IRAN-US WAR: Iran has issued a fresh warning to the United States, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf saying Tehran will no longer limit itself to “proportionate” responses. He warned that any future attack on Iranian interests or security would trigger a “faster, heavier and more painful” response.

The warning comes amid a sharp escalation around the Strait of Hormuz, with the US and Iran exchanging attacks at sea. The United States has struck three Iranian oil tankers, while Iran has claimed attacks against US-linked vessels and American warships. Some Iranian claims about damage to US vessels have been disputed by Washington.

The IRGC has also claimed that Iranian forces fired missiles at a US aircraft carrier and destroyer. The claims come as Washington continues its naval and economic pressure campaign against Tehran.

Iran will strike on US energy chokepoints and vital interests: IRGC
Hossein Mohebbi, spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said that the country's missile capability remains intact and any attack at Iran's infrastructure will result in “heavy strikes” on US energy chokepoints and vital interests. He further added that Iran's missile production continues and the US plan for new economic sanctions against Tehran amounts to "an implicit admission" of Washington's failure on the military front. "We can easily establish economic relations with countries. There is no concern regarding the economic situation," said Mohebbi, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.“Today, the US understands very well that if it carries out its threats against Iran’s infrastructure, it will face heavy strategic strikes on energy chokepoints and its vital interests.” He continued, “The most important achievement of this war was transferring vulnerability to the enemy’s vital infrastructure and affiliated centres."

US is seeking to ‘start new war’, will regret it, says Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Ghalibaf

Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has been appointed to oversee relations with China, Iranian media reported on Sunday (May 17). Ghalibaf was the chief negotiator in talks with the United States that resulted in a ceasefire after Israel and the US launched airstrikes on Iran in Feb. It was not immediately clear who appointed Ghalibaf to the role, but Tasnim said he would “coordinate various sectors of relations between Iran and China.” After his appointment, Ghalibaf backed Chinese President Xi Jinping's vision of historic global transformations, stating that "the future belongs to the Global South." While some American policymakers consider Ghalibaf capable of tactical compromise and serious negotiations, they remain wary of his long-standing alignment with the Islamic Republic’s core ideological positions, particularly on nuclear policy and regional security issues. US assessments also suggest that his anti-American rhetoric and public denials of negotiations are often calibrated for domestic political positioning and pressure tactics rather than outright rejection of engagement.
Trump administration pushes global coalition to secure Strait of Hormuz
The Trump administration is urging foreign governments to join a new international coalition to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as the ongoing conflict continues to disrupt the vital shipping route. The initiative, called the “Maritime Freedom Construct,” seeks to coordinate diplomatic action, align sanctions policies, and improve intelligence sharing to secure safe passage through the strait. The waterway has become a central flashpoint in tensions between the United States and Iran, with both sides maintaining competing security measures. Trump has repeatedly insisted that the United States can manage the situation independently while also criticizing European allies for not contributing enough. At the same time, global fuel prices have surged due to continued instability in the region. A US State Department cable sent to diplomatic posts this week instructs officials to promote the coalition and seek partner participation by Friday. The cable, reviewed by CNN, also directs diplomats not to engage with US adversaries, including Russia, China, Belarus, and Cuba. The Wall Street Journal first reported details of the directive. According to the cable, the coalition will be coordinated by the State Department and the Pentagon through US Central Command. “The MFC will take steps to ensure safe passage, including providing real-time information, safety guidance, and coordination to ensure vessels can transit these waters securely,” the cable said. It added that countries are encouraged to participate at varying levels depending on their capabilities. “Contributions may include diplomatic coordination, information sharing, sanctions enforcement, naval presence, or other forms of support,” the cable said. “We welcome all levels of engagement and do not expect your country to shift naval assets or resources away from existing maritime constructs.” https://www.wionews.com/videos/us-plans-hormuz-coalition-as-iran-vows-gulf-free-of-america-1777572473035/embed Disclaimer: WION takes utmost care to accurately and responsibly report ongoing conflicts in West Asia involving Israel, Iran, the US, Gulf nations, and non-state actors like Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis, Islamic State, and others. The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament has directly pushed back against recent comments made by Donald Trump, rejecting claims that Iran’s oil infrastructure was at risk of imminent explosions. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed the remarks as inaccurate and politically motivated, insisting that conditions on the ground contradict the warnings. “Three days have passed, and no oil well has exploded. We can extend this period to 30 days and even broadcast live footage of the wells.”He further criticised the economic reasoning behind US policy guidance, arguing that sanctions-based strategies have backfired. “These kinds of recommendations come from individuals who promote ideas like economic blockades—approaches that have only driven oil prices higher, even toward $140.” Ghalibaf added a broader critique of decision-making in Washington: “The issue is not just flawed ideas, but a flawed mindset.” The exchange comes amid a broader dispute over the US handling of Iranian oil exports. US officials framed the move as a strategic tool. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the administration intended to use the Iranian barrels against the Iranians to keep the price down, while limiting authorization strictly to existing shipments and not allowing new production or purchases. Three days earlier, Trump claimed in a Fox News interview that Iran’s oil infrastructure was nearing failure due to storage pressures and blockade-related constraints. That timeframe has now passed without any reported incidents. Iranian oil officials, however, had already stated that both land and sea storage capacity remained sufficient, allowing continued management of exports and production despite sanctions pressure. https://www.wionews.com/videos/us-plans-strikes-to-break-deadlock-in-talks-with-iran-1777489191933/embed Disclaimer: WION takes utmost care to accurately and responsibly report ongoing conflicts in West Asia involving Israel, Iran, the US, Gulf nations, and non-state actors like Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis, Islamic State, and others. Amid a deepening dual blockade in the Persian Gulf, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has issued a sharp rebuke to the United States, unveiling a strategic "formula" that warns of catastrophic energy price hikes for American consumers as summer approaches. Ghalibaf’s comments, shared on Monday, April 27, 2026, directly target Washington’s claim of "holding all the cards" in the ongoing conflict. His cryptic mathematical equation suggests that while the U.S. has exhausted its primary economic manoeuvres, Tehran retains significant, unplayed leverage over global maritime chokepoints. https://www.wionews.com/videos/hormuz-crisis-boosts-russia-how-global-oil-shocks-are-filling-kremlin-coffers-1777299301338/embed Taking to social media, the Iranian leader divided the geopolitical standoff into two competing sides. He described the U.S. position as a series of "played" or "depleted" cards:

