In the note, the rapper — who has remained relatively silent on social media since the release of his 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning album 'Damn' — reflected on his career as a musician and dropped clues about his final TDE album. Here's what we know about Lamar's fifth album so far.<br />
In a letter meant for fans, while reflecting on his time as an artiste and the impact he's had on pop culture, Lamar indicated that his fifth album will be a reflection of his personal ups and downs in the last 17 years in the music business.</p>

&nbsp;"I spend most of my days with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence. I go months without a phone. For those of you who didn’t know, the ‘Uptown Funk’ hitmaker formed a band in February this year along with former collaborator Anderson .Paak, who Mars has worked with during his 24K Magic Tour in 2017. The latter was his opening act.&nbsp;</p>

<strong>WION: To create the title track for ‘Toofaan’, an Amazon Prime Video film, made by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and featuring Frahan Akhtar—that must have been huge for you. How did all that come along?</strong></p>

<strong>D’Evil: </strong>An unexpected text came from <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/bollywood/news-toofan-review-farhan-akhtar%E2%80%99s-our-million-dollar-baby%E2%80%A6-not-398340">Farhan Akhtar</a>. When I called him he said that Ankur Tiwari is a singer/songwriter and music supervisor for the movie <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/gully-boy-review-ranveer-singh-alia-bhatts-film-has-multiple-heroes-197285">'Gully Boy'</a>. Had suggested my name for this project. I was very excited. I'm a huge fan of Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar. I grew up watching their films. This was a dream project for me. I immediately said 'yes'. &nbsp;</p>

<strong>WION: Your journey has been a fascinating one—from a chawl in Dadar to sharing the writing credits for ‘Apna Time Ayega’—how did you know that lyric poetry was your true calling in life?</strong></p>

<p><br />
<strong>D’Evil: </strong>I wanted to make music after being inspired by various artists globally and in my own country. Coming from a chawl in Mumbai, I was exposed to all types of music in different languages. This made me feel like I have something I like . So I tried writing some rhymes and some poem as a teenager. Later, when I was introduced to hip-hop. I saw that rapping is for someone like me. I enjoyed my discovery of rap and hip-hop.</p>

<strong>D’Evil:</strong> Hustler was something I was known as during the initial phase of my career as a rapper. I was a battle rapper. And would go by Hustler is also an adult magazine and I didn't wanna share my name with them. So my friend's suggested me to go with D'Evil.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<strong>WION: You are signed with DIVINE’s independent record and have worked with him a few times. What is the biggest lesson—both as a person and rapper—that you have been handed down by him?</strong></p>

<p><br />
<strong>D’Evil:</strong> <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/armaan-malik-divine-kaam-bhari-nominated-at-europe-music-awards-2020-333277">Vivian aka DIVINE</a> is an extraordinary personality. I have taken many lessons from him and his experiences. However my favourite one is that , you should always give back something from what you received. He taught me to share.</p>

It was a job where I used to get a salary. There is tons of content I wrote to make ends meet. &nbsp;</p>

<strong>WION: A number of people have made the transition from Mumbai’s underground scene to mainstream Bollywood. Does that ever scare you that your talent may get lost in the crowd?</strong></p>

<p><br />
<strong>D’Evil:</strong> If I'm scared of that, I cannot be a rapper. This fear and pressure is what makes me perform my best. And I want more competition because I love to prove myself again and again. People forget.</p>

<strong>WION: Although your track was fabulous, ‘Toofan’ didn’t do well in terms of reception. What do you say to that?</strong></p>

<p><br />
<strong>D’Evil:</strong> The pandemic has changed the way people consume cinema. But I'm sure <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/bollywood/news-rakeysh-omprakash-mehra-james-bond-daniel-craig-auditioned-for-rang-de-basanti-401475">this film will grow on people</a> slowly. After they realise what this film is trying to say.</p>

