At least one person was killed and more than 20 injured after a locomotive crashed into the back of a Cairo-bound passenger train in southern Egypt on Sunday (Oct 13), according to local media reports. The incident comes less than a month after three people were killed in a&nbsp;similar collision in the city of Zagazig.

As per the rail authorities, Sunday's accident took place in the province of Minya,&nbsp;270 kilometres (about 168 miles) south of Cairo. Images and videos shown by local media showed two railway carriages partially submerged in the watercourse nearby.&nbsp;

Along with the fatality, the Health Ministry said in a separate statement that at least 21 people were taken to hospitals, of which 19 were later discharged after receiving treatment.

Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, ordered the formation of a committee of railway specialists to determine the technical causes of the accident.

Around 60 women have now come forward to allege they were sexually abused by former Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed, lawyers representing them said on Friday.&nbsp;

A BBC documentary last week aired claims by women that Fayed, who died last year aged 94, raped and sexually abused them during his ownership of the luxury department store.

The accusations make the Egyptian billionaire the latest high-profile figure to join a list of rich and powerful men, such as Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, disgraced by sexual abuse allegations.

"The response has simply been enormous," the lawyers said in a statement.&nbsp;

"We can confirm that we now represent 60 survivors as part of our claim, with more to come."

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/mohamed-al-fayed-was-a-rapist-20-women-come-out-against-father-of-lady-dianas-boyfriend-dodi-al-fayed-760351">Also read:&nbsp;Mohamed Al Fayed was a rapist? 20 women come out against father of Lady Diana's boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed</a>

The legal team said that since going public following the television expose, they had been contacted by people from all over the world.

"Our claim is becoming increasingly global in scope... We expected that anywhere Mohamed Al-Fayed went, abuse would follow," the statement read.

"Sadly this has proven to be true.&nbsp;

"We are now in possession of credible evidence of abuse at other Al-Fayed properties and businesses, including Fulham Football Club."&nbsp;

British prosecutors have said they twice received evidence against Fayed.

<h2>Pattern of abuse&nbsp;</h2>

In 2008, Fayed was accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) reviewed evidence in 2009.&nbsp;

In 2013, he was accused of raping a woman, a claim investigated in 2015.

In both instances, the CPS, which decides on prosecutions in England and Wales, said there was no "realistic prospect of conviction" and did not bring charges against the Harrods chairman.

The lawyers said they would continue to respond to inquiries from potential victims or witnesses and called for an "independent and transparent process to evaluate and adjudicate these claims".

The women they represented, they said, had "lost all faith in Harrods and their processes".

Harrods' managing director, Michael Ward, said this week his former boss presided over a "toxic culture of secrecy, intimidation, fear of repercussion and sexual misconduct".

But he said he had not been "aware of his criminality and abuse" and expressed his "personal horror at the revelations".

Fayed's accusers say the assaults took place in his apartments in London and his properties in Paris, including the Ritz hotel.

Allegations include a repeated pattern of women who underwent a selection process for positions close to Fayed.

Once selected, they were subjected to an "invasive" gynaecological examination, the results of which were shared with Fayed.

The women said that when they tried to complain about their abuse, were threatened by senior security staff, demoted and subject to false allegations until they had "no choice" but to leave Harrods.

Fayed sold Harrods to the investment arm of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund for a reported £1.5 billion ($2.2 billion).

He also owned Fulham Football Club.

Ruins of mudbrick buildings&nbsp;from a&nbsp;3,000-year-old fort that defended an ancient Egyptian kingdom against “sea peoples” tribes have been discovered by archaeologists. The discovery was made in northwestern Egypt near the eastern Mediterranean. This fort catered to the New Kingdom era that spanned 1550 BC to 1070 BC.

The remains found at the site comprise military barracks for soldiers and storage rooms for weapons, food and provisions. Egyptian soldiers who were stationed at the Tell Al-Abqain site on the Nile’s Western Delta used to keep personal items at the fort, which were also discovered during the dig.

Research shows that the sea peoples were responsible for the collapse of several dominant civilisations around 1200BC. They conducted naval raids which were partly responsible for kingdoms falling down. However, the origin of sea peoples is a mystery and it is not clear where they came from.

The tribe carried out several invasions and settled in a small section of the Mediterranean after a string of invasions in northern Egypt.

The discovery presents strong proof that forts acted as a major defense mechanism in northern Egypt and guarded the ancient kingdom against Libyan tribes and the sea peoples.

Researchers said the way the buildings were designed shows the exceptional talent of ancient Egyptian engineers. They were divided into two identical groups and were separated by a narrow passage.

They had storerooms filled with daily provisions to cater to the needs to the people who lived there.&nbsp;

Pieces of broken pottery were also found with remains of fish and animal bones. Cylindrical pottery ovens&nbsp;used for cooking were also at the site.

There were also several artefacts at the site, hinting at the lives and beliefs of the people. Most of those who lived at the fort were soldiers, and the artefacts help understand about how they lived their lives, their religious beliefs, and military activities.

