana.

McTominay's second of the night came in the 69th minute when he headed in a pinpoint cross from Alejandro Garnacho. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who were heavily criticised for their lackadaisical effort on Saturday, were left out of the starting line-up.

United captain Bruno Fernandes had a penalty saved in the ninth minute after VAR determined Antony had been fouled in the penalty area. McTominay had numerous chances for a hat-trick including in a frenzied few seconds when Sanchez denied him with a stunning double save just before the interval.

"The other team deserved the victory," Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino said. "It was difficult at the start. They showed massive energy."

PL: Scott McTominay nets brace to lead Manchester United to impressive 2-1 win over Chelsea

Aston Villa dealt a major blow to Manchester City's Premier League title challenge as Leon Bailey clinched a 1-0 win against the reeling champions on Wednesday. Bailey's deflected second-half strike at Villa Park moved Unai Emery's side above spluttering City into third place.

Pep Guardiola's fourth-placed team have gone four league games without a win and sit six points behind leaders Arsenal. After draws with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, the treble winners desperately needed to beat Villa to keep in touch with the Gunners.

Instead, they produced their worst performance of the damaging run and could easily have lost by more than one goal. City looked weary for long periods but with a trip to Saudi Arabia for the FIFA Club World Cup looming before the hectic Christmas schedule, there is little respite in sight.

Reacting to questions this week about City's blip, Guardiola boldly proclaimed his team will definitely retain the Premier League title. The City boss won't be panicking yet, after all they erased an eight-point gap to overhaul Arsenal in the closing weeks of last season's title race.

But this was a major setback to their hopes of an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League crown. "Aston Villa were better. They played a fantastic game, we struggled to make our process and be more aggressive," Guardiola said. "The fact we didn't win the last few games, that's the quality of the Premier League. We know what's our level. We're struggling a bit. I'm here to help them."

Villa's 14th consecutive home league victory provided more evidence of the remarkable job done by Emery since he replaced the sacked Steven Gerrard last season. Emery's team look genuine top-four contenders and Saturday's visit from Arsenal gives their manager, sacked by the Gunners in 2019, a chance to prove a point to his old club, who are only four points above them.

"We did a fantastic match. When you are playing Manchester City you have to get your moments and try to control the game. We created chances but it was very tough," Emery said after his first win over Guardiola at the 14th attempt.

<h2>- Shell-shocked City -</h2>

City had conceded 10 goals in their previous four games, so Guardiola shuffled his midfield, selecting John Stones, making his first appearance since November after a muscle injury, and youngster Rico Lewis in a line-up featuring six natural defenders.

Despite the defensive reinforcements, City were repeatedly carved open with alarming ease. City have often struggled whenever the influential Rodri has been absent over the last year and the Spain midfielder's suspension again seemed to unsettle the champions, who have lost all four games without him this season.

Guardiola wore a worried look on the touchline after John McGinn's sublime pass sent Bailey racing into the area for a shot that Ederson palmed away. Ederson was called into action again moments later as he leapt to his right to tip over Pau Torres's long-range curler.

City needed a goal to settle their nerves and Erling Haaland should have delivered it. Surging into the Villa area, Haaland's drive was saved by Emiliano Martinez, who scrambled to his feet to make another fine stop when the City striker rose to head Bernardo Silva's cross goalwards seconds later.

But without the suspended Jack Grealish and injured Jeremy Doku, City were impotent for the rest of the game as Villa took control. McGinn wasted a glorious opportunity for Villa midway through the second half when the midfielder cut inside Ruben Dias, but screwed his shot wide with just Ederson to beat.

Villa finally made the breakthrough their performance deserved in the 74th minute. Bailey accelerated away from Josko Gvardiol to the edge of the area, where his shot took a hefty deflection off Dias as it fizzed past the wrong-footed Ederson. It could have been even worse for City as Douglas Luiz's strike hit the woodwork on a worrying evening for the shell-shocked champions.

Premier League: Aston Villa climb above Man City as Leon Bailey rocks reeling champions

Declan Rice's header deep in stoppage time sealed an enthralling 4-3 victory for Arsenal at lowly Luton Town to send them five points clear at the top of the Premier League on Tuesday. Arsenal had been knocked out of their stride by an energetic and direct Luton side and it looked as though they were about to extend their winless run at Kenilworth Road to 11 games.

But with six minutes of stoppage time played Rice found space to dispatch a header into the net. His last-gasp goal sparked unbridled joy for the visitors who have now won four league games in a row, but it was heartache for an intrepid Luton side who had twice come from behind to lead early in the second half.

Arsenal have now taken nine extra points this season courtesy of goals scored in the last five minutes of games. "Luton are a top side and they can't be overlooked in this league for the quality they have," Rice told Amazon Prime. "To score in the last minute and keep the momentum building it's massive for us. Those are the moments you look back on. What a game. To score the winner is an honour."

Arsenal have 36 points from 15 games played with Liverpool on 31 and champions Manchester City on 30 before their games at Sheffield United and Aston Villa respectively on Wednesday. After a weekend of high-scoring encounters the opening 20 minutes on a raw night at Kenilworth Road were uneventful with no hint of the thriller that was to unfold.

But the game exploded into life when some quick thinking from a throw-in ended with Gabriel Martinelli scuffing a shot inside the post from Bukayo Saka's cut back. Luton responded five minutes later with Gabriel Osho powering a header past David Raya from Alfie Doughty's corner.

Saka and Martinelli were both denied by saves from Thomas Kaminski but Arsenal did go ahead again just before the break with Gabriel Jesus heading in Ben White's dinked cross.

Arsenal had not won at Luton since 1986 and they were rocked on their heels early in the second half as first Elijah Adebayo headed in another Doughty corner in the 49th minute before Andros Townsend played in fellow former England international Ross Barkley eight minutes later to drill a shot through Raya.

Raya should have done better for Luton's second and third goals but his blushes were spared by his team mates. The old stadium was still reverberating from Barkley's goal when Kai Havertz squared it up on the hour from Jesus's pass.

