Netizens in China have been claiming that the Humvees used by the Chinese military are "hollow". There is speculation that the Chinese Dongfeng failed to protect the lives of Chinese soldiers in Galwan. Beijing still hasn't disclosed the number of its soldiers killed in Ladakh during the clash on June 15.

Reports in China say that the country's top manufacturer of military vehicles may have cheated the government. It is a very serious allegation for any country, especially for China.

The report was published on the website of the Chinese military. It says that a Netizen in China, a man named Zhou had to apologise. Apologise for what? Spreading rumours, said the website.

Zhou had uploaded a post on WeChat. He said the Dongfeng Humvee had failed to protect China's soldiers. Zhou asserted that&nbsp;the poor quality of these vehicles led to the death of PLA troops on the India-China border. The post was published on August 4 and within days, the Dongfeng company reported Zhou to the police. He was arrested and made to apologise.

The Chinese military has now published an apology from Zhou. A letter allegedly signed by Zhou claims that his post was a lie. He now says his claims on the Chinese Dongfeng was just a rumour and that he is sorry. The post should have settled the issue but it did not as the story spread to other Chinese websites who began featuring stories about the Dongfeng.

In another post, a report claimed that one official of the Dongfeng Motor group is facing disciplinary action for allegedly violating “party discipline”. However, there is no mention of the India-China border standoff.&nbsp;

Another Chinese website made a similar claim. Sohu.com, a Chinese internet services company claimed not one, but two officials of the Dongfeng company have been&nbsp;facing anti-corruption investigations. Again, there was no mention of the India-China border standoff but both stories were published in June when the border tensions were at their peak.

There is only one piece that makes a clear connection between the standoff and the Humvees. It is from the Apple daily, a tabloid that is published from Hong Kong. It said poor quality steel could have been used to build these Humvees. There is also a quote from a commentator who says the claims around the faulty vehicles is believable. The owner of Apple daily was arrested under the sedition law.

The question being asked is whether he being punished for exposing China's military corruption

Dongfeng has faced corruption charges earlier, however once again the details are sketchy but in 2015, a general manager of Dongfeng was under investigation for “severe violation of discipline". Now, the company is facing similar charges again. It could be about the clashes at the border or something else.

The two sides agreed that another meeting of senior army commanders may be held soon so as to work out further steps to ensure "expeditiously" complete disengagement and de-escalation" and restoration of peace and tranquility in the border areas, the Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) said.

The nearly three-hour-long virtual talks were held under the framework of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on border affairs.

People familiar with the issues discussed at the talks said India conveyed a firm message to the Chinese side that it has to implement the disengagement process as agreed to during the four rounds of Corps Commander-level talks.

In Beijing, the Chinese foreign ministry said the two sides held a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the border situation and fully affirmed the positive progress made in disengaging the front-line border troops of the two countries and easing the situation on the ground.

The ministry said it was agreed at the talks to properly handle the remaining issues on the ground and further cool down the border situation.

However, the MEA statement did not make any reference to positive progress in disengagement as described by the Chinese foreign ministry.

The MEA said the two sides reviewed the situation in the region as well as the ongoing disengagement process.

"They agreed that early and complete disengagement of the troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and de-escalation from India-China border areas in accordance with bilateral agreement and protocols and full restoration of peace and tranquility was essential for smooth overall development of bilateral relations," it said in a statement.

The MEA said the two sides noted that this was in accordance with the agreement reached between the two Special Representatives during their telephonic conversation on July 5.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a nearly two-hour-long telephonic conversation on July 5 to bring down tension between the armies of the two countries in eastern Ladakh.

"The two sides agreed that another meeting of the Senior Commanders may be held soon so as to work out further steps to ensure expeditiously complete disengagement and de-escalation and restoration of peace and tranquility in the border areas."

The MEA said the two sides also agreed to maintain their ongoing engagements both at the diplomatic and military level, including through the meetings of the WMCC.

Naveen Srivastava, Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the MEA, led the Indian delegation at the talks, while the Chinese side was headed by Hong Liang, Director General of the Department of boundary and ocean affairs under the Chinese foreign ministry.

The Chinese foreign ministry in its statement further said the two sides stressed that they will maintain bilateral military and diplomatic dialogue and consultation in accordance with the important consensus reached by the foreign ministers of the two countries and the Special Representatives on the border issue.

Last month Trump said on social media, "We have informed both India and China that the United States is ready, willing and able to mediate or arbitrate their now raging border dispute. Thank you!"

Russia is ready to deliver MIG29 and SU30 MKI fighter jets in the shortest possible timeframe to India. This after it emerged that Indian air force plans to order over 30 fighter jets from Russia which will be a government to government deal and comes amidst the India China border tension.

WION has learnt that the Russians are ready to assess the issue of early delivery even as Moscow is currently helping Indian air force in MiG 29 modernization programme. The modernization will help increase combat capabilities and expand the functional properties of MiG-29 fighters to a level comparable to the Fourth-generation jet fighter.

Post modernization MiG 29 will allow integration of weapons of Russian and foreign production, tracking of air targets in a wide range of flight speeds and altitudes, tracking of heat-contrasting air objects &amp; perform “hidden” (without the use of radar) attacks on them. Modern materials and technologies for corrosion protection will increase the service life of MiG-29 fighters up to 40 years.

When it comes to Su-30MKI, Indian Air Force commissioned its first squadron of Su-30MKI fighter jet armed with the BrahMos-A cruise missile earlier this year in January.&nbsp;

The importance of Sukhoi jets can be gauged by the fact that it is the only Indian aircraft capable of using BrahMos supersonic missiles.

At DefExpo India 2020 BrahMos Aerospace's representative said to the Russian RIA Novosti news agency, that in two years IAF's Su-30MKIs would receive new missile for use against airborne early warning aircraft. Thus JV could enter the air-to-air missiles domain.&nbsp;

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday said her party stands firmly behind the Union government in this hour of crisis after 20 army personnel were killed in a violent face-off with Chinese troops along the LAC, and urged the Centre not to allow Chinese investments in strategically important infrastructure sectors, sources said.

At an all-party meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the West Bengal Chief Minister said India "should and will" unitedly tide over the crisis, sources in her party said.

"We stand with the government in this hour of crisis. We will win. We will put up a united fight as one nation," Banerjee was quoted as having told the meeting by a source in the TMC.

"During the meeting, our party supremo urged the Union government not to allow Chinese companies and investments in telecom, railway, aviation and other important infrastructure sectors," the TMC source said.
