<p>Creative director Sabato De Sarno began the show for his spring/summer 2025 collection, called “Casual grandeur”, with a tailored zipped jacket and floor-length trousers slit at the front bottom, opening up over sneakers.</p>

<p>Models wore draped or sleeveless dresses in various colours adorned with golden buckles as well as see-through lace frocks.</p>

<p>There were looks that mirrored 1960s styles with short A-line skirts, structured jackets and shorts. Long coats were worn over tank tops and long denim trousers. Some coats were adorned with sparkling fringes.</p>

<p>Models walked down a red catwalk with lighting ranging from white to warmer shades, nodding to the "moment the sun dives into the sea at the end of an August day", De Sarno said in show notes.</p>

<p>“It’s the moment we find ourselves. This collection is a tribute to those moments, and an invitation to stop, seek your own moment," he said, as the show drew Oscar winner Jessica Chastain and Italian tennis star and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner among celebrity guests.</p>

<p>Gucci's new designer Sabato De Sarno sent out a glamorous, skin-baring lineup of minimalist designs for his first fashion show on Friday, drawing praise for a highly anticipated debut which owner Kering hopes will help revive sales at its flagship brand.</p>

<p>Models filed down a darkened, concrete runway at the label's Milan headquarters, a former aircraft factory, parading short shorts paired with suit jackets, strapless mini-dresses, trim sweatshirts and tank tops with plunging necklines.</p>

<p>De Sarno "knows what we need at the moment, clean luxe sportswear that isn't cheeky sexy," said fashion critic Kenneth Richard, editor in chief of industry publication The Impression.</p>

<p>Federico Giglio, chief executive and business manager of Italy-based high-end fashion retailer Giglio.com, said the collection was "a new way to see luxury - wearable without the need for excess, that keeps with the times."</p>

<p>Friday's catwalk presentation serves as the aesthetic foundation of a broad reset of the French group's prized label -- key to creating buzz and reigniting sales, even if the new designs won't hit stores until early next year.</p>

<p>Thomas Chauvet, analyst with Citi, said the first glimpse of De Sarno's vision for the brand showed "a clear evolution from prior brand aesthetics, likely to attract slightly older demographics and command higher price points."</p>

<p>"Gucci is the opportunity to fall in love with fashion, ancora," De Sarno said in a post on Instagram in the run-up to the show, using the Italian word for "again."</p>

<p>The brand plastered the word "ancora" on huge advertisements that marked the date of the show, alongside the Gucci logo -- in white lettering, on a burgundy backdrop -- covering buildings around the world, including in New York, Chengdu, Bangkok and London.</p>

<p>A forecast of rain prompted a last-minute venue shift to the Milan headquarters rather than outdoors in the swanky Brera district.</p>

<p>Debut collections can generate mixed reactions, and even positive press reviews are not always a proxy for future commercial success. However, the fashion show will "definitely impact investors' perception of De Sarno's capacity to trigger an inflexion in Gucci's aesthetics," said Antoine Belge, analyst with Exane BNP Paribas, before the show.</p>

<p>"The climax is not for right away -- it's sometimes the second or third shows that are the most important," Kering CEO and Chairman Francois-Henri Pinault told reporters ahead of the show, before greeting front-row guests Julia Roberts and Ryan Gosling.</p>

<p>One of fashion's biggest success stories in recent years, Gucci has fallen behind rivals like LVMH-owned Louis Vuitton and Dior that capitalized on strong post-pandemic appetite for luxury goods.</p>

<p>At their current price, Kering shares are trading at the equivalent of around 14 times expected earnings over the next 12 months, according to LSEG data. That forward PE compares to 42 for Hermes and 22 for Moncler.</p>

<p>Gucci creative director Sabato De Sarno takes to the runway in Milan on Friday, in a high-stakes designer debut for the Italian label’s owner, French luxury group Kering (PRTP.PA).</p>

