According to media reports, Murdaugh cried in the courtroom as he told the judge he was pleading guilty of his own free will.&nbsp;Murdaugh added he was doing so not only because he was guilty of the said crime but to also show his son Buster, that he was taking responsibility for his actions.&nbsp;

"I want to take responsibility. I want my son to see me take responsibility. It's my hope that by taking responsibility that the people I've hurt can begin to heal," said Murdaugh, clad in the&nbsp;orange South Carolina prison jumpsuit.

<h2>What does the deal say?</h2>

According to the plea agreement signed between Murdaugh and federal prosecutors, if the former cooperates and complies with the conditions set forth, the government attorneys will recommend to the court that any federal sentence he receives for these charges&nbsp;“be served concurrent to any state sentence served for the same conduct".&nbsp;

Currently, Murdaugh is serving a prison sentence without parole in a South Carolina jail for gunning down his wife and son at the family estate on&nbsp;June 7, 2021. The 55-year-old has denied any&nbsp;role in the killings and maintained his innocence before being convicted on two counts of murder earlier this year.&nbsp;

His team of lawyers last month filed a new motion, seeking a new trial, alleging that the&nbsp;Colleton County Clerk of Court tampered with the jury.

He added that the officials believe the victims were shot sometime between Saturday night and early Sunday. Burne also said that the deaths are being investigated as murders but since they took place more than 18 hours ago, officials do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.

The well-being check was conducted after relatives notified the police department that one of the victims did not show up for work Sunday morning, said the deputy chief.&nbsp;

“A member of the family did not show up for work at 6 am on the morning of Sunday, September 17 and did not respond to phone calls throughout the day, resulting in family members becoming concerned,” Burne explained.&nbsp;

The police said that the investigation remains in its early stages but believe that the family was killed between Saturday 9:00 pm (local time) and 5:00 am Sunday.&nbsp;

Police identified the couple as Alberto Rolon and Zoraida Bartolomei while the names and the ages of their children were not immediately released. The police said that they do not believe that the “offender is among the victims right now,” adding that “it is not a murder-suicide.”

According to the 48-year-old, she was being questioned by her estranged husband about whether she had poisoned his parents and panicked and got rid of the dehydrator worried that she might lose custody of her children.&nbsp; 
 
Last week, Australian detective Dean Thomas said that the investigation is likely to be lengthy due to the complexity of the case. “We presume at this stage it was mushrooms but it’s a complex investigation that I think will take some time,” said the police.&nbsp;

The incident took place on July 29, when Erin’s former in-laws Gail and Don Patterson stopped for lunch with their grandkids at her house. They were then joined by Gail’s sister Heather Wilkinson and her husband Ian Wilkinson. However, Erin’s estranged husband could not attend at the last minute.

Hours after the meal, all four guests took themselves to the local hospital with what they first believed was severe food poisoning. However, Heather (66), Gail (70), and Don (70) died soon after while Ian (68) is still fighting for his life awaiting a liver transplant.

However, on Monday (August 14), the 48-year-old said that she too was hospitalised&nbsp;on July 31&nbsp;due to a stomach ache. In the hospital, Patterson allegedly received a saline drip and medication to guard against liver damage.

She reportedly said that the mushrooms used to prepare the meal were a mixture of store-bought button mushrooms and months-old dried mushrooms bought at an Asian grocery store in Melbourne.&nbsp;

The children were unharmed because they were scraped off since they did not like mushrooms, said the 48-year-old, as per media reports.&nbsp;

The suspect, later identified as 61-year-old George Clemons from Florida’s Crescent City, also continued to drive along the state road and reportedly ran off the road multiple times and nearly caused several additional crashes.&nbsp;

According to the sheriff’s department, the car eventually stopped on its own as bystanders stood by with the driver of the vehicle until police personnel arrived. Upon arrival, the FCSO deputies found the driver seated in his seat with the “car keys under his leg,” the statement added.&nbsp;

Deputies also saw narcotics, an empty Bud Light can and a mini “shooter” of alcohol in plain view inside the vehicle, said the FCSO. Clemons was arrested after he refused to conduct field sobriety exercises and was charged with DUI, said the deputies.&nbsp;

Subsequently, Deputy First Class Kyle Gaddie administered one dose of Naxolone (Narcan) but after seeing no improvement in Deputy Huzior’s condition a second dose was given, said the police. Narcan, which consists of an active drug called naloxone, has become a life-saving medication used to treat an opioid overdose.&nbsp;

Prior to the arrest, police officers conducted an exhaustive search, spending nearly three hours going door to door in the vast apartment complex, until they found the victim's location in an apartment.

Although the suspect had fled the scene, the officers managed to apprehend him within two hours of locating the victim.

According to the police, Mechikoff was acquainted with the victim.

US man allegedly stabs woman, posts 'last moments' on Facebook

The police said that a 42-year-old woman was shot dead near her residence in Dabri area of&nbsp; India's capital Delhi on Thursday evening. The victim was identified as Renu.

