A knife-wielding man attacked 11 children and seriously injured three on Wednesday at a kindergarten in China, state media reported.

Official Xinhua agency reported that the three children were sent for treatment to a hospital.

According to Xinhua, the attacker entered the school mid-afternoon under the pretext of picking up his son. State broadcaster CCTV, however, said the man climbed the wall to enter the institution.

Knife attacks are not uncommon in China, news agency AFP said.

In February, 10 children were wounded in a knife-attack in Haikou. The assailant committed suicide after.

In 2014, state media reported the stabbing of three children and a teacher. The incident was carried out at the primary school where the man&#39;s daughter was refused enrollment.

The incidents have prompted concerns and forced authorites to increase security measure around school. There have balso been calls to research on the root cause of such actions.

A 21-year-old British woman was killed at an Australian backpacker&#39;s hostel, after a Frenchman allegedly stabbed three people while saying &nbsp;&quot;Allahu Akbar&quot;, police said today. 
 
The incident took place late on Tuesday at the rural town of Home Hill in far north Queensland, deputy commissioner Steve Gollschewski told reporters in Brisbane. 
 
According to Gollschewski, officers were called to the hostel at about 11.15 pm (local time) and found the woman dead and a 30-year-old British man in a critical condition. A local man was also injured in the attack but has since been released from hospital, he added. 
 
&quot;Initial inquiries indicate that comments which may be construed of being of an extremist nature were made by the alleged offender,&quot; he added. 
 
&quot;It is alleged that the suspect used the phrase &#39;Allahu Akbar&#39; when arrested by police. 
 
&quot;While this information will be factored into the investigation we are not ruling out any motivations at this stage, whether they be political or criminal.&quot; 
 
When asked if the 29-year-old Frenchman, who is in police custody, had links to the so-called Islamic State group, Gollschewski said &quot;no&quot; and added that there was no ongoing threat to the community. 
 
&quot;At this stage there&#39;s no indications... other than the fact he was acting alone,&quot; Australian Federal Police Commander Sharon Cowden added at the same press conference.

One person was injured in a knife and shooting attack in Cologne city centre in the early hours of today, German newspaper Express reported, adding that two suspects were on the run. 
 
The paper said several people had told the police shortly before 4 am (0200 GMT) that three or four people seemed to be having problems with another man. Eyewitnesses reported seeing men attacking each other with axes, Express said on its website. 
 
A man who sustained a stab wound tried to flee in his car but other men shot at him, though they only hit the car. 
 
Two possible perpetrators were later stopped by police. The motive for the attack is unknown, the newspaper reported.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Thursday the safety of Londoners was his top priority and the public should remain calm and vigilant after a knife attack in central London. 
 
One woman was killed and five others injured by a man with suspected mental health issues who went on the rampage with a knife in central London late on Wednesday, an attack police said could be linked to terrorism.
