What’s the controversy around the card?
Donald Trump allegedly sent a card to Epstein in 2003 when the latter turned 50. The card came under scrutiny after it was first reported by the Wall Street Journal in July 2025. Instead of a direct message, the original card was structured as a fictional dialogue between ‘Donald’ and ‘Jeffery’. Also read: Jimmy Kimmel mocks Donald Trump as he skips son’s wedding: ‘He loves Don Jr. He just loves the United States more’ The card begins with a line credited to “Voice Over” that reads, “There must be more to life than having everything.” Donald then states, “Yes, there is, but I won't tell you what it is,” noting that “we have certain things in common, Jeffrey,” and that “enigmas never age, have you noticed that?” To that, Jeffrey replies, “As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you." The message ended with the line: “A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.” The White House has repeatedly denied the involvement of the President in sending the card. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took to X (formerly Twitter) in September and stated, “As I have said all along, it's very clear President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it. President Trump's legal team will continue to aggressively pursue litigation.” Also read: George Clooney speaks in support of Jimmy Kimmel amid Melania Trump joke outcry Trump first filed a $10 billion lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and two reporters in July. Then when the case was dismissed in April, Trump refiled the lawsuit the following month, adding the newspaper's parent company Dow Jones, media mogul Rupert Murdoch and News Corp CEO Robert Thomson to the complaint. Jeffery Epstein was found dead in his jail cell on August 10, 2019, at New York City's Metropolitan Correctional Center, back in 2003. He was charged with sex trafficking minors in federal court the year he died.

Jimmy Kimmel has once again taken a jab at US President Donald Trump on his 80th birthday. The comedian shared a satirical birthday card that had similarities to the card that Trump had allegedly sent to Epstein on his 50th birthday.

It was US President Donald Trump’s birthday on June 14, and comedian and late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel obviously had to wish his favourite subject of jokes. Fans of Kimmel would know that the comedian and Trump have had a long-running public feud with both being critical of each other. Jimmy Kimmel's birthday card for Donald Trump On Sunday, as Trump turned 80, Kimmel shared a satirical birthday card on Instagram that appeared to mimic a controversial card which Trump had allegedly sent to financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on his 50th birthday in 2003. “Happy 80th, Donald! A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday, and may every day be another wonderful secret,” the parody card read. Kimmel captioned the post, “Happy #80,” and tagged Trump's official Instagram account. The alleged birthday card closely resembled the alleged Epstein birthday card, but with some changes. In his card, Kimmel replaced Epstein's name with Trump's and swapped the original illustration of a slender female silhouette with a caricature seemingly mocking the president's physique.

US President Donald Trump’s absence from his son’s wedding did not go unnoticed for late night host Jimmy Kimmel who turned it into a comedy segment during a recent episode of his show. Donald Trump Jr recently married Bettina Anderson during a private ceremony held on an island in the Bahamas. His siblings Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump but their father was not present. The president later took to Truth Social to explain the reason of his absence and stated that government related responsibilities and his dedication to the country prevented him from travelling to the wedding. Soon after, Kimmel sarcastically suggested “Daddy Donald” loved the United States more than attending his son's wedding and poked fun at the official explanation. Jimmy Kimmel said, “It was a small ceremony with about 40 guests, none of whom were his father. Daddy Donald sent his RSVP via Truth Social. He wrote, ‘While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so. I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time'.” “See, he can be warm when he wants to. He loves Don Jr. He just loves the United States more. He had circumstances pertaining to the government to get to and also flying to a private island makes him miss his friend Jeffrey who he lost.”

Kimmel then continued joking about Trump by pointing out that the president still found time to attend other public events, including “UFC fights with Vanilla Ice,” but not his son's wedding. Kimmel then joked that without his father at the wedding, Donald Trump Jr must have missed Trump's long speeches about political topics. Kimmel also mentioned that reports suggested that that Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson are still planning another celebration at the White House, where Trump and Melania Trump are expected to attend. Kimmel hilariously pointed out that that how awkward it would look if they skipped that event as well! Before marrying Bettina Anderson, Donald Trump Jr. was married to Vanessa Trump from 2005 until their divorce in 2018. He was then engaged to former Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Jimmy Kimmel has extended his contract with Disney-owned ABC for a year, sources said Monday, months after his late-night show was yanked off the air in a confrontation with President Donald Trump's administration. The late-night host will continue to front "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" into the middle of 2027, a person familiar with the matter told AFP. His contract had been due to expire in May of next year. The move comes after a spat pitting the White House against Kimmel in the wake of the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel, who frequently skewers Trump and his inner circle, annoyed conservatives when he said "the MAGA gang" was trying to exploit the college campus murder. Trump's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr appeared to threaten the licenses of ABC affiliates broadcasting the show unless they demanded Kimmel's removal. Two companies that own dozens of those affiliates -- Nexstar and Sinclair -- then announced they would be removing the show from their schedules, prompting Disney to suspend the show nationwide. But after a huge public and Hollywood backlash, Kimmel was back on the air after a week-long hiatus, delivering a blockbuster monologue in which he slammed government attempts to censor him as "anti-American." He has continued to take aim at Trump, mocking him for apparently falling asleep in meetings, and for mispronouncing the names of international leaders with whom he boasts he has brokered peace deals. Trump, meanwhile, shows no sign of giving up his crusade to get Kimmel cancelled. At a revamped awards ceremony at the Kennedy Center on Sunday night, he called the funnyman "horrible," as he predicted bumper ratings for the show. "If I can’t beat out Jimmy Kimmel in terms of talent, then I don’t think I should be president," he said.

