Three terrorists belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba&nbsp;terror outfit were killed in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

In an anti-terrorist operation early today morning, three terrorists were killed and according to Jammu and Kashmir Police, two of them&nbsp;have been identified as Lateef Lone and Umer Nazir. Police said that they were involved in the killing of Kashmiri Pandits, Puran Krishna and Till Bahadur Thapa.

“Among three neutralised local terrorists, two identified as Lateef Lone of Shopian, involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Shri Purana Krishna Bhat &amp; Umer Nazir of Anantnag, involved in the killing of Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal. 01 AK 47 rifle &amp; 2 pistols recovered,“ said Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

The security forces had received input about the presence of terrorists in the Manj Marg area of Zainapora in Shopian South Kashmir. Police along with the Indian army and CRPF laid down a cordon and search operation and as they approached the terrorists, the forces were fired upon by the hiding terrorists triggering an encounter.&nbsp;

“In the ensuing encounter, three local terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Junaid Ahmad Sheergojri of Gadoora Pulwama, Fazil Nazir Bhat of Drabgam Pulwama and Irfan Ahmad Malik of Arabal Nikas Pulwama.” said Vijay Kumar.&nbsp;

One Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist killed in Srinagar encounter

Three terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed by security forces during an encounter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

One of the terrorists was responsible for the killing of police officer Reyaz Ahmad.

“In the ensuing encounter, three local terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter. They have been identified as Junaid Ahmad Sheergojri of Gadoora Pulwama, Fazil Nazir Bhat of Drabgam Pulwama and Irfan Ahmad Malik of Arabal Nikas Pulwama.” said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General, Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The encounter ensued following a tip-off about their presence in the area. Then a joint search operation was launched by the police, Indian Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday at 6.55 pm in the Drabgam village area of Pulwama.

When the team approached their hideout, the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately which was effectively retaliated by the security personnel, leading to an encounter.

“As per police records, all the three killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on police and civilians. Deceased Junaid Sheergojri, along with his associate Abid Hussain Shah of Monghama Pulwama, who stands neutralised on May 30, was involved in the killing of police personnel Reyaz Ahmad at his residential house on May 13.”

“Besides, he was also involved in the recent attack on outside labourers at a brick kiln in Chadoora on June 2 in the outskirts of Pulwama-Budgam axis, in which one labourer was killed and others injured,” the J&amp;K Police chief, Kumar, said.

The police have found incriminating materials, arms &amp; ammunition, including two &nbsp;AK-47 rifles and a pistol from the encounter site.

Kashmir: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists killed in Pulwama encounter

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have gunned down two terrorists&nbsp;responsibile for the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit, Rahul Bhat, during an encounter in Bandipora district.

According to police, the terrorists belonged&nbsp;to the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and had recently infiltrated the Kashmir valley from across the border.&nbsp;

The terrorists who are from Pakistan&nbsp;have been identified as Faisal alias Sikander and Abu Ukasa.&nbsp;

According to the J&amp;K Police, Faisal was involved in the killing of 3 J&amp;K policemen in Bandipora on Dec 10 and Feb 11 this year. &nbsp;These terrorists had recently shifted base to central Kashmir.&nbsp;

After killing&nbsp;Rahul Pandit, both terrorists shifted their base to the Bandipora district. The police, who were tracking them, located their hideout in the Aragam area of the district and eliminated them.

"The deceased LeT terrorists were being tracked for some time. They had infiltrated and on Wednesday, we had launched an operation in Bandipora in which one terrorist was killed. &nbsp;Lateef (another terrorist) was helping them move, and yesterday at the time of killing Rahul Bhat, we saw their movement again through our technical surveillance.&nbsp;After killing Bhat, they went to Bandipora back to their hideout. We kept tracking them and in a joint operation, both the Pakistan-based&nbsp;terrorists were killed,"&nbsp;Iftikhar Talib,&nbsp;head of Special&nbsp;Operations&nbsp;Group, J&amp;K Police, said.

The police officer added that their accompalice,&nbsp;Lateef,&nbsp;is still missing. He said, "We are tracking him."

