<p>She then finds the right guy in Samar from Hyderabad, played by Aditya Seal. During the wooing process she finds out that he is a Pakistani national. This is followed by a news bulletin, which informs that suspected terrorists from Pakistan have infiltrated the city and are hiding.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Isey kehte hai ghar baithe dating apps se museebat order karna (This is what you call ordering trouble from dating apps),” she says in a voiceover.</p>

<p>The trailer then shows Indoo calling Samar an ‘atankvaadi (terrorist)’ and holds up a knife to protect herself. However, she seems to have a soft corner for him and asks him to hide when her doorbell rings. He tries to prove his innocence in the trailer: “Madam, mujhe koi attack nahi karna (I am not planning any attack). I am not a terrorist!”</p>

<p>Just when you thought that Akshay Kumar could be given the trophy for making the most socially relevant, issue-based, message-driven films in Bollywood- he delivers 'Laxmii'. A film that falters at every step and misrepresents the transgender community.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Akshay Kumar's latest has been directed by Raghava Lawrence who is also attributed for the film's screenplay and story. A remake of 2011 Tamil film 'Kanchana', the film aims to raise awareness about the third gender and attempts to highlight the importance of inclusivity. On paper, the idea may have appeared great- a film on trans community, with dollops of horror and comedy thrown in and with Akshay Kumar leading the film- what could go wrong with the film, the makers must have thought. Yet, all these factors and a few more- spirals 'Laxmii' into a bottomless pit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kumar plays a liberal Muslim man called Asif, who runs an organisation that debunks myths around ghosts and evil spirits. He believes that there are no ghosts and if he ever happens to see one, he would wear bangles. Alarming statement from a man, who goes around educating people about the evils of superstition, who tries to find logic in everything and who himself has married a Hindu girl called Rashmi (Kiara Advani). Yet, he thinks it's okay to wear bangles as a sign of defeat. Unbelievable that its 2020 and Bollywood is still churning out such stupid stereotypes with absolute nonchalance in a movie that has a progressive theme!</p>

<p>Asif and Rashmi eloped three years ago and decide its time to face Rashmi's family who has so far disapproved their alliance. During their visit, Asif starts behaving erratically, and that leads to the family to speculate whether he has been possessed by an evil spirit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the garb of being woke, relevant and funny at the same time- the film becomes a 2 hrs 20-minute cringe-fest where the jokes are not funny, the horror is too predictable and a theme that tries to appease too many people at the same time without making any impact whatsoever. The plot not just tries to talk of the third gender but it also slyly makes its leading man a Muslim to appease the actor's wider fan base. Lawrence makes everything too obvious. There is nothing left for the audience to interpret. A Muslim man talks of transgender god <em>Ardhnarishwar</em> with as much ease as a Hindu family calls a <em>Pir baba</em> to get rid of an evil spirit from their home. In Lawrence's world- all communities live harmoniously.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While watching the film, I had so many questions. Why were there songs arbitrarily placed in the film? Before the 'Burj Khalifa' song, Kumar tells Advani 'Come, let me take you into my dreams' and the next moment the two are dancing to a bizarre song in atrocious outfits. Every actor is overacting, every song is out of place, some characters disappear in the middle of the narrative without any explanation and there are scenes written in the screenplay that make no sense at all.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sharad Kelkar and Akshay Kumar, both play eunuchs in the film. While the actors are quite convincing in their parts- they get the walk and the talk right- one can't help but wonder that why would the makers not cast an actual transgender actor for the main role. Sure a film bankrolled on Kumar's name works more- but couldn't they have cast a transgender person in place of Kelkar? Wouldn't that make the theme of the movie more effective?</p>

<p>Ultimately, 'Laxmii' is a shoddy film with a badly written screenplay that grossly misrepresents the trans community- makes a mockery of the idea of inclusivity and tries to appease people with a superficial storyline.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Akshay Kumar's 'Laxmii' won't make you laugh, it won't spook you either. It will just leave you angry, frustrated and full of questions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Actor-filmmaker Raghava Lawrence made some announcements on his social media pages on Thursday. The filmmaker announced the sequel 2005 horror-comedy Chandramukhi. The sequel would star Rajinikanth and will also have Lawrence playing a key role.<br />

The filmmaker also stated that he would be donating Rs 3 crore towards coronavirus relief work and the amount will be distributed among several organisations including PM CARES fund and Tamil Nadu CM relief fund.</p>