Arsenal applied intense pressure but Luton appeared to have sealed a memorable point until Martin Odegaard's cross picked out Rice who placed a perfect header past Kaminski. "Incredible evening. First of all, congratulations to Luton, their players, staff, the atmosphere they created made it a special night to play football and they made it very hard for us," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. "They are so good at set pieces and they made us really fight for the game and at the end it was a beautiful win."

Luton remain fourth from bottom with nine points and while the defeat stung, manager Rob Edwards was rightly proud of his players who gave Arsenal a real scare. "Arsenal wanted a game of order and we made it chaotic at times," Edwards said. "I don't think that has ever happened to me, conceding that late to lose a game so I'm flat right now."

Premier League: Arsenal go five clear after Declan Rice seals seven-goal thriller at Luton

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland may face a sanction for criticising officials for a controversial call during the Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur. The game ended in a 3-3 draw after the referee stopped it in injury time when City seemingly had a chance to score and win.&nbsp;

City were leading 3-2 before Dejan Kulusevski scored an equaliser in the 90th minute for Tottenham. Five minutes into the stoppage time, Haaland was fouled by opposition defender Emerson Royal but the striker got up on his feet and continued. Referee Simon Hooper kept the game going but stopped when Haaland passed the ball to Jack Grealish who had a clear run to goal.

Manager Erik ten Hag has played down reports of unrest in Manchester United's dressing room ahead of their Premier League showdown with Chelsea on Wednesday. The club banned four journalists from Tuesday's press conference after they reported that the manager had lost more than 50% of the dressing room.

The manager was asked if he was concerned that the stories in the media could be true.

"No, of course there are always in every team players who are not playing who are not as happy, not different as normal, you have to wait for the chance and that can come, but there are no issues," he said.

Ten Hag backed the stand taken by United.

"They should have come to us first and not go behind our back printing articles, that is not the right thing," Ten Hag told reporters. "We have a good relationship, they come to us beforehand, we have a debate about it."

The Dutchman then highlighted his team's success, adding that he had the support of the players.

"Oh yes, I am sure, you can see for instance the comeback against Brentford, the Burnley game, the Fulham game, every time the team is there, showed great character, great determination, resilience so we are together.

"You can see you can't play such great football as we did recently without unity."

The manager was also keen to point out that there is no disorder within the squad.

"Not in the dressing room. Of course, there are a lot of rumours but it is not that we get distracted by it," Ten Hag said. "We are on a journey, a route, we know we are in transition but we are in the right direction, we construct a team, develop it, the team is progressing, young players coming in and you see the potential how they can contribute to a successful Manchester United team for the future."

After three consecutive league wins, United suffered a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday, but the manager was not too concerned.

"We had a week of two good performances and one bad performance so from there on we carry on, the team is in a good direction.

"We played very good football scored very good goals against Galatasaray and Everton and against Newcastle didn't play great, we're not happy with that performance, but we stayed in the game and had two good opportunities to get a point."

United are seventh in the standings with 24 points.

The Premier League announced on Monday it had agreed a record £6.7 billion ($8.45 billion) domestic television rights deal for a four-year period starting from the 2025/26 season.

The current deal is reported to be worth around £5 billion over a three-year cycle and covers 200 matches per season.

The English top flight hailed the agreements shared between different broadcasters as the "largest sports media rights deals ever concluded in the UK".

Sky Sports and TNT Sports have retained their rights to show live matches, with Amazon, currently showing 20 matches per season, not part of the next cycle.

Sky will screen a minimum of 215 live matches per season while TNT will broadcast 52. BBC Sport will continue to broadcast highlights via its Match of the Day programme.

A Saturday afternoon blackout, designed to protect attendances in the lower leagues, will remain but for the first time all matches outside of those scheduled for 3:00 pm on Saturday will be screened live.&nbsp;

The Premier League boasted of a four percent increase in live rights value compared with the previous process but the broadcasters will be paying significantly less per game because they will be showing more matches each season.

"The outcome of this process underlines the strength of the Premier League," said the Premier League's chief executive, Richard Masters.

"It is testament to our clubs, players and managers who continue to deliver the world's most competitive football in full stadiums, and to supporters, who create an unrivalled atmosphere every week."

He added: "As longstanding and valued partners, Sky Sports and TNT Sports are renowned for consistently delivering world-class coverage and programming.

"We have enjoyed record audiences and attendances in recent seasons, and we know that their continued innovation will drive more people to watch and follow the Premier League."

The Premier League said the new deal would provide financial certainty for clubs throughout professional football until at least 2029.

It is the first Premier League tender process since 2018 as the current deal was rolled over in 2021 for an extra three years due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The deal will maintain the huge financial advantage Premier League clubs enjoy over their European competitors thanks to far more lucrative domestic and international TV rights deals.

International rights for the English top flight overtook the value of domestic rights for the first time last year and are estimated to bring in £5.3 billion between 2022 and 2025.

The Premier League accounted for 11 out of the top 20 clubs in this year's Deloitte Football Money League, with champions Manchester City in top spot.

Eddie Howe has defended Newcastle's position after a move by Premier League clubs to impose a temporary ban on loans between associated clubs failed to attract sufficient support. Eight of the 20 top-flight sides are understood to have opposed the move at a meeting on Tuesday, with 14 votes required for a vote to carry.

Saudi-owned Newcastle have been linked with a move in the January transfer window for former Wolves captain Ruben Neves from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. Newcastle are 80 per cent owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which also has controlling stakes in four Saudi clubs including Al-Hilal.

Neves, 26, could help boost Howe's midfield options in the absence of Italy international Sandro Tonali, who is serving a 10-month ban for breaching betting rules. Howe said Newcastle, seventh in the Premier League ahead of their home match against Chelsea on Saturday, were relaxed about the outcome of the vote.

"Newcastle as a club had a view. We voted our way in the way that we're allowed to and the vote came out on the side that it did," Howe said.

"Just from my dealings with it, we're very relaxed on it. It's not the be all and end all for us. We've got a squad that we really like. If we can get players fit before January the need to recruit will become much less intense for us."