“Two recently infiltrated Pakistani terrorists of LeT terror outfit who escaped from the recent anti-terrorist operation on Wednesday at Salinder forest area were tracked down. They were trapped today at Brar Bandipora,” said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General (IG) of Police, Kashmir.&nbsp;

He further said that the search operation is still in progress to locate other infiltrators.

Police had earlier killed Hyder who was an accomplice of the same gang during an encounter on Saturday at Devsar in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Police said that with the killing of two LeT terrorists at Aragam Bandipora, the entire group of three terrorists who had recently infiltrated from the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir have been eliminated.&nbsp;

The first terrorist who was killed earlier on Wednesday was identified as Gulzar Ahmad Ganai from Pattan Baramulla. He crossed over to Pakistan in 2018 on a valid Pakistani visa and came back as a trained terrorist.

He had infiltrated with two other terrorists from the Line of Control. The two terrorists killed today (Friday) are suspected to be from Pakistan.

They have been identified as Arif Ahmad Hazar @Rehan (Deputy of LeT’s top commander Basit), Abu Huzaifa @ Haqqani (Pakistani terrorist) and Natish Wani @Haider resident of Khanyar, Srinagar," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that all the killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities.&nbsp;

"The killed terrorist Arif Hazar was a categorized terrorist, active since March 2021 and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities besides, several cases were registered against him in Srinagar city," said Kumar.&nbsp;

He added, "He was involved in killing of Inspector Parvez in front of mosque at Menganwari Nowgam on 22-06-2021, killing of PSI Arshid Ahmad Mir near PS Khanyar on 12-09-2021, killing of police personnel Javaid Ahmad at Saidapora Eidgah on 17-06-2021, killing of mobile shop owner Umar Nazir Bhat at Main Chowk Habba Kadal on 23-06-2021, killing of civilian Mohammad Shafi Dar at SD Colony Batamaloo, killing of civilian Rouf Ahmad Khan outside his house at Mejinpora Safakadal on 22-12-2021. He was also involved in grenade attacks on Police Patrolling Party at Safakadal and joint Naka party at Rainawari."&nbsp;

Police also said that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.&nbsp;

India: Three Lashkar terrorists killed in Pulwama encounter

Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested three hybrid terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba in the Sopore area of North Kashmir.&nbsp;

Police along with CRPF and army have arrested three hybrid terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT in Sopore. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, and cash was recovered from their possession.

Police had got a tip-off about the movement of terrorists and acting on specific information regarding movement of terrorists, a special checkpoint was established by Police, 22RR and&nbsp;179Bn CRPF near Sunwani bridge Wadoora Bala.&nbsp;

The department`s spokesperson said that Lakhvi was arrested during a raid for allegedly financing terrorists.

"We welcome Pakistan`s arrest of terrorist leader Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi as an important step in holding him responsible for his role in supporting terrorism and its financing," the United States Department of State Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs wrote on Twitter.

"We will follow his prosecution and sentencing closely and urge that he be held accountable for his involvement in the Mumbai attacks," it added.

The terrorist was behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 wherein 166 people were killed and 300 were left injured. Lakhvi was designated as a global terrorist by the United Nations under the United Nations Security Council Resolution in 2008 after the Mumbai attacks.

In April last year, Pakistan, which has long been accused of aiding and abetting terrorism, had removed about 1,800 names from its terrorist watchlist including that of 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, according to data collected by castellum.aI, a New York-based regulatory technology company.

US urges Pak to hold designated terrorist LeT commander Lakhvi accountable for 26/11 Mumbai attacks

Pakistan's intelligence agency and terror groups are now carrying out recruitment in Jammu and Kashmir using applications in cyber and mobile space as direct physical interactions have become difficult due to the security forces' hawk-eyed vigil, officials said on Sunday.

Fake videos of alleged atrocities committed by the security forces and building a false narrative are now often used by the ISI handlers from Pakistan to whip up emotions among the new recruits, they said, citing intelligence reports and technical surveillance.

Earlier, terrorist sympathisers used to establish physical contact with the prospective recruits to bring them into a terror group's rank and files. However, after security agencies cracked down on such sympathisers, they changed their modus operandi.

In 2020, over two dozen terror modules were busted by security agencies leading to the arrest of over 40 such sympathisers.