A long bronze sword decorated with the cartouche of King Ramesses II was also found. A limestone block was found inscribed with hieroglyphics, telling the titles of King Ramesses II. Another one belonged to an official named “Bay”.

A cow burial site was also uncovered, and scientists suspect it symbolised strength, abundance, and prosperity.

Egypt is constructing a new capital city. This is how it looks from space

The ruined building constituted the largest astronomical observatory ever seen in Egypt in the 6th century BCE. It is located in Kafr Sheikh, which is said to have been famous for stargazing among the ancient Egyptians.

It is almost 2500 years old, and part of it is known as the Temple of the Padharos in Buto.

Earlier, astronomers used to track the motions of the sun and the stars, which was believed to be a trivial part of ancient Egyptian culture.

Ancient history suggests that the Egyptians were recognized as the most proficient and skilled astronomers in the world in primitive times.

The Egyptians established the 365-day calendar, and they even divided the day into 24 hours. They completely mapped out the night sky, forming their own constellations and the zodiac.

<h2>The architecture of the building</h2>

The observatory was built of mud bricks, covering 850 square metres (9,150 square feet), in an L-shape supported by pillars, with an opening in the direction of the sunrise.

Archaeologists from Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities discovered artifacts and paraphernalia associated with the observation of the sky.

The large sloping shadow clock, designed by Egyptians to keep track of time, is known as a sundial. The time was determined by the movement of the shadow and the sun across the sky.

The device included a 4.8-metre course of limestone slabs, on which five flat stone blocks were placed—three vertical and two horizontal. These stones were used for the concept of time.

The large stone clock was found shaped in a circular room, with two circular stones placed in one corner of the north and the south for the observation of time.

Five small rooms were made to keep the observatory tools, while four small mud bricks were used as an observatory tower. One huge space was also found with three walls coated in yellow mortar, on which murals were painted.

<h3>Bronze, terracotta&nbsp;and granite statues found among&nbsp;artifacts</h3>

The artifacts found include bronze statues of Osiris and Nemes, a terracotta statue of the god Bes, and a granite statue from the 26th Dynasty, during the reign of Pharaoh Wahibre Psamtik I. The statue portrays Osiris and is inscribed with the name of the priest Psamtik Seneb, who held the royal seal.

Other artifacts include measuring tools, a faience menat necklace, a faience statue of the god Ptah, faience religious symbols, pottery artifacts, amphora covers made of mortar, and offering tables.

The hostage-truce deal to halt the ongoing war in Gaza might be on the brink of collapse, a report in&nbsp;Politico&nbsp;has claimed, citing US and Israeli officials.

The news comes in the backdrop of Tel Aviv backing a 'bridging proposal' put forth by the US, Egypt and Qatar after several weeks of negotiations. The deal in its current shape is believed to be the strongest form of the deal ever since the war broke out in October last year. However, Hamas in a public statement has conveyed that it will not accept the pact.&nbsp;

“We don’t know if Sinwar wants this deal.&nbsp;But if we don’t get the deal there’s a chance that Iran attacks and this escalates into a full-blown confrontation," one US official was quoted as saying by the publication.&nbsp;

The report added that although US officials were presenting an optimistic front to the public regarding the signing of the deal, the White House was aware of the dire situation.&nbsp;

<h2>What has Israel said?</h2>

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday (Aug 19) for the first time, publically endorsed the latest US formula to strike a peace deal.&nbsp;

Netanyahu's office in a statement said that the PM during a three-hour meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken "reiterated Israel's commitment to the current American proposal on the release of our hostages, which takes into account Israel's security needs, which he strongly insists on".

<h2>What is Hamas' response?</h2>

Hamas has rejected the US version of the pact stating that any ceasefire deal must result in a&nbsp;permanent end to Israel's war on Gaza. The militant outfit also accused the US of merely "buying time for Israel to continue its genocide" by proposing an amended deal.&nbsp;

“The Israelis have retreated from issues included in Biden’s proposal. Netanyahu’s talk about agreeing to an updated proposal indicates that the US administration has failed to convince him to accept the previous agreement,” a Hamas spokesperson was quoted as saying by Al Jazeera.&nbsp;

Notably, the proposal aims to resolve disputes regarding the ongoing presence of Israeli forces along the Gaza-Egypt border and in the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza, as well as other contentious issues.