<p>De Sarno’s Gucci catwalk presentation – one of the industry’s most highly-anticipated shows this year – will serve as an aesthetic reset for the brand, aimed at reigniting sales, but it is also the first major test of a sweeping overhaul at Kering.</p>

<p>Efforts to regain momentum at the label, which accounts for the bulk of sales and profits at Kering, have prompted broad change in the group’s top management.</p>

<p>The group has also taken steps to broaden its revenue sources, announcing plans to buy high-end perfumer Creed in June and a 30% stake in fashion label Valentino in July.</p>

<p>Although it was one of the biggest success stories in fashion in recent years, Kering's star label struggled to capitalize on a post-pandemic rebound that fuelled surging sales at rivals, such as LVMH-owned Louis Vuitton and Dior.</p>

<p>Group managing director Jean-Francois Palus is now stepping in to run the brand while the company seeks a more permanent replacement for chief executive Marco Bizzarri, who leaves following De Sarno’s first show Friday.</p>

<p>Bizzarri and the label’s previous creative director Alessandro Michele had been credited with the brand’s soaring success, doubling sales between 2015 and 2019 to nearly 10 billion euros, but lost ground to rivals, who invested heavily in marketing during the pandemic.</p>

<p>In the run-up to De Sarno's debut, executives at Gucci have been focused on timeless fashions and higher-priced products – and showcasing them in specialized shops catering to ultra-wealthy clients – while increasing marketing and the number of collections.</p>

<p>Kering may need to invest more to catch up with rivals like LVMH and Hermes, potentially prompting a revision of margin expectations, analysts say.</p>

<p>“We don’t think that a margin reset would be badly received by the market,” said Carole Madjo, an analyst with Barclays.</p>

<p>De Sarno's new design style will be key to reigniting brand heat, not only for drawing shoppers into boutiques, but can also serve as a template to follow as stores are refurbished.</p>

<p>The designer's first major advertising campaign for Gucci made public in August, features Daria Werbowy, a model who had retreated from the fashion scene after dominating the runway in the early 2000s, appearing in a slim bathing suit and chunky, gold “Marina Chain” jewellery.</p>

<p>Netizens are bashing Harry Styles and Gucci for their new ad campaign, which features the English singer and songwriter posing next to a toddler's bed mattress in a teddy bear shirt. In light of the controversial Balenciaga ad campaigns which featured BDSM-themed teddy bears, many netizens are slamming luxury fashion brand Gucci for using "inappropriate imagery" for their promotions. And, some even noted that both brands are owned by The Kering Group.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Unveiling the 'HA HA HA' campaign on social media, Gucci wrote, "A performance piece starring Harry Styles and the Gucci HA HA HA collection, discover the campaign at the link in bio.”</p>

<p>On Gucci's website, the meaning behind the campaign was elaborated. "The House presents the Gucci HA HA HA campaign featuring British singer-songwriter and actor, Harry Styles. Arising from the friendship between him and creative director Alessandro Michele, play is at the very heart of the collection, which uses menswear as a tool of the avant-garde," it read.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Captured by Mark Borthwick, the series of images sees Harry Styles showcase the 'dream wardrobe' defined by the eccentric use of romantic accents, whimsical prints, vintage details, and the expressive emotionality of the individual," Gucci's site concluded.&nbsp;</p>

And, some even noted that both brands are owned by The Kering Group. Unveiling the 'HA HA HA' campaign on social media, Gucci wrote, "A performance piece starring Harry Styles and the Gucci HA HA HA collection, discover the campaign at the link in bio.” On Gucci's website, the meaning behind the campaign was elaborated. "The House presents the Gucci HA HA HA campaign featuring British singer-songwriter and actor, Harry Styles. Arising from the friendship between him and creative director Alessandro Michele, play is at the very heart of the collection, which uses menswear as a tool of the avant-garde," it read. "Captured by Mark Borthwick, the series of images sees Harry Styles showcase the 'dream wardrobe' defined by the eccentric use of romantic accents, whimsical prints, vintage details, and the expressive emotionality of the individual," Gucci's site concluded.