De Zerbi was shown a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor in the 69th minute at the Amex Stadium for his remonstration as Brighton were denied a penalty after Kaoru Mitoma's shot hit the arm of Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool's boss Juergen Klopp turns peacemaker, uses 'age' to calm down Roberto De Zerbi

Harry Maguire has thanked David Beckham after the former Manchester United star contacted the troubled England defender to offer support when he was booed by Scotland fans earlier this season. Maguire has endured abuse from supporters across the country during his difficult spell at Old Trafford, but the penchant for picking on the centre-back reached a crescendo during England's friendly in Scotland last month. The 30-year-old was mercilessly goaded at Hampden Park after scoring an own goal in England's 3-1 win.

Maguire laughed it off as a "little bit of banter" immediately after the match but his mother publicly came to his defence after growing tired of the relentless abuse of her son. Former England captain Beckham also offered support to Maguire as he personally reached out to the former Leicester star, who has lost his place in the United defence, as well as the club captaincy, during Erik ten Hag's reign.

Few have faced more difficult times in an England shirt than Beckham, who laid bare the pain he suffered after his 1998 World Cup red card against Argentina in a new Netflix documentary.

"I actually spoke with David about three weeks ago, after the Scotland game," Maguire said on Monday (Oct 9). "He got in touch with me, so it was really nice of him and I really appreciated that. It meant everything.

"I've spoken throughout my career about David Beckham being someone I looked up to and watched when I was a young boy. "Unfortunately, I didn't end up on the right wing scoring and assisting as many goals as he has. But he was a big role model when I was growing up. "It shows how classy he is to reach out to me and to message me. It was something I really appreciated. It was touching really."

Maguire said the "main thing" Beckham did in their conversation was to remind him of his career to date and the big moments he has enjoyed.

"I think when you're going through tough moments, you've got to go through past experiences and where you've gone in your career and what you've been through," Maguire said in the build-up to England's friendly against Australia at Wembley on Friday.

"Every career is so up and down, especially when you reach what I've reached, in terms of being the captain of the biggest club in the world for three and a half years. He's been in that position and knows what it's like.

"Obviously having watched the documentary I couldn't believe how much he went through at the time. In the documentary, Gary Neville speaks about how resilient he is as a person.&nbsp;

"I think he's been a huge role model for many footballers growing up, especially in my era."

Football: Harry Maguire thanks David Beckham for support in difficult times

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has backed struggling Rashford to come good while promising that the team will support him fully. The comments come after United lost to Newcastle United - their sixth lose of the season in the Premier League, during which Rashford was substituted in 61st minute.

Rashford's form has gone down drastically as the England forward has managed to just score two goals in 18 games across all competitions this season while he had managed 30 goals last season.

"I know this issue is coming up and Marcus is investing a lot, we support him and he will return to his form," said Ten Hag.

"He works hard and he's investing a lot. He will get back, he will recover and he gets all our support," he added.

The manager also spoke about the loss and agreed that Newcastle were way better than them on the day.

"Today we have to say the credit's to Newcastle," he said.

"After the start, where we could have scored with Alejandro Garnacho, they were better than us.

"They were more proactive and we had to go behind to go back. We allowed them one goal and in the end we fought back. We had two good opportunities but we couldn't take a point from there," added Ten Hag.

The closest United came to levelling was when Fabian Schar blocked Sergio Reguilon's goalbound volley.

But that incident came with a cost for Newcastle as goalkeeper Pope jolted his shoulder in an attempt to save the Spaniard's shot.

United finally showed some urgency for the closing stages plus nine minutes of added time for Pope's injury and did have the ball in the net.

However, Maguire was clearly offside as he deflected in Antony's effort and Newcastle held on to close to within two points of the top four.

With the loss, United is now seventh on the points table with 24 points after eight wins from 14 games.

Premier League: Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag vows full support to struggling Rashford

Arsenal survived a late scare against Wolves on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League as Burnley lifted themselves off the bottom with a 5-0 trouncing of 10-man Sheffield United.

Mikel Arteta's Gunners, brimming with confidence after their 6-0 hammering of Lens in the Champions League in midweek, raced into a 2-0 lead at the Emirates within 13 minutes.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring and Arsenal doubled their lead when Oleksandr Zinchenko cut the ball back for Martin Odegaard, who picked out the bottom corner.

The home side came agonisingly close to a third goal when Gabriel Martinelli cannoned a shot off the post towards the end of the first half.

But they failed to put the game to bed and were made to sweat when Wolves forward Matheus Cunha found the top corner in the 86th minute to set up a tense finale.

Despite the scare, Arsenal, last year's runners-up, held on to win 2-1 and notch their 10th win in 14 league games, which moves them four points clear of champions Manchester City, who host Tottenham on Sunday.

"Football is not perfect, but I'm really happy with the way we played," Arteta told the BBC.

"It should have been a much bigger scoreline. We made a mistake and they take the chance, and it's game on in the Premier League."

<h2>- Five-star Burnley -</h2>

At the other end of the table, Vincent Kompany's Burnley put five goals past Sheffield United at Turf Moor.

Jay Rodriguez fired the home side ahead with just 15 seconds on the clock -- the fastest goal of the season so far.

Jacob Bruun Larsen extended their lead shortly afterwards and Sheffield United's task was made almost impossible when Oli McBurnie received a second yellow card shortly before the break.

Zeki Amdouni made it 3-0 in the 73rd minute with Luca Koleosho and Josh Brownhill also finding the net as the floodgates opened.

Paul Heckingbottom's men are stuck on just a single win and have now conceded five goals or more on three occasions this season.

But Burnley are just two points behind 17th-placed Luton after only their second win of the season and Kompany said he hoped the three points would be a launch pad.

"I think the guys have deserved it," he said. "They have performed well for a while. This league is brutal.

"I haven't felt the nerves (from the team). I could barely contain them, they were raring to go. The frustration of last week (conceding two late goals against West Ham) didn't turn into negativity. It turned into 'we'll show people'."

Luton sank to a 3-1 defeat at Brentford, where Neal Maupay opened the scoring from close range early in the second half and Ben Mee made it two.

