The study that claimed satellite radar could reveal hidden structures under the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt has been retracted. In 2022, Italian researchers Filippo Biondi and Corrado Malanga published a paper arguing that small changes in radar signals could be used to create a picture of structures inside the pyramid. Later, they also claimed that they had found chambers, tunnels, rooms and corridors under the Pyramid of Khafre. They used a radar-based imaging technique called synthetic aperture radar Doppler tomography to identify and create a picture of the structures, which they said indicated an underground city. Their findings were widely dismissed, but they persisted and were sure of their findings. Egypt has reportedly submitted a formal request to Dassault Aviation to buy 24 more Rafale fighter jets, French daily La Tribune reports. This would be Cairo's third Rafale deal, following orders in 2015 and 2021, pushing its total fleet to 78 aircraft — cementing Egypt's position as the largest foreign buyer of the French jet. While earlier deliveries were the F3R variant, this new batch could be the more advanced F4 model. The move comes amid Egypt's broader push to modernise its air force alongside submarine and radar upgrades.

US envoy Jared Kushner held a rare direct meeting with Hamas chief Khalil al-Hayya in Egypt, pushing the group to take real, tangible steps toward disarmament under Trump's 15-point Gaza peace plan. Hamas reaffirmed its commitment, though it's asking the Board of Peace to "compel" Israel to accept the plan too, since PM Netanyahu rejected the roadmap just last week, calling it "unacceptable." Kushner is set to meet Netanyahu next to discuss what Israel must do in return.

Once these are implemented, there is no reason for Egypt not to be part of it," said Fidan. He further added that neither Pakistan nor Saudi Arabia has any objection to Egyptian inclusion. The nature of the agreement still remains undefined, despite having NATO's Article 5-like stipulation where an attack on any one of the three states would be treated as an attack on all of them. But unlike NATO, this seems to have more room for political manoeuvring, as it's rather a passive defensive arrangement with no existing bureaucracy and financing architecture. This would suit Egypt well for its aid relationship with Washington.

A discovery in Egypt is throwing light on how the pyramids were built thousands of years ago. A massive engineering system has been discovered next to the Red Pyramid, located a few kilometres outside Cairo, that appears to be dams. The protrusions here have been known about for decades, but were believed to be naturally occurring and used as a stone-transport route. But now a study led by Cairo University and published in Nature states that it is a colossal hydraulic system that was used to build the pyramids.
Roles of the Dam in Construction and Daily Operations
The dam system trapped sediment and captured floodwater while regulating its flow. The structure consists of two dams, a reservoir, a diversion canal and a triangular spillway. Scientists say the latter could be the earliest advanced spillway in ancient Egypt. The team believes that the dam helped in the process in several ways. The controlled water flow helped move heavy cargo near the pyramid. The water was also used to prepare mortar, and the dam itself safeguarded the under-construction pyramids from floods. The workers also relied on this water for their needs. If the theory is true, it would mean Egyptians had the technology to develop complex water engineering 4,500 years ago. However, it is hard to say for sure that the recently uncovered structure is linked to the Red Pyramid. Excavation and dating would be needed to learn the age of the dam system. The Red Pyramid is 4,600 years old and located in Dahshur. It was identified as a "duckbill" spillway which fits a much longer crest into a narrow footprint, allowing it to release far more floodwater than a straight wall could. The crest would have been 656 feet long and 13 to 23 feet high. It could have released more than twice as much water as a straight spillway, which reduced the risk of floodwater pouring uncontrollably over the top of the dam.

An engineering system has been unearthed near one of the oldest pyramids in Egypt, which researchers think helped build the structures in multiple ways. The discovery was made in Dahshur, where two structures had been hiding in plain sight for years.

The conflict between Iran and the United States continues to intensify as Iran's military claims it has launched drone strikes against U.S. military facilities in Kuwait, targeting the Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base as part of the latest phase of its military operation.

According to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the attacks targeted fighter jet shelters, satellite communication systems, and logistics facilities. The IRGC has also released images claiming damage to the Al Azraq Air Base in Jordan, alleging that several American F-35 fighter jets were destroyed or damaged. However, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has disputed these claims, saying all incoming missiles were intercepted and no aircraft or military equipment was damaged.