Two surrendered terrorists, Tawar Waghey and Amir Ahmed Mir, who laid down their arms before 34 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army late last month, had given an insight into their joining of terror modules that showed that cyber recruitment was being carried out on a large scale.

Both the terrorists had come in contact with a Pakistan-based handler via Facebook who indoctrinated them before handing them over to a recruiter code-named Khalid and Mohammed Abbas Sheikh.

The two terrorists were provided training online using various links available on public platforms like YouTube and both of them had met their local contact only once in Shopian in south Kashmir, the officials said.

This, according to the officials, is done to avoid exposure of sleeper cells created by Pakistan's ISI within the valley. Security agencies have busted several modules following intelligence inputs provided by local residents.

The two terrorists, after being recruited into The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be a shadow outfit of banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, were receiving orders as well as religious teachings from Pakistan-based Burhan Hamza.

The officials said there were around 40 such cases where the recruitment was done and indoctrination carried out through social media, especially in south Kashmir. The new recruits were awaiting orders from across the border.

Terror groups are definitely facing a shortage of arms and that is one of the reasons why Pakistan-based terror outfits are more focused on sending more arms and less manpower, the officials said.

They gave an example of last month's encounter on the outskirts of Jammu city where a valley-bound group of four terrorists was carrying 11 assault rifles and a huge quantity of ammunition.

The death of a 22-year-old local terrorist Amir Siraj in north Kashmir late last month was yet another case of cyber recruitment, the officials said.

A final year graduation student from Khawaja Gilgat in Sopore, Siraj was staying with his maternal uncle in Adipora in north Kashmir and would spend most of his afternoons playing football in the local ground.

He went missing on the afternoon of June 24, 2020. Later, it was found that he had been recruited by terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed from across the border via social media, the officials said.

The local terrorist had expressed his desire to surrender but was threatened by his accomplice that he and his family would be killed if he were to act on it, they said.&nbsp;

They gave an example of last month's encounter on the outskirts of Jammu city where a valley-bound group of four terrorists was carrying 11 assault rifles and a huge quantity of ammunition. The death of a 22-year-old local terrorist Amir Siraj in north Kashmir late last month was yet another case of cyber recruitment, the officials said. A final year graduation student from Khawaja Gilgat in Sopore, Siraj was staying with his maternal uncle in Adipora in north Kashmir and would spend most of his afternoons playing football in the local ground. He went missing on the afternoon of June 24, 2020. Later, it was found that he had been recruited by terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed from across the border via social media, the officials said. The local terrorist had expressed his desire to surrender but was threatened by his accomplice that he and his family would be killed if he were to act on it, they said.

The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/in-major-shift-china-sends-stern-message-to-pakistan-on-fatf-281730">Financial Action Task Force</a> (FATF) has to date kept Pakistan off its blacklist but warned late last year that Islamabad could face international action if it failed to do more to combat terrorism financing.

But Pakistan, which has avoided punishment so far thanks to support from major ally China, now seems more confident it will keep clear of the blacklist after securing backing from other friendly countries including Malaysia and Turkey.

A minimum of three votes by FATF member states are required for a country to escape FATF blacklisting.

Pakistani Finance Ministry adviser Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has "thanked the Chinese government for their massive support in the FATF meetings," a ministry statement said.

"Investigation revealed that the accused was affiliated to LeT and was involved in arranging funds through hawala channels from Saudi Arabia to Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, which were received by accused, Sheikh Abdul Nayeem," the NIA statement said.

"Terror funds were used for carrying out a recce in various places of India to recruit terrorists for LeT and identify soft targets including foreign nationals and tourists," added the statement.Further probe in the case is underway.&nbsp;

Pakistan government leaders caught sharing stage with US-designated terrorist

Eight terrorist associates who were involved in threatening and intimidation of locals by publishing and circulating of posters on the behest of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) affiliates, were arrested on Monday, said sources.

Those arrested have been identified as Aijaz Mir, Omar Mir, Tawseef Najar, Imitiyaz Najar, Omar Akbar, Faizan Latief, Danish Habib, and Showkat Ahmad Mir who are accused of preparing the threatening posters and circulating them in the locality.