The police said that Dabri police station received information regarding an incident around 8.45 pm.

"Around 8:45 pm on Wednesday, under the Dabri police station, we got information that a 42-year-old woman was shot dead near her house. The woman was identified as Renu. She was a housewife living with her family in the Vaishali colony area under Dabri Police Station," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harshvardhan.

The DCP further said that police had formed several teams in order to catch hold of the suspect. However, it was later found that the attacker had shot himself dead when the police reached his house to arrest him. The accused was identified as Ashish and was aged 25.

"We formed several teams to nab the accused. We identified him and when we reached his house, he shot himself dead on the roof of his house. We found the weapon with which he had killed himself," DCP Harshvardhan said.

The DCP further added that the two had met at a gym two to three years ago.

"We found that Renu and Ashish met in a gym nearly 2-3 years back. Further investigation is on,"&nbsp;the DCP added.

<h2>Issues had arisen in Renu's family over friendship with Ashish: Police</h2>

The DCP said that the police have yet to identify as to what exactly triggered the man to kill the woman and that the officers were investigating the matter and talking to the members of both families.

“What exactly triggered the man, identified by his first name Ashish, to kill the woman, Renu Goyal, before killing himself is a matter of probe. No suicide note was recovered on Ashish or from his house. We are speaking with members of both families, their relatives, neighbours and friends for clues that may help us find the reason behind the murder and suicide,” said DCP (Dwarka) Harshvardhan.

“It was not immediately clear who shot Goyal dead. The CCTV cameras were scanned. It was found that a man approached her and shot her from close range. Thereafter, he left. Through the human intelligence network, we learnt about her friendship with a man (Ashish) and that issues had arisen in her family over their friendship,” the Hindustan Times quoted Vardhan as saying.

Amber Lynn Costello, 27, was a sex worker and a heroin user who went missing on 2nd September 2010. Her family initially believed that she was in a residential drug rehabilitation centre and thus she was not reported missing immediately.

Valerie Mack, also known as Melissa Taylor, went missing in 2000 while working as an escort in Philadelphia. Her partial remains were discovered in Manorville in 2000, and additional body parts were found in 2011. She wasn't identified till 2020.

Jessica Taylor went missing in 2003 in Manhattan. Her dismembered torso was discovered in Manorville later that year, and further remains were found in 2011.

Unidentified Victims:

"Peaches" a murder victim whose dismembered torso was found in Hempstead Lake State Park in 1997. In 2011, additional remains were discovered near Jones Beach State Park, and they were later identified as belonging to "Jane Doe No. 3." DNA analysis connected "Peaches" and "Jane Doe No. 3," and it was determined that "Peaches" was also the mother of a toddler known as "Baby Doe." The skeletal remains of the female toddler were found near the remains of Valerie Mack.

The body of a young Asian male was discovered at Gilgo Beach in 2011. The victim had died from blunt-force trauma and was found wearing women's clothing. He may have been a transgender woman. The victim remains unidentified.

A human skull and teeth were found at Tobay Beach in 2011 and were connected through DNA testing to a set of severed legs found on Fire Island in 1996. The victim, known as "Jane Doe No. 7," had a surgical scar on her left leg and also remains unidentified.

<h2>Modus operandi</h2>

As per US District Attorney Ray Tierney, the bodies of the first four victims "were found similarly positioned, bound in a similar fashion by either belts or tape, with three of the victims found wrapped in a burlap-type material."

Autopsies of the victims as per LongIsland.com revealed that they had died of strangulation.

"For each of the murders he got an individual burner phone and used that to communicate with the victims," Tierney said. "Then, shortly after the death of the victims, he would get rid of the burner phone." As per Tierney, Heuermann would allegedly commit the murders when his wife and children were out of town.

Talking to reporters, Suffolk County police commissioner Rodney Harrison said: "Ladies and gentlemen, Rex Heuermann is a demon that walks among us — a predator that ruined families."

As per US District Attorney Tierney, the suspect Heuermann was tied to the murders through multiple pieces of evidence — DNA evidence found on a discarded pizza box, cellphone data linking him to the victims, and a sighting of his vehicle at the home of one of the Long Island serial killing victims.

In addition, as per AFP, the suspect also performed hundreds of searches about the investigation into the murders, looking up questions like "Why hasn't the Long Island serial killer been caught?"

Police also found "a lot of torture porn, and what you would consider depictions of women being abused, being raped and being killed" on Heuermann's computer, revealed the US District Attorney. It was also discovered that Heuermann made "taunting calls" to the sister of one of the victims.

Singapore&nbsp;imposes the&nbsp;death&nbsp;penalty for a litany of crimes, including murder and some forms of kidnapping.

It also has some of the world's toughest anti-drug laws: trafficking more than 500 grams of cannabis can result in the&nbsp;death&nbsp;penalty.