Substitute Jacob Brown rifled a shot low beyond Mark Flekken in the 76th minute to give the visitors hope but Shandon Baptiste restored Brentford's two-goal cushion just five minutes later.

Everton, in action against Nottingham Forest later on Saturday, are now bottom of the league, due to a swingeing 10-point deduction imposed for breaking Premier League financial rules.

In the late match, Newcastle face Manchester United at St James' Park, where a win for either side would lift them to fifth place in the table at the expense of Tottenham.

United have won five of their past six league games after a terrible start to the season but goalkeeper Andre Onana will be in the spotlight after costly errors in his team's 3-3 draw at Galatasary in midweek.

We made a mistake and they take the chance, and it's game on in the Premier League." - Five-star Burnley - At the other end of the table, Vincent Kompany's Burnley put five goals past Sheffield United at Turf Moor. It turned into 'we'll show people'." Luton sank to a 3-1 defeat at Brentford, where Neal Maupay opened the scoring from close range early in the second half and Ben Mee made it two.

PL: Arsenal maintain lead at top, Burnley hit five against 10-man Sheffield United

Everton submitted their appeal on Friday against a 10-point deduction handed down by the Premier League for breaches of financial sustainability rules. The Toffees have reacted furiously after being hit with the toughest sporting sanction in Premier League history for breaching loss-making limits in the 2021/22 season. Clubs in the English top flight are allowed to lose a maximum £105 million ($130 million) over a three-year period after allowable deductions are removed. An independent commission found that the Merseyside club had lost £124.5 million for the revelant period.

"Everton Football Club has today lodged with the chair of the Premier League’s judicial panel its appeal of the decision by a Premier League Commission to impose a 10-point deduction on the club," Everton said in a statement "An&nbsp;appeal board will now be appointed to hear&nbsp;the case."

The sanction has plummeted Everton into the relegation zone and put their 70-year stay in the English top-flight at risk. "We were stunned, I think football was stunned, by the outcome of the 10 points so who knows what comes next?" Everton boss Sean Dyche said ahead of Saturday's trip to Nottingham Forest.

"The way it is sounding from the noise out there it is not just about us, there will be others looked at possibly over time. We will have to wait and see." As it stands, Dyche's men are off the bottom of the table only on goal difference and five points adrift of safety.

Everton supporters staged a mass protest against the Premier League ahead of last weekend's 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United. There is scepticism at the severity of such a sanction at the same time that the Premier League is trying to resist the introduction of an independent regulator for football in England.

Manchester Mayor and Everton season-ticket holder Andy Burnham has also raised concerns over the process by which the 10-point penalty was reached. Burnham criticised the lack of a Premier League sanctions policy before the charges were brought against the club and the attempt to introduce one in August this year, while the Everton case was being held, as "regulatory malpractice."

Premier League: Everton submits appeal against punishment over FFP rules breach

Liverpool will become the latest team to attempt to storm Manchester City's Etihad fortress this weekend as Everton focus on Premier League survival following a punishing points deduction for breaching financial rules.

Arsenal have a chance to top the table depending on results elsewhere, while Tottenham host high-flying Aston Villa. AFP Sport picks out three talking points ahead of the action as the English top flight returns following the international break.

<h2>Liverpool seek to end Man City run</h2>

Liverpool have been the only team to consistently challenge Manchester City in recent years, winning 10 out of 23 matches in all competitions under the reign of Jurgen Klopp. The two sides had epic battles in the 2018/19&nbsp;and&nbsp;2021/22 seasons, when&nbsp;City&nbsp;pipped their rivals by just a single point on both occasions, while the Reds clinched their first league title in 30 years in 2020.

But Liverpool, revitalised after a below-par campaign last season, have not won a league game at the Etihad since their 4-1 demolition of City in November 2015. The reigning champions, by contrast, have won 23 matches in a row at home in all competitions.

Erling Haaland is one goal away from obliterating the Premier League record for the quickest player to 50 goals -- the Norwegian scored twice in City's frantic 4-4 draw at Chelsea earlier this month to take his tally to 49 goals in just 47 appearances. Former Newcastle and Manchester United forward Andrew Cole is the current record holder, reaching the landmark in 65 games.

<h2>Will 10-point penalty fire up Everton?</h2>

Sean Dyche's Everton had turned the corner in recent weeks, winning three of their past five games to pull well clear of the relegation zone.

But last week's 10-point deduction for breaching Premier League profitability and sustainability rules means they go into their match against Manchester United level on four points with bottom club Burnley. Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell said the team would now have added motivation, fuelled by a burning sense of injustice at the "wholly disproportionate ruling".

Despite the sanction, the nine-time English champions are just two points from safety, thanks to the poor form of the newly promoted teams. United have climbed to sixth in the table after winning four of their past five league games but they are blunt in attack and remain unconvincing at the back.&nbsp;

<h2>Spurs seek to stop rot against in-form Villa</h2>

Tottenham boss Ange&nbsp;Postecoglou&nbsp;made the best start to a season by a new manager in Premier League history after 10 games but the team has dropped off top spot due to consecutive defeats. Spurs were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea after being reduced to nine men and then lost 2-1 at Wolves in a game in which they were leading going into stoppage time.

One headache Postecoglou must deal with is the absence of playmaker James Maddison, who has made such an impact since arriving in June but has been ruled out until the New Year with an ankle injury. Postecoglou will be wary of Aston Villa, who have continued their rapid progress under Unai Emery and are just a point behind fourth-placed Spurs and three points off the top.

The Birmingham club's 3-1 win against Fulham earlier this month was a 13th successive home win -- a feat they last achieved 40 years ago. But their away form is less impressive, with just two wins from six games on the road.

Premier League Preview: Liverpool face Manchester City in litmus test; Everton host Manchester United

Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold is set to leave the Premier League club, with British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe on the brink of buying a 25 per cent stake, reports said Wednesday (Nov 15). Arnold, 52, replaced Ed Woodward as United's top executive in February last year.