Jimmy Kimmel in talks with Disney to resume his late-night show? Here's the truth

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), a Democrat, representing New York's 14th District, strongly pushed back on Friday (September 19) against a resolution introduced by Republican lawmakers that sought to commemorate the life of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on September 10 during a public event at Utah Valley University. Ocasio-Cortez, speaking on the House floor, condemned the violence that led to Kirk’s death, calling it a “horrific and vile act of political violence.” However, she criticised efforts to recast Kirk as a unifying figure, reminding Congress of his controversial views and past statements. Also Read: A mother, a husband, and a scandal that took over Indonesia: The shocking story of Norma “We need to be truthful about who Charlie Kirk really was,” Ocasio-Cortez said. Posting later on X (formerly Twitter), AOC emphasised that condemning political violence does not require celebrating Kirk’s ideology. “We can reject the attack without glorifying what he stood for,” she wrote.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams Trump administration
She also accused the Trump administration of using Kirk’s death as a political weapon. AOC criticised reported efforts to suppress free speech, citing the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show after he mocked Kirk. According to her, the administration—along with the FCC—is using the moment to intimidate media outlets and silence dissent. “It’s disgraceful,” she said, “that this tragedy is being twisted into an excuse to threaten broadcasters and muzzle critics of the administration.” Ocasio-Cortez called on ABC to stand firm against what she described as escalating censorship and not to contribute to a dangerous precedent of political interference in the media.

The 79-year-old Republican, who has sued several major media companies this year, also repeated his long-standing claim that coverage of him was "97 per cent bad." Earlier in the day, Trump, on his way back from a trip to Britain, condemned evening shows on network television, saying, “all they do is hit Trump.” Trump defends Brendan Carr Trump also defended Federal Communications Commission (FCC) member Brendan Carr, who this week threatened TV broadcasters after late-night host Jimmy Kimmel joked about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. ABC responded by suspending Kimmel's show indefinitely, a move that has fuelled an intense debate over free speech and government overreach. Now, Trump has labelled Carr "an incredible American patriot with courage". “He loves our country, and he's a tough guy,” the POTUS said about Carr, who threatened the licenses of ABC affiliates that broadcast Jimmy Kimmel's show. Amid criticism over Jimmy Kimmel show suspension, shots fired at ABC TV station in Sacramento

Late-night comedy hosts took jabs at US President Donald Trump a day after Jimmy Kimmel’s show was suspended following his comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. ABC pulled the plug on Kimmel’s show on Wednesday following his remarks on Monday and Tuesday’s episodes about Kirk’s assassination. In a show of solidarity, several late-night comedy hosts like Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart took to their own shows to react to the move, mocking the US President, who had celebrated the suspension.
‘How dare you, sir!’
Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show and claimed that the program was ‘government-approved’. He referred to Trump as ‘Our Great Father’ and ‘Dear Leader’ and even joked about Trump’s recent visit to the United Kingdom. Stewart played a clip of a reporter’s question about Kimmel and whether free speech was under attack in America. “How dare you, sir! How dare you, sir!” Stewart bellowed. “What outfit are you with, sir, the Antifa-Herald Tribune?”

Jon Stewart’s first monologue since Jimmy Kimmel was fired: pic.twitter.com/T1HkIgfViQ— Spencer Hakimian (@SpencerHakimian) September 19, 2025

When the audience booed, Stewart, in a panic, tried to shush them. A group of correspondents delivered a message in unison and showered the president with over-the-top praise, pretending that they lived in a dictatorship.
Stephen Colbert defends Kimmel
Host Stephen Colbert, whose Late Night show was cancelled last month by CBS said he stands with Kimmel and his staff.

🚨NEW: Stephen Colbert's opening tonight will forever be remembered as one of the most powerful moments of late-night comedy in modern history. This is a must-watch. Damn. 🔥 pic.twitter.com/9jpKKMIcyx— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CalltoActivism) September 19, 2025

"That is blatant censorship, and it always starts small," Colbert said, and he referred to the administration's effort to rename the Gulf of Mexico. "And if ABC thinks this is going to satisfy the regime, they are woefully naive." Colbert’s show was cancelled as the channel cited financial reasons. However, most felt Trump had a role to play as Colbert was well known for openly criticizing the President.
Jimmy Fallon reacts
On NBC, host Jimmy Fallon cracked a couple of jokes on Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show and then became serious for a moment.

Jimmy reacts to ABC’s decision to suspend @JimmyKimmel after pressure from the FCC, leaving everyone thinking WTF? #FallonTonight pic.twitter.com/v5wLrPEAOM— The Tonight Show (@FallonTonight) September 19, 2025
