Netflix&nbsp;Inc said it would make a deeper dive into video games as the movie and TV streaming service projected weak subscriber growth amid growing competition and the lifting of pandemic restrictions that had kept people at home.

The company's shares hovered about even at $531.10 in after-hours trading on Tuesday.

Netflix&nbsp;is weathering a sharp slowdown in new customers after a boom in 2020 fueled by stay-at-home orders to curb the COVID-19 pandemic. In the United States and Canada,&nbsp;Netflix&nbsp;reported losing about 430,000 subscribers in the second quarter, only its third quarterly decline in 10 years.

The streaming video pioneer said it was in the early stages of expanding its video game offerings, which would be available to subscribers at no extra charge. The company will initially focus primarily on mobile games.

"We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV," the company said in its quarterly letter to shareholders.

The multi-year effort will start "relatively small" with games tied to&nbsp;Netflix&nbsp;hits, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Product Officer Greg Peters said in a post-earnings video interview.

Netflix&nbsp;has dabbled in video games with a few titles linked to series including "Stranger Things" and "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance."

Some analysts have said the company that dominates streaming video needs to find new ways to jump-start subscriptions after years of rapid expansion. According to eMarketer,&nbsp;Netflix's share of U.S. revenue from subscription streaming video will shrink to 30.8% by the end of 2021, from nearly 50% in 2018.

"Netflix&nbsp;delivered another underwhelming quarter as competition in the streaming space heats up," said Investing.com senior analyst Jesse Cohen. "The absence of any new looming growth catalysts has been one of the main reasons for&nbsp;Netflix’s relatively mild performance this year."

Co-CEO Reed Hastings said gaming and other ventures such as podcasts and merchandise sales will be "supporting elements" to help attract and retain customers to its core business of streaming video.

The company projected it would add 3.5 million customers from July through September. Wall Street had expected a forecast of 5.5 million, according to analysts surveyed by Refinitiv.

For the just-ended quarter,&nbsp;Netflix&nbsp;added 1.54 million customers, beating analyst projections of 1.04 million. Total subscribers numbered 209 million at the end of June.

A year ago,&nbsp;Netflix&nbsp;picked up 10.1 million subscribers in the second quarter.

This year,&nbsp;Netflix&nbsp;felt the impact of COVID-19 on TV production, which left the company with a small menu of new titles. At the same time, Walt Disney Co's Disney+, AT&amp;T Inc's HBO Max and other services attracted customers, and summer blockbusters returned to movie theatres.

The easing of pandemic safety measures also lured people out of their homes and away from their televisions.

Earnings for April through June came in at $2.97 per share, below the average forecast of $3.16.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions has set up another project at Netflix.&nbsp;

This time, it’s an animated series created by Meghan Markle. Called ‘Pearl’, it is a family-focused animated series that revolves around the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by influential women in history. The series is currently in the development stages.

In addition to a creator credit, Meghan Markle will also executive produce alongside David Furnish (Rocketman), Carolyn Soper (Tangled) and Emmy-winning filmmakers Liz Garbus (I’ll Be Gone in the Dark) and Dan Cogan (Icarus). Amanda Rynda (The Loud House) is on board as showrunner and EP.

On the project, Meghan Markle said, “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges. &nbsp;I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history. David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.”

‘Pearl’ is the second project for Archewell as part of the company’s overall deal with Netflix. Under the brokered deal, the British Royals are also working on ‘Heart of Invictus’, a docuseries produced with the Invictus Games Foundation to follow competitors from the rescheduled Invictus Games The Hague in 2022.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions has set up another project at Netflix. This time, it’s an animated series created by Meghan Markle. Called ‘Pearl’, it is a family-focused animated series that revolves around the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by influential women in history. The series is currently in the development stages. In addition to a creator credit, Meghan Markle will also executive produce alongside David Furnish (Rocketman), Carolyn Soper (Tangled) and Emmy-winning filmmakers Liz Garbus (I’ll Be Gone in the Dark) and Dan Cogan (Icarus). Amanda Rynda (The Loud House) is on board as showrunner and EP. On the project, Meghan Markle said, “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges. I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history. David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.” ‘Pearl’ is the second project for Archewell as part of the company’s overall deal with Netflix. Under the brokered deal, the British Royals are also working on ‘Heart of Invictus’, a docuseries produced with the Invictus Games Foundation to follow competitors from the rescheduled Invictus Games The Hague in 2022.