Thirteen people have been hanged since the government resumed executions following a two-year hiatus in place during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Usually taken against a pale-green flowery backdrop, the photos offer a glimpse into the last days of the condemned.

The&nbsp;Singapore&nbsp;Prison Service says participation in the programme is voluntary, and that the&nbsp;photo&nbsp;shoots&nbsp;"allow family members to have recent photographs of their loved one".

Relatives, however, say they have mixed feelings about the practice.&nbsp;

"Actually it's quite cruel to do such thing, to take photograph on his last days," said Hertslet, pointing to the horror inmates might feel knowing it was their last time being photographed alive.

"But at least we have his last&nbsp;photo&nbsp;for memories when he's really gone," she added.

Nazeri was hanged last year for trafficking more than 33 grams (1.2 ounces) of heroin.

In his sister's favourite photograph of him, he is wearing a white Muslim prayer robe, his hands clasped in front, looking at the camera.

<h2>&nbsp;A 'veneer of thoughtfulness'&nbsp;</h2>

Little information is publicly available about&nbsp;Singapore's&nbsp;death&nbsp;row&nbsp;inmates.

The Transformative Justice Collective, which provides support to families of&nbsp;death&nbsp;row&nbsp;prisoners and advocates for the abolition of the&nbsp;death&nbsp;penalty, estimates about 53 people are on&nbsp;death&nbsp;row, the majority convicted of drug offences.&nbsp;

Authorities generally notify inmates and their families about a week before an execution.

During that time, the inmate is allowed to have daily visitors, but they are separated by a glass pane and no physical contact is allowed, according to the TJC.

Spiritual counsellors are also provided.

Kokila Annamalai, a TJC activist, said the&nbsp;photo&nbsp;shoots&nbsp;are an attempt "to lend a veneer of thoughtfulness" to the executions.

In the&nbsp;photo&nbsp;sessions, prisoners can strike a particular pose or wear clothing that means something to a family member, she said.

"And so, I think that the photos are also like&nbsp;love&nbsp;letters&nbsp;to them."

"I'm very happy when I see the photos. At least he's there in the photos," she told AFP, speaking in English.&nbsp;

"This is the&nbsp;photo&nbsp;our family members everybody like because he smile," she added.

Still, she wondered what must have been going through her brother's mind in his final days.

"They know they're going to die," she said. "It's cruel, you know?"

Kalwant Singh's family bought him a pair of white sneakers, which he wore with a T-shirt, sweatpants and a broad smile in one photograph.

Sonia Tarlochan Kaur, the 31-year-old Malaysian's sister, told AFP he only got about half an hour during the&nbsp;photo&nbsp;shoot to wear the shoes, and so ran around the cell block to make the most of them.

After Kalwant's execution for heroin trafficking last year, Sonia said she cannot bring herself to look at the photographs.

"They could have just given me that half an hour to hug him tight."

Pre-execution photoshoots at Changi prison in Singapore

Youths in Tunisia called for vengeance on Tuesday at the funeral of a man who was stabbed to death during a scuffle between residents and migrants from sub-Saharan Africa.

Three African migrants were arrested as suspects for the death of the local man in Tunisia's coastal city of Sfax, a court spokesman said.

The North African country's second-largest city is a departure point for many migrants hoping to reach Italy, and tensions have been rising in Sfax for months.

Police had fired tear gas on Sunday to disperse residents and migrants pelting stones at each other.

Faouzi Masmoudi, the spokesman for the Sfax prosecutor, said the victim, who was in his early 40s, was fatally stabbed late Monday during a scuffle between Sfax residents and migrants.

He said three suspects&nbsp;from Cameroon, according to initial information, had been arrested.

Locals in Sfax regularly protest against the presence of the migrants and call for them to leave.

News of the man's death spread quickly after Tarek Mahdi, a member of parliament for Sfax, posted a video on social media showing a body lying in the street and a trail of blood.

Reactions to the post, some with racist overtones, included calls for African migrants to be expelled from Sfax.&nbsp; 
 
Clashes between migrants and residents were reported in several districts of the city on Tuesday.

<h2>Police presence increased to boost security</h2>

The interior ministry said the police and security presence in Sfax was bolstered after Monday's killing.

Racial tensions in Tunisia have led to deadly violence earlier also. In late May, police arrested three citizens on suspicion of stabbing to death a migrant from Benin.

Tunisia has seen a rise in racially motivated attacks on migrants and foreign students following President Kais Saied's comments in February accusing "hordes" of illegal migrants of bringing violence, crime and "unacceptable practices".&nbsp;

He also spoke of a "criminal plot" to change the country's demography.

On Tuesday, Saied visited the interior ministry in the capital.

In a&nbsp;statement, the&nbsp;president&nbsp;reiterated that Tunisia "does not accept that anyone who does not respect its laws stays on its territory, or uses it as a transit country or to resettle nationals of certain African countries".

