Early on Sunday morning, at least four people—two of whom were eleven and twelve years old—were fatally stabbed in a New York City home. The suspect, according to the authorities, went on what they describe as a "rampage," allegedly setting fire to the couch and slitting two police officers with a kitchen knife before being shot and killed.

Identified as Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, the knife attacker is a French national, born in 1997 to Iranian parents.

He killed a 23-year-old man, identified as a German-Filipino citizen, with two blows from a hammer and four from a knife at around 9:30 pm (2030 GMT).

Shouting "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest"), Rajabpour-Miyandoab fled over the Bir Hakeim bridge across the river Seine after a taxi driver intervened.

Meeting a police patrol on the other side, he claimed to be wearing an explosive belt before running again, striking two passers-by -- a 66-year-old British citizen and a 60-year-old French person -- with the hammer.

He was finally stopped with two shots from a taser and taken into custody.

Ministers led by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne gathered for a security meeting on Sunday, with the head of government writing on X, formerly Twitter, "We will not give in to terrorism."

<h2>Contact with other attackers&nbsp;</h2>

"In late October 2023, the mother of the attacker reported concerns about her son's behaviour, as he had turned in on himself. But there was nothing allowing for a new prosecution," Ricard said.

An X account opened by Rajabpour-Miyandoab in early October showed "many posts about Hamas, Gaza or Palestine more generally", he added.

It was there that the attacker posted a video in Arabic presenting himself as an Islamic State fighter based in Afghanistan.

"In this video, he swore allegiance to the Islamic State and expressed his support to jihadists... in Africa, Iraq, Syria, the Sinai... Yemen or Pakistan," Ricard said.

Rajabpour-Miyandoab, whose family is not religious, converted to Islam at 18 and began consuming vast amounts of IS propaganda, according to prosecutors.

He had plans to join the Islamic State group in Iraq or Syria in 2016 and was friends on Facebook with a man who went on to kill two police officers in their home in Magnanville, outside Paris -- although the two did not exchange messages.

Later that year, he was arrested for planning an attack, eventually serving four years in prison and under close watch following his release.

That surveillance was reinforced based on his social media contacts, including with the future killer of teacher Samuel Paty, beheaded outside his school in 2020 by an Islamist attacker.

Rajabpour-Miyandoab was also under compulsory psychiatric treatment for mental health troubles until April this year, Ricard said.

Health Minister Aurelien Rousseau had earlier said Rajabpour-Miyandoab was "being monitored in a way that did not mean he was hospitalised" for his mental health issues.

"As often in these cases, there's a mixture of an ideology, an easily influenced person and, unfortunately, psychiatry," he added.

As well as Rajabpour-Miyandoab himself, three people were being held in custody on Sunday afternoon, Ricard said, "belonging to the family or the social circle of the perpetrator".

<h2>High tensions&nbsp;</h2>

Following Sunday's security meeting, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin urged that authorities "should be able to request (or) demand compulsory treatment" for people with mental health issues who are believed to be radicalised.

France remains "under the threat of radical Islamism for the long term", Darmanin added, calling for "a very strong penal response".

France has suffered several attacks by Islamist extremists, including the November 2015 suicide and gun attacks in Paris claimed by the Islamic State group in which 130 people were killed.

There had been a relative lull in recent years, even as officials have warned that the threat remains.

But tensions have risen in France, home to large Jewish and Muslim populations, following Hamas'&nbsp;unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7 and Israel's subsequent bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

This comes a month after six people, including three children, were killed in a kindergarten stabbing incident in the country’s southeastern Guangdong province.

According to the local officials, the incident took place around 8:00 am (local time). The alleged perpetrator was identified as a 20-year-old man with a history of mental illness, said the police.&nbsp;

In a statement released Tuesday evening, Luoping County police said that the suspect, surnamed Chen, had “stabbed his mother with a knife at home then fled, stabbing eight (more) people successively,” as quoted by AFP.&nbsp;

It added, “Among them, two people were unable to be saved and died.”

Chen has since been arrested. According to the police, those injured are being treated in hospital for their wounds. However, the condition of those wounded was not immediately known.&nbsp;

The attack took place in the county’s Lashan urban residential district, said the officials, adding that they have since begun an investigation into the case and are “dealing with its aftermath” in an “orderly and lawful manner.”&nbsp;

<h2>Recent rise of mass stabbings in China</h2>

While guns are strictly controlled in China, there has been a spate of mass stabbings in recent years. In July, at least six people including three children, a teacher and two parents, were killed after a kindergarten stabbing in China’s Guangdong province.

The alleged assailant was identified as a 25-year-old man with the surname Wu, who was reportedly arrested nearly 20 minutes after the attack which occurred early in the morning when the parents were dropping their children off for summer classes.&nbsp;

China: At least two killed, seven injured in knife attack

A man allegedly wounded three women in a series of subway slashing incidents in Manhattan late on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) officials while releasing the pictures of the suspect, said they were on the lookout for the man.

