LaLiga have filed a complaint to UEFA against Paris St Germain and Manchester City over alleged Financial Fair Play violations, the Spanish professional soccer league announced on Wednesday. The organisation said it would take "further legal action to the European Union, France and Switzerland" justice systems as it understands that "these clubs are continually breaching the current regulations" of financial fair play.
LaLiga said it lodged the complaint against Manchester City to UEFA in April before filing the one against PSG last week.

The Spanish league also said it was "contemplating expanding that complaint" against City due to "new data" that has come to light. Although the statement did not give any specific details, the English champions signed Norway striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund on a contract that reportedly could cost them over 300 million euros ($313 million), including his salary, agent fees and bonuses. LaLiga president Javier Tebas said last month the organisation would take legal action against the French club after Kylian Mbappe snubbed a move to Real Madrid at the 11th hour and renewed his contract with PSG until 2025.
LaLiga reacted angrily to Mbappe`s contract extension, saying PSG`s new offer to Mbappe "attacks the economic stability" of European football.

"It is scandalous that a club like PSG, which last season reported losses of more than 220 million euros ($232.32 million) after accumulating losses of more than 700 million euros in prior seasons ... with a squad cost around 650 million for this season, can close such an agreement," LaLiga said at the time.
After months of negotiations with Real Madrid, France international Mbappe ended up staying with the Ligue 1 champions for a reported annual salary of 50 million euros until 2025.

This is not the first time that LaLiga has filed complaints against "state owned clubs" PSG and Manchester City. PSG is owned by the state-run Qatar Sports Investments, while City is under Abu Dhabi ownership.
In 2017 and 2018, it had also filed complaints against the two clubs over breach of financial fair play rules, leading to sanctions by UEFA. However, City and PSG lodged appeals with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), who ruled in the two clubs` favour, a decision the Spanish league called "strange”.

LaLiga also announced it was "studying different legal options in Switzerland" against PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for "possible conflicts of interest" derived from his different roles running the French club, and his different roles in UEFA, European Club Association (ECA) and BeIN Sports.

In a dramatic shootout, Australia beat Peru to clinch their place in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which is set to be held later this year. Playing Peru at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Doha, on June 13, Australia held their nerves in what was a thrilling contest and grabbed their berth for the showpiece event with a 5-4 win in the penalty shootout after the regular time resulted in a 0-0 scoreline.

Thus, both sides were to be tested in the shootouts. While the penalties always put pressure on players but this time around, the crucial slot at Qatar for the finals was also to be determined by virtue of it. Australia's substitute goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne was the star as he was roped in just minutes before the end of play and finished with two stunning saves to guide his side to the World Cup for the fifth successive time.

Hungary humiliated England 4-0 away on Tuesday to go top of their Nations League group and hand the hosts their worst home defeat for 94 years in a competition Gareth Southgate`s side had hoped would be a morale-boosting warmup for the World Cup. Southgate made nine changes from the team that drew with Italy at the weekend to give some fringe players a chance. But despite dominating possession, England created few chances and the experiment backfired against a Hungary team who beat them in Budapest earlier in the month and were out for blood again.

"Tonight is a chastening experience," Southgate said, after last year`s national heroes as European Championship finalists were booed off at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton. Hungary`s Roland Sallai began the rout when he controlled the ball on his knee after a miscued header from John Stones before drilling past Aaron Ramsdale in the 16th minute.

Sallai scored a second in the 70th minute with a perfect finish with the outside of his boot after Kalvin Phillips lost a tackle. Zsolt Nagy chipped Ramsdale and Daniel Gazdag drove from distance into the corner for two late goals that heaped pain on England. Adding to their disastrous night, England defender Stones was sent off for two yellow cards.

Southgate said he had picked a young, experimental team, heavy on attacking talent, which left his side exposed when the game turned against them. "That`s my responsibility at the end of the day.
We couldn’t keep flogging our best players ... But I think I’ve given too much for them to do tonight. I understand the reaction to that in the stadium," he said.

"I`m not going to say that it doesn`t hurt ... We’ve seen that you’ve got to be at full strength. It was an important experience for young players across this tranche of games. "This group of players have been unbelievable for the country and it’s important that they stay with them," added Southgate, who also led England to a World Cup semi-final in Russia in 2018.

