Israel too has conceded that it was caught off guard by the attack that coincided with the Jewish Sabbath and another religious holiday.

Reportedly, Hamas set up a mock Israeli settlement in Gaza to train its fighters. The Hamas operatives used this to practice a military landing and storm the mock settlement. As per the Hamas source, they even made videos of the manoeuvres.&nbsp;

"Israel surely saw them, but they were convinced that Hamas wasn't keen on getting into a confrontation," said the source, adding, "Hamas was able to build a whole image that it was not ready for a military adventure against Israel."

In the last couple of days, after Hamas stormed into Israel towns, 700 Israelis have been killed and dozens of others have been abducted. In retaliation, Israel has killed more than 400 Palestinians in its attack on Gaza.

"The suspect was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. This is an open and active investigation," said the spokesperson.

Winters also disclosed that the police were coordinating with investigators from the US State Department.

"There's very little information that we can give at this time."

In a statement, San Francisco's Chinese diplomatic post called it "a serious threat to the safety of the staff and people at the scene".

It said that an "unidentified person drove violently into the document hall of the consulate, posing a serious threat to the safety of the staff and people at the scene, and causing serious damage to the facilities and property of the consulate."

The advisory was issued after an earthquake near Torishima Island at 5:25 am JST on Monday (8:25 pm GMT, Sunday), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).&nbsp;

As per figures by the United States Geological Survey, the quake measured&nbsp;4.9 on the Richter scale.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, 280 kilometres (170 miles) south of Tokyo, Hachijojima island was hit by tsunami waves of height 60 centimetres (24 inches). Smaller tsunami waves of 40cm and 20 cm were recorded in the western Kochi prefecture and southern Miyazaki prefecture, respectively.

Seismologists from JMA, as per an AFP report, said there were no immediate reports of damage from the minor waves generated.

However, despite that, Tateyama city of Chiba, located near Tokyo, had urged residents in coastal areas to evacuate after the advisory.

During a press conference, JMA official Toshihiro Shimoyama warned that "it is dangerous in the sea and near the coast".

However, Albanese says he is hopeful. Talking to ABC, he said "I'm optimistic."&nbsp;

He said that "One choice will bring us pride and hope and belief in one another and the other will, I think, turn us backwards and bring shame to the country," he told Australian broadcaster ABC.

"'Yes' is a moral choice and 'no' would be a travesty for the country, and we will possibly never live it down."

Facing a moral choice: Australia votes on referendum on indigenous rights

A Chinese-born independent blogger has alleged that China had a hand in the killing of separatist leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.&nbsp;

Jennifer Zeng, as per reports, claims that agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were involved in the Canada killing and that China's "purpose was to frame India creating discord between India and the West".

Zeng as per ANI, also alleged that the killing was part of the CCP's sinister "Ignition Plan" to disrupt the world. This strategy reportedly is in line with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping's military strategy regarding Taiwan.

Dubbing the killing an assassination, the US-based journalist, rights activist, in a video posted on social media platform X, said, "Today shocking revelations about the 'assassination' of Sikh religious leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in Canada have emerged from within the CCP. It is alleged that the 'assassination' was carried out by CCP agents."

Zeng attributed the information to the Chinese writer and YouTuber Lao Deng, who she said lives in Canada now.

"Lao stated that in early June this year, as part of their disruption initiative 'Ignition Plan', the CCP Ministry of State Security sent a high-ranking official to Seattle, USA. A secret meeting was held there... The objective was to sabotage relations between India and the West," she claimed on X.

"The agents were tasked with assassinating Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the Sikh leader in Canada. Following the meeting, the CCP agents meticulously executed the killing plan," she added.

As per Zeng, on June 18, CCP agents "armed with silenced guns tracked Nijjar."

She alleged that once "the deed was done," the assassins "destroyed the dash camera in Nijjar's car to erase any evidence. After the crime, the agents fled, they burned their weapons and disguises to destroy all traces. The next day, they left Canada in airplanes."

<h2>Framing India</h2>

Zeng alleged that as part of Beijing's scheme to frame India, the CCP agents learned Indian-accent English.&nbsp;

"They purposely spoke in Indian accent English... In fact, these actions were part of the scheme by CCP secret agent to frame India."

<h2>The Nijjar killing and Canada-India ties</h2>

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canada-based pro-Khalistan leader, was killed on Canadian soil on 18 June 2023. Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India, was shot and killed in the parking lot of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia.

Following the killing, relations between India and Canada have soured significantly, with the Canadian government expelling a senior Indian diplomat and accusing New Delhi of playing a role in the killing.

India was quick to outrightly reject the claims, calling them 'absurd' and 'motivated'. The nation then retaliated by expelling a senior Canadian diplomat.