Inventory Release (Played): A reference to the Biden and Trump administrations tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).

Demand Destruction (Partly Played): High prices causing a forced dip in consumption.

More Price Adjustment (To Come): A warning that market corrections are far from over.

Also read: ‘An entire nation humiliated....’: Merz questions US exit strategy in Iran war

Ghalibaf suggested that the "summer vacation" season—a period of peak fuel demand in the US would become a "nightmare" of soaring pump prices unless Washington lifts its naval blockade of Iranian ports. "Washington brags about holding the cards, but they are playing with an empty deck," Ghalibaf reportedly stated. On Monday (Apr 27), the market reacted to the stalled Islamabad peace talks, with Brent Crude surging over 2% to $107.49 a barrel, its highest since early April, according to news agency Reuters. The rhetoric comes as the region grapples with a dual blockade scenario. While Iran maintains its grip on the Strait of Hormuz the transit point for 20% of global oil the US Navy has enforced a counter-blockade on all ships seeking to reach Iranian ports since April 13.

Amid the ongoing Strait of Hormuz blockade, Iranian Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warns the US of a "summer nightmare" regarding energy prices.

He described the U.S. position as a series of "played" or "depleted" cards: Inventory Release (Played): A reference to the Biden and Trump administrations tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). Demand Destruction (Partly Played): High prices causing a forced dip in consumption. More Price Adjustment (To Come): A warning that market corrections are far from over. 'Iran will close Strait of Hormuz if US blockade not lifted': Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf's message to Trump

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf took an unusual jab at the United States, using mathematics instead of traditional political rhetoric. In a post on X, he warned that US pressure on Iran, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, could trigger a massive surge in global oil prices, ultimately hurting American consumers. "Enjoy the current pump figures. With the so-called 'blockade', soon you'll be nostalgic for $4–5 gas," he wrote. Alongside the warning, he shared a formula: ΔO_BSOH > 0 ⇒ f(f(O)) > f(O), which appeared complex but conveyed a straightforward economic message. Ghalibaf, who holds a PhD in Political Geography and has experience managing infrastructure and logistics, understands the strategic importance of chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions escalated after failed peace talks in Islamabad, following which the US moved to blockade the strait. Since key oil-producing nations rely heavily on this route, disruptions have already pushed prices higher. The equation breaks down as follows:

‘O’ represents oil prices.

‘BSOH’ stands for Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

‘ΔO_BSOH > 0’ means the blockade raises oil prices.