KANE: `NIGHT TO FORGET`
The result left Marco Rossi`s tough Hungary side top of Group A3 on seven points, with England in fourth and bottom spot on two points. Germany are second on six points after winning 5-2 against Italy, who are third on five points. With two games left, the group winners go to the Nations League finals next June while the bottom team are relegated.

England captain Harry Kane, who provided some of England`s few moments of quality and hit the bar with a header, acknowledged his side`s second half capitulation was "unacceptable" but also urged fans to be forgiving.

"It’s our first big defeat in a long time. It`s not time to panic, it’s time to keep our heads up," he said. "A night to forget but we have to take it on the chin and move forward, prepare for a big World Cup, and we’ll learn a lot ... Let’s not forget where we’ve come from. It’s not going to be perfect every game."

After narrowly losing last year`s Euros to Italy, England have high hopes for the Qatar World Cup at the end of this year. But their dismal form in the Nations League has baffled fans, with some pundits pointing to player exhaustion after the rigours of the Premier League and other competitions for many.

It was the first time England had lost a home match by four or more goals since March 1928 when Scotland beat them 5-1. And it was the first time an away team had scored four goals against England since the Hungarians themselves won 6-3 1953. Hungary did not qualify for the World Cup.

Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu tried to play the mediator's role but all his efforts went in vain as more Indian and Afghan players joined in and it led to an ugly scene. The players from both sides pulled each other's shirts and some fist blows were also traded. AFC officials also tried to calm the storm but it took some time before the fight was eventually stopped. The exact reason for the fight remains unknown. Manchester City have completed the signing of Norway striker Erling Haaland from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund on a five-year contract, the Premier League champions said on Monday. City did not provide financial details of the deal but German media reported that the total cost of buying Haaland could exceed 300 million euros ($314.22 million), including his salary, agent fees and bonuses. The 21-year-old striker`s value has skyrocketed thanks to his prolific form at Dortmund after joining them from Austrian side Salzburg two years ago.

"I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons," said Haaland, who scored 86 goals in all competitions for Dortmund since his debut in January, 2020. "You can`t help but admire their style of play, it`s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.
"I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here," added the Norwegian who will join City on July 1.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) in a span of just 15 years has managed to become one of the biggest sporting leagues in the world. The inaugural edition of the IPL was played in 2008 and there has been no looking back ever since as the T20 league continues to witness a massive growth in its popularity across the globe. IPL is arguably the biggest T20 league in the world and has the best players from across the globe playing their trade in the competition.

IPL is organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is the richest cricket board in the world. While there is no doubting IPL's popularity and its staggering growth over the years, the T20 league has still some distance to cover to become the most popular sporting league in the world.

However, BCCI president and former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly recently made a bold claim stating that the IPL earns more revenue than the English Premier League (EPL). The English Premier League is the top-tier tournament in English football and is one of the most-watched sporting leagues globally.

EPL's popularity is not just limited to the UK and the competition is followed by passionate fans from all corners of the world. It is also deemed one of the most difficult football leagues in the world for players and involves huge finances in terms of transfers, tickets and other expenditures.

But speaking at the India Leadership Council event, Ganguly said IPL earns more revenue than EPL and it gives him immense happiness to have witnessed cricket grow from strength to strength over the years.

"I've seen the game evolve, where players like me earned a few hundreds and now have the potential of earning crores. This game is run by the fans, by the people of this country, and by the BCCI, which was formed by cricket fans. This sport is strong and will continue to evolve. The BCCI president's comments have come at a time when IPL media rights for the 2023 to 2027 cycle are up for grabs at the e-auction which is currently underway. A number of big names including the likes of Disney Star, Sony, Zee, SuperSport and Reliance/Viacom18 are in the fray to bag the TV and digital rights of the tournament for the next five-year cycle.

As per reports, the BCCI is expected to receive a huge cash influx through the e-auction of the media rights. The bidding war can go up to 7 billion USD and the winner will be awarded the broadcasting rights of the tournament from 2023 to 2028.

