<p>Two doctors who were on board an IndiGo plane came to the rescue of a child who developed severe breathing issues.</p>

<p>The incident happened on Saturday (Sept 30) when the flight, which took off from eastern Ranchi city, was on its way to the capital Delhi city.</p>

<p>The parents were taking the baby to Delhi’s premiere state-run AIIMS Hospital to get treatment for congenital heart disease.</p>

<p>Around 20 minutes after the flight’s take-off, the cabin crew announced the baby’s serious condition and sought medical assistance from any doctor on board.</p>

<p>IAS officer and doctor by training, Dr Nitin Kulkarni, and a doctor from Ranchi Sadar Hospital, Mozammil Pheroz, came forward to help the child.</p>

<h2><strong>Quick thinking</strong></h2>

<p>"The mother was crying as the baby was gasping for breath. Me and Dr Mozammil took over care of the baby. Oxygen was supplied through an adult mask as somehow no baby mask or cannula was available," Kulkarni told PTI news agency.</p>

<p>"We checked the medical records. The baby suffered from a congenital heart condition, patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). They were going to AIIMS for it," he said.</p>

<p>He said that a Theophylline injection was given from the drug kit. The parents were carrying injection Dexona, which proved very helpful, he said.</p>

<p>After administering the injection, the baby started to slowly recover and at the same time, its heartbeat was monitored.</p>

<p>“Lack of an oximeter made it difficult to assess the oxygen saturation status," Kulkarni said.</p>

<h2><strong>Medical team arrives&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>"The first 15-20 minutes were very crucial and stressful as it was difficult to gauge the progress. Finally, the eyes became normal and the baby also made sounds," he said. He added that the cabin crew was very helpful and provided prompt support.</p>

<p>"We requested for priority landing and full medical support on arrival," Dr Kulkarni said.</p>

<p>Around one hour after the flight landed, a medical&nbsp;team took the baby under their care and provided oxygen support.</p>

Inflight 'biohazard': US plane makes U-turn as passenger suffers major diarrhoea

<p>Thousands of passengers with flight tickets in the United Kingdom are facing cancellations and long delays after the country's air traffic control systems encountered a “technical issue”, which has been fixed.<br />

People have been stranded in the UK and abroad after the number of planes landing was limited by the National Air Traffic Services. The airports and airlines warned the passengers that they were likely to face more "significant delays" even though the officials fixed the issue within hours.<br />

After stating that the original issues had been fixed, Nats stated, “We are now working closely with airlines and airports to manage the flights affected as efficiently as possible. Our engineers will be carefully monitoring the system’s performance as we return to normal operations.”<br />

<p>Unfortunately, the medical teams declared Andaur dead when the plane arrived in Panama City.</p>

“When the airplane reached the acceleration altitude, the captain reduced the pitch attitude slightly and called for the flap setting to be reduced to flaps 5,” said the NTSB in its report. “According to the first officer, he thought that he heard the captain announce flaps 15,” it added.<br />

The report stated that the captain, who was flying the flight at an altitude of 2,100 feet (640 meters), was worried about damaging the still-extended flaps and hence, he started decelerating and descending until cockpit alarms sounded.</p>

<p>“Both pilots recalled hearing the initial warnings from the ground proximity warning system (GPWS), and the first officer recalled announcing ‘pull up pull up’ along with those initial GPWS warnings,” said the NTSB report.<br />

The report stated that United Airlines has brought changes to its training procedures and “issued an awareness campaign about flight path management at their training centre.”<br />
<br />
After the incident was first reported earlier this year, United stated that an investigation was being conducted with the FAA and the pilots union “that ultimately resulted in the pilots receiving additional training.”</p>

<p>One passenger from Chicago, who travelled through Newark, reported to the New York Post that dozens of fellow passengers experienced extended waits of more than two hours to retrieve their luggage.</p>

<p>New York City and its surrounding areas experienced significant rainfall due to the thunderstorms, with most regions receiving between one and three inches in total.</p>

<p>According to media reports citing FlightAware data, over 8,500 flights experienced delays due to severe weather conditions, including intense thunderstorms.</p>

According to the airline, the flight&nbsp;"landed normally and taxied to the gate under its own power". After the landing, medical personnel were present at the gate and waiting to attend to those who had suffered injuries. Two flight attendants and two passengers were admitted to the hospital and the extent of their injuries is not known.</p>

<h2><strong>Petrifying flying experience</strong></h2>

<p>One of the flight passengers Lisa Spriggs called the flying experience "petrifying", adding it looked like a scene straight out of a sci-fi movie. Speaking to CBS News, she said that the flight attendant was standing next to her when she was flung into the air.<br />