The news comes in the backdrop of Tel Aviv backing a 'bridging proposal' put forth by the US, Egypt and Qatar after several weeks of negotiations. The deal in its current shape is believed to be the strongest form of the deal ever since the war broke out in October last year. However, Hamas in a public statement has conveyed that it will not accept the pact. “We don’t know if Sinwar wants this deal. But if we don’t get the deal there’s a chance that Iran attacks and this escalates into a full-blown confrontation," one US official was quoted as saying by the publication. The report added that although US officials were presenting an optimistic front to the public regarding the signing of the deal, the White House was aware of the dire situation. The archaeologists were left baffled after they discovered 2,500-year-old gold troves hidden in dozens of untouched tombs present in an ancient necropolis of Egypt. Not appearing to have been looted by grave robbers, the site was found filled with hoards of untouched bronze coins, gold foil, as well as ancient figurines which represented deities like Isis, Bastet, and Horus. Speaking about the thrilling discovery, Secretary General of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mohamed Ismail Khaled, said that the find of undamaged artefacts like scarabs, funerary amulets, and pottery vessels further emphasised the rituals and customs that were followed by ancient Egyptians of this era. Gold treasure troves date back to 26th Dynasty The vast burial complex was discovered by archaeologists in 2022 after carrying out excavations for years and the burial was found to date back to the 26th Dynasty between 644 and 525 BCE. Here’s what happens next The necropolis, which belongs to the Late Period of ancient Egypt, has various kinds of burials and is also the final resting place of people who were commoners along with those who were rich. The researchers also found miniature canopic jars and vessels in which the organs of a dead person are kept during mummification. Tombs were built with the use of mud brick when it belonged to a commoner and of limestone when it was of wealthier individuals. The discovery is unique, as a lot of ancient Egyptian tombs have been looted from the time the pharaohs existed. Watch: Woman receives Lizard instead of Airfryer University professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo, Salima Ikram, said that the artefacts found provide “a great deal of information” about Egyptian history's later period. “Based on the kind of objects, especially the gold amulets, one can see that this was a wealthy necropolis and obviously the city attached to it had a great deal of social (stratification) (a society’s hierarchy of people that is determined based on social and political factors),” she said, in an email response to CNN. The wild facial expression of an Egyptian Mummy buried some 2,500 years ago had puzzled scientists for years, and now they appear to have found the reason. New research suggests that the woman who was mummified in ancient Egypt&nbsp;had died in extreme pain, which led her to scream so hard at the time of her demise that her face got locked in position.

Earlier it was thought that her facial expression got spoiled due to a badly done mummification. But new research by Cairo University radiologist Dr Sahar Saleem and Egyptian Antiquities Ministry anthropologist Samira El-Merghani posited that it's highly unlikely.

Based on their examinations, the researchers concluded that her body was embalmed using imported, embalmed material, meaning it was not a bad burial process that caused the deathly expression after all, according to the research published in the journal Frontiers in Medicine.

The findings were done based on new 'virtual dissections' through CT scans, scanning electron microscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction analysis.

“The mummy's screaming facial expression in this study could be read as a cadaveric spasm, implying that the woman died screaming from agony or pain,” Saleem said.

She screamed and screamed: Why was Egyptian Mummy's face so contorted? Scientists have a clue

The Egyptian pyramids without a doubt are among the most amazing man-made constructions in history. Several conspiracies exist regarding how those pyramids were built, with some theories even including a link to otherworldly beings, such as aliens. But there's, of course, no solid evidence to back such outrageous theories.&nbsp;

Scientists wondered how an ancient civilisation managed to build it in the absence of heavy machinery. With advancements in science, we might finally know how the pyramids were built, as physicists think they've finally figured out the secrets of construction.&nbsp;

In their latest attempt, researchers have proposed a stunning theory, which states that a form of hydraulic lift was used in the construction of the 4,600-year-old Egyptian pyramid.&nbsp;

In a study, which was published as a pre-print on ResearchGate, researchers said that the landscape, waterways and interior architecture of the Step Pyramid of Djoser point to the hydraulic system.&nbsp;

According to a report by Heritage Daily, the previous widely held theory included that ramps and rollers were used to lift and position the incredibly huge stones.&nbsp;

Researchers have now discovered evidence of possible hydraulic system use after studying the Djoser in Saqqara, which stands approximately 60 to 62 metres tall.&nbsp;

The study was led by Dr Xavier Landreau from the CEA Paleotechnic Institute and his team of French engineers, hydrologists and material scientists. They uncovered new insights into the pyramid's construction using satellite radar imagery and historical archaeology.&nbsp;

Instead of the Great Pyramid of Giza, researchers chose to study the Step Pyramid of Djoser because it is the earliest colossal stone building in Egypt. It was said to have been constructed during the Third Dynasty under the reign of Pharaoh Djoser (circa 2670–2650 BCE).&nbsp;

The first find was the mysterious Gisr el-Mudir, a nearly two-kilometre-long rectangular stone enclosure located directly west of Djoser's complex. It was believed that the enclosure has been variably interpreted as a cattle pen, fortress or sacred space.&nbsp;

In an interview with Haaretz, Dr Landreau explained, "Satellite imagery clearly shows that a rectangular stone enclosure known as Gisr el-Mudir, located west of the Saqqara necropolis, has all the technical characteristics of a check dam. This feature would have been used to control the flow of flash floods and capture heavy objects coming from upriver."&nbsp;

This is a considerably more advanced theory that has led to new research directions. The findings of the study suggest that having a sophisticated water management system in place made construction easier.&nbsp;

According to the study authors, "The Egyptians were famous for their pioneering and mastery of hydraulics through canals for irrigation purposes and barges to transport huge stones already."&nbsp;