A look at the PSG squad on paper and it instantly reminds one of the ‘Galacticos’ project of Real Madrid in the first half of the 2000s. With names like Luis Figo, David Beckham and Brazilian star striker Ronaldo, the Madrid side was a collection of incredible talents and under president Florentino Perez, the squad became a subject of envy in the footballing world. Similarly, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are huge stars for PSG and the addition of Lionel Messi at the start of last season took the squad to a different level. However, much like the ‘Galacticos’, PSG has not reached the heights expected to their star-studded side and that has led to instability in the French club.

With eight Ligue 1 titles in the last ten seasons, PSG’s domestic record has been exceptional but European glory remains a distant dream for the Qatar Sports Investments- owned club. They came close in the 2019-2020 season but their dreams were dashed thanks to a 0-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the final. The appointment of Mauricio Pochettino in 2021 was hailed as a positive move by the fans but a lack of success and constant reports of instability in the dressing room has not helped his case. With latest reports suggesting an end to Pochettino’s tenure at the Parisian club, PSG are on the lookout for a new manager and their best solution can be a former ‘Galactico’ from France.

Zinedine Zidane is a part of French folklore. The legendary footballer was the centrepiece of a side that went on to win the World Cup and the Euros in the span of just two years. Add his conquests at Juventus and Real Madrid to that and we have a career worth writing epics about. As a manager, he guided Real Madrid to two league titles and three UEFA Champions League titles in just five years and that is the pedigree he will be bringing to PSG if both parties to reach an agreement. Reports suggest that a deal is imminent and this can be the missing piece in PSG’s European dream.

In Zidane, PSG will get a bonafide winner who has achieved almost everything that a footballer can hope for in their career. As a manager, the 49-year-old created a revolution at Real Madrid and his winning percentage of 62.50 is a clear proof of his achievements. While domestic success is nothing new for PSG, Zidane can instil the winning mentality of a side that has experienced a number of close defeats in the recent years. Zidane may not have coached a side for more than a year, but with his vast experience at the top level, a return to the top level will not be that difficult for the Frenchman.

The other major aspect of Zidane’s job as PSG manager will be to maintain balance in a dressing room that has a number of gargantuan talents. With names like Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, Pochettino struggled to maintain his grip on the side but Zidane is no stranger to working with megastars. If he joins PSG, he can be the first ever to manage both Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi – a feat that may seem impossible to a number of managers. As a result, it will not be difficult for Zidane to lead the superstar line-up in PSG as he commands a lot of respect among the current generation.

Finally, although PSG have left no stone unturned when it comes to their transfers, the decisions have mostly been made by the owners. With Zidane, PSG will have someone with in-depth knowledge of French talent and a name that is able to attract star footballers from all around the world. The chances of friction between Zidane and the owners is a real possibility but considering the pedigree he brings, there is hardly a better option than Zidane as the next PSG manager.

With latest reports suggesting an end to Pochettino’s tenure at the Parisian club, PSG are on the lookout for a new manager and their best solution can be a former ‘Galactico’ from France. Also read | We need 500 million Euros to save the club, claims FC Barcelona president as financial troubles mount Zinedine Zidane is a part of French folklore. Also read | Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Chelsea's Sam Kerr win PFA Player of the Year awards The other major aspect of Zidane’s job as PSG manager will be to maintain balance in a dressing room that has a number of gargantuan talents. Why Zinedine Zidane is the perfect manager to take PSG to the next level

Pressure was growing Friday on French authorities after the surprise revelation CCTV footage from the Stade de France during the Champions League final last month has been deleted, with critics alleging a deliberate cover-up. The French Football Federation revealed Thursday to a commission at the French Senate the images had been destroyed automatically having not been subject to a warrant from judicial authorities, in line with French law.

The revelation adds to the controversy after crowd control problems, tear gas and street crime marred the final at Paris' Stade de France between Liverpool and Real Madrid on May 28. France's reputation has taken a battering as laid out in a government report on Friday. It said the "chain of failures" by French authorities has inflicted "severe damage" on the image of the country.

Opposition politicians seized on the latest revelations about the CCTV footage to hammer the authorities. "It's called covering your tracks," far-right National Rally leader Marine Le Pen told BFMTV on Friday.

"The fact that there is no CCTV footage allows their huge lies to be covered," Le Pen added, pointing to the initial claim from the French government that fake tickets on an 'industrial-scale' caused the pandemonium. Police asked Stade de France for the footage, but only on Thursday evening after it became public that the images had been destroyed, a source close to the case told AFP on Friday.