"More than halfway through descending, and all of a sudden, we hit a turbulence, and the stewardess beside us fell. Literally, she flew up in the air, like 'Matrix' is the only way that I can think to describe it, was there for half-a-second, and then landed straight down, broke her ankle," Spriggs said.</p>

<p>According to the aviation analytics firm Ciruium, around 1,155 commercial passenger flights were scheduled from the Delhi airport on Sunday. However, the affected airlines, like IndiGo, Vistara, Air India, SpiceJet, and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), did not state anything about the delays or cancellations.</p>

<p>Torrential rains severely affected several parts of north India on Sunday. According to the reports, at least 15 people died in landslides and other rain-related accidents. Most rivers in north India, including Yamuna in Delhi, were in spate. Heavy showers affected all forms of commuting, including airways, roadways, and railways. Civic systems were unable to hold in the face of record rains. Roads and residential areas of Delhi and various other north Indian cities were submerged in knee-deep waters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On July 4, Tuesday, three flights were diverted from the Delhi airport to Lucknow due to the bad weather.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Vistara introduced a 'Monsoon Sale' for a limited period. The airline will provide domestic flights starting from ₹1,499 and international flights from ₹11,799. It will cover travel dates from July 2023 to March 2024 (terms and conditions apply).</p>

<p>Besides flight delays and inundated roads, torrential rains caused heavy damage to life and property. In India's national capital Delhi, 15 houses collapsed, leaving two dead and seven injured.</p>

<p>Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg told ANI news agency that they received 15 calls regarding house collapse incidents due to heavy and extensive waterlogging. "We received 15 such calls, the most in a single day. Some old, decrepit houses and some under-construction buildings couldn't sustain the heavy rainfall and collapsed. Further, on account of severe waterlogging, we had trouble reaching the spot," Garg told ANI.</p>

<p>Air India handed over an “unruly passenger” to security officials on May 29 after he verbally abused and harassed a crew member on board the AI882 flight from Goa to Delhi. A spokesperson for the company said that the male passenger also went on to physically assault a crew member, who continued with his aggressive behaviour even after landing at the Delhi airport. The company has also reported the incident to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India’s top aviation regulatory body.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The said passenger verbally abused the crew members and then went on to physically assault one of them on board. On landing at Delhi airport, the passenger continued with the unprovoked, aggressive behaviour and was handed over to the security personnel. We have also reported the incident to the regulator," the spokesperson said.</p>

<p>The statement added that the safety of the crew members and passengers is the utmost priority of Air India. "Safety of our crew and passengers is of utmost importance to us and we strongly condemn this unruly behaviour of the passenger. A spokesperson for the company said that the male passenger also went on to physically assault a crew member, who continued with his aggressive behaviour even after landing at the Delhi airport. ‘Unruly passenger’ assaults crew member on board Air India flight, handed over to authorities

<p>An elderly couple, hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland, has demanded compensation from EasyJet after their flight was cancelled because of being struck by lightning, reported Metro.<br />

The couple had booked flight tickets and were about to fly back from Krakow to Edinburgh on April 14 to attend the birthday of their granddaughter. However, the couple's flight was cancelled after their plane was hit by lightning amid a storm and needed repair work.<br />

The airline staff told the stranded couple that the next available flight will be on Monday, April 17. James Digance, aged 75, and his 74-year-old wife Margaret Digance were then given a room to stay in a hotel opposite the airport by EasyJet.<br />

The couple was helped by a kind Polish man in booking new flight tickets. However, the new flight tickets cost them a whopping £1,318 ($1,640) and they had to travel via Frankfurt, Germany to reach Edinburgh on the afternoon of April 15.</p>

But thankfully, a lovely Polish woman Edy who was flying to Edinburgh helped us. EasyJet put us and a number of other passengers up for the night at the Garden Hilton, but this was not without difficulty as the staff at the hotel had to contact easyJet for the vouchers. We had to get back for our granddaughter's birthday party on the 16th so Edy booked us flights from Krakow to Frankfurt and then to Edinburgh from her tablet.''</p>

<p>EasyJet issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and stated that the arrangements were made by them for the couple's return the next day. However, the couple had already made alternative plans.<br />

Digance stated that he was ''fully expecting compensation'' from EasyJet the next morning after their flight was cancelled. However, the company declined their request due to the 'exceptional circumstances' of the lightning strike. The complainant is now demanding EasyJet to cover the cost of the flight which the couple rearranged.</p>