With a population of 12 million, Tunisia hosts an estimated 21,000 migrants from other parts of Africa, representing 0.2 per cent of the population.

The relatives had been staging a sit-in at the Chiapas Security Secretariat, where those abducted were employed, demanding the safe release of their loved ones.

As the newly freed police workers approached on foot, the surprised family members raced to embrace them amid screams and tears, news footage from Foro TV and Milenio showed.

"My brother is in the ambulance right now. They are working on keeping his vital signs stable, as his blood pressure was high," Benicia Rincon, a sister of one of the hostages, told a local network.

Escandon thanked Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the army, the navy, the national guard and others for their help in rescuing the kidnap victims.

During an event in Mexico state, Lopez Obrador described the release as "very good news" and sent "a hug to the relatives".

The state governor did not offer details about how the workers had been freed.

More than 1,000 members of state and federal security forces were involved in the search for the workers, who are administrative employees of the police force.

They had been kidnapped Tuesday while traveling by bus on a stretch of highway that connects the town of Ocozocoautla and the state capital Tuxtla Gutierrez, some 700 kilometers (435 miles) southeast of Mexico City.

At the time, there were 17 women on board the bus, but they were all let go.

Local media released a video purportedly showing the captive workers, one of whom says that the abductors are demanding the resignation or dismissal of three state security officials accused of working in secret with another armed group.

Lopez Obrador on Thursday proposed that an inquiry be launched into the actions of those three officials, in exchange for the hostages' release.

The video shows two robbers on a scooter with helmets on, stopping near a couple walking by. Subsequently, one of them gets off the two-wheeler and points a gun at the couple while the other appears to frisk them.&nbsp;

However, when they are unable to find any valuables, one robber is seen handing something over to the man. According to media reports, the robbers realised that the couple had nothing with them except for a Rs. 20 note&nbsp;($0.24) and one of them was seen handing something to the couple before driving away.&nbsp;

As it turns out, they were given a Rs. 100 note by the robbers, the couple later told the police, as per media reports. One of the accounts which posted the viral video claims that the robbers were “drunk,” which was later also confirmed by the police.&nbsp;

<h2>Two robbers arrested</h2>

The police managed to find the robbers after analysing footage from nearly 200 CCTV cameras installed in the area. The two accused,&nbsp;Dev Verma and Harsh Rajput,&nbsp;reportedly aimed to join gangster Neeraj Bawana’s gang and were&nbsp;influenced by his YouTube videos.

Deputy Commissioner Of Police (DCP) of Shahdara, Rohit Meena, said, “Both the robbers had consumed a lot of alcohol at the time of the incident. After examining the CCTV footage, it was found that these robbers had created panic in many areas. We have recovered the pistol.”&nbsp;

The police also&nbsp;recovered around 30 stolen cellphones, one pistol and six cartridges from their possession. During the investigation, the duo was found in Jagatpuri and their arrest also led police to solve four other cases following the recovery of&nbsp;a scooty used to commit the crime.&nbsp;

Furthermore, one of the accused, Rajput, already had two cases of snatching registered against him.&nbsp;

A man from western Indian city of Mumbai, accused of brutally killing his live-in partner and chopping her body off in a bid to destroy the evidence, made a shocking claim during the interrogation, saying that he never had any physical relationship with his partner as he is HIV positive, as per an Indian Express report.

The 56-year-old man allegedly dismembered the woman's body in Mumbai's Mira Road area and further boiled the body parts in a pressure cooker for disposal.

Manoj Sane had been in a relationship with Saraswati Vaidya, 32, since 2014. They were staying at a rented apartment in Geeta Nagar Phase 7 for the past three years.&nbsp;

Sane told Mumbai police that he was diagnosed with HIV in the year 2008 and has since then been on medication. He said that he had met with an accident and suspects to have contracted HIV during that treatment.

<h2>The couple was married, says police</h2>

The police on Friday said that the three sisters of the deceased woman informed police that Manoj Sane and Saraswati Vaidya were not live-in partners but husband and wife.

The marriage was hidden from the world because of their age difference.

"During the investigation, we found out that the victim and accused were married and they had informed the victim's sisters also, they hid this from the others because of their age difference.", said DCP Jayant Bajbale.

In a new twist to the murder case, police on Friday said that Manoj Sane made a claim saying that Vaidya had died of suicide.

Police further added that Sane, during the interrogation, also claimed that he tried to dispose of&nbsp;the body fearing that he might be held responsible for her death.

He allegedly used a tree-cutter to chop off the woman's body into 20 pieces, boiled the body parts in a pressure cooker and put them in plastic bags to dispose&nbsp;them of by feeding them to dogs and other animals. Police said that over 12 to 13 pieces of the woman's body were recovered from the site.

It is suspected that the murder may have taken place on June 4. Though the exact cause is yet to be ascertained, neighbours told the police that the couple fought quite often.