That was before an impressed Farhan Akhtar texted him to hop on the ‘Toofaan’ train. Rest is, as they say, history. In an exclusive chat with WION, the rapper discusses how an adult magazine had inspired his former moniker, when Farhan Akhtar showed up wearing the lyrics of his song to meet him, and why he feels there’s still hope for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s latest offering. Excerpts from that conversation: WION: To create the title track for ‘Toofaan’, an Amazon Prime Video film, made by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and featuring Frahan Akhtar—that must have been huge for you. How did all that come along? D’Evil: An unexpected text came from Farhan Akhtar. When I called him he said that Ankur Tiwari is a singer/songwriter and music supervisor for the movie 'Gully Boy'. Had suggested my name for this project. I was very excited. I'm a huge fan of Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar. I grew up watching their films. This was a dream project for me. I immediately said 'yes'. WION: Your journey has been a fascinating one—from a chawl in Dadar to sharing the writing credits for ‘Apna Time Ayega’—how did you know that lyric poetry was your true calling in life? D’Evil: I wanted to make music after being inspired by various artists globally and in my own country. Coming from a chawl in Mumbai, I was exposed to all types of music in different languages. This made me feel like I have something I like . So I tried writing some rhymes and some poem as a teenager. Later, when I was introduced to hip-hop. I saw that rapping is for someone like me. I enjoyed my discovery of rap and hip-hop. WION: Before being called D’Evil, you had another moniker: Hustler. What’s the story behind that? D’Evil: Hustler was something I was known as during the initial phase of my career as a rapper. I was a battle rapper. And would go by Hustler is also an adult magazine and I didn't wanna share my name with them. So my friend's suggested me to go with D'Evil. WION: You are signed with DIVINE’s independent record and have worked with him a few times. What is the biggest lesson—both as a person and rapper—that you have been handed down by him? D’Evil: Vivian aka DIVINE is an extraordinary personality. I have taken many lessons from him and his experiences. However my favourite one is that , you should always give back something from what you received. He taught me to share. WION: You are a scriptwriter, too. What are you working on? What have you written so far? Tell us more. D’Evil: I had a job as a script writer. I used to write scripts for TV commercials and small radio ad spots. Also I have written jingles and dialogues for small projects. It was a job where I used to get a salary. There is tons of content I wrote to make ends meet. WION: A number of people have made the transition from Mumbai’s underground scene to mainstream Bollywood. Does that ever scare you that your talent may get lost in the crowd? D’Evil: If I'm scared of that, I cannot be a rapper. This fear and pressure is what makes me perform my best. And I want more competition because I love to prove myself again and again. People forget. WION: Although your track was fabulous, ‘Toofan’ didn’t do well in terms of reception. What do you say to that? D’Evil: The pandemic has changed the way people consume cinema. But I'm sure this film will grow on people slowly. After they realise what this film is trying to say. WION: Any fun/candid moments you had shared with Farhan that you would like to share with us? Levy’s widow targeted at least $7.25 million from the sale of 10 songs, including ‘Hurricane’ but Dylan argued that the songs were written under a work-for-hire arrangement that only entitled him to royalties, specifically 35 percent of the licensing proceeds for the songs.</p>

New York Supreme Court Justice Barry Ostrager is with Dylan on this.</p>

“For the reasons explained here, the Court determines that the plain meaning of the 1975 Agreement is that the Dylan Defendants owned all copyrights to the Compositions, as well as the absolute right to sell the Compositions and all associated rights, subject only to plaintiffs’ right to receive the compensation specified in the 1975 Agreement, which does not include any portion of the proceeds from Dylan’s sale of his own rights to the Universal Defendants,” the judge reportedly wrote.</p>

Barry Ostrager pays attention to how Levy attempted to establish joint authorship in the compositions, including witnesses to the relationship between the songwriters and affidavits from experts, but ultimately the judge sees the contract as unambiguous and precluding such a claim.</p>

The judge also rejects the claim that Levy’s estate is a third-party beneficiary of the Universal agreement.</p>

<p>On July 25, American rapper DaBaby performed at the Rolling Loud Festival where he went on a homophobic rant where he asked his fans to turn on the flashlights of their phones if they “didn't show up today with HIV/AIDS or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in two to three weeks.” The 29 YO rapper went on to make several other objectionable statements about HIV/AIDS and the LGBTQ+ community.</p>

Following major backlash, DaBaby later issued a series of statements on Twitter, trying to recant his statements and making it about race. “Anybody who done ever been effected by AIDS/HIV y'all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. At that time, we had no idea that we would collaborate with a legend like Wiz Khalifa. We were just making the best possible music that we could out of our college dorm room. After our feature on Wiz Khalifa’s Rolling Papers 2, we met multiple major labels to discuss our career and to show them our unreleased music. ‘Naughty Or Nice’ was a standout track amongst all the label reviews! Since it was just THEMXXNLIGHT vocals at the time, they recommended that we hold off the release till we had a good enough global feature since they believed it was already a smash hit. After tons of studio sessions with Wiz Khalifa and after our performance at Sunburn India with him, we felt we had built up our relationship to the next level. One day, we randomly decided to play the song for him in the studio to get his initial feedback. He immediately stood up and started dancing and asked, “Ya’ll want a feature on this? Man, your vocals sound insane. I’ll hop on it right now.” About 30 minutes later, he completed his verse, and the engineer arranged the song. We must have played it back around 20 times! The vibes were amazing, and we just felt super proud of ourselves in that moment. Sledgren was also in the room as well, which made the moment even greater!”&nbsp;</p>

One night around 2am, after a college party, we both went back to our dorm room and talked about how confused we were about this girl’s intentions. This situation inspired the creation of “Naughty or Nice” and we recorded the song on the spot. No studio. No big set up. <p>DJ, major label executive and the son of former BET chief Debra Lee and Randy Coleman, Quinn Coleman is no more. The DJ died on Sunday at the age of 31.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The cause of his death is unknown. In a statement, a representative of Debra Lee said that Quinn was "a loving son, brother, cousin and friend, a passionate DJ and A&amp;R executive with a bright future ahead of him. Debra and her family are devastated by Quinn’s passing and ask for privacy and respect as they grieve together."</p>

<p>Soon after his death news spread, his colleagues took to social media to pay a tribute.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We are all devastated to learn of the untimely passing of our colleague and friend, Quinn Coleman," reads a statement from Capitol Records President Jeff Vaughn on Coleman's passing. "He will be greatly missed. We offer our deepest condolences to Quinn’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.”</p>

<p>Brasstracks have dedicated their forthcoming album, Golden Ticket, due out Aug. 21, to Coleman. They wrote, “Quinn’s positivity and passion was infectious, he made everyone around him feel good and always felt more than a friend than A&amp;R. He truly believed in us and worked so hard on this project with us. We were the first act he signed to Capitol and we were so proud to work with him. Quinn was family.”</p>