<p>A winged-drone that's almost the size of a car(three metres each in length and width), manages to take-off vertically using eight vertical propellers, flies forward for a short duration using a set of four forward propellers and then lands vertically, entirely powered by its batteries. What if there was a pilot sitting onboard and ferrying a single passenger and light cargo in a larger version of the same drone? That's what Chennai-based firm ePlane Company is working on and their latest test flight of a prototype drone has ensured that their 'flying taxi' dream could become a reality by 2025.</p>

<p>Earlier this week, ePlane Company shared a video of their 'e50' prototype drone performing a successful forward flight. "During this test (where the drone was flown using a remote control), we proved that the drone can take-off vertically using its eight vertical propellers and then it gradually moves forward by the efforts of its four forward propellers. We were able to showcase the transition from vertical flight to forward flight, as is intended" Professor Satya Chakravarthy, Founder and CEO of ePlane, explained to WION.</p>

<p>In simple terms, their drone taxi is meant to take-off like a helicopter, then gradually it will be able to speed up and switch to its forward propellers and fly forward as a conventional aircraft does. When it is time to land, the same process happens in reverse, and it lands back again like a helicopter. This makes their concept plane taxi simpler to operate from very limited space.</p>

<p>Prof Chakravarthy, who is also a faculty at the Department of Aerospace Engineering,&nbsp;IIT Madras,&nbsp;said that the current prototype 'e50' is a scaled-down version of the intended drone taxi 'e200'. He added that the maiden flight test of 'e50' helped the team learn a lot in terms of design, assembly, flight controller behaviour, etc. "The time that we will take to develop 'e200' has been shortened now," he says.</p>

<p>The firm has extensively flown and tested its smallest prototype 'e6', a 1.7m wingspan drone capable of carrying a payload of 6kg&nbsp;and flying over long distances. This model is meant to be used for surveillance and delivery services. In the coming months, the firm hopes to carry payloads of 50kg on their 'e50' model and perform a 100km flight in an hour, on a single charge. "Our first 'e200' drone taxi prototype will be ready by the end of this year and by 2025 we hope to have the final iteration ready," he told WION. The 'e200' is an electric drone taxi that can carry up to 200kg (a pilot and a passenger) within a range of 200km.</p>

‘Drone taxi’ prototype built by India’s ePlane Company undertakes test flight, may fly by 2025

<p>A scorpion bit a woman passenger on board an Air India flight last month. The rare incident took place when the flight was on its way from Nagpur to Mumbai.</p>

<p>After the flight landed at the airport, a doctor attended to the passenger who was then treated at a hospital and later discharged, said the airline in a statement on Saturday (May 6).</p>

<p>The incident, which happened on April 23, was confirmed by Air India, as the airline further informed the female passenger was administered the needed treatment and that she is now out of danger.</p>

<p>Earlier also, there have been instances of rats and live birds found on board but this was a rare case where a scorpion&nbsp;stung a passenger.</p>

<p>"There was an extremely rare and unfortunate incident involving a scorpion stinging a passenger on board our flight AI 630 on April 23, 2023," stated an Air India spokesperson while speaking to news agency ANI.</p>

<p>As soon as the plane landed, the female passenger was rushed to the hospital and immediately provided the required medical treatment, informed Air India.</p>

<p>"Upon landing, the said passenger was attended by the doctor at the airport and subsequently was treated at the hospital and discharged. Our officials accompanied the passenger to the hospital and offered all support to the passenger till discharge," said an Air India spokesperson.</p>

<p>After the engineering team of Air India was informed about the incident, it carried out a thorough inspection of the aeroplane. The scorpion was caught hold of, after which a due fumigation process was carried out.</p>

<p>"Our team followed the protocol and conducted a complete inspection of the aircraft and found the scorpion after which due fumigation process was carried out. We sincerely regret the agony and inconvenience caused to the passenger," stated Air India.</p>

<p>After the incident, the catering department of Air India was asked to advise dry cleaners to thoroughly check their facilities and ensure there is no bed bug infestation and carry out fumigation inside the facilities, if necessary, as there are chances that the bugs may enter the aircraft through these supplies, said an Air India official while speaking to Press Trust of India.</p>

<p>In the past as well, there have been&nbsp;instances of reptiles spotted onboard aircraft. In December 2022, a snake was discovered inside the cargo hold of an Air India plane which had departed from Calicut and landed at the Dubai airport.</p>

<p>A wheelchair user went through extreme "humiliation" after he was made to crawl down a Ryanair flight because of an “unacceptable” delay in assistance.</p>

