A man who allegedly carried out a knife attack on a policewoman in France died on Friday.&nbsp;The suspect was killed after a shootout with police during his arrest, reports said.

The attacker was on the run in the La Chapelle-sur-Erdre area in Nantes in western France when he was tracked by police.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin had earlier said the attacker was arrested after police launched a manhunt involving helicopters and several officers.

Darmanin added that&nbsp;he would be travelling to the area as school students were asked to stay indoors.

The policewoman reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries.

There was no information on the assailant's motive. The police haven't revealed the identity of the attacker.

The incidents of attack on police have increased in France in recent months. Last month, a female police worker was stabbed to death near Paris by a Tunisian national.

Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti had earlier called on judges to show firmness while dealing with people found guilty of attacks on police.

The notorious Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the knife attack that took place in Russia's&nbsp;southern Chechnya region in which one policeman was killed, a local newspaper reported on Friday morning.

Gunmen attacked six locations in central Vienna on Monday evening, starting outside the main synagogue. Witnesses described the men firing into crowds in bars with automatic rifles, as many people took advantage of the last evening before a nationwide curfew was introduced because of COVID-19.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that three civilians were killed in the attacks - two men and one woman - with 15 others wounded, including a police officer.

Nehammer said the home of the known assailant had been searched and video material seized. Vienna`s police chief declined to provide further details on the attacker`s identity, citing potential endangerment of the investigation.

Oskar Deutsch, the head of Vienna`s Jewish community, which has offices adjoining the synagogue on a narrow cobbled street dotted with bars, said on Twitter that it was not clear whether the temple or offices were targeted but that they were closed at the time.

Videos circulated on social media of a gunman running down a cobblestone street shooting and shouting. One showed a man gunning down a person outside what appeared to be a bar on the street housing the synagogue.

Local reporters&nbsp;at the scene said police armed with automatic weapons had put up a security cordon around the church, which is on Nice's Jean Medecin Avenue, the city's main shopping thoroughfare. The 42-year-old man surnamed Wang got into a dispute with a companion after an afternoon of drinking and karaoke in the eastern province of Zhejiang.

Angry over the confrontation, Wang purchased a fruit knife, stabbed his friend's mother and fled the scene, according to a statement on the official social media account of Ningbo city's public security bureau.

The drunken Wang proceeded to steal a car at knife point and hit a cyclist, at which point the car burst into flames and Wang abandoned it, police said.

Wang fled on foot, stabbed two pedestrians, stole a driving instructor's car, and drove it into a crowd of nine people, at which point he jumped out and stabbed another five.

The incident is under investigation, the police said.

The latest violence follows an attack in September where a man ploughed a truck into a crowd in the southern province of Hunan and then went on a rampage attacking onlookers with knives and a shove.&nbsp;

Eleven died and 44 were injured.

The previous month a 54-year-old man killed his girlfriend and her family then drove a car into a crowd, killing six and injuring 12.

Police union representative Rocco Contento told Reuters that the assailant, after attacking bystanders with a knife, rushed at police shouting "I will kill you, I will kill you!"

He was then shot by the officers.

The four people wounded were out of danger, Interior Minister Gerard Collomb told reporters overnight.