"Yesterday's information that the images would not be kept for one month, but only a few days, led us to ask for them," Bobigny prosecutors, in charge of the investigation into fake tickets, said. The State de France is allowed to store CCTV footage for a maximum of 30 days, but the servers only have the capacity to store them for seven or eight.

On Twitter French police said Thursday the images taken by the Stade de France cameras may no longer exist but that the police still had their images. But Socialist vice-president of the Senate's law commission David Assouline said Friday on Franceinfo radio he was "stupefied" by the news, adding it demonstrated an "incredible lack of co-ordination" between the police and politicians.

Liverpool mayor Steve Rotheram, questioned by the Senate commission after the FFF delegation, said that he failed "to understand why the videos were destroyed". "We're heading straight towards a state scandal," the head of the opposition Republicans (LR) faction in the Senate, Bruno Retailleau, told RFI radio, adding the destruction of the CCTV footage was an "intentional act ... to make evidence disappear".

But ruling party MP Aurore Berge said on RMC radio that there were enough elements for the investigation. "We have plenty of witness statements and images that should nonetheless guide (the investigators)," Berge said. On Thursday the chief of the Paris police Didier Lallement admitted in front of the Senate commission investigating the May 28 chaos that the security operations for the Champions League final were a "failure".

"It was a failure because people were pushed around and attacked. It's a failure because the image of the country was tarnished," he said. Lallement and Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin initially blamed the mayhem on as many as 40,000 Liverpool fans who massed at the stadium without tickets or with counterfeit tickets. That figure has been widely disputed since by witnesses and media using images from the ground, and Lallement admitted yesterday: "Perhaps I made a mistake with the figure I gave to the minister".

He acknowledged there were not 30,000 to 40,000 "at the gates of the stadium" but maintained that several thousands were "in the vicinity" of police checkpoints at the Stade de France to the north of the capital. Many Liverpool supporters struggled to enter the stadium, leading to kick-off being delayed by more than half an hour and crushes at the entry gates, where police fired tear gas.

The government's initial decision to blame Liverpool fans for the problems caused tensions between France and Britain, while raising questions about the capacity of Paris to host the Rugby World Cup next year and the Olympic Games in 2024.

FC Barcelona are one of the most successful clubs in the history of football. The Spanish giants have not only been a force to reckon with in the La Liga but have also dominated European football for decades. Some of the greatest footballers of all time have donned the Barcelona jersey and have played for the Blaugrana. However, FC Barcelona currently find themselves in a massive financial mess.

Barcelona are debt-ridden and are facing one of their worst-ever financial crunches. The situation is a dire one and the club's vice-president Eduard Romeu has claimed they need at least 500 million Euros in order 'to save the club' this year. Barcelona are seriously strapped for cash and have not been able to fund big signings.

One of the most valuable clubs in the world, Barcelona were once known as a huge spender in the transfer market. They have signed the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Greizmann and Philippe Coutinho among others, who are some of the most expensive footballers of all time. Barcelona also had Lionel Messi in their squad until 2021 and he was one of the highest-paid footballers in the world at the time.

However, the club is no more stable financially and have had to let go of a number of superstars due to the crunch. Some of the star players like Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique also had to take pay cuts last season as Barcelona struggled to match La Liga's salary cap requirements. Now the club's vice-president Romeu has said Barcelona need 500 million Euros to save themselves.

"The number doing the most damage is asset imbalance. The negative capital of €500 million. You could add €150m to that in losses this season if we didn’t do anything. I said it before, if someone wants give me €500 million... That is what we need to save Barca," Romeu told Spanish outlet Sport in an interview.

Barcelona's debt has reportedly reached a staggering 1 billion Euros. In October last year, it was reported that the club owed around 98 million Euros in fees to other clubs for player transfers. They are in a critical situation and might need to sell some more big names this season while expecting not too many significant arrivals at the Camp Nou this summer.

Among the top players who can be sold this summer is Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong, who has been heavily linked with Manchester United and is likely to be offloaded soon by the Spanish club, who are in desperate need of unds. United are expected to sign De Jong for around 70-80 million Euros, as per reports.