Ratcliffe's INEOS Group is expected to pay about $1.56 billion (£1.25 billion)&nbsp;for a minority stake in the Old Trafford club, while also acquiring significant control over footballing operations. The BBC said the deal was expected to be ratified during the current international break, possibly as early as this week.

Arnold oversaw the appointment of current manager Erik ten Hag in 2022, who last season ended the club's six-year trophy drought. But United have had a disappointing start to the 2023/24 campaign, losing nine of their first 18 games in all competitions.

The Glazer family announced in November 2022 that they were considering "strategic alternatives" to help the club grow, which included consideration of a sale. Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Ratcliffe made offers in the region of £5 billion for a complete takeover, but that fell short of the Glazer family's valuation.

Sheikh Jassim withdrew from the process last month, while Ratcliffe continued to pursue a minority shareholding. Ratcliffe, 71, who tried to buy Chelsea last year, grew up in the Manchester region and describes himself as a lifelong fan of United.

The deal is likely to lead to a major shake-up of United's football operations. Dave Brailsford, the former performance director of British Cycling, is expected to have significant influence in his role as INEOS's director of sport.

Premier League: Manchester United chief Richard Arnold set to leave club

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has taken the blame for his side’s poor string of results in the Champions League as they sit on the brink of exit. United drew 3-3 against Galatasaray on Wednesday (Nov 29) which has now seen on the cusp of exit as they are no longer in control of their fate. Andre Onana was at fault for two goals as United twice lost a two-goal advantage and now sit with four points in five matches.

So I have to make a compliment to my team but I also have to criticise the team and us as a coaching staff and me as a manager,” Ten Hag said while speaking to the broadcasters.

"We are not defending well enough, we are leading 3-1 and you can't afford such mistakes because it makes a difference."

"We are in a project and we are moving forward, making improvement. We are going in the right direction. I know which steps we need to take,” added Ten Hag.

The result leaves United bottom of the group with four points from five matches and will depend on other results to have a chance to make the last 16 of the Champions League. Premier League: Liverpool's Luis Diaz dedicates goal at Luton to his 'kidnapped' father

Liverpool are set to be without goalkeeper Alisson Becker and forward Diogo Jota for a spell after both picked up injuries during a 1-1 draw at Manchester City, manager Jurgen Klopp said on Wednesday.

Portugal international Jota, 26, was forced off in the 54th minute at the Etihad Stadium while Brazil's Alisson, 31, appeared to sustain a hamstring problem late in Saturday's match but managed to complete the game.

"Both are out," Klopp said ahead of the Europa League visit of LASK on Thursday. "Ali is a bit lesser, so we have to see. Not day by day -- he will not play tomorrow, not on Sunday, probably not the week after. Then it should be kind of OK.

"Diogo will take a little bit longer. We don't know exactly how long, but it's a bit more severe. We have to see.

"Alisson is not as bad (as we thought), but still bad enough."

After facing the Austrians, Liverpool have three Premier League games in six days at home to Fulham and then away to Sheffield United and Crystal Palace.

Alisson is expected to return by the time Manchester United visit Anfield on December 17.

The Reds are just two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal and look set to challenge for the title once more after a disappointing slump in form last season.

The pressure will be on stand-in 'keeper Caoimhin Kelleher to deputise for Alisson.&nbsp;

Kelleher has made only five appearances this season, including three in the Europa League,&nbsp;and last played back-to-back matches in January 2022.

Liverpool, who lost 3-2 in Toulouse earlier this month, will secure top spot in Group E with one game to go if they beat LASK and the Ligue 1 side do not secure a win at home to Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise.

"Toulouse was maybe a one-off performance-wise," said Klopp. "It was around Luton (a 1-1 draw) which was not too great either -- but this was in a very short period of time.

"Besides that, the boys usually perform and that's what we should concentrate on.

"We want to win tomorrow night and we want to win in Belgium as well but if we don't win tomorrow night the game in Belgium, in a super intense period, will be tough so it's all about performing tomorrow night and really going for it, that's the idea."

"Alisson is not as bad (as we thought), but still bad enough." After facing the Austrians, Liverpool have three Premier League games in six days at home to Fulham and then away to Sheffield United and Crystal Palace. Alisson is expected to return by the time Manchester United visit Anfield on December 17. The Reds are just two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal and look set to challenge for the title once more after a disappointing slump in form last season. The pressure will be on stand-in 'keeper Caoimhin Kelleher to deputise for Alisson. Kelleher has made only five appearances this season, including three in the Europa League, and last played back-to-back matches in January 2022. Premier League: Liverpool's Alisson and Diogo Jota face spell on sidelines after Manchester City clash

Furious Wolves boss Gary O'Neil said bad refereeing decisions were hurting his reputation and "people's livelihoods" after his team were on the wrong end of more VAR controversy in their 3-2 Premier League defeat at Fulham on Monday.

Willian scored two penalties -- including a stoppage-time winner -- while Alex Iwobi's early strike for Fulham was cancelled out by Matheus Cunha and Wolves' Hwang Hee-chan also netted from the spot. But VAR was once again the talking point after an engrossing match at Craven Cottage. Fulham started the match brightly and took a deserved lead in the seventh minute with a nicely worked goal down the left, finished by Iwobi.

The visitors were level midway through the first half when Cunha headed home after sparkling wing play on the right by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. Referee Michael Salisbury pointed to the penalty spot 10 minutes into the second half, ruling that Nelson Semedo had fouled Tom Cairney in the box, even though the defender appeared to have got a touch on the ball.

Following a lengthy VAR check Willian stepped forward and rolled the ball to the goalkeeper's left, adding to the pain for O'Neil, whose team have been on the wrong end of a spate of controversial penalty decisions this season.&nbsp; Wolves were awarded a spot-kick of their own when Tim Ream made a clumsy challenge on Hwang and the South Korean lashed home down the middle to pull his side level in the 75th minute.

But there was still time for a third penalty of the half. Salisbury had initially waved away penalty claims when Joao Gomes and Harry Wilson came together in the dying minutes but reversed his decision after VAR officials advised him to look at the pitchside monitor.