<p>The 37-year-old victim, Adrian Keogh, said that he wants the airlines and airports to make more arrangements for people with disabilities after he went through the embarrassing ordeal at Landvetter Airport in Sweden on Saturday.</p>

<p>Keogh, who is from Wicklow in Ireland, said that he had done the booking beforehand to ensure he received the kind of support he needed during flying.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, when the flight landed, Keogh was told that the lift required to bring him down the flight in his wheelchair would take at least an hour to arrive. He stated that he decided to crawl off the plane because he was experiencing pain and was not willing to wait until midnight to leave.</p>

<p>Speaking to The Independent, Keogh said, “It was very destroying, to be honest going through that because all anyone wants is to be treated equally. For someone to say you have to be an hour waiting on the plane for no fault of my own is totally ridiculous."&nbsp;</p>

<p>“A person in a wheelchair has different issues, I have spinal injuries personally myself, some people have other issues but with any disability, we just want to be treated equally," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Keogh added that he began to “bum shuffle” down the steps.</p>

<p>“My brother wanted to lift me down but I decided not to because it’s too unsafe in case we fell. He was at the bottom of the steps making sure my wheelchair was ready," he said,&nbsp;</p>

<p>He further took to social media to share his harrowing experience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In his Instagram post, Keogh shared images in which he was seen crawling down the metal stairs in a seated position.</p>

<p>The post read, “Please excuse the bad picture but this is a photo of myself having to crawl off a Ryanair flight which landed in Landvetter Airport tonight at 11 pm. I am as some may know a full-time wheelchair user and paid extra for special assistance to be lifted off the plane down to my wheelchair."</p>

<p>“It's unacceptable to expect me to crawl down the steep metal steps, but on arrival, I was informed that it would be at least one hour before they would have the lift available to help me off the plane so what option had I but to crawl off the plane," he added. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Commenting on Keogh's post, Landvetter Airport apologised for the delay in assisting and said that delay happened because of another medical emergency.</p>

With several booked assistants requirements, including yours, and a medical emergency simultaneously, caused a pushed [sic] forward.”</p>

<p>In a statement to The Independent, the airport further stated, “We deeply regret Mr Keogh’s experience at Göteborg Landvetter Airport on Saturday.</p>

<p>“Due to several unforeseen events, the assistance service at the airport was affected by longer waiting times and not up to our usual standard of service, although airport procedures were followed. As a consequence, the assistance service was delayed however by no means ‘forgotten’," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, a Ryanair spokesperson said, “Special assistance at Landvetter Airport is managed by a third-party provider - not Ryanair. We regret that Landvetter Airport failed to provide Special Assistance to this passenger upon arrival at Landvetter on April 29 and we are working with Landvetter Airport to ensure this does not recur.”</p>

Wheelchair user crawls down a Ryanair flight in Sweden

<p>The first aircraft carrying 360 Indians to Saudi Arabia from Sudan's conflict-torn region took off from Jeddah Airport and arrived in New Delhi&nbsp;at 9 p.m. on&nbsp;Wednesday (April 26).</p>

<p>Indian citizens are being transported by ship and plane as part of "Operation Kaveri" from Port Sudan to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, as reported by ANI.</p>

<p>On April 14, violence broke out in Sudan as a result of a power struggle between two generals, one in leadership of the Army and the other in charge of a paramilitary force.</p>

<p>The long-standing dictator of the nation, Omar al-Bashir, was deposed in a coup in 2021, which is also the root-cause of the conflict. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan of the Sudanese Army and General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces collaborated to overthrow al-Bashir despite their rivalry. On power sharing, they haven't been able to reach an understanding.</p>

<p>A traveller, who has the username @cali.style.trucking, posted a video last month of a flight attendant who was present on his Spirit Airlines flight from Dallas, Texas, to Los Angeles, California.</p>

<p>In the video clip, the attendant can be seen standing next to one of the phones installed on the flight and making a sarcastic announcement about the amenities provided by the airlines.</p>

<p>“I can only accept your cash to pay my bills, I promise you if you want to do that I will not stop you. But for Spirit, we need card, we need a tap to pay, Google Pay, Apple Pay. One way or another, we just want you to pay,” she stated.</p>

In 2019, Air India was under fire after facing an accusation of a dead cockroach's presence in the breakfast which was offered on a flight from Bhopal to Mumbai.&nbsp;</p>

Broken seats, cockroaches! UN official expresses disappointment over Air India flight