Portugal fired two goals in five minutes to beat the Czech Republic in UEFA Nations League on Thursday (June 9). The victory has allowed Portugal to open a two-point lead at the top of Group A2. Portugal is now two points clear of Spain. They have won two and drawn one of their first three games.

The Czech Republic started the match level on points with their opponents but drop to third, after Spain defeated Switzerland 1-0 in Geneva.

The Czech team will travel to Spain on Sunday while Portugal will play away match in Switzerland.

Portugal had to go through the play-offs to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar, beating Turkey and North Macedonia to avoid an embarrassing exit.

But this convincing win came after they claimed a 1-1 draw away against Spain in their opening fixture before thrashing Switzerland 4-0 in the second, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice.

Cancelo also got on the scoresheet there and the Manchester City defender made it two goals in as many matches by scoring just after the half-hour against the Czechs.

It came from some brilliant work by Bernardo Silva, who wriggled free on the right and found his City teammate inside him, who fired in.

Five minutes later, it was two and again Bernardo was at the heart of it, sliding through Guedes, who swept a superb finish beyond Jindrich Stanek.

The 29-year-old Egyptian scored 31 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and helped them win the League Cup and FA Cup.

"I have my room with trophies in a cabinet and I made sure that I had another space for one more. I always keep space and just try to imagine that the trophies are going to come."

India grabbed all three points in their first game of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023 as they comfortably defeated Cambodia by a margin of 2-0 at the Vivekanand Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium on Wednesday. A brace from captain Sunil Chhetri (14`, 59`) gave India the victory for the night. As soon as the referee blew the whistle, with the crowd behind them the Indian National Team showed that they were up to the task as they pressed the Cambodia team high in their own half and giving the opposition no time to breathe.

The first shot on target for India came in the second minute itself as Roshan Singh tried to hit one into the back of the net from long range. Akash Mishra tried to pile on the pressure as he put on a beautiful shot in the 4th minute but Cambodian goalkeeper Hul Kimhuy was able to come forward and collect it. India dominated the opening stages but there was potential danger as Sandesh Jhingan was cautioned for a dangerous tackle. Cambodia created a chance in the seventh minute. They attacked down the left flank and the ball was laid off on the edge of the box but the shot from Orn Chanpolin was over the bar.

India regained complete control of the game soon after and the rewards for them followed soon as well. Liston Colaco went on a mazy run down the left in the 13th minute, beating a couple of defenders but was brought down inside the box and India was awarded a penalty. Skipper Sunil Chhetri stepped up and slotted the penalty into the left corner in the 14th minute to settle the nerves and give India the lead. India maintained possession and never looked in doubt after scoring the opening goal. Chhetri had an opportunity to get his second goal in the 22nd minute when he found himself unmarked in the box but his header went off target. The Indian skipper was also booked in the 31st minute when the referee deemed his foot to be too high as he tried to win a ball against Choun Chanchav.

After the half hour mark, India created a flurry of chances. First, it was a cross from the left from Akash Mishra which found Sunil Chhetri following a beautiful dummy by Anirudh Thapa. However, Chhetri`s shot was a scuffed one and did not trouble the goalkeeper. Brandon Fernandes then tried to take on the goalkeeper with a long-range shot but it was over the bar.

In the 41st minute, Akash Mishra came up with a stupendous effort as he cut in from the left and unleashed a swerving shot but it was parried away by the goalkeeper. Right before the break though, Cambodia got some hope to bring the game back to level terms when they had a free-kick on the edge of the box. The shot from Keo Sokpheng was on target but easily saved by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and the referee immediately blew the whistle after half-time. India made a couple of changes at the break as Sahal Abdul Samad and Udanta Singh came on. In the 50th minute, Brandon put in a cross towards Chhetri but again his header was off target. However, it was third time lucky for the Indian skipper as in the 60th minute, another cross came in, this time from the left towards the far corner and Sunil Chhetri leapt up to hit a pin-point header towards the top right corner and into the back of the net. His second goal gave India the breathing space they needed.

