Satellite images and official sources suggest Egypt has deployed advanced Turkish-made drones near its border with Sudan. The move signals a sharp escalation in Cairo’s involvement in Sudan’s civil war, which has already killed tens of thousands and displaced millions. As fighting intensifies between Sudan’s military and the RSF, Egypt’s growing military presence raises fears of regional spillover, deeper foreign intervention, and a widening power struggle across North and East Africa.

The United States has designated the Egyptian, Lebanese and Jordanian branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organisations, imposing sanctions on the groups and their members. Washington says the move targets alleged support for violent acts and backing for Hamas, though critics warn it could affect ties with Middle Eastern partners. The Lebanese branch was labelled a Foreign Terrorist Organization while others were listed as global terrorists.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have shot down two drones attempting to smuggle weapons from Egypt into Israeli airspace, marking a significant shift in Israel’s border-defense strategy. The interception, carried out by an Israeli Air Force helicopter gunship, is the first of its kind and reflects a broader change in how Israel is responding to the increasing threat of drone-based smuggling.

Egypt’s top antiquities official says thousands of Egyptian artefacts can stay in British museums — but demands that the iconic Rosetta Stone be returned to Cairo. The artefacts, many removed legally long ago, have become part of “London’s identity,” he argues, yet the ancient tablet remains a symbol of colonial-era appropriation. This video explores both sides of the debate, what it means for heritage claims, and the growing calls for repatriation.

The pyramid of Menkaure, the third-largest in Giza, has been found hiding air in two pockets. Archaeologists were surprised when scans revealed these pockets, which they say are an anomaly. Their shape, size, and layout hint that the pyramid had a very different construction history and was built for a very different purpose compared to the other two pyramids - The Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Khafre. Earlier, a huge internal void was discovered in the Great Pyramid of Khufu, along with a corridor near its northern entrance. But the one in Menkaure is evidently different from Khufu. "The images revealed two anomalies directly behind the polished granite blocks, which would indicate the presence of air-filled voids," the team wrote in the research published in NDT & E International. Led by Khalid Helal and Mohamed Elkarmoty of Cairo University, the researchers used a combination of three different scanning techniques to see what lay behind the granite cladding on the lower portion of Menkaure. The pyramid of Menkaure has an unfinished facade of reddish granite over the limestone structure. Mystery around the discovery of an ancient city under the Egyptian pyramids continues to intensify. The two scientists who revealed earlier this year that they had found massive chambers and towers under the Pyramid of Khafre, now say that there is a colossal vertical shaft and two chambers below the Sphinx. They spoke about their latest scans at the Cosmic Summit in North Carolina. The researchers said that the Giza Plateau is hiding a vast subterranean complex, as revealed by new scans, Mail Online reported. They believe this hints at the existence of a massive underground city. According to their findings, a spiral-like staircase descends from the centre of the Sphinx's base. There are two square structures underneath - one at 2,000 feet and another at 4,000 feet - and the staircase goes down to these chambers.
Eight vertical cylinder-shaped structures under pyramid
What started with one pyramid now extends to all three pyramids in Giza. This suggests that an extensive city lies under the pyramids, with chambers, staircases, pillars and more. Armando Mei, an Egyptologist and co-author of the study, said, "The discovery proves that the Giza Plateau was engineered long before the dynastic era, possibly around 36,400 BCE, as my research suggests." In March, the two scientists from Italy and Scotland said that sonar scans showed a city spanning more than 6,500 feet, and 10 times larger than the pyramids. They reportedly found eight vertical cylinder-shaped structures extending more than 2,100 feet below the pyramid, and more unknown structures 4,000 feet deeper.