Willian made no mistake to seal the win for Fulham in the 94th minute. An emotional O'Neil said Salisbury admitted he should have been advised to check the pitchside monitor for the first spot-kick, adding a spate of big decisions had gone against his side.

"Nelson (Semedo) plays the ball and doesn't touch Tom Cairney," he told Sky Sports. "The referee says he felt that was wrong and he should have been sent to the monitor. "That doesn't help me. So that one has been pretty much admitted that it was a mistake. The Harry Wilson one we disagree. I feel it was soft. For all four decisions to go against us is tough to take and we didn't deserve that."

<h2>VAR impact&nbsp;</h2>

He said "bad refereeing decisions" were having a huge impact on teams and managers. "This is a big club," he added. "The impact that you are having on my reputation, and the club and people's livelihoods is massive.&nbsp;

"We should be able to talk about the game and not decisions but unfortunately we can't." He added: "I have always been for VAR but I think it is causing problems at the moment. I think VAR has cost us there.... The fact that we have conceded two, for me VAR is not helping with subjective decisions. Maybe tonight has finally turned me against VAR."

Fulham boss Marco Silva said his team had showed a "good winning spirit" to take three points for the first time since early October, lifting them 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

But he also questioned two of the penalty awards. "The second (Fulham) one is a clear penalty," he added. "The first for us and the one for them were a bit more soft. I hope (VAR) can always make the right decisions because it's their job."

Knowledge sharing and exchange of relevant expertise is the key to develop coordination and take the game of football forward, especially in developing geographies. In that context, Tottenham Hotspur (THFC) legends Ledley King and Ossie Ardiles held a special workshop for coaches in Mumbai.

The team at Spurs conducted both a theoretical and practical demonstration of the coaching methodology prevalent at their setup with the hope of enriching the emerging tacticians rising through the ranks.

“The collaboration was really good. We try to engross ourselves in communities wherever we travel. India has a big passion for football over here. We have gotten a chance to engage with them, and hopefully we can work together more for the development of grassroots football here,” Ledley said in an interaction.

He added, “It takes time to grow a game; you can’t be winning major tournaments all of a sudden. You have to put the right steps in place at the youth level and hopefully in 15-20 years, we can see the hard work of everyone coming together at the world level. The talent is there, now it’s about building the infrastructure and training the coaches here to realise their potential.”

In addition to that, the Spurs duo also participated in a footballing session with young players from the ecosystem. There were female match officials in attendance as well, enhancing the headcount of which is one of the objectives in the 2023-24 season.

“Around the world, the best footballers start playing from a very young age. Anything that you do in life, if you start earlier, you can learn your lessons quicker along the way. It's fundamental, people pick up things quicker at a young age and that gives them experience along the way,” Ledley quipped.

“Playing time is fundamental, when you are young and learning, you want to put that in the matches. I always encourage people to play at a level where they can get game-time. Be in a team where you can have time on the pitch. Sometimes, you see young people playing in a team where the level is too high for them. You have to find the right fit and right team,” he signed off.

'India has a big passion for football': Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King

Mikel Arteta has backed his former club Everton to "fight against anything" after a 10-point deduction for financial breaches left them in the Premier League relegation zone. The Arsenal boss said Friday he still felt "very connected" to the club where he spent six years, playing more than 200 games as a midfielder.

The punishment for Everton for breaking Premier League profitability and sustainability rules means they go into their match against Manchester United on Sunday level on four points with bottom club Burnley. But the nine-time English champions are just two points from safety, thanks to recent wins and the poor form of the other teams at the bottom.

"It's a very difficult moment," said Arteta. "Obviously it puts the club in a difficult position but they have been in many other difficult positions and they always find a way to get out. "If there is a quality that I think describes that club, it is the courage and determination and the fight and they will fight against anything and I wish them the best."

The Spaniard, whose third-placed side travel to Brentford on Saturday, said news of the punishment for Everton last week took him by surprise. "It's a big one in the middle of the season but I don't know the regulation or the whole story inside it so it's difficult for me to comment," he said.

Arteta was charged earlier this month by England's Football Association over an explosive VAR rant following his side's defeat 1-0 against Newcastle. Howard Webb, chief operating officer at referees body PGMOL, has publicly explained the reason for the decision to allow Antony Gordon's controversial winner.

The Arsenal boss welcomed the open communication. "We want to improve the game, all of us -- referees, managers, officials, owners, sporting directors," he said.&nbsp;

"We all want a better game and to have a better game we have to have freedom of speech, respectfully, in a constructive way but we have to promote that. If not, you don't get there, that's for sure." Saturday's game against Brentford will be Arteta's 200th in charge of Arsenal and the Spaniard, who also played for the Gunners, said he was "very proud" to reach the landmark.

When asked which game was his favourite, he said: "The first one because it's a special moment to have the possibility to become the Arsenal manager. For me it was a dream come true and looking back to that first game it's something really special.&nbsp;"I'm very proud, I'm very grateful. Obviously so many people around that have contributed in a massive way to be here for almost four years."

Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho scored a goal with an overhead kick against Everton on November 26 in Premier League, drawing comparisons with United legend Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. The goal, scored in third minute of the match, has already been described as the 'goal of the season' by United manager Erik Ten Hag.

It had fans reminiscing about Rooney's sensational goal against arch-rivals Manchester City in 2011 as well as Ronaldo's famous bicycle kick effort for Real Madrid in 2018 against Juventus. Have a look at the video below:

Ten Hag, however, thinks it's not fair to compare Garnacho to Rooney or Ronaldo just yet and the youngster has to work very hard for it.

"Don't compare, I don't think it is right," said Ten Hag. "They all have their own identity, but for Garnacho to go that way he has a lot to come, he has to work very hard. You have to do it on a consistent basis and so far he has not."

"But he definitely has high potential to do some amazing things, it's not the first time we saw this. The result also saw them climb up to sixth place on the points table with 24 points after eight wins and five losses in 13 games. Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak netted on his return from injury, while two quick-fire second-half goals and a late Anthony Gordon strike gave the Magpies a 4-1 Premier League win over 10-man Chelsea at St James' Park on Saturday.