In a press release, the NYPD said that the man, in separate incidents, slashed three women at the 86th Street-Lexington Avenue subway station between 4 and 5 pm&nbsp;on Sunday.

The police said that the first woman, who was the victim of the slashing, was attacked from behind in the right leg when she was getting off a train.

Moments later, the accused again slashed a 48-year-old woman's right leg as she was waiting for her train, as per NYPD.

Then the alleged assailant went on to attack another 28-year-old woman who was sitting in a southbound car.

Police said that the woman was immediately rushed to the hospital with a severe injury on her leg.

<h2>Three mass shootings in a day rock US</h2>

The United States on Saturday recorded three mass shootings in Illinois, Missouri and Washington in a day, leaving four dead, and at least 38 injured.

The first shooting occurred in central Pennsylvania on Saturday morning where two state troopers were shot, one fatally, in a multi-scene shootout with a man who initially fired bullets into state police vehicles outside police barracks, reported CNN on Sunday.

The accused, identified as 38-year-old Brandon Stine, got out of the vehicle and shot a long rifle into marked police cars, Col. Christopher Paris, the Pennsylvania State Police commissioner, said at a news conference on Sunday.

He then fled the scene, prompting the authorities to launch a wide manhunt that is said to have included helicopter reinforcement.

One of the state troopers, Lt James Wagner, located Stine early that afternoon and they exchanged gunfire. A shot from Stine’s gun struck and critically injured Wagner, Paris said.

“At this point in the incident, multiple citizens and witnesses arrived to provide aid to Lt. Wagner and use the radio that was in his car to summon additional troopers, (emergency medical services) and first responders to help,” Paris said. Stine fled the scene again.

The second shooting occurred on Saturday around 8.25 pm near Washington State during an electronic dance music festival in which two people were killed and three injured.

The incident occurred a few hundred yards from the Gorge Amphitheater near Georgetown after the shooter “randomly” started shooting at the crowd.

After firing the initial shots, the suspect started moving through the campground and “continued to shoot randomly into the crowd” until he was eventually confronted by police and taken into custody, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Foreman said.

Local media reported citing witnesses that over 200 teens and young adults were gathered for a Juneteenth celebration when over two dozen shots were fired into the crowd. The incident took place at the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose Lane and Route 83 (Kingery Highway) in DuPage County.

According to a report by Swedish TV4, at least four students were taken to the hospital after a knife attack in the Swedish town of Eskilstuna, on Thursday (June 1). The media report, citing the local police, said that the incident has been classified as attempted murder.&nbsp;

According to the TV4 report, the four victims were high school students aged 15 out of which three were stabbed in the upper body and were taken to the hospital.&nbsp;

The Swedish media later reported that the incident was a knife attack. They had also initially reported that the reported attack took place at a school but the headmaster later said the students had been at a different location at the time of the incident. The alleged attack took place in the afternoon just before 1:00 pm (local time) in the area of Munktellarenan, said the media report.&nbsp;

Spokesperson Dennis Strömberg Johansson, as per The Sun, said that there are several police patrols in the vicinity of Munktellarenan and barriers have been set up. "It must be an assault with at least one motive. The crime classification is attempted murder," said Johansson, as quoted by the media report.&nbsp;

Police personnel were seen in the area and the scene has since been cordoned off, reported the local media. In an update some hours later, the police said that they have arrested two young men in connection with the case.&nbsp;

"There was some kind of brawl between several people. We don't know if there are two or more gangs of people involved, but it is several persons," said the local police spokesperson, as quoted by Reuters, adding, "There is no information whatsoever that this is related to terrorism."

The incident also comes over a year after two teachers, Victoria Edstrom and Sara Book, in their 50s, were allegedly killed by an 18-year-old student armed with an axe and knives.&nbsp;

The incident took place in March 2022 at the Malmo Latin School where two employees at a secondary school in the centre of the country’s third-largest city were stabbed and later succumbed to injuries.

The perpetrator, later identified as Fabian Cederholm, was found guilty of the attack late last year. He was sentenced to life in prison, which in Sweden means a minimum of 20 to 25 years, but it could be extended.

He added, “Everything points to this being an isolated incident”, adding that it was premature to make any interpretation about the crime. The identity of the alleged attacker also remains unknown. The PM also said that an investigation into the attack is underway and it is too soon to speculate on the motive.&nbsp;

The centre was opened in 1998 by Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the world’s Ismailis. The Shia Muslim centre in Lisbon also comprises prayer halls, classrooms, meeting rooms and exhibition spaces.&nbsp;

The Ismaili Muslim community is living in more than 25 countries around the world but Portugal is home to one of the largest in continental Europe with thousands of those belonging to the community living there. The assailant ran away and was later apprehended by police in a neighbouring yard.