Minutes later, as the two hurriedly take their clothes off, the girl’s fiance comes knocking at their door. The girl pushes Kabir away but he is in no mood to listen and wants to do it anyway. As the girl flares up and pushes him away, he grabs a knife&nbsp;lying on the counter next to them and threatens her to have sex. The two stare at each other, until better sense prevails, and Kabir leaves the house. A poignant moment in the film that defines how Kabir is – an impulsive, short-tempered man-child who wants everything to go his way, always.</p>

<p>Writer-director Sandeep Vanga Reddy remakes his Telugu debut 'Arjun Reddy'&nbsp;in Hindi and keeps the story and screenplay more or less the same. Dr Kabir Singh ( Shahid Kapoor), who states he is ‘not a rebel without a cause’ unabashedly, falls in love with college junior Preeti Sikka (Kiara Advani). Kabir is a college bully and in more ways than one – lets the entire campus know that Preeti is his girl and no one is allowed to even speak to her without his permission. He takes extra interest in her, makes her his student, takes classes outside the classroom for her and eventually a meek, almost-mute Preeti falls for him. Thinks are picture perfect even when Kabir graduates and moves to Mussoorie for masters.</p>

<p>It's only when the two complete their college and want to get married, does the problem start. Preeti belongs to a conservative family who is in no mood to get her married to a brash, short-tempered boy. She gets married off and he finds solace in addiction. The film thus explores&nbsp;Kabir’s journey towards self-destruction, where dejected in love, he becomes more reckless and remains constantly intoxicated- hoping to forget Preeti and the pain of separation.</p>

<p>Reddy delivers a detailed screenplay and Shahid Kapoor, as the rebellious, womaniser Kabir Singh delivers a stupefying performance. Over the years, Shahid has proved time and again that given a good script- he can deliver. He brings naivety and brashness in equal amount to his character. You hate him for being such an ill-mannered, abusive man who refuses to move on but at the same time smile at his naivety, his vulnerability and feel bad for what has happened to him. You hate his Kabir Singh, you are infuriated even and that's how powerful Shahid’s performance is. He plays a character 10 years younger to his actual age- but Shahid seamlessly fits in making his act stand out. This undoubtedly&nbsp;is his best performance since ‘Haider’.</p>

<p>Kiara Advani too impresses as the vulnerable Preeti who may appear meek and shy in the beginning, but eventually turns out to be quite a rebel herself! The actress brings an innocence to her character and with limited lines, emotes through eyes. It took us a while to notice Kiara’s talent, she made her debut in 2014 in 'Fugly'&nbsp;but it was only after ‘Lust Stories’ in 2018&nbsp;that people took notice of her. ‘Kabir Singh’ reiterates the fact that she is a good performer and can manage to hold her own.</p>

<p>Another actor who stands out is Soham Majumdar who plays Shiva, Kabir’s best friend who stays by Kabir’s side even when his own family turns their back towards him. Shiva is the friend that everyone needs and Majumdar plays the role with utmost dedication.</p>

<p>While the film has incredible performances from its actors, the story remains a major problem. It is 2019, a time when so much has been discussed in terms of women rights, yet filmmakers find it okay to glorify toxic masculinity in a three-hour long film.</p>

<p>Romanticising the pain of heartbreak has been a favourite theme for filmmakers since time immemorial. But at a time when the world is witnessing #MeToo movement, how is it okay to show a leading man who openly fat shames, hits women at the drop of a hat, and abuses anyone and everyone? The film celebrates toxic masculinity in&nbsp;the garb of portraying realism. It is a story from a man’s perspective where everyone is nonchalant about how wrong he is. ‘Yes, he is a flawed character. So what?’ seems to be the argument always.</p>

<p>The unbalanced characterisation of Kabir and Preeti aggravates the issues a lot more. Had they shown Preeti’s character arc in as much detail as Kabir’s, I would have still been okay. But its a 174 minutes long ordeal to watch Kabir destroying his world all in the name of heartbreak. In the second half, the film is overstretched with Kabir inflicting pain on himself again and again. He is hurt and angry- we get it. No point stretching it.</p>

<p>The film has some incredible music by a gamut of composers who enable the narrative to a great extent. Some great cameos by Kamini Kaushal, Suresh Oberoi, Arjan Bajwa, and Adil Hussain- makes the film more impactful.</p>

'Kabir Singh' review: Shahid Kapoor is outstanding in a film that glorifies toxic masculinity