Isak, who has missed several games over the last month due to a groin problem, was teed up by a brilliant short pass through the heart of the Chelsea defence by 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley, and the striker took a touch before firing home in the 13th minute.

Chelsea drew level 10 minutes later as Raheem Sterling was brought down on the edge of the box, and the winger stepped up to drill the resulting free kick past the flat-footed Nick Pope.

Newcastle almost went in ahead at the break as a free kick from fullback Kieran Trippier hit the crossbar, but there was little indication of the collapse to come from Chelsea in the second half.

The home side took the lead again on the hour mark as Newcastle patiently worked a free kick from right to left, allowing Gordon to find the head of Jamaal Lascelles with an inswinging cross that the Magpies captain steered into the net.

Just over a minute later Robert Sanchez was beaten again as Joelinton robbed fellow Brazilian Thiago Silva on the edge of the box and advanced before scoring to leave Chelsea on the ropes.

Any chance Chelsea had of staging a comeback vanished when Reece James collected his second yellow card for an innocuous challenge in the 73rd minute, and it prompted Eddie Howe to shuffle his deck.

Bringing a number of young players off the bench, Howe moved Gordon up front and he rounded off the scoring in the 83rd minute with an excellent individual effort as Newcastle rose to sixth in the table on 23 points, while Chelsea are 10th on 16 points.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is now the fastest player to score 50 goals in Premier League history, reaching the milestone in his 48th game. He comfortably went past Andrew Cole's 65 games record for the top spot. Haaland scored the goal during the match against Liverpool on November 25 to reach the landmark.

Haaland's performance last season also helped the City complete the famous treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League as well.

In the current season, Haaland has played 20 games in all competitions and the goal against Liverpool was his 18th this year. In the Premier League, the striker has 14 goals to his name in 13 appearance so far.

The match against Liverpool, however, ended in a 1-1 draw and ended City's victory run at home. Haaland's goal in the 27th minute gave City the lead which continued for most part of the game. In 80th minute though, Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the equaliser and the scorecard remained undisturbed after that.

With the draw, Manchester City are now second on the points table with 29 points after 13 games with nine wins, two losses and two draws. Arsenal replaced them for the top position after they won their game against Brentford 1-0 on November 25 and took their points tally to 30 - one more than the City in same number of games.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are third on the points table - one point less than City's 29 in same 13 games.

Manchester City's Erling Haaland becomes fastest to score 50 goals in Premier League during draw vs Liverpool

Liverpool snapped Manchester City's 23-match winning run at the Etihad as a clash between the Premier League's top two ended 1-1 on Saturday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's fine strike 10 minutes from time salvaged a point for the visitors after Erling Haaland's 50th Premier League goal put City in front.

A share of the spoils means there remains just one point between the sides and that Arsenal could now take top spot from City if they win at Brentford later on Saturday.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made his displeasure clear at the early kick-off time on the back of an international break where both sides had players who had been in World Cup qualifying action in South America little over 72 hours ago.

Fatigue appeared a factor as the expected fireworks failed to materialise.

The best chances before the break came from City pouncing on sloppy Liverpool passes out from the back.

Alisson Becker was let off the hook by Phil Foden's weak shot after the Brazilian gifted away possession inside his own box.

But the Liverpool goalkeeper was not so fortunate when his next sliced clearance picked out Nathan Ake. The Dutch defender dribbled forward before picking out Haaland, who found the far corner with Alisson getting a hand to his low shot.

Haaland's 50th Premier League goal in his 48th appearances smashed the previous record for the quickest half century held by Andy Cole in 65 matches.

Alisson made some measure of amends by turning behind Foden's low drive from outside the box that was arrowing into the bottom corner.

At the other end, Darwin Nunez was Liverpool's biggest threat as Mohamed Salah failed to build on his impressive record against City.

Ederson clawed away Nunez's first-half header and turned a powerful effort behind at his near post after the break.

But it was City who had looked the more likely to add to their lead in the second half as Liverpool struggled to contain the speed of Jeremy Doku on the counter-attack.

The Belgian winger teed up Julian Alvarez with a glorious chance that the Argentine spooned over.

Alisson was handed another let-off 20 minutes from time when he spilled a corner under minimal pressure from Manuel Akanji and Ruben Dias tapped home.

However, a VAR check did not overturn the referee's on-field decision to award the Liverpool 'keeper a soft free-kick.

Klopp turned to his bench to try and summon a response with Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch introduced.

Diaz's father was among the crowd after being flown to England by Liverpool to enjoy the Christmas season following a kidnap ordeal in his native Colombia. And Diaz was involved in Liverpool's leveller against the run of play 10 minutes from time.

The Colombian picked out Salah, who laid the ball into Alexander-Arnold's path for a fantastic finish into the bottom corner.

City pushed for a winner in eight minutes of added time but were thwarted as they failed to win at home for the first time since December 31 last year.

Everton director Kevin Thelwell releases statement over point deduction ahead of Premier League return

British Member of Parliament Ian Byrne has taken Everton football club’s points deduction case into the parliament as the Premier League side continues to fight off-field. Everton, on Friday (Nov 17) were sanctioned for Financial Fair Play (FFP) that saw the club hit with a 10-point deduction in the Premier League season. To fight the case, Byrne, Labour MP for West Derby will lay an early day motion (EDM) in the House of Commons on Tuesday.

<h2>Everton's case in parliament</h2>

On Friday, authorities in England found Everton guilty of a breach of profit and sustainability rules that saw them face the sanction. This has resulted in the club slipping down to 19th in the Premier League with only goal difference separating them from bottom-placed Burnley. The point’s deduction has seen Everton embroiled in another relegation fight having narrowly avoided relegation in the last two seasons.

In the motion, Byrne requested the "suspension of all proceedings and sanctions made by the Commission until the regulator makes its determination".

He added: "This House condemns the grossly unjust points deduction imposed on Everton Football Club by a Premier League commission."

"A punishment lacking any legal or equitable foundation or justification for the level of sanction and notes that financial, not sporting penalties, for far more severe breaches, have been applied.