In a bizarre and unheard-of discovery, scientists have found a papyrus containing a passage from Homer's Iliad inside a Roman-era mummy. The nearly 1,600-year-old mummy was kept at the Egyptian site of Oxyrhynchus. Researchers say this is the first time in archaeological history that a Greek literary text was intentionally added to the mummification process. Oxyrhynchus Archaeological Mission, directed by Maite Mascort and Esther Pons, helmed the project carried out by the Institute of Ancient Near East Studies (IPOA) at the University of Barcelona. A team led by Núria Castellano carried out excavations between November and December 2025 and came across the mummy in Tomb 65. They were surprised to see a papyrus resting on the mummy's abdomen, deliberately placed as part of the embalming ritual. Previous excavations have revealed Greek papyri positioned on mummies, but they were all linked to magic and rituals. This is the first time that a literary work has been found on a mummy. It is Homer's Iliad, which makes the discovery even more exciting. "This is not the first time we have found Greek papyri, bundled, sealed, and incorporated into the mummification process, but until now, their content was mainly magical," Professor Ignasi-Xavier Adiego said. One year after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) recaptured Khartoum from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the reality for returnees is far from the promised restoration of normalcy. Out of the 5 million who fled, over 2 million have returned, driven back by economic collapse and crackdowns in neighboring countries like Egypt. However, they are arriving in a city that remains a shell of its former self.

Archaeologists have unearthed two tombs in Egypt that have remained hidden for over 5,000 years. The discovery was made at the Jabal al-Tayr archaeological site by a team from the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Popular Mechanics reported. Researchers say that Early Dynastic tombs predate the pyramids by centuries. Jabal al-Tayr served as a burial ground from Predynastic times till the Late Period (roughly 664–332 BC), when the last native pharaohs ruled Egypt. The tombs throw light on the evolution of Egyptian tomb architecture long before the pyramids were built. Researchers say that the first tombs were simple pits lined with bricks and plastered over and cropped up around 3100 BCE, or over 5,000 years ago. Later, these burial places were built more lavishly and bigger to keep the bodies. The remains of royals were kept in Abydos, while those of nobles were kept in Saqqara. All of these tombs had subterranean burial chambers. Some of them also had upper ground structures known as mastabas, where offerings and items were kept for the deceased belonging to the upper class. Also Read: Pristine Mayan city discovered inside Mexican jungle was hidden for 1,000 years The recently unearthed tombs are similar to the tomb of King Hor-Den at Abydos, built around 2950 BCE and the largest one from the First Dynasty. Egypt is grappling with a worsening energy crisis, forcing authorities to take drastic measures to conserve electricity. Shops and restaurants have been ordered to shut as early as 9PM, while street lights and billboards are being dimmed across cities.

The government says these steps are necessary to reduce pressure on the power grid, which heavily relies on oil-generated electricity. For many businesses and residents, however, the restrictions are already beginning to disrupt daily life and economic activity.

An Indian man who spoke Tamil scribbled his name on eight Egyptian tombs 2,000 years ago. An archaeological discovery has uncovered who this offender was, showing Indo-Egyptian connections in ancient times, and proves the fact that tourists were just the same even thousands of years ago. A man named Cikai Korran visited Egypt’s Valley of Kings and etched dozens of inscriptions on several tombs. Eight of them bore just his name. Archaeologists say that the language used was Old Tamil, an Indian language. When scientists dug deeper, they also found writings in Sanskrit. The researchers revealed everything about this culprit and his actions at a conference in Chennai, the capital of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Ingo Strauch, an expert in South Asian studies at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, clarified that visitors from across the world vandalised Egyptian tombs over the years, and Indians are not the only offenders. Also Read: 900-year-old Shiva temple cloaked by a banyan tree discovered in Tamil Nadu
Graffiti in Tamil found at Egyptian tombs
French scholar Jules Baillet found more than 2,000 inscriptions and drawings on Egyptian tombs in 1926.