Cambodia came up with a triple substitution just after the hour mark but it did not have any positive impact on the away team. Chhetri got a chance to complete his hat-trick in the 66th minute but his effort was blocked by defenders before he was taken off by coach Igor Stimac along with Brandon Fernandes as Glan Martins and Ashique Kuruniyan came on. Earlier in the day, Hong Kong registered a 2-1 victory over Afghanistan in Group D which means that as things stand, India occupied the top spot in Group D followed by Hong Kong, with both teams tied on 3 points. Afghanistan and Cambodia will be looking to make a comeback with the next fixtures of Group D scheduled on Saturday.

Three top Dutch football clubs are taking part in pilot projects using smart technology including artificial intelligence to identify and fight racist behaviour by fans, the country's football federation announced Wednesday.

Eindhoven-based PSV, Feyenoord in Rotterdam, and PEC Zwolle have started three different programmes designed to combat anti-social behaviour by fans including racist chants.

"These solutions are now being developed and tested in the three stadiums and perhaps a fourth project will start later in the year," the Royal Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) said.

"After one year, it should become clear whether, and how, these smart technologies have helped to identify racism and discrimination and to identify those responsible," it said in a statement.

The methods at the three stadiums will vary. At PSV, which is closely liked with Dutch technology giant Philips, cameras and sound equipment are to be used to measure fan engagement at matches "with feedback directly to the fans to motivate them and sing along."

Computer programmes using artificial intelligence will be able to pick up objectionable shouts and alert human officials who can watch a replay, the KNVB said.

At Zwolle, in the country's east, visitors will go to games with their tickets on their phones, accessible via a mobile app, which, among other things, will be able to give supporters real-time information about safety conditions around the stadium.

"Further technology, including artificial intelligence and machine learning will also be employed to enhance... social safety at the stadium," the KNVB said.

The Netherlands has for years been battling racism from fan groups, particularly in chants and on social media.

A study of some 118 professional footballers, many playing in the top-tier Eredivisie, found that 40 per cent had experienced racism and other forms of discrimination, the Algemeen Dagblad tabloid newspaper reported last year.

One of the worst examples was when former Swansea central midfielder Leroy Fer posted a selfie with other black players in the Dutch national squad in 2015, prompting a slew of derogatory comments.

Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio has hinted he can secure a move away from the club this summer if he fails to agree an extension with the Los Blancos. Real Madrid recently defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the final of Champions League 2021-22 to win their 14th Europen Cup/UCL title and are ready to strengthen their squad once again. While they are actively trying to bring in new players, some existing ones are likely to be moved out this summer or later depending on the situation.

Asensio, who enjoyed another great season with Real Madrid playing his role in helping the club win the La Liga and the Champions League title in the recently-concluded season, is one of the players who can be on his way out this year. The Spanish midfielder has just one year left on his current contract at Real Madrid which ends in 2023.

While he is yet to begin contract talks with the club, Asensio has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer. After the arrival of new manager Erik Ten Haag at Old Trafford, United are prioritising the midfield positions and prioritising the targeted players over other signings for different positions.

Asensio is one of the many midfielders who has been linked with a move to United and might be on the radar of the Red Devils. The Spanish star is currently on national duty but revealed he will hold crunch talks with Real Madrid when he returns to the club for pre-season. Asensio hinted 'there are possibilities' and anything can happen when asked about reports that he might join United.

"I have one year left on my contract. Now, I am focused on the national team. When this is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. I think there are possibilities. There is also the option to stay and fulfill my contract year," Asensio was quoted as saying by Goal.com.

"Rumors are part of football, and more so at Real Madrid. High-level players are always associated with it. It's something we have to live with," he added.

As per Goal's report, Real Madrid are keen to keep Asensio at the club and are willing to offer him a new contract after having already reportedly agreed a deal with Monaco for the transfer of highly-rated French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. However, they might want to cash in on Asensio if both parties fail to agree a deal.

Asensio wants assurity over his playing time at the club and is likely to face intense competition for a spot in the starting XI with the likes of Federico Valverde, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga and Casemiro still at the club. Real Madrid would not want to lose Asensio on a free next summer so they might consider selling him if an agreement cannot be reached between both parties.

The Paris police chief said on Thursday that he might have been wrong when he said up to 40,000 Liverpool fans tried enter the Champions League final with fake tickets and that there was no scientific evidence to support the claim.