"[The motion] declares that sporting sanctions unfairly punish supporters and notices the improper dismissal of extraordinary mitigating circumstances outlined by Everton."

<h2>What is the current scenario?</h2>

The British government has been in hot water with the fans for an independent regulator in football and announced plans for the same in February this year. With Everton now sanctioned with a point deduction, Byrne has now urged the necessity to implement an independent regulator in football. The plans for the same were outlined by King Charles III when he spoke earlier in the year.

It is also understood that Everton will formally appeal against the decision for a points deduction by the end of the week. With club football on hold due to international break, Everton are yet to be in action since the sanction was implemented. They were 14th in the standings before the sanctions were laid on the club they now look to weather the storm in yet another relegation fight.

Jürgen&nbsp;Klopp has criticised the Premier League and the broadcasters ahead of Liverpool's clash with treble-winners Manchester City. Klopp was fuming at the prospect of another 12:30 pm kick-off soon after the current international break is over, saying the schedule was made by&nbsp;“people who cannot feel football”.

Since the start of the season, Klopp's team have been handed three early kickoffs which is an inconvenience as the players returning from South America have little to no time to recover.&nbsp;

“Today was about getting through the game and we did,” said Klopp after his team’s 3-0 win against Brentford at Anfield.

“The boys responded sensationally well. Now they are all gone and we can train once before Manchester City. How can you put a game like this on Saturday at 12.30 pm? Honestly, the people making these decisions, they cannot feel football, it is just not possible. And it is the moment where the world pays the most to see a football game.”

And Klopp has all the more reasons to criticise the authorities. Since Klopp has been in charge of the Merseyside club, his team has been selected for a&nbsp;12.30 pm start after an international break on 14 occasions. The statistic appears more dramatic when a comparison is made with the second team on the list.&nbsp;

Tottenham Hotspur&nbsp;have played in six 12:30 pm games in the last eight years, which is a little less than half of what Liverpool have managed, casting serious aspersions over the decision-making process of the top Premier league hierarchy.&nbsp;

<h2>Liverpool vs Manchester City</h2>

Liverpool vs Manchester City is one of the biggest games of the season, especially in the last decade. The two teams have had numerous title charges with Klopp's men coming second to City by a margin of a single point on two separate occasions.&nbsp;

With the match expected to attract attention globally, scheduling it at a non-primetime spot has not gone down well with the club supporters as well as the officials.&nbsp;

While City are currently top of the table after playing a thrilling 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge, the Reds have climbed to second spot, one point behind City. The winner of the match, scheduled on November 25 will be able to earn the bragging rights as well as crucial three points.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Klopp was fuming at the prospect of another 12:30 pm kick-off soon after the current international break is over, saying the schedule was made by “people who cannot feel football”. Since the start of the season, Klopp's team have been handed three early kickoffs which is an inconvenience as the players returning from South America have little to no time to recover. And it is the moment where the world pays the most to see a football game.” And Klopp has all the more reasons to criticise the authorities. Since Klopp has been in charge of the Merseyside club, his team has been selected for a 12.30 pm start after an international break on 14 occasions. The statistic appears more dramatic when a comparison is made with the second team on the list. Tottenham Hotspur have played in six 12:30 pm games in the last eight years, which is a little less than half of what Liverpool have managed, casting serious aspersions over the decision-making process of the top Premier league hierarchy. The two teams have had numerous title charges with Klopp's men coming second to City by a margin of a single point on two separate occasions. With the match expected to attract attention globally, scheduling it at a non-primetime spot has not gone down well with the club supporters as well as the officials. While City are currently top of the table after playing a thrilling 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge, the Reds have climbed to second spot, one point behind City. The winner of the match, scheduled on November 25 will be able to earn the bragging rights as well as crucial three points. (With inputs from agencies)

'How can you?': Jürgen Klopp slams broadcasters for another 12:30 pm kickoff for Liverpool

Manchester City moved a point clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday after a thrilling 4-4 draw at Chelsea with Erling Haaland scoring twice only for former City man Cole Palmer to level the match from the penalty spot in added time.

City scored first when Spanish defender Marc Cucurella pulled Haaland's shirt to concede a VAR-checked penalty which the Norwegian coolly converted in the 24th minute sending Robert Sanchez the wrong way.

Five minutes later Chelsea's 39-year-old Brazilian defender Thiago Silva headed the ball into the net from a Conor Gallagher corner and it was all square. It was the first time Chelsea had scored against Manchester City since they beat them in the 2021 Champions League final.

They suffered six defeats in a row, four in the league and two in cup competitions.

Former City forward Raheem Sterling, busy and bustling all game, tapped in after a Josko Gvardiol error in defence allowed Reece James to cross in the 37th minute. Sterling refused to celebrate but Stamford Bridge erupted.

Chelsea's lead lasted less than 10 minutes before defender Manuel Akanji, who had pushed forward throughout the half, rose to head City's equaliser in first-half injury time.

The towering Haaland bundled in his second -- his 13th Premier League goal of the season -- a minute after the restart to put City ahead.

But the champions had no time to relax in the end-to-end contest and in the 67th minute of a breathless second half, the home side equalised through Nicolas Jackson.

Rodri's 86th-minute strike, that took a big deflection off Thiago Silva, put the champions ahead again.

The visitors might have thought they had the three points in the bag, only for them to concede a 94th-minute penalty, when Ruben Dias caught substitute Armando Broja’s legs in the penalty box.

Up stepped Manchester City’s academy graduate Palmer to show no nerves as he blasted the penalty home against his former club. It was the 21-year-old’s fourth Chelsea penalty in four attempts.

"Very strange the first time I have played against City," Palmer told Sky Sports. "I have the upmost respect for the club I spent 15 years at and it is nice to see some friends."

Scorer Rodri said his side were exhausted.

"The level of the Chelsea team has risen and it was not our best performance today. Individually we needed to do a bit more ourselves - to concede four goals is not normal for us," he told Sky.

The result moved City clear of Liverpool with 28 points from 12 games. Chelsea, who have shown stuttering form this season, move up a place to 10th on 16 points.