Fans have been waiting with baited breath for season 2 ever since Netflix announced its decision to renew the show after a successful Season 1. Now while speaking to E! News, the creator teaser a 'magnetic' forthcoming season, promising crackling chemistry between the lead actors.&nbsp; 
 
The second season will have Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) meeting his match in Kate Sharma, played by newcomer Simone Ashley. 
 
"I can tell you I just got into the editing bay on the first couple episodes in the second season, and I don`t think people are going to be ready," Dusen teased. 
 
Dusen added, "I think, honestly, it`s everything I think audiences loved so much about the first season, but just more. I think we`re going to be back with an even greater escape to 19th century Regency London." Dusen described Bailey and Ashley`s chemistry as "magnetic."&nbsp; 
 
"You cannot take your eyes off of them when they`re together on screen. I can`t wait for audiences to see that, or really, to feel that. I`m really excited," he said. After Netflix dropped the dramatic teaser on social media to inform the series is coming back with new charcters and fresh twist plots, people on the internet literally started the countdown even before the release date was revealed (July 15, if you are asking). We did a little digging of our own and compiled a bunch of character arches and plot twists that fans of the show would give their kidneys to see. Read on! 
 
DEVI’S KINDER: Given, she is the anchor of the show and nothing would have moved forward without her presence. Yes, Devi is raw and real and she throws tantrums and snaps at the drop of a hat like any teenager would. But, for once, it would be nice to see her being kind to people. Just once, and the sass can stay.

It is sickening to see the bullies getting away with their meanness in the name of being cool—a common trope of ever teen saga ever, but still—and hold them accountable for their sheer arrogance for being—what?—young. Devi needs to go easy on her friends, her friends need to go easy on being needy and readily available. With an Indian central cast, and a story that’s so Indian at heart, it would be criminal and almost inappropriate to see them go their separate ways after all that they have been through.&nbsp;

He added that the crisis had helped platforms like Netflix score a "deserved victory", but left the rest of the cinema industry with little means of fighting back. 
 
Netflix and rivals like Amazon have become a formidable force in the movie world, and now enlist top directors, including Martin Scorsese, to make films that have only limited runs in cinemas. 
 
Unlike Cannes, some other film festivals, including Venice, have included films made by streaming giants in their main competition lineups without imposing such stringent demands. 
 
Before the pandemic, "Roma", a Netflix film directed by Alfonso Cuaron, won the top award at the Venice Film Festival in 2018.

Netflix Inc has removed Australian spy drama 'Pine Gap' from its services in Vietnam after a complaint from broadcast authorities in the Southeast Asian country about the appearance of a map which depicts Chinese claims in the South China Sea. 
 
The map, which briefly features on the screens of a control room at a spy base in two episodes of the six-part show, depicts China`s unilaterally declared "nine-dash line" and is displayed within the context of maritime claims in the region. 
 
"Netflix`s violations angered and hurt the feelings of the entire people of Vietnam," the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information said in a statement on its website. 
 
"This is the third time in a row in the last 12 months that Netflix has been found to distribute movies and TV shows containing content which violate Vietnam`s sovereignty," said the statement, which was dated July 1. 
 
The 'nine-dash line' is a U-shaped feature used on Chinese maps to illustrate its disputed claims over vast expanses of the resource-rich South China Sea, including large swathes of what Vietnam regards as its continental shelf, where it has awarded oil concessions. 
 
Chinese and Vietnamese ships have in recent years been embroiled in months-long standoffs in the disputed waterways. 
 
Netflix confirmed it had removed the show in Vietnam but said it remained available on the service in the rest of the world. 
 
"Following a written legal demand from the Vietnamese regulator, we have removed the licensed series, Pine Gap, from Netflix in Vietnam, to comply with local law," a Netflix spokesperson said.

'Game of Thrones' star Sophie Turner is set to have a cameo role in the upcoming Netflix film 'Strangers', directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Turner will take on a small part in the Hitchock-ian dark comedy, reported Deadline.

She joins previously announced cast members Camila Mendes ('Riverdale') and Maya Hawke ('Stranger Things'). 'Strangers' follows Drew and Eleanor who, after a clandestine meet-cute, team up to go after each other's bullies.

Robinson, who has penned 'Thor: Love and Thunder', co-wrote 'Strangers' with Celeste Ballard. She will also produce the movie with Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron for Likely Story under their overall deal with Netflix.

Turner was recently cast in HBO Max's true crime limited drama series 'The Staircase' and will also voice Princess Charlotte, daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, in 'The Prince', the animated sitcom for the streaming platform.&nbsp;

This will be the biggest so far as previously, seasons one and two featured six episodes while three and four had five episodes each. Season four meanwhile aired in October.&nbsp;