Didier Lallement added during a hearing in the French Senate that the police action around the match between Liverpool and Real Madrid at the Stade de France was a "failure" both because fans were harmed and the image of France was degraded. The final, which Liverpool lost 1-0, was delayed by more than 30 minutes after police officers forcefully held back people trying to enter the ground. Riot police sprayed tear gas on fans, including women and children.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said that much of the blame lay with Liverpool fans and that 30,000-40,000 arrived without valid tickets, which led to a crowd crush at the stadium and people trying to force their way in. He was later backed by President Emmanuel Macron.

Darmanin`s version of events has been challenged by Liverpool fans who attended and say the vast majority of their supporters were well-behaved but were treated in a heavy-handed manner by French riot police. "I might have been wrong on the figure of 30,000 to 40,000 thousand (fans with fake tickets) I gave to the (interior) minister," said Lallement.

"From an operational standpoint, it doesn`t change anything if it was around 40,000 or 30,000 or 20,000," Lallement said. French senators pushed Lallement to explain the empirical evidence behind the figure for fake tickets, which he said had come through reports from police officials on the ground. "It was I who gave this figure to the Minister, and I fully stand by it," he added.

During the parliamentary hearing, Lallement said he was the only one responsible for police action during the crowd trouble around the Stade of France, which is located just outside Paris. Liverpool`s metro mayor Steve Rotheram, who attended the final, during which he said he was robbed, was due to give testimony to senators later on Thursday.

Thomas Partey, Arsenal and Ghana midfielder, has recently announced that he would be converting to Islam, Hence, the footballer is also set to change his surname. The 28-year-old youngster revealed that he will now be using the surname Yakubu, for his wife Sara Bella. Nonetheless, Partey made it clear that he will continue to be known and addressed by his previous name in the football fraternity.

"I grew up with Muslims so at the end of the day it's the same thing. I'm already married and my Muslim name is Yakubu,” Parety said in a video posted by prominent Ghanaian journalist Nana Aba Anamoah. He further hilariously added, "I have a girl I love, I know my side chicks will leave me but it's no problem."

The midfielder was seen striking a pose with a Muslim cleric in March 2022. Thus, speculations were rife, since then, about his conversion before he himself came out in the open.

As mentioned, Partey will continue to use his first name Thomas on the back of his club and national team jerseys. The Ghana footballer has been a vital cog in Mikel Arteta's Arsenal club since his £45 million transfer from Atletico Madrid in 2020. Although he didn't live upto expectations in his maiden season with the Gunners, he made amends and came alive in his second season at the Emirates.

Thus, Partey has soon become a regular in the Gunners' line-up, riding on his passing efficiency and staggering completion rate (which stands at an impressive 86 percent). He, however, has been out of action in the Premier League after he suffered a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace on April 4, 2022.

Belgium responded to their opening UEFA Nations League defeat against the Netherlands with five second-half goals as they came back to beat Poland 6-1 on Wednesday. Belgium began brightly, Michy Batshuayi hitting the post then having a goal disallowed in the first five minutes. The home team were level shortly before half-time as Timothy Castagne`s smart stabbed pass was steered in by Axel Witsel to make it 1-1 at the break. From there, Belgium went on to dominate and took a merited lead when Eden Hazard broke to set up Kevin De Bruyne as he curled in from just inside the box. Substitute Leandro Trossard then scored twice - his second a deep curling effort - before a long-range drive from Leander Dendoncker and Lois Openda`s first goal for his country rounded off an ultimately emphatic win.

Italy back to winning ways with 2-1 win over Hungary in Nations League

Robert Lewandowski has once again reaffirmed his desire to leave Bayern Munich this season to take up a fresh challenge in his career. One of the greatest goal-scorers of the present era, Lewandowski has been a prolific striker for the Bundesliga giants since joining the club in 2014 and his stature has grown with every passing season. Lewandowski played an instrumental role in Bayern's last Champions League triumph in 2020 and has been a force to reckon with in the Bundesliga over the years.

The Polis striker enjoyed a fabulous campaign in 2021-22 where he was unstoppable for Bayern across all competitions with a whopping 50 goals. The winner of the FIFA Best Award for the last two seasons was also seen as the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or in 2020 but the event had to be scrapped due to COVID-19.