A secret meeting was held there... The objective was to sabotage relations between India and the West," she claimed on X. Hearing this, "leaning," towards the Australian billionaire, an excited Trump revealed "the supposed exact number of nuclear warheads [US submarines] routinely carry, and exactly how close they supposedly can get to a Russian submarine without being detected."

Pratt would go on to discuss this with at least 45 others,&nbsp;including 11 of his company's employees, 10 Australian officials, six journalists, and three former Australian prime ministers, reports ABC News, citing sources.

Quoting sources, the Times reports that Trump's disclosures "potentially endangered the US nuclear fleet."

As per reports, federal prosecutors, already looking into Trump over the classified material found at Mar-a-Lago after he left office, have interviewed Pratt twice about the incident.

The 14th Dalai Lama, as per a press statement released on Wednesday (Oct 4th), expressed his grief over the loss of life and widespread damage to property.

A letter to Prem Singh Tamang, Chief Minister of Sikkim, read, "His Holiness the Dalai Lama expressed his sadness about the loss of life and widespread damage to property that has occurred in Sikkim as a result of the flash flood that took place in the Teesta River Valley last night."

"I offer my condolences to families who have lost loved ones…as well as others affected by this disaster, and pray for their welfare," wrote the Tibetan spiritual leader.

He also said that as a mark of his solidarity with the affected people, he has instructed the Dalai Lama Trust to extend financial aid towards relief and rescue efforts.

<h2>Latest toll</h2>

As per ANI, all the 14 people who lost their lives in the calamity were civilians. At least 102 people are missing, and over 3,000 are believed to be stranded. Around 12 to 14 workers who were working on the Teesta Stage 3 dam in Chungthang are among the missing.

Missing people have been reported from Chungthang in Mangan district, Dikchu, Singtam in Gangtok district and Rangpo in Pakyong district.

"There are 12–14 workers still stranded in the tunnels of the dam. Collectively, across the State, 26 people have been reportedly injured and rushed to the hospitals. While 23 Army personnel in Bardang are still missing. They had a convoy vehicle which was parked adjacent to the highway which got submerged in the sludge," Sikkim Chief Secretary VB Pathak told media.

<h2>What happened in Sikkim?</h2>

As per Pathak, on Tuesday night (Oct 3rd), Sikkim's Lhonak Lake "received a cloudburst around 10:42 pm."

"Thereafter, the lake breached its embankment and made its course towards the Teesta River. Soon different parts of the Teesta basin reported a rise in water, with particularly alarming levels in Chungthang where the Teesta Stage 3 dam was breached," he added.

One platoon of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is already engaged in rescue efforts. The state government has requested three extra platoons. The request has been approved by the Indian central government.

<h2>"High illegal entry"</h2>

On Thursday, US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in a notice in the US Federal Register said that there was "an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries."&nbsp;

The new section of the Mexico wall, as per AFP, will be built in the Rio Grande Valley Sector of the US-Mexico border, which is a "high illegal entry" area, said Mayorkas. The Rio Grande Valley Sector, as per the US Homeland Security Secretary, has been the location of more than 245,000 illegal entrants this fiscal year.

<h2>Biden's stand on the wall</h2>

The day he took office in January 2021, Biden announced, "no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall".

He also said there would be a review of all the resources that had already been committed.

He had proclaimed: "Building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution."

After 'quietly' announcing the plans for the new addition to the pre-existing wall,&nbsp;Mayorkas said there was "no new Administration policy with respect to border walls. From day one, this Administration has made clear that a border wall is not the answer."

He added that the "additional physical barriers" will be funded for using an appropriation made by Congress for the purpose of this wall back in 2019 when Trump was still in office.

"We have repeatedly asked Congress to rescind this money, but it has not done so, and we are compelled to follow the law," he said.

For the move to go through and the border wall to be extended, some two dozen federal laws such as the Clean Air Act and Endangered Species Act would need to be waived.

Back in May of this year, when the Title 42 law expired, the Biden administration also introduced tough new rule that requires migrants to make an appointment on a government-run smartphone app before approaching a legal port of entry.

Those going against the rule face a tougher bar for asylum if they cross the border illegally.

<h2>Trump claims victory</h2>

The Mexico border wall was former president Trump's signature policy. His first political campaign for president was known for its rally chant, "Build That Wall."

On Thursday, after the Biden administration's plans were announced, Trump was quick to claim victory and demand an apology.

Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, he said: "As I have stated often, over thousands of years, there are only two things that have consistently worked, wheels and walls!"&nbsp;

He also said that the Biden administration showed "I was right when I built 560 miles... of brand new, beautiful border wall."