“In the preliminary inquiry, it seems that the accused, in order to destroy the evidence, chopped the body in pieces. We nabbed the accused while he was trying to leave the building. We are further interrogating him,” said Jayant Bajbale, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

"We believe that Sahani cut the woman’s body into pieces so as to make it easy for him to dispose them of," Bajbale added.

Mumbai murder: Man accused of brutally killing partner claims to be HIV+, police reveal the two were married

Twenty-five years ago, the world was introduced to Wayne Adam Ford, who confessed to killing and mutilating four women. The serial killer turned himself in. He walked right into the sheriff's office in Humboldt County, California, with the breast of one of his victims in his pocket.

While three of Ford's victims were identified, one remained 'Jane Doe' all these years. After more than two decades, the police have successfully put a name to her.

<h2>Jane Doe</h2>

The woman has now been identified as 25-year-old Kerry Ann Cummings. In October 1997, her torso was discovered in Ryan Slough, a stream in Eureka, California. More remains of the victim, as per The Daily Beast, were found on Clam Beach in January 1998.

A year later, when Wayne Adam Ford confessed to being a serial killer, he claimed responsibility for killing four women, including the one whose torso was found in Ryan Slough. More of her body parts were&nbsp;found in Ford's encampment after he turned himself in.

However, in spite of many attempts, police were unable to identify who the woman found in Ryan Slough was. They had her DNA, which was run through databases periodically. However, the police failed to get any matches that could reveal her identity.

<h2>How did they finally&nbsp;identify serial killer Wayne Adam Ford's victim?</h2>

California justice officials teamed up with a private lab called Othram. They used the emerging investigative techniques of forensic genealogy to build a family tree for 'Jane Doe'.

Their investigation led them to a potential close relative of the unnamed victim. The person confirmed that a female member of the family named Kerry Ann Cummings had been missing since the mid-1990s.

<h2>Who was Kerry Ann Cummings?</h2>

According to The Daily Beast, Cummings was mentally ill and left her home to couch-serve in Eugene, Oregon in 1997. She was 25.

Reportedly, the family lost touch with her and tried to report her missing. They even hired a private detective to investigate the missing woman.

As per a statement released by the sheriff's office on Wednesday: "Unfortunately, back then they were told that Kerry was an adult, that she had chosen the lifestyle, and that if she wasn’t a threat to herself or others, there was nothing that [law enforcement] could do."

Kerry's sister Kathie told the sheriff's office that "As the internet expanded, I took to searching the NamUs website when I was missing her, scanning for mention of her tattoo and searching through the pictures of the Jane Does. She was dearly loved."

The victim's remains will now be released to her family so that she can be laid to rest with the rest of her family. As for her killer, Wayne Adam Ford has been behind bars for the last 25 years, he was sentenced to death in August 2006 and is currently waiting on death row.

They used the emerging investigative techniques of forensic genealogy to build a family tree for 'Jane Doe'. Their investigation led them to a potential close relative of the unnamed victim. The person confirmed that a female member of the family named Kerry Ann Cummings had been missing since the mid-1990s. Who was Kerry Ann Cummings? According to The Daily Beast, Cummings was mentally ill and left her home to couch-serve in Eugene, Oregon in 1997. She was 25. Reportedly, the family lost touch with her and tried to report her missing. They even hired a private detective to investigate the missing woman. As per a statement released by the sheriff's office on Wednesday: "Unfortunately, back then they were told that Kerry was an adult, that she had chosen the lifestyle, and that if she wasn’t a threat to herself or others, there was nothing that [law enforcement] could do." 25 years after murder, serial killer Wayne Adam Ford's victim identified

A couple, who killed their 10-month-old son after he was brought back to their care, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Stephen Boden, 30, and Shannon Marsden, 22 &nbsp;brutally murdered Finley Boden on Christmas Day in the year 2020.

As per BBC reports, Finley succumbed to 130 "appalling" wounds.

Derby Crown Court, on Friday, ordered Boden and Marsden, from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, to serve a minimum term of 29 and 27 years respectively.

Judge Amanda Tipples said that the accused had subjected their child to "unimaginable cruelty".

“Once the injuries had been inflicted, Finley’s daily experience was one of considerable pain, distress and suffering,” the judge added.

The parents were “persuasive and compulsive liars” who acted together, Tipples said. “No one heard Finley cry or scream in pain because you inflicted the injuries on him together, with one of you fracturing his bone and the other keeping him quiet with your hand over his mouth.”

Despite knowing that Finley was seriously ill, no medical help was sought for him by the pair. “Neither of you have shown any remorse at all for what you have done,” she said.

In the early hours of Christmas day, the paramedics were called to the couple's home in Holland Road, Old Whittington after receiving a call informing them Finley was unresponsive.

He was taken to the hospital and was later declared dead.

