Bollywood's legendary actress Waheeda Rehman has been named as the recipient of the 2021 Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The news was announced by Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, on X Tuesday. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is given by the Indian government to cine artists for their lifetime contribution to cinema.&nbsp; 
 
Waheeda Rehman is one of Hindi cinema's most renowned leading ladies who has worked in classics like Guide, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Pyaasa, and Chaudhvin Ka Chaand. Her accolades include the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. She also won a National Award for her work in Reshma Aur Shera.&nbsp; 
 
In a post on X, Anurag Thakur wrote: "I feel an immense sense of happiness and honour in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema. Waheeda ji has been critically acclaimed for her roles in Hindi films, prominent among them, Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi and several others."

Vicky Kaushal is grateful that his critically acclaimed film Sardar Udham&nbsp;bagged five awards at the National Film Awards. The awards were announced today, i.e., August 24, in New Delhi, India. The biographical film is directed by ace filmmaker Shoojit Sircar.

The movie has won five national awards: Best Hindi Film, Best Costume Design, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Audiography (Re-recording) Final Mixing.

Director Shoojit Sircar&nbsp;also reacted to the film's big win, dedicating the&nbsp;feat to late actor Irrfan Khan. In a statement to the Indian Express, Sircar&nbsp;said: "I didn’t expect five awards but I think it’s quite humbling actually and I am feeling quite proud and it’s prestigious. On my behalf, my producer friend Ronnie’s (Ronnie Screwvala) behalf, Sheel Kumar, the entire crew, and also on Vicky’s (Vicky Kaushal) behalf I really want to dedicate this National Award to Irrfan Khan, as he was supposed to play Sardar Udham."

For the unversed, Irrfan Khan was set to play the role of the revolutionary Sardar Udham Singh. But after his death in April 2020, Vicky Kaushal was brought on board to play the titular role.

The period drama&nbsp;tells the story of a freedom fighter named Sardar Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer&nbsp;as&nbsp;revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. The film marked&nbsp;the first collaboration between Sircar and Vicky.

The film also features Shaun Scott, Stephen Hogan, Banita Sandhu, Kirsty Averton, and Amol Parashar.

Apart from Sardar Udham Singh, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's critically acclaimed 2022 film Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kriti Sanon's Mimi, Allu Arjun, and SS Rajamauli's RRR emerged as the big winners.

National Film Awards 2023 to be announced today. Here are the main contenders

A 10-member jury led by director-producer Vipul Shah met Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday morning to submit its report on the 68th National Film Awards. The awards are set to be announced this evening in the national capital in a ceremony, which is being held after a gap of two years because of the COVID pandemic.

Speaking about the awards to ANI, Thakur said, “I want to congratulate all the jury members and all those people whose work was reviewed and would like to congratulate those recipients who will be awarded with the National Film Awards. A word of appreciation for everyone who has done an outstanding job.”

He added, “I am glad that this year&nbsp;we will be holding the 68 National Film Awards since we could not hold the awards for two years because of COVID.”

Apart from chairperson Shah, the jury members include cinematographer Dharam Gulati, National award-winning fame Bengali actor Sreelekha Mukherjee, cinematographer GS Bhaskar, A Karthikraaja, VN Aditya, Viji Thampi, Sanjeev Rattan, S Thangadurai and Nishigandha.

Sources say that more than 295 films reached the elimination stage and the jury has finally reviewed 66 films in the feature section.

Producer-director Vipul Shah told ANI, “It has been heartening to see the kind of response that was received and the number of films that we got to see. And these were very difficult COVID times during which these films were either made or being made.”

Chitrartha Singh, who is heading the non-feature jury, stated, “We have been able to review close to 140 non-feature films including documentaries and it is amazing to see the kind of content that has come forth, especially from areas like the north-east.”

The Best Writing on Cinema category is chaired by journalist Anant Vijay.

As the 67th National Film Awards ceremony took place today in New Delhi after being delayed on several occasions last year because of the pandemic, the ceremony saw a flood of emotions as ‘Chhichhore’ film won best Hindi feature award.&nbsp;

Chhichhore director Nitesh Tiwari received the award and dedicated it to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and said that he “made us proud”.