While many would expect Bayern to do all that is possible to keep their top-scorer last season at the club at all cost, Lewandowski has hinted his relationship with the club is at an all-time low. The Polis striker said he was not listened to by the club till the end and felt something 'died inside him' during negotiations for a new contract.

“I am leaving because I want more emotions in my life. They didn’t want to listen to me until the end. Something died inside me, and it’s impossible to get over that. Even if you want to be professional, you can’t make up for it," Lewandowski told OneSport.

After spending eight years at Bayern Munich and scoring hundreds of goals for the club while helping them dominate in Germany and in Europe, Lewandowski feels he has given his all and should be let go of respectfully. The Polish superstar doesn't want to spoil his relationship with the club and take a one-sided decision.

“When you have been at the club for so many years, you were always ready, you were available, despite the injuries and pain you gave your best, I think it will be best to find a good solution for both sides. And not to look for a one-sided decision," Lewandowski said.

“That does not make sense. Not after this time. After such a successful path and on my part of readiness and support, this loyalty and respect are probably more important than this business," he added.

Bayern might block Lewandowski's move away from the club as he still has one year left on his current contract which expires in 2023. However, the Polish striker is in no mood to stay and has set his heart on switching clubs this year.

When asked if Bayern can potentially stop him from moving, Lewandowski sent a strong warning to the club and said no player would want to join such a club where players are not allowed to make decisions on their future as per their own choice.

“What for? What kind of player will then want to come to Bayern knowing that something like this could happen to him? Where are the loyalty and respect then?

“I have always been ready, I have spent eight beautiful years here, I have met so many wonderful people and I would like it to stay that way in my head," Lewandowski said. He has been heavily linked to FC Barcelona this summer and has reportedly made up his mind to join the La Liga giants ahead of the new season.

Online racist abuse directed towards Black players in the England team after last year`s European Championship final has further complicated preparations for penalty shootouts, England manager Gareth Southgate said.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were the targets of the abuse after they missed spot-kicks in England`s 3-2 shootout loss to Italy after the game ended 1-1 following extra time.

"We went through a process of preparing for penalties. We`ve definitely reviewed that," Southgate told reporters on Monday, ahead of England`s UEFA Nations League match against Germany.

"But indirectly we have created another layer of difficulty in overcoming a penalty shootout. I have got to take all these things into consideration and it is incredibly complex."

Southgate, once the face of English failure for his own penalty miss against Germany in Euro 1996, added that he would not let the potential consequences of a miss sway him when picking penalty takers.

"It wouldn`t be right to not pick the players you think are best ... because of what the possible consequences of them missing would be," Southgate said. "I`ve got to pick them on the belief they are going to score."

After the clash with Germany, England will host Italy on Saturday and Hungary on June 14.

FC Barcelona star Gerard Pique and his singer wife Shakira recently confirmed thy are parting ways, bringing an end to their 12-year relationship. The announcement came after reports had gone viral claiming Pique was allegedly cheating on Shakira with another woman. Amid the allegations of infidelity, a Brazilian model has made some startling revelations against Pique and accused him of sending her lewd text messages behind Shakira's back.

As per a report published by Spanish newspaper Marca, Pique had allegedly sent some illicit messages to Brazilian model Suzy Cortez after meeting her through former FC Barcelona president Sandro Rosell. Rosell served as Barcelona's president from 2010 to 2014. The report also claimed that Pique was in direct contact with Cortez for a significant amount of time.

"I was a friend of the former president of Barcelona, Sandro Rosell. When Pique found out, he asked me for my number and sent me a message. When I returned to Brazil, he sent me a message directly on Instagram - which he deleted every day - asking me when would I return to Europe and always asking me how big my butt was," Cortez told El Diario, as quoted by Marca.

Cortez further also questioned the integrity of the entire Barcelona squad at the time and said there were only a couple of players who never sent her anything after meeting with her. The Brazilian model, who is a huge fan of Lionel Messi, said the Argentinian along with his Brazilian teammate Philippe Coutinho were the only players in the Barcelona squad who refrained from sending her lewd texts.

"He [Pique] was the one who sent me the most direct message. The only Barcelona players who never sent me anything were Messi and Coutinho. They are great husbands and respect their wives a lot," claimed Cortez.