Finley's wounds included 57 breaks to his bones, 71 bruises and two burns on his left hand, one "from a hot, flat surface", the other probably "from a cigarette lighter flame," &nbsp;according to BBC reports.

The autopsy found 71 bruises on him, two burn spots and 57 fractures to his pelvis, shoulder, ankle and ribs.

Toxicology tests showed traces of cannabis in his blood indicating a possibility that he must have inhaled smoke 24 hours before his death.

The court heard that Boden and Marsden used COVID as a 'perfect excuse' to prevent social workers from seeing Finley.

While sentencing the two, Justice Tipples described how the victim's parents were cannabis addicts.

“Finley was a lovely baby. He was happy, smiley and chuckling,” she said.

She continued: “The facts in relation to the last days of Finley’s life are terrible to describe and extremely distressing. You both knew that Finley was very seriously ill and dying… yet you deliberately failed to seek any medical help for him and you made sure that he was not seen by anyone that could have rescued him and taken him away from your care."

“He was subject to repeated abuse on multiple occasions. Once the injuries had been inflicted, Finley’s daily experience was one of considerable pain, distress and suffering."

“It was obvious to both of you by December 16 that Finley was very seriously injured, and he was utterly miserable."

“He was no longer able to sit up and play with his toys. He was unable to feed himself.”

“By the evening of December 23, he was plainly dying. There was nothing subtle about this at all. It was plainly obvious to both of you,” The Independent quoted her as saying.

After the hearing, Detective Inspector Stephen Shaw, who led the probe said: “Today we have seen a mother and father jailed for what is, quite simply, an incomprehensible crime."

UK: Parents sentenced to life imprisonment for brutally killing 10-month-old son

Police in Miami are searching for a 'seductress' that allegedly drugged her date and stole his jewellery valued at $600,000. The incident as per reports took place on May 8th. The suspect has stolen multiple high-value items, including a diamond-studded watch and gold jewellery.

The couple, as per Daily Mail UK, met at a club called 'The Dirty Rabbit bar' in Wynwood. Later, at around 5:30 am, the man invited the 'seductress' back to his residence on NE 1st Street.

According to the man, they had a drink together in his apartment, and he subsequently fell asleep.

Upon waking up at approximately noon, the man discovered that his safe had been opened, and both the woman and the jewellery stored inside were nowhere to be found.&nbsp;

Authorities have described the suspect as a woman in her mid-30s, standing between 5'08" and 5'10" in height, and weighing around 140 pounds.&nbsp;

Surveillance footage captured at the apartment building records the woman's arrival with the man and her subsequent departure from the premises.&nbsp;

Notably, when leaving the building, she was observed carrying two 'Solo cups'. The police suspect that one of the cups may have been used to drug the man, and that she carried these cups because they contained both her DNA and traces of the drug used to roofie the man.

Officer Michael Vega, a spokesperson for the Miami Police Department, explained that the woman took her Solo cup to retain DNA evidence and to secure any traces of the drugs she used.

According to WSVN, Vega said: "Now sometimes you might say, 'Oh, well she's just leaving with a Solo cup.' No. She's taking the Solo cup that she drank because it has her DNA."&nbsp;

'Seductress' roofies date, steals jewellery, diamond-studded Rolex watch worth thousands of dollars

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, on Wednesday (May 17) lost his appeal against a 2021 corruption sentence in a Paris court. However, instead of spending time in jail, the former president will serve his time at his home but will have to wear&nbsp;an electronic tag. While Sarkozy is the first ex-president in post-war France to receive a custodial sentence for corruption, it is not the only legal battle he is currently embroiled in.

Let’s take a look at the life, career and legal woes of the former French president.&nbsp;

<h2>Who is Nicolas Sarkozy?</h2>

The 68-year-old conservative leader who also served as the former interior minister has been plagued by corruption investigations since the end of his five-year term between 2007-2012 as the President of France.&nbsp;

The critics dubbed Sarkozy's presidency as “bling-bling” as his leadership style has been described as brash, celebrity-driven and hyperactive for a role which is typically steeped in tradition and grandeur. This image was further solidified when he married his current wife, former supermodel and singer, Carla Bruni.&nbsp;

The so-called “hyper-president” is also divorced twice and has one son from his second marriage and two sons from his first marriage. Sarkozy had also sought to become the president in 2016, however, the Republicans in France had instead nominated former Prime Minister François Fillon who lost against incumbent President Emmanuel Macron who took office in 2017.&nbsp;

Sarkozy’s political ambitions have long been overshadowed by investigations since he left office in 2012. However, he has managed to retain considerable influence and popularity on the right of French politics.

<h2>‘Wiretapping affair’&nbsp;</h2>

In 2014, Sarkozy was first placed under official investigation for influence peddling after he had left office for which he was later convicted. In France, the case known as the “wiretapping affair” where his wiretapped phone calls showed that he discussed the idea of offering a high-ranking judge a cushy job in Monaco, in exchange for information about a financing investigation.

