"He was striking it unbelievably well," Brook said of Livingstone. "We all know what he's capable of doing at the back end (of an innings)."

Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh put on 68 in the first nine overs of Australia's reply before the innings subsided as Brydon Carse (3-36) and Jofra Archer (2-33) did the bulk of the early damage in helpful conditions under the floodlights.

"I'm relieved, for sure," he told reporters. "It's nice to get that first hundred on the board and hopefully there's plenty more to come."

"I think people took that a little bit the wrong way," he said. "You've got to go out and play fearlessly and almost have that 'who cares?' attitude but that's not a 'who cares if we lose?' attitude. We all want to win, but you don't want to go out and have that fear of getting out.&nbsp;

"You've seen it so many times in the Test environment, at the start Stokesy (England red-ball captain Ben Stokes) was getting out caught at mid-on which is unheard of before, so you've got to go out with that fearless attitude and try to take it to the bowlers."

Australia coach Andrew McDonald was left to rue the absence of key spinner Adam Zampa, a late withdrawal through illness, as England ended his side's run of 14 consecutive ODI wins.

McDonald had no doubt about Brook's quality, saying: "Full credit to Harry. He's an impressive player and he's going to have a long career for England.

"Two new balls in one-day cricket is probably the worst thing that can happen to ODI cricket. Imagine how many finger spinners play one-day cricket. There’s Nathan Lyon who’s got 400 wickets, there’s R Ashwin who’s got 400 wickets, and they are not a part of the One Day team, and the only reason is that there is nothing for a finger spinner," Gambhir said on the podcast 180 Not Out.

Gambhir also pointed out the absence of reverse swing from the game due to the introduction of the said rule. With two balls at either end, the conditions do not favour reverse swing which used to be&nbsp;a potent weapon for bowlers at the death prior to the rule change.&nbsp;

"Reverse swing... It has gone out of the game completely. I want to see reverse swing, I want to see batters getting challenged, and someone bowling at 150 and reversing the ball is always a challenge," said Gambhir.&nbsp;

"One rule that needs to change is getting rid of two new balls and having only one."

Stoinis said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, "I had a few conversations with (Australia head coach) Andrew McDonald over the last sort of four to six months. Spoke to George (Bailey) as well. In terms of selections, in terms of the fact that (Aaron) Hardie's coming in (who was picked as the second all-rounder to Cameron Green for the WI ODIs), I think that's brilliant. I think it makes complete sense after a World Cup. There needs to be a balance between keeping a core, and bringing new guys in. The next tournament that they're looking forward to is the Champions Trophy, which is 18 months away."

"I've got no intention of retiring from international cricket or anything like that. I think it makes complete sense. He's [Hardie] been playing brilliantly. He also needs to be exposed in international cricket which I think he's ready for. Currently, Stoinis&nbsp;is representing the Melbourne Stars, who are on the verge of qualifying for the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 edition.&nbsp;Notably, Stars have two more home and away games, on Jan&nbsp;13 and 15, to qualify for the finals which will be played from Jan&nbsp;19-24.

On the other hand, Durban's Super Giants kickoff&nbsp;their run in the SA20 season on Jan 12 (Friday). Thus, Stoinis could be available for as many as seven games for Durban if Stars fail to make it to the&nbsp;finals&nbsp;or as few as four if they reach the BBL decider (slated to be held on Jan 24).

Nonetheless, Stoinis is set to take part in the SA20 and, hence, is hopeful of making it to Australia's T20I squad for the WI series, which commences on&nbsp;Feb&nbsp;9. In this scenario, he would not be part of the SA20 finals, from Feb 7-11, if Durban reaches that far.

"I've got every intention to play T20 cricket for Australia as long as I can, as long as they want me. I feel like my international and T20 [franchise] cricket has been good over the last whatever period. On Australia’s chances of topping India in a rather unlikely event, given how good a form the hosts are in, Chappell said the Aussies need to find something extra special from within themselves if they were to walk out as winners.&nbsp;

"It will be up to this highly cohesive Australian team to find something really extra-special from within themselves, if they are to make it their sixth win in eight World Cup finals -- a phenomenal record," Chappell said.

Be it for the schedule, the emergence of the shorter format, or people's inclination towards watching a fast-paced, result-oriented form of the game, 50 overs cricket looks likely to face its worst fear. Days away from the start of the Cricket World Cup in India, Marylebone Cricket Club's (MCC) new incoming president, Mark Nicholas, feels the supernatural growth of the T20 format will curb ODI's sustainability in times to come.&nbsp;

Succeeding Stephen Fry as president of cricket's oldest and most prestigious members' club, Mark Nicholas echoes the same views as those of MCC's World Cricket Committee's members, who met in July to call for ODI cricket to cut down outside the World Cup years.