According to sources, it is learnt that an active local terrorist namely Sajad Mir alias Haidar and his other associates Muddasir Pandith and Asif Maqbool Bhat affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were the principal architects on whose behest the posters were published and circulated.

Police recovered and seized the computers, other accessories and incriminating materials which were used for drafting and publishing of the posters, they added.

The police are also investigating the complicity of terrorists in the recent killing of civilians in the area.

Further, an investigation is underway.

Even as Pakistan continues to face massive international pressure over tackling terrorism, the country's Army continues to push infiltrators across the Line of Control (LoC) to carry out their nefarious activities in India.

But with <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/india-planning-bigger-attack-than-balakot-imran-khan-in-pok-assembly-243024">Prime Minister Imran Khan</a> repeatedly stating that his government has been taking steps to crack down on the menace, a rift could widen between the cricketer-turned-politician and the armed forces over providing support to jihadi groups operating unabated on its soil.

It is a well-known fact that terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) enjoy the patronage of the Pakistan Army. Terrorists like Hafiz Saeed are regularly seen ranting anti-India rhetoric and collecting the so-called "donations" in their "charitable organisations" to fuel unrest in the neighbouring country.

It may be recalled that in October 2017, Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor said that the country was working on a "mainstreaming" programme to induct members of armed groups into the political process.

According to a commentary written by EFSAS, a European-based think-tank, the integration of terrorists and terror-linked groups into Pakistan's mainstream politics is an aim, according to Ghafoor, "to develop a constructive role for them".

A classic example of Pakistan harbouring terrorists is the US raid at Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden's compound in the garrison town of Abbottabad in 2011. The raid ultimately killed the notorious 9/11 attacks mastermind, ending a nearly 10-year search. The dramatic development left Islamabad red-faced as they had repeatedly denied Osama's presence in the country.

Similarly, following the designation as a global terrorist by the UN in May, JeM chief Masood Azhar has been shifted to a safe house in Islamabad from his residence in Bahawalpur by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), sources said in May. Pakistan has been hiding Azhar and his relatives from the public glare ever since the terror group carried out the gruesome Pulwama attack in February, which killed 40 CRPF personnel, fearing a direct Indian strike on him.

"Pakistan has not dealt effectively (militarily, politically, or legally) with domestic extremists and is also afflicted by spillover from events in Afghanistan. Attempts to manipulate violent groups to use them against India have contributed to the loss of control and credibility," The Express Tribune quoted Martha Crenshaw, a terrorism expert professor as saying.

Imran Khan, who assumed office last year, in an election widely termed as rigged by the Pakistan Army, had recently visited the US where he made a startling revelation that his country has around 30,000-40,000 terrorists.

He even went on to say that there was no room for any "jihadi outfits or culture" in Pakistan. He claimed that his government made "sincere efforts" in eradicating the culture of "jihadism" and terrorism from the country through what he said short-term and long-term policies.

In an indirect admission that the Balakot was a major operation that rattled Pakistan, Imran Khan said in his Independence Day address that India was planning an even bigger operation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370 by New Delhi.

"We have information and we have had two National Security Committee (NSC) meetings. The Pakistan Army has full knowledge that India has made a plan to take action in PoK. Just like how after Pulwama, they took the action in Balakot, according to the information we have, they have made more sinister plans now," Khan said while addressing the Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad, PoK on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day of Pakistan.

Imran Khan's latest admission hasn't gone down well with the Army which kept denying that the incident indeed took place. The Army had even invited a group of foreign journalists to the site and tried to claim that no air raid had taken place and no casualties were reported.

Action against terrorism, because of international watch and diplomatic pressure, means Imran Khan earning wrath of the Army, which shields and trains terrorists. Pakistan has a history of the Army taking power by usurping governments. Though Imran Khan is a pawn in their hands, they would not hesitate to gain control.

Reportedly, Azhar was granted "VVIP shield" in the wake of the Pulwama attack in February even as Pakistan took control of the "Islamic seminaries" of the terror group in Bahawalpur.

Both Azhar and Saeed are wanted by New Delhi for their roles in terror attacks in India. Saeed, who carries a USD 10 million bounty on his head, is the mastermind of the gruesome 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, while Azhar's JeM attacked the Indian Parliament in 2001 and most recently carried out the Pulwama attack.