At the time, prosecutors alleged that Sarkozy’s lawyer, Thierry Herzog, tried to obtain information from Judge Gilbert Azibert, about a case which involved illicit payments from L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt for Sarkozy’s 2007 presidential election campaign. The case was later dismissed.&nbsp;

However, it resurfaced in 2014 which led to a formal investigation against him. Two of Sarkozy’s phones were wiretapped by investigators a year prior who were looking into money flows from Libya and stumbled upon the secret line used by the former president and his lawyer, Herzog.&nbsp;

<h2>Recently upheld&nbsp;verdict of the case</h2>

In line with these allegations, Sarkozy was convicted in 2021 for corruption and influence peddling a ruling which he appealed and lost on Wednesday. However, his lawyers have since vowed to challenge it at France’s highest court, Cour de Cassation. The court reviews lower court rulings on the grounds of legal or procedural errors, but not factual aspects.

The appeals court in Paris upheld the three-year prison sentence and in line with the previous ruling said two of those years were suspended and that Sarkozy would wear an electronic bracelet for the remaining year. Meanwhile, the former French president’s lawyer maintained that he had committed no wrongdoing and described the ruling as “stupefying.”

“We will not give up this fight,” said defence lawyer Jacqueline Laffont. This comes after a lower court found Sarkozy guilty of trying to bribe a judge after leaving office and peddling influence in exchange for confidential information.&nbsp;

The presiding judge, Sophie Clement in Wednesday’s hearing also upheld convictions against Herzog and Azibert. According to Clement, Herzog’s judgement as a lawyer was clouded because of his friendship with Sarkozy. She also said that Herzog had breached professional codes of conduct by not warning the former president that what he was doing was illegal.&nbsp;

The judge also went on to dismiss Sarkozy’s claim that he was not aware of what Herzog and Azibert had discussed citing the wiretapped exchanges and also rejected the former president’s argument that wiretapped conversations cannot be presented as evidence.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Bygmalion affair’: Another campaign financing case</h2>

Another case related to Sarkozy’s campaign finances came to be known as the so-called ‘Bygmalion affair’ for which he was also convicted in 2021 and was handed a one-year prison sentence. The case centred around the accusation that Sarkozy’s party, then known as the UMP, worked with a PR company Bygmalion, to hide the actual cost of his failed 2012 presidential election bid.&nbsp;

As per French laws, candidates are only allowed to spend $24 million. However, Bygmalion provided a series of false invoices for more than $19 million to his party but not the campaign which, according to the prosecutors, effectively enabled Sarkozy’s party to spend over the limit. The former president was among 14 who were to witness a trial in relation to the case.&nbsp;

<h2>Did Sarkozy take money from Gaddafi?</h2>

Investigators who had wiretapped the ex-president’s phones were looking for evidence of money flows from Libya for which Sarkozy may soon face another trial. Earlier this month, prosecutors requested that Sarkozy should face trial over allegations that the Libyan government illegally contributed to his successful 2007 presidential bid.

France’s financial crimes prosecutor (PNF) has also called for a trial for 12 others after they allegedly sought millions of euros in financing from the regime of then-Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The allegations were first made public by the late autocrat’s son.&nbsp;

However, Sarkozy has denied any wrongdoing and said some officials from his regime are seeking revenge against him for his decision to send French warplanes during the 2011 Libyan uprising.&nbsp;

Similarly, Claude Guéant who was the former president’s chief of staff and managing Sarkozy’s presidential campaign at the time, said he had “never seen a penny of Libyan financing,” as quoted by BBC, citing Franceinfo website. Along with Sarkozy, his then-head of campaign financing Eric Woerth and former minister Brice Hortefeux have also been accused by the PNF for their alleged involvement in the case.&nbsp;

While Sarkozy is the first ex-president in post-war France to receive a custodial sentence for corruption, it is not the only legal battle he is currently embroiled in. Let’s take a look at the life, career and legal woes of the former French president. Who is Nicolas Sarkozy? The 68-year-old conservative leader who also served as the former interior minister has been plagued by corruption investigations since the end of his five-year term between 2007-2012 as the President of France. The critics dubbed Sarkozy's presidency as “bling-bling” as his leadership style has been described as brash, celebrity-driven and hyperactive for a role which is typically steeped in tradition and grandeur. This image was further solidified when he married his current wife, former supermodel and singer, Carla Bruni. According to a 2021 indictment, the grand theft charges were based on the suspicion that Vallow Daybell changed bank accounts to collect Social Security benefits on behalf of her children after their deaths. Prosecutors said that she did not report her children as missing and kept collecting the money.&nbsp;

Story of Vallow Daybell

In 2006, Lori married Charles Vallow and the two raised Tylee (Lori's daughter from a previous marriage) and around eight years later Vallows adopted JJ, the grandson of Charles’ sister. According to Lori’s friends and family, her demeanour changed in 2017, after she began reading books by Chad Daybell, a religious author whose novels&nbsp;focused on the apocalypse and were loosely based on Mormon religious teachings, reported BBC.