Speaking with ESPNcricinfo, Mark said considering fans' keen interest in watching T20 cricket due to its fast nature and how bilateral cricket is fading away with each passing series, ODIs should get reduced during the World Cup period only following this edition.

"We believe strongly that ODIs should be World Cups only. We think it's difficult bilaterally now to justify them. They're not filling grounds in a lot of countries. And there is a power at the moment to T20 cricket that is almost supernatural," Nicholas told ESPNcricinfo.

"In a free market, the most money wins. And that's just the end game. The players can see that bubbling away, and they want to be a part of it. So, it is an extraordinary power that T20 has, and I think scheduling 50-over cricket alongside it just continues the story of the death knell of the ODI game," Mark added.

Even in the lead-up to the World Cup, several first-team players from a few countries announced their decision to retire from the ODIs following the mega event, mainly to pursue their careers in franchise-based T20 leagues. Quinton de Kock from South Africa and Naveen-ul-Haq from Afghanistan are among those.

Meanwhile, Cricket World Cup 2023 will get underway on Thursday (Oct 5), with the opener to be played between New Zealand and England in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

The reason we start talking about this is because each IPL team is looking for a bigger footprint in the game. It might not be financially beneficial for them to be doing that, but they are looking at the long-term benefit of having a greater stake of the time in the calendar year," Moody told ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, the ODI World Cup winner - Shastri opines that cricket is going the football way, and in times to come, players will get involved in franchise cricket throughout the year; and it would just be around the World Cup time when teams will release players, and they would assemble to play a few bilateral games.

Adding to this, Shastri said though he doesn’t feel bad about this change coming cricket’s way, he thinks in between all of this, the 50-over format is going to suffer the most. 
Moody, while backing the claim, said the T10 format – which is still very new among a lot of fans, mostly the traditional ones could replace the 50-over format in times to come. He also said that only a handful of teams will continue to play Tests, with others trying to succeed in the shorter formats.

"That really tells me that there are only going to be few countries that are going to be playing Test cricket, as simple as that," Moody said. "Rest are going to focus on white-ball cricket, and I will add another format that may replace the 50-over cricket, and that may be T10. I see that as a potential, not a game-changer, but a movement towards the next step ahead for the IPL to consider if they want to expand what is an incredibly successful property," Moody further added.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has once again urged the decision makers to work on the revival of ODIs - the format he feels is getting held back because of lack of balance between the bat and ball. Master Blaster Sachin, who will turn 50 on April 24th, has lamented the lack of advantages for bowlers as the reason for slow-death of One-Dayers.

As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Sachin, while interacting with a few journalists, said considering all formats are very different, ODI still needs to be worked upon first, just for it longegivity. Sachin added with the ODIs favouring batters too much, this format is not exciting as it used to be.

"I feel all three formats are completely different. Somewhere I do feel [that in the] one-day format, people need to have a look at it closely," Sachin told journalists. "I feel there is an imbalance between the bat and the ball. It is too much in favour of the batters at this point."

The Indian legend is not a fan of two new balls in ODIs as he feels it kills the chance of reverse swing or the discolouration of the ball - something that used to work in bowler's favour back in the day. Explaining this, Sachin said the batters used top find it hard to pick the ball due to same reasons, which was a challenge in itself.

The former right-handed batter added such little elements are missing from the game, and because of which, the bowlers suffer in the end.&nbsp;

"With two new balls, even in the 25th over, the ball is literally 12 or 13 overs old. There is no such thing as reverse swing, or the discolouration of the ball, or the ball becoming soft. These factors really put a lot of pressure on the bowling side. There were challenges [for batters] where one did not pick the ball because of the discolouration. That was an advantage for a bowler.

"And with field restrictions, we need to balance that out. Give some advantage to the bowlers as well. I find that element missing in ODI cricket right now," Sachin added.

Other than in batting, Sachin achieved some milestones as a bowler too, and feels because of this rule of having five fielders inside the ring between 11-40th over, the spinners, in general, have gone defensive with their lines; as a result, they are unable to create the difference.

"If an offspinner is bowling, he is forced to bowl a middle-stump line. Because you either have to have your deep point in the ring or you need to bring in the long-off because on the on side, you have three fielders in the deep and here you can have only one fielder in the deep.

"So they cannot deceive a batter by getting him to play a cover drive. The overall opinion is that 'we have to kind of settle for a defensive line'. I would say that some adjustments need to be made," Sachin suggested.

“It's getting monotonous without any doubt. There are two parts. One is the current format and the next is which I feel it should be played. Let me talk about the current format which has been there for a while now. When you have two new balls, it eliminated reverse swing. Even though we are in the 40th over of the game, it's actually the 20th over of that ball," Sachin Tendulkar said. "But I think it only starts reversing around the 30th over or so.”