Authorities were still looking into the attack's potential causes and if the perpetrator and victims were acquainted. As is typical in Germany, they withheld any information on the victims' or attackers' identities.

However, as per German news agency DPA, the injured man is from Bosnia-Herzegovina, while the suspected assailant is a Serb and the two ladies are also of Serbian origin, reports said.&nbsp;

According to the French authorities, several people were wounded on Wednesday by a man wielding a knife at the busy Gare du Nord station in Paris.

The second and the final suspect in the Canada stabbing spree died shortly after his arrest due to self-inflicted wounds. The suspect was arrested after a four-day manhunt.&nbsp;

"Myles Sanderson was located and taken into police custody near Rosthern, Saskatchewan, at approximately 3.30 pm today (Wednesday)," Saskatchewan police said in a statement.&nbsp;

Myles was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and breaking and entering. His brother, Damien, was also facing charges before he was found dead on Monday.&nbsp;

Myles had been a fugitive since May after he stopped meeting his parole officer after serving for assault, robbery, and other offences.&nbsp;

As per a reported examination&nbsp;by Reuters of parole record, Myles accrued 59 offences over the course of 20 years.&nbsp;

The stabbing spree, which left 18 people injured in addition to the victims dead, alarmed a nation where mass murder is rare.

All the victims, except one, were members of the Cree community. The other was a widower who lived with his adult grandson in nearby Weldon.&nbsp;Those wounded in the attack were 17 adults and one young teen, police said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau deplored&nbsp;the mass stabbings and asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact authorities.

“Yesterday's attacks in Saskatchewan are shocking and heartbreaking. This kind of violence—or any kind of violence—has no place in our country,” Trudeau said.

The Canadian police are on a hunt for the two suspects believed to be involved in the knife attack.

According to police, the stabbings—in which some of the victims were targeted—took place in multiple locations on the James Smith Cree Nation and in the village of Weldon, northeast of Saskatoon on Sunday.

AP news agency has reported that the suspects have&nbsp;been identified as Damien Sanderson (31), five feet seven inches tall and weighing 155 pounds,&nbsp;and Myles Sanderson (30), six-foot-one and 200 pounds.

Both have black hair and brown eyes and may be driving a black Nissan Rogue.

The incidents were first reported at 8:20 am (local time), following which the police issued a province-wide dangerous person alert.

“It is horrific what has occurred in our province today,” Rhonda Blackmore, the Assistant Commissioner of the RCMP Saskatchewan was quoted as saying. She added that they are yet to determine the motive.

Blackmore further said that they are trying to determine the relationship between the two suspects and whether they were known to the police.

Based on the tip-off from the public, police said that the suspects were last seen in Saskatchewan’s capital of Regina, but they have gone incognito since then.

“If in the Regina area, take precautions &amp; consider sheltering in place. Do not leave a secure location. DO NOT APPROACH suspicious persons. Do not pick up hitch hikers. Report suspicious persons, emergencies or info to 9-1-1. Do not disclose police locations,” the RCMP said in a message on Twitter.

In a news release, the Regina Police Service said it was working to locate and arrest the suspects and had “deployed additional resources for public safety throughout the city, including the football game at Mosaic Stadium".

The police, reportedly, received a call about the attack around 9:20 am. The train was stopped at Seubersdorf, south of Nuremberg. "At the moment, there is no further information about the persons involved," the statement added.

For now, train service between the affected stations have been temporarily suspended.

German knife attack: Islamist motive 'likely', say investigators

A Somali man killed three people and left five others seriously injured in an "incredibly brutal" knife rampage in the southern German city of Wuerzburg.

The 24-year-old suspect staged the attack in the city centre at around 5 pm (1500 GMT), striking at a household goods store, before hitting a bank.

The man, who has lived in Wuerzburg since 2015, was overpowered after police shot him in the thigh, said Bavaria's interior minister Joachim Herrmann.

The rampage left "three dead, five seriously injured and others injured," said Herrmann, adding, "it is not certain if the most seriously injured will survive".

Investigators have found documentation showing the man "was treated in a psychiatric institution", said Herrmann, but added that he could not detail the length of the stay.

"The police investigation will determine if this was an Islamist act or if it was due to the psychiatric state" of the man, he said.

'Allah Akbar'&nbsp;

A witness had reportedly said the suspect "shouted Allah Akbar" (God is greatest) during what rescuers described as a "really incredibly brutal" attack, said Herrmann.

"That must all be clarified in further interrogations but we have no further indications on the motivations," he added.

Police said however that the suspect was not a known Islamist.

The mass-circulation daily Bild published a photo of the suspect, showing a dark-skinned man wearing a beige, long-sleeved t-shirt with grey trousers and holding a long knife.

Video footage circulating online also showed passers-by trying to stop the suspect using folded chairs.&nbsp;

A crowd of people gave chase before a police car arrived on the scene, one video showed.

Another photo published by Bild showed a police officer handcuffing the suspect.