<p>It's not easy to outshine Akshay Kumar in a comedy. Akshay Kumar has, over the years, created a niche of sorts in this genre and has delivered some memorable performances in films that have over the years attained cult status. But in debutant filmmaker Raj Mehta film 'Good Newwz, Kumar underplays his character Varun Batra and hands the baton to Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh as he plays the boisterous, loud Honey Batra effortlessly. Dosanjh is so good in the film, that in scenes where the two actors share the frame, he outshines Kumar easily.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A comedy of errors, 'Good Newwz' pits Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor- as the sophisticated, classy Mumbai-based Batras against the loud, boisterous Batras (Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani) from Chandigarh. The two couples have been trying to have children for the past few years, we are told, and after numerous attempts, opt for IVF(in-vitro fertilization) process. The lab at the clinic does a goof up and that leads to the two uncanny parent-to-be come face to face and chaos ensues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The characterization is quite apt. The two couples are as different as chalk and cheese and share DNA's of their unborn children. Deepti and Varun are a working couple living at an upscale apartment in Mumbai. Career oriented, the couple represents millions of similar urban couples in India who give their work the top priority and try for children only when they realise they don't have too much time on their hand. Honey and Monika Batra, on the other hand, are relatively younger, come from an affluent family in Chandigarh and even though they are up to date with modernities of big cities, they are still steeped in traditional values and leave a lot in the hands of 'Mata rani'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Writers Jyoti Kapoor, Rishabh Sharma along with Mehta (who serves as the co-writer as well) tend to spopoon feed the audience with too many details but dialogues and the sly dig at the class divide is on point. There is ample regional stereotyping in the way Honey and Monika's characters are depicted. They are loud and mispronounce almost all English words include 'Spam'(Sperm), 'Flesh'(Flush) and 'Hornors'( Honors). But such a depiction is important to highlight the stark difference between the two couples, perhaps. While Deepti and Varun are not okay with the mixed DNA of their unborn child, Honey and Monika are concerned for the well being of the baby considering Deepti is a busy working professional. The two couples judge each other owing to the cultural and demographical differences throughout.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dosanjh is easily the best thing about the film 'Good Newwz' and makes Honey an extension of his personality. There is plenty of toilet humour, but Dosanjh and Kumar deliver those lines with absolute ease. Dosanjh lights up the screen every time he is in it and makes Honey an endearing, caring man. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, plays the weary Varun Batra who is not too convinced about having children even though he goes along with whatever his wife Deepti wants. The two men are strikingly different. Kumar, who has played the goofball in several films in the past, sometimes struggles to fit into his character. In comparison, Dosanjh shines and easily dominates every frame.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two women- though are pitch-perfect. Kapoor, once again, reminds us why she is still celebrated as a star actress in Bollywood. As Deepti, the ambitious woman who now wants to have a child, Kapoor is brilliant. Advani, relatively new compared to her co-stars, makes Monika endearing and naive. She is perhaps the most positive character in the story and your heart goes out to her on several occasions.&nbsp;Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra also have delightful cameos as the doctor couple at the IVF clinic who mistakenly create the sperm swap.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film takes time to take off though. The film opens with Varun and Deepti and their struggle to get pregnant. But once the other Batras come in, it's one of hell of a laugh riot. 'Good Newwz', also, very beautifully highlights the constant pressure that several modern couples in India face to procreate and have children- even though they are not too interested.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The good news about 'Good Newwz' is that it makes for a perfect watch as we close this year. Go and laugh out loud with the Batras this holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