"Will Joe Biden apologise to me and America for taking so long to get moving, and allowing our country to be flooded with 15 million illegals immigrants, from places unknown," he asked.

On Thursday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams began a trip to Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador, where he will tell would-be migrants that his city cannot accommodate them and that local shelter systems are overwhelmed, reported Reuters.

As per the Washington-based Migration Policy Institute, around 11 million immigrants have entered the US without legal documentation.

These include hundreds and thousands of Venezuelans fleeing economic and political turmoil at home.

To enter the US, they trek through a treacherous jungle region between Colombia and Panama known as the Darien Gap.

This high number of migrants has strained US cities at the border and further north, reports Reuters.

As per the US Department of Justice, there are around two million claims by illegal immigrants looking to extend their stay in the US pending in the immigration court.

As per reports, there are 11 known incidents of Commander biting the White House staff, including Secret Service agents. However, as per a CNN report from Wednesday (Oct 4), there were several more incidents that went unreported.

The most recent reported incident is from last month when the canine bit a Secret Service agent on White House Grounds.

There were 10 more similar incidents of the German Shepherd biting people between October 2022 and January 2023.

This information was uncovered by the Conservative legal activist group Judicial Watch, which obtained reports of incidents where Commander terrorised staff.&nbsp;

As per Internal Secret Service communications, as reported by the New York Post, on 3 November 2022, an officer landed in hospital after being bitten on the thigh and arm. The agent was referred to the hospital by the White House physician's office.

Daily Mail on Wednesday (Oct 4) published pictures of Commander allegedly biting White House grounds superintendent Dale Haney. The photos from a week ago were clicked by a tourist visiting the White House grounds.

The White House superintendent, as per an Axios, has denied reports that he was bitten by Commander.&nbsp;

On this, Elizabeth Alexander said: "We spoke to Dale about the picture, and he said that Commander was being playful, and there was no bite, no pressure of teeth on his skin, no mark — just some dog slobber."

"Our understanding is death caused by hypoxia due to a system fault on the submarine. The submarine hit a chain and anchor obstacle used by the Chinese Navy to trap US and allied submarines."

"This resulted in systems failures that took six hours to repair and surface the vessel. The onboard oxygen system poisoned the crew after a catastrophic failure," it adds.

<h2>China denies incident</h2>

Beijing, as per Daily Mail, has denied that such an incident took place. The nation has dismissed speculation as "completely false."&nbsp;Taiwan has also refuted internet reports.

However, the highly classified UK report insists that it happened.

Talking to the Daily Mail, a British submariner speculated: "It is plausible that this occurred and I doubt the Chinese would have asked for international support for obvious reasons."

"The risk assessment will be country agnostic, but we will take into account geopolitical factors to determine how severe those risks are," an EU official said.

The four technologies were chosen because they are considered highly likely to pose the most immediate risks.

A dust devil is a dust tornado, similar to the tornadoes we see on Earth. Generally, Martian tornadoes are smaller than the one we see on our planet.

However, the one recently captured by NASA, as per calculations based on the tornado's shadow, was about two&nbsp;kilometres (1.2 miles) in height — much taller than the average tornado the US experiences every year, and about five times the height of the US Empire State Building.

Mark Lemmon, a planetary scientist at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado, said: "We don't see the top of the dust devil, but the shadow it throws gives us a good indication of its height"

Lemmon, who is a member of the Perseverance science team, said, "Most are vertical columns. If this dust devil were configured that way, its shadow would indicate it is about 1.2 miles (2 kilometres) in height.”

The rover spotted the dust devil on a location nicknamed "Thorofare Ridge." It was about four kilometres or 2.5 miles away from the Perseverance Rover and was moving at a speed of about 19 kilometres per hour or 12mph.

As per estimates, its width was about 200 feet (or 60 metres).

A two-kilometre-tall 'dust devil' has been caught on camera, but not on Earth

In an explosive court testimony, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Monday (Oct 2) said that rival tech giant Google's dominance of the search engine market gives it an unfair advantage over rivals.

The Microsoft CEO was speaking during a tense cross-examination by a Google lawyer in the midst of a trial, where lawyers from the US Department of Justice are attempting to persuade a federal judge to rule on Google's antitrust actions.

He also slammed Apple, recalling Microsoft's willingness to pay the iPhone maker to get Bing the 'default status' on the phone. Microsoft was even ready&nbsp;to hide its search engine's brand on Apple Inc handsets, he said.

<h2>'Dominant' Google</h2>

Hitting out sharply at the business practices of his arch rival company, Nadella said Google has made it very hard for rivals to emerge.