Recently, India abrogated Article 370 that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Rattled by the neighbouring country's historic move, Islamabad has ramped up its rhetoric against New Delhi and is endlessly trying to internationalise the strictly internal Indian matter.

Pakistan court extends Hafiz Saeed's judicial remand for 14 more days

The House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday countered US President Donald Trump's tweet on UN-proscribed terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

The legislative committee highlighted that Pakistan was not searching for the 26/11 terror attack mastermind for 10 years — as claimed by Trump. Hafiz was living freely in the country, they added.

"FYI Pakistan wasn't searching for him for 10 years. He's been living freely and was arrested and released on December 2001, May 2002, October 2002, August 2006 (twice), December 2008, September 2009, January 2017. Let's hold the (applause) until he's convicted," the committee tweeted.

Saeed was arrested on Wednesday while he was on his way to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Gujranwala to seek bail.

In the encounter, five security personnel and one civilian were killed in the exchange of gunfire.

Two terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, including one Pakistani national were also killed in the encounter.

According to a report 10 to 12 houses were bombed by armed forces eight others were partially damaged.

Meanwhile, <a href="Lashkar-e-Taiba">two terrorists were also killed</a> on Tuesday in&nbsp;Tral area of south Kashmir district of Pulwama. One civilian was also injured during the exchange of gunfire.

The security situation is tense in Jammu and Kashmir since February 14 after over 40 CRPF personnel were killed in a terrorist attack in Pulwama district.

Masood Azhar led Jaish-e-Mohammed, listed by the United Nations as a terror group, had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Notably, the decision comes at a time when UN's 1267 Sanctions Committee has received a new request to ban Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar after the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. Pakistan-based JeM has claimed responsibility for the strike.

The UN decision to reject appeal of Saeed, also a co-founder of terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), came after India provided detailed evidence including "highly confidential information" about his activities, sources told PTI, adding that the verdict of the global body was conveyed to his lawyer Haider Rasul Mirza earlier this week.

Saeed, chief of UN-designated terrorist organisation Jammat--ud-Dawa (JuD), was banned on December 10, 2008, by the United Nations Security Council after the horrific Mumbai attacks in which 166 people were killed.

Saeed had filed an appeal with the UN through Lahore-based law firm&nbsp;Mirza and Mirza in 2017, while he was still under house arrest in Pakistan, for removal of the ban.

Independent Ombudsperson Daniel Kipfer Fasciati, appointed by the UN to examine all such requests, has informed Saeed's lawyer that it has been decided following examination of his request that he will "continue as a listed individual", sources said.

The Ombudsperson recommended that after gathering all information, it has been decided to continue with the ban as "there was sufficient information to provide a reasonable and credible basis for continuing the listing," sources said, adding the recommendation was endorsed by the UN's Sanctions Committee.

The 1267 Committee measures include three major areas of sanctions --assets freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo, which need to be mandatorily applied by all UN member states.

The Committee oversees implementation of these three sanctions measures, besides considering the names submitted for listing and de-listing, as well as any additional information on the listed individuals and entities.

Saeed's request was opposed by India as well as other countries that had originally listed him - US, UK and France, sources said.

Significantly, Pakistan did not oppose the appeal despite claims by the new Imran Khan-led government there that it was taking action against the banned terrorists and their organisations in what they call a 'Naya Pakistan' (new Pakistan).

Last month, the US, the UK and France made a fresh bid at the UN to ban JeM head Masood Azhar, who is also residing in Pakistan as per Pakistani foreign minister's admission. JeM is already a UN-designated terrorist organisation.

Asked about the delay in deciding on Saeed's appeal, which normally takes six months from the time it is registered with the UN, sources said the delay happened because the Ombudsperson got changed before completion of the time period and then some time was taken to appoint a new one.&nbsp;

Under the 1267 committee rules, the UN member states are required to freeze without delay the funds and other financial assets or economic resources of designated individuals and entities as also required to prevent the entry into or transit through their territories by designated individuals.

All states are also required to prevent any direct or indirect supply, sale and transfer from their territories or by their nationals outside their territories, or using their flag vessels or aircraft, of arms and related material of all types, spare parts, and technical advice, assistance, or training related to military activities, to designated individuals and entities.&nbsp;