‘f(O)’ refers to immediate effects, restricted supply, and price spikes.

‘f(f(O))’ highlights secondary effects, rising insurance costs, reduced shipping, and broader economic inflation.

In essence, Ghalibaf argued that the real danger lies not just in the initial price surge but in the cascading effects that follow. A similar disruption occurred in 2021 when the Ever Given blocked the Suez Canal for six days, causing global trade losses worth billions. https://www.wionews.com/videos/hungary-elections-opposition-tisza-wins-thumping-majority-1776082511761/embed However, the Strait of Hormuz carries far greater strategic weight, and its ongoing disruption could have deeper consequences. Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, accused the US on Wednesday (April 8) of violating the two-week ceasefire agreement. “The deep historical distrust we hold toward the United States stems from its repeated violations of all forms of commitments, a pattern that has regrettably been repeated once again,” Ghalibaf said in a statement posted on social media. Three parts of Iran’s 10-point ceasefire proposal have been violated, Ghalibaf added: Israel’s continued attacks on Lebanon, the entry of a drone into Iranian airspace, and the denial of the Islamic Republic’s right to enrich uranium. “In such a situation, a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is unreasonable,” the parliamentary speaker said. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (April 7) that Iran’s proposal was a workable basis for negotiations. The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment. US oil prices fell more than 15% to around $95 per barrel by 2:59 pm ET as the fragile ceasefire appeared at risk of unraveling. Also Read: Rex Heuermann confesses to killing 8 women in Gilgo Beach serial killings. Ghalibaf’s statement came less than a day after Trump agreed to halt attacks for two weeks in exchange for Iran allowing ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz during that period. Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also criticized Israeli claims over its attacks on Lebanon, saying the US must choose between a ceasefire or continued war via Israel. Araghchi was reacting to the Israeli attack in and around Beirut that killed over a hundred people. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said earlier that strikes on Lebanon were not part of the ceasefire plan. “The Iran–US Ceasefire terms are clear and explicit: the U.S. must choose between a ceasefire or continued war via Israel. Iran's parliament speaker Ghalibaf accuses US of violating ceasefire; Araghchi warns 'world is watching'

Pakistan’s mediation through the US reportedly led Israel to stop targeting two senior Iranian leaders as diplomatic efforts to ease tensions continue

Israel had coordinates to kill Iran FM Araghchi and Speaker Ghalibaf but ‘this country’ warned US against it: Report

The war in West Asia that was started on Feb 28 after the US and Israel attacked Iran pre-emptively has eliminated several high-ranking officers from the Iranian regime, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Security chief Ali Larijani. As the war almost completes a month, US President Donald Trump has blinked and hinted at a peace deal with the Islamic Republic. While Iran has rejected any sort of negotiations with the Americans, citing past betrayal, the US president claimed that his administration is speaking to a “top person” who isn't the Supreme Leader. Reports claimed that it could be Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf. While there is no official confirmation on the same, Ghalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have been two people vocal in their criticism of the US and Israeli attacks and also at the forefront of what they call their “resistance.” Now, a new report claims that the US and Israel have temporarily removed these two senior Iranian officials from their list of targets to eliminate as they explore possible peace talks. Interestingly, Trump has even hinted that Iranian parliamentary speaker Ghalibaf can lead the Islamic Republic in the future. As for Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, he was the person, who led the nuclear negotiations on behalf of the Iranian regime that took place before the war. According to the report by the Wall Street Journal, US officials were quoted saying that mediators from Turkey, Pakistan and Egypt are pushing for US and Iranian negotiators to meet in the next couple of days to discuss pausing the war. Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Ghalibaf and FM Araghchi in US good books? Report claims they are no longer targets

Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued a stark warning on Wednesday (March 25), saying Tehran has received intelligence suggesting that adversaries may be planning to seize one of Iran’s islands with backing from a regional country. “Based on some intelligence reports, Iran's enemies are preparing to occupy one of the Iranian islands with support from one of the regional states,” Ghalibaf wrote in a post on X in both Persian and Arabic.

He added that Iranian forces are closely tracking developments and warned that any hostile move would trigger severe retaliation against critical infrastructure in the supporting country. “Our forces are monitoring all enemy movements, and if they take any step, all the vital infrastructure of that regional state will be targeted with relentless, unceasing attacks.” At the same time, Donald Trump has reportedly ordered the deployment of additional airborne troops and Marines to the Gulf region, fueling speculation about a possible ground operation.