Addressing a courtroom in Washington, DC, he said, "you can call it popular, but to me it's dominant."&nbsp;

<h2>Bing's fight for a market share</h2>

As per AFP, Microsoft's Bing has been trying since 2009 to build market share against Google. However, Nadella blamed the company's failure on&nbsp;Google.

He said Bing could never compete against the search engine behemoth.

Nadella backed the US Government's contention that Google's dominance of the search engine market fuels its intake of data, which creates a 'network effect' that further fortifies Google's prominence as a more powerful tool to advertisers and users.

He said: "It becomes even harder to break through when you don't have (market) share."

<h2>What is Google antitrust trial?</h2>

The US and its state allies contend that Google has unfairly forged its position as the world's pre-eminent search engine.

They allege that Google's domination of online search is a result of exclusivity contracts the tech titan signed with device makers, mobile operators and other companies. These contracts allegedly involved making Google the default search engine on most phones and web browsers.

This, in turn, helped Google parent firm Alphabet to be one of the richest companies on the planet. As per government estimates, Google has grabbed a 90 per cent of the market share in search in recent years.

The three-month trial, as per AFP, is the biggest US antitrust case against a big tech company since the US Department of Justice took on Microsoft more than two decades ago over the dominance of its Windows operating system.

He also slammed Apple, recalling Microsoft's willingness to pay the iPhone maker to get Bing the 'default status' on the phone. Microsoft was even ready to hide its search engine's brand on Apple Inc handsets, he said. Nadella backed the US Government's contention that Google's dominance of the search engine market fuels its intake of data, which creates a 'network effect' that further fortifies Google's prominence as a more powerful tool to advertisers and users. He said: "It becomes even harder to break through when you don't have (market) share." What is Google antitrust trial? The US and its state allies contend that Google has unfairly forged its position as the world's pre-eminent search engine. They allege that Google's domination of online search is a result of exclusivity contracts the tech titan signed with device makers, mobile operators and other companies. These contracts allegedly involved making Google the default search engine on most phones and web browsers. The Malaysian department earlier had said that a regional meteorological agency identified nearly 250 "hotspots," that were indicative of fires on Sumatra and Borneo islands in Indonesia. However, none were detected within Malaysia.

<h2>Burning throat and other health risks</h2>

Almost every dry season, thick smoke blankets the skies over the region, posing health risks and concerns for the tourism and aviation industries.

Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar, director of the Department of Environment in Malaysia recently, in a statement, reported a decline in air quality, particularly in the western part of Peninsular Malaysia. He said that in total, 11 areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings.

Furthermore, schools and kindergartens will be required to stop all outdoor activities when API readings reach 100. They will be closed when the API reaches 200.

Environmental organisation Greenpeace has called on countries in the region to enact legislation to hold plantation companies accountable for causing air pollution.&nbsp;

Heng Kiah Chun, regional campaign strategist for Greenpeace Southeast Asia, emphasised the need for a domestic transboundary haze act and said that enabling it "is necessary to act as a deterrent, especially as there are bad apples in the industry."

The democrat, as per a BBC report, was parking his vehicle about a mile or 1.5 kilometre away from the US Capitol, when three armed men stole his car.&nbsp;

Confirming the theft, Cuellar's Chief of Staff, Jacob Hochberg told AFP that "Three armed assailants approached the Congressman and stole his vehicle" as he was parking. The incident happened around 1:30 GMT (21:30 local time) in Washington's Navy Yard neighbourhood.

Recently, the United States capital has seen a steep rise in the number of carjacking cases. As per the city's police department, so far this year, 750 offences have been reported. BBC reports that&nbsp;75 per cent of these offences involved guns.

This, as per news agency AFP, is almost double the number of car-jackings recorded during the same period last year in the national capital Washington.

Hamlin punched Craig in her neck and grabbed her by the collarbone. The Congresswoman escaped by throwing hot coffee at her attacker.

They initially sent the letter on July 10.

However, unsatisfied with the Pope's initial response, the five cardinals reworded their dubia and, citing "the gravity of the matter" sent it again on August 21.

Dubia is Latin for doubt and is an official request to a sitting pontiff. It seeks a simple "yes" or "no" response on disputed matters of Catholic teaching, practice and the running of the Church. &nbsp;&nbsp;

'Help from God'

"When you ask for a blessing, you are expressing a request for help from God, a prayer to be able to live better, a trust in a father who can help us live better," said the Pope in a letter released by the Vatican.

In the letter dated September 25, he also said that clergy must show "pastoral prudence, must adequately discern if there are forms of blessing requested by one or various people, which do not convey a wrong concept of marriage."&nbsp;

"We cannot be judges who only deny, reject, and exclude," he said.

However, he maintained that the&nbsp;Church still considered same-sex relationships "objectively sinful" and that same-sex marriages wouldn't be recognised.