Akshay Kumar has, over the years, created a niche of sorts in this genre and has delivered some memorable performances in films that have over the years attained cult status. But in debutant filmmaker Raj Mehta film 'Good Newwz, Kumar underplays his character Varun Batra and hands the baton to Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh as he plays the boisterous, loud Honey Batra effortlessly. Dosanjh is so good in the film, that in scenes where the two actors share the frame, he outshines Kumar easily. A comedy of errors, 'Good Newwz' pits Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor- as the sophisticated, classy Mumbai-based Batras against the loud, boisterous Batras (Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani) from Chandigarh. The two couples have been trying to have children for the past few years, we are told, and after numerous attempts, opt for IVF(in-vitro fertilization) process. The lab at the clinic does a goof up and that leads to the two uncanny parent-to-be come face to face and chaos ensues. The characterization is quite apt. The two couples are as different as chalk and cheese and share DNA's of their unborn children. Deepti and Varun are a working couple living at an upscale apartment in Mumbai. Career oriented, the couple represents millions of similar urban couples in India who give their work the top priority and try for children only when they realise they don't have too much time on their hand. Honey and Monika Batra, on the other hand, are relatively younger, come from an affluent family in Chandigarh and even though they are up to date with modernities of big cities, they are still steeped in traditional values and leave a lot in the hands of 'Mata rani'. Writers Jyoti Kapoor, Rishabh Sharma along with Mehta (who serves as the co-writer as well) tend to spopoon feed the audience with too many details but dialogues and the sly dig at the class divide is on point. There is ample regional stereotyping in the way Honey and Monika's characters are depicted. They are loud and mispronounce almost all English words include 'Spam'(Sperm), 'Flesh'(Flush) and 'Hornors'( Honors). But such a depiction is important to highlight the stark difference between the two couples, perhaps. While Deepti and Varun are not okay with the mixed DNA of their unborn child, Honey and Monika are concerned for the well being of the baby considering Deepti is a busy working professional. The two couples judge each other owing to the cultural and demographical differences throughout. Dosanjh is easily the best thing about the film 'Good Newwz' and makes Honey an extension of his personality. There is plenty of toilet humour, but Dosanjh and Kumar deliver those lines with absolute ease. Dosanjh lights up the screen every time he is in it and makes Honey an endearing, caring man. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, plays the weary Varun Batra who is not too convinced about having children even though he goes along with whatever his wife Deepti wants. The two men are strikingly different. Kumar, who has played the goofball in several films in the past, sometimes struggles to fit into his character. In comparison, Dosanjh shines and easily dominates every frame. The two women- though are pitch-perfect. Kapoor, once again, reminds us why she is still celebrated as a star actress in Bollywood. As Deepti, the ambitious woman who now wants to have a child, Kapoor is brilliant. Advani, relatively new compared to her co-stars, makes Monika endearing and naive. She is perhaps the most positive character in the story and your heart goes out to her on several occasions. Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra also have delightful cameos as the doctor couple at the IVF clinic who mistakenly create the sperm swap. The film takes time to take off though. The film opens with Varun and Deepti and their struggle to get pregnant. But once the other Batras come in, it's one of hell of a laugh riot. 'Good Newwz', also, very beautifully highlights the constant pressure that several modern couples in India face to procreate and have children- even though they are not too interested. The good news about 'Good Newwz' is that it makes for a perfect watch as we close this year. Go and laugh out loud with the Batras this holiday season.

<p>You might have heard of Akshay Kumar’s professionalism and punctuality but he gave a live example to his director recently while shooting for upcoming film ‘Good Newwz’.</p>

<p>The actor who is currently undergoing physiotherapy sessions for his back injury filmed for a song even while he was in pain as it was pre-scheduled and Akshay Kumar didn’t want his director or the fellow cast to face inconvenience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This happened a few weeks ago when Akshay Kumar was to shoot for a song for his film but he woke up with severe back pain owing a back injury that he suffered a couple of months back. It didn’t stop him though and he went on to the set.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Film director Raj Mehta cited in a published report said, "Akshay&nbsp;was also running a fever on the night before the shoot. We weren't expecting him to show up, but surprisingly, he did, and even managed to pull off the choreography set by Bosco [Martis]. It was a relief for him as getting the entire cast together for the song on other dates would have been very difficult considering the film has big names like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Talking about the upcoming film, the actor revealed, "Bhool Bhulaiyaa was the first-ever horror film that I watched. Being a huge fan of the first one, It's super exciting to get the opportunity to be a part of the franchise".</p>

<p>The comic supernatural thriller will be helmed by Anees Bazmee, unlike the first one which was directed by Priyadarshan.</p>

<p>"It's my first time being directed by Anees sir and I'm looking forward to the experience. It's being produced by the makers of my most special film so it feels like home working with Cine1 and T-Series again," she added.</p>

<p>"I always look forward to working with Gen-Z actors, this is my first collaboration with Kartik and Kiara. I am sure they will bring new energy to the table, hoping to have a blast," said Bazmee.</p>

<p>The highly-anticipated horror-comedy is scheduled to go on floors in October this year and will hit the screens on July 31, 2020.</p>

<p>The first part of the film was a remake of the Malayalam blockbuster 'Manichitrathazhu'&nbsp;and starred Vidya Balan, Shiney Ahuja and Amisha Patel in the lead roles.</p>

<p>Bollywood's latest pin-up girl Kiara Advani celebrated her 27th birthday in style on Thursday night. The actress, who is currently riding high on the success of her latest film 'Kabir Singh' threw a big birthday bash at a suburban restaurant in Mumbai which had Shahid Kapoor, Athiya Shetty, Karan Johar and others in attendance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Perhaps what drew the maximum attention was when post party, Kiara left in actor Sidharth Malhotra's car. Now, for those coming in late, the two actors have been cast in Vishnu Varadhan's 'Shershaah', which tells the story of Kargil hero Captain Vikram Batra who was martyred at the age of 24.</p>