<p>An Indian student travelling on&nbsp;an American Airlines flight from New York, United States to New Delhi allegedly urinated on a fellow passenger mid-air while he was intoxicated. The incident occurred on Saturday (March 4), an official told ANI on Sunday. The accused was later identified as 21-year-old Arya Vohra and has since been banned by the airlines. He was detained by the Delhi Police upon arrival who assured “strongest possible action” against him and have since registered a case.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What happened?</strong></p>

<p>The incident took place on American Airlines’ flight AA292 travelling from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport which landed safely at 9:50 pm (late Saturday), said a statement by American Airlines, reported ANI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added, “Upon aircraft arrival, the purser informed that the passenger was heavily intoxicated, and was not adhering to crew instructions on board. He was repeatedly arguing with the operating crew, was not willing to be seated and continuously endangering the safety of crew and aircraft and after disturbing the safety of fellow passengers, finally urinated on pax seated on 15G.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The airline company has since imposed a ban on the accused from flying on any of its flights in the future, reported ANI, while the fellow passenger who was allegedly urinated on is said to be a US citizen. Prior to landing at the Delhi airport, the American Airlines pilot contacted the ATC informing them about an unruly passenger on board and sought security personnel.</p>

<p><strong>Detention and aftermath</strong></p>

<p>The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel took him out of the aircraft and said that the passenger misbehaved with the CISF personnel too, an airport official told ANI. A complaint was also registered with the Delhi Police who said that Vohra was a student in the US and a resident of the Defence Colony&nbsp;in the capital city.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

On the basis of the complaint we are contemplating action under IPC and Civil Aviation Act.” He added that they will take the “strongest action possible” against him to deter other flyers from such behaviour in the future.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“A case has been registered in the matter. We will do our best in this case. The accused Arya Vohra has been released,” the police official told ANI. According to the DCP, the airline has submitted a written complaint while the victim has not come forward, however, action will be taken on the basis of the statement by American Airlines.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Around 300 domestic flight passengers faced a nightmare in Japan after their two-hour flight was turned into a seven-hour ordeal because the flight missed the "deadline" of the destination airport. According to the schedule, Japan Airlines Co. flight JL331 was to depart from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 6:30 pm local time for a two-hour journey to reach Fukuoka, however, because of the last-minute plane switch, the takeoff faced a delay of around 90 minutes, reported Bloomberg reported.&nbsp;</p>

The crisis took place despite the earlier expectations of officials that the flight would land with 4 minutes to spare, said the airline in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Fukuoka airport officials, the airport officials do make exceptions for congestion or bad weather, allowing the delayed flight past the curfew time, however, while speaking to &nbsp;Asahi Shimbun newspaper, the official said that they didn’t regard this delay in the landing of the flight as “unavoidable”.</p>

<p>After missing the 10 pm curfew time of the airport, the airline went on a roundabout journey, taking 335 passengers to Tokyo again. The Bloomberg report stated that initially, the officials were considering re-routing the flight to the nearest city of Kitakyushu, however, because they were facing difficulty in arranging accommodation at the last minute for the 335 passengers travelling onboard, the plan was cancelled.</p>

<p>The plane was then landed at 10:59 pm at Kansai International Airport near Osaka, which was around 450 kilometres away from their original destination, added the report citing the airline officials. However, the passengers suffering did not come to an end as this destination lacked the accommodation arrangement for all the passengers and hence, the pilot took off the flight with 335 passengers again onboard.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The couple, in total, travelled across 11 countries before boarding a flight. Turner said that when they left the United Kingdom, everything was up for grabs. The only goal of the couple was to reach Italy at some point, however, they wanted to return too.</p>

<p>By the time the couple boarded the Eurostar train, which passed through the Channel Tunnel, they started planning to stop at Lille, which is the first stop of the Eurostar train after Calais.</p>

<p>"SDFD evaluated all passengers and crew. A total of 4 patients were transported. Two others opted not to be transported," it added.&nbsp; According to Sabrina LoPiccolo, a spokeswoman for San Diego International Airport (SAN), emergency workers responded to the fire incident and are presently attending to passengers.</p>

<p>FlightAware data shows the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft departed the airport at 7:07 a.m. Pacific Time and returned to San Diego at 7:51 a.m. CNN was informed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)&nbsp;official Ian Gregor that a laptop battery caused the fire. The FAA will look into it, Gregor said.</p>

<p>According to the airline, among those brought to the hospital are flight attendants who are credited with putting out the fire.</p>

<p>“Our crew acted quickly to contain the device and medical personnel met the aircraft upon arrival at the gate,” said United Airlines spokesperson Charles Hobart in a statement to CNN. “Several flight attendants were taken to the hospital as a precaution, and two customers were evaluated onsite.”</p>