While dedicating the National Award to the actor, Nitesh said, "Sushant is an integral part of our film. He made us proud. We are dedicating this award to him."&nbsp;

Last year when the awards were announced, the film's producer, Sajid Nadiadwala took to Instagram, “On the behalf of NGE I dedicate this extremely prestigious award to Sushant Singh Rajput. We can’t get over his loss ever but I sincerely pray that this award gives a little bit of happiness to his family and fans which includes me. And I am tremendously grateful to Nitesh Tiwari for giving us all this very special movie.”

Chhichhore was released on September 6, 2019, and marked Shraddha Kapoor and Sushant's first collaboration. The actor Sushant Singh Rajput died in&nbsp;June 2020. It was his last commercially successful and critically acclaimed film that crossed the Rs&nbsp;100-crore mark.

Rajinikanth to be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke award

Among the actors who were announced as winners for the 67th National Film Awards, child actor Naga Vishal deserves a special mention. Naga bagged the National Award for the Best Child Artist for Tamil drama 'KD Engira Karuppu Durai’ and he can’t stop being ecstatic about it.

Directed by Madhumita Sundararaman, this Yoodlee production revolves around the relationship between an 80-year-old man (Mu Ramaswamy) and an 8-year-old boy (Naga Vishal).&nbsp;

Happy with the National Award, Naga Vishal said, “This is a totally unexpected and overwhelming honour. The filming experience was so easy, and we were all one family on set. Madhumita Maam – my director – was like my elder sister. To get an honor like this at a national level is really something I wasn’t prepared for, and my family and friends are so happy and proud of me today.”

Meanwhile, film director Madhumita of 'KD Engira Karuppu Dura’ added, “To get this kind of recognition, especially from the government, means a lot to all of us. &nbsp;Sometimes I forget that he is a child, especially when he speaks about his responsibility towards betterment of his family. &nbsp;Nagavishal brought life to Kutty, and deserves all these accolades and more. His win is a win for each one of my crew and cast who worked hard for KD to be what it is today. We are all so overwhelmed by the love that the audience have shown our film. The National Film Awards winners are usually announced in the month of April every year. But due to Lok Sabha polls this year, it has been delayed. 
 
Established in 1954, the National Film Awards is the most prominent awards ceremony in India.&nbsp; 
 
The awards are administered along with the International Film Festival of India and Indian Panorama, by the Indian government`s Directorate of Film Festivals since 1972. 
 
For the national award, the winners are selected by an unbiased jury comprising of significant filmmakers and personalities.

The National Film Awards winners are usually announced in the month of April every year. But due to Lok Sabha polls this year, it has been delayed. Established in 1954, the National Film Awards is the most prominent awards ceremony in India. The awards are administered along with the International Film Festival of India and Indian Panorama, by the Indian government`s Directorate of Film Festivals since 1972. For the national award, the winners are selected by an unbiased jury comprising of significant filmmakers and personalities. The official ceremony of the 65th National Awards took place on May 3, where President Ram Nath Kovind handed over the awards to the respective winners.

As Janhvi Kapoor walked up on the stage along with father Boney Kapoor and sister Khushi to receive the Best Actress award for her mother Sridevi, she looked a reflection of her star-mother dressed in one of her Kanjeevaram sarees. In the letter, the awardees write about being informed about this change just “a day prior to the event” and “call it a breach of trust”. The letter states: “We are disheartened to know that we will be deprived of this honour of appreciation of a once in a lifetime moment of pride and glory that the National Film has offered us.”&nbsp;

The letter mentions that the awardees discussed the issue with the I&B Minister Smriti Irani but have failed to hear from her and wrote: “we feel dejected rather than honoured for our work.”

Reportedly, 11 winners will be given the awards by the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind as other awardees will be handed out the awards by the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Smriti Irani, Minister of State, I&B, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and I&B Secretary Narendra Kumar Sinha.&nbsp;

The award ceremony will begin from 3 pm.
