Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has said veteran off-spinner Ravi Ashwin doesn't deserve a place in the white-ball cricket team. Before the World Cup started, there was a lot of talk of dew playing a role later in the evening but the conditions have stayed stable to the larger extent so far and Gill reiterated the same about Pune.

“I don't think the pitch changed much, honestly, it was a good batting wicket.”

“The approach while chasing, Rohit has been batting exceptionally well and he's been all guns blazing, especially while chasing. And I think that's giving us the right momentum.

“Then it's easier for the batsmen who are coming in when the run rate is around four or five in chasing.”

Gill was also all praise for senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli - India's top two run getters in the ongoing ODI World Cup and said that he tries to learn from them.

“To see them how they go about their business in World Cup and in big games is what I always try to learn from them.

“I think there's a fine line between sometimes being too aggressive or going in the shell, especially playing big games.

“But I think the way they play, the way their mindset is playing those big games in the World Cup is what I try to learn from them,” added the opening batter.

Kohli hit his first century since 2019 in last year's Asia Cup against Afghanistan which was played in T20 format. That was also Kohli's first and only T20 century. After that, Kohli scored a Test ton against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series earlier this year before unleashing himself in the ODIs.

Every since the century against Afghanistan, Kohli has scored 1887 runs at an average of 55.57 in 40 games across formats that also includes seven centuries.

Notably, Kohli is also one of the two players to feature in both 2011 and 2023 squad with the other being Ravichandran Ashwin who made a dramatic comeback to the squad at the last moment.

India start their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8 and play two warm-up games before that, that is, against England on September 30 and Netherlands on October 3.

A government minister listed recent BCCI earnings in parliament on Tuesday which revealed revenue of $919 million and expenditure of $370 million for the year to March 2022, leaving a surplus of $549 million.

One of the players who failed to perform so far is Sanju Samson. The wicketkeeper-batsman, touted as one of the most talented batsmen in India, has had a horrible series with scores of 12 and seven in the first two T20Is, respectively.

Speaking about Samson, former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel told Cricbuzz that Sanju hasn't cashed in on the opportunities he has availed so far and the time is probably running out for him.

“Every time India loses, we look at the negative points. Throughout the white-ball series, there has been talk about the need for batters to bat long and it is something that has been missing so far. Every time Samson is not in the squad, we talk about him, but he has not cashed in on the opportunities he has availed of so far. Probably time is running out for him, maybes yes or maybe no,” Patel told Cricbuzz.

“Samson has been getting a lot of opportunities, to be honest, he is just not making the most of the opportunities that he is getting. There was only one batter who looked comfortable and that was Tilak Varma,” he added.

In the ODI series prior to the T20Is, Sanju played in the second and third match, scoring a fifty in the third game after failing in the second match during which he score just nine runs.

Skipper Hardik Pandya also acknowledged that batters need to be more responsible after second consecutive failure in the second T20I which India lost by two wickets. India, trailing 0-2 in the series, will face Windies next on August 8 in Guyana in third T20I before moving to the USA for the last two matches.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the BCCI got in touch with Saha and decided to constitute a three-member committee to investigate the matter.

The WhatsApp messages sent by the journalist had a threatening tone, “You did not call. Never again will I interview you. I don’t take insults kindly. And I will remember this.”

Cricket will make a comeback at the Asian Games in Hangzhou later this year but India, the game's financial engine, is unlikely to field teams owing to existing commitments.

Few expected India's men's team to compete in the September Games risking injury to the players ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia from Oct. 16.

Participation of the women's team, who will compete in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July-August, now also looks unlikely.

"As far as the Asian Games in Hangzhou is concerned, a final decision on whether to send both men's and women's teams will be taken later and based on our existing commitments," BCCI secretary Jay Shah told Reuters.

The Games coincides with the women team's limited-overs tour of England where they are scheduled to play three one-dayers and an equal number of Twenty20 Internationals.

Hosting India is a lucrative proposition for any board and Shah said honouring bilateral commitment was particularly important in a post-coronavirus world.

"The board firmly believes in honouring its bilateral commitments.

"I feel in good touch. As I said, I was out of runs not out of form, so hopefully, I can put some more numbers on the board leading into this new year," he further said.