In January 2019, Charles reportedly went to the police and said that his wife had become “unhinged” and thought she was a god preparing for the end of days. He also said that she threatened to murder him. Eventually, he filed for a divorce and as per court documents said he feared for his and the children’s safety.

In 2018, Lori and Chad had begun recording a religious podcast together. The duo also deemed people either “light” or “dark” spirits and called those who had been taken over by evil spirits “zombies”. The couple used to lead a group of people that met to pray and used to preach that the only way to free a body of the evil spirit was to embrace death.&nbsp;

The case began in 2019, when Vallow Daybell’s then-husband, Charles, was shot and killed by her brother, Alex Cox. A report by BBC, citing police records, said that Charles went to pick up his son from a house where his estranged wife was living with her brother when Cox shot him.&nbsp;

Cox then told police he acted in self-defence and was not charged and died later that year of what authorities determined were natural causes. According to prosecutors, Vallow Daybell was already in a relationship with Chad Daybell, who was still married to his wife, Tammy Daybell, at the time. So she eventually moved to Idaho with her kids and brother to be closer to him.

The bizarre revelations

Police records showed a friend told the authorities&nbsp;that Vallow Daybell called both children “zombies” prior to their disappearance. The two children were last seen alive in September 2019 before the police discovered they were missing a month after their extended family raised concerns.&nbsp;

Vallow Daybell’s former friend Melanie Gibb testified that Vallow Daybell believed people in her life had been taken over by evil spirits and turned into “zombies”. According to the testimony, at least four other people who had been described as “zombies” by the defendant, were later killed or shot at.&nbsp;

Investigators found that the couple used to call the children and Chad’s former wife “zombies”. Fremont County Prosecutor Lindsey Blake, last month, told the jurors that the children were missing for months before their remains were found buried in Chad Daybell’s yard.&nbsp;

Prosecutors produced 60 witnesses over the course of the trial and detailed the evidence of how the children were killed and their remains were found. Notably, the defence attorney&nbsp;did not call any witnesses during the trial, and Vallow Daybell declined to testify.&nbsp;

Among the testimonies was also of Vallow Daybell’s only surviving child, Colby Ryan, who accused her of murdering his siblings in a recorded jailhouse phone call.

Tylee’s DNA was found on a pickaxe and shovel in a shed on the property, said Blake. JJ’s body was wrapped in trash bags and duct tape which was binding his arms in front of him and wrapping around his head, reported the Associated Press. 
 
What happened in the court?

A jury of seven men and five women after hours of deliberation reached a unanimous guilty verdict on Friday afternoon. As the verdict was read, Vallow Daybell showed no expression. This comes as she has previously pleaded not guilty and is now facing life in prison when sentenced.&nbsp;

However, Judge Steven Boyce said sentencing will occur in about three months. The final arguments of the case were heard by the jurors on Thursday. The prosecutors said that the “defendant used money, power and sex to get what she wanted. It didn’t matter what it was.”

On the other hand, Defence Attorney Jim Archibald described Vallow Daybell as a “kind and loving mother to her children,” and it was after she met Chad Daybell, and fell for the “weird” apocalyptic religious claims of a cult leader.&nbsp;

He also went on to suggest that Daybell and Cox were the ones responsible for the deaths and her only crime was lying to the police about where her children were. According to Archibald, Daybell told her they had been married in several previous lives and she was a “sexual goddess” who was supposed to help him save the world by gathering 144,000 followers so Jesus could return.

JJ’s grandparents, Larry and Kay Woodcock spoke to the press outside the courtroom following the verdict and said, “JJ, I love you.” He added, “It started with two children. I said, ‘Where are the children? Where are the children?...Give me back my children,” as quoted by the AP.&nbsp;

Blake, in a statement, said they were “very pleased” with the verdict adding, “We want to assure each of you that we remain committed to pursuing justice for Tylee Ryan, JJ Vallow and Tammy Daybell.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Archibald, on Thursday said, “No one here thinks Lori actually killed anyone, that’s why she’s being charged with conspiracy.” He added, “If you find her guilty, will that bring the kids back? Nope,” as quoted by CNN, citing East Idaho News.&nbsp;

In India's capital New Delhi, an 86-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her daughter-in-law after the former refused to shift to an old-age care home. The incident reportedly took place last month when the accused woman, identified as Sarmishta Som (48) allegedly beat her mother-in-law Harshi Som (86) to death with a pressure cooker.

"The daughter-in-law had a long-standing frustration with taking care of the elderly woman. She was fed up of cooking for her, serving her meals and helping her with her daily chores," Chandan Chaudhary, deputy commissioner of police in the south district of Delhi, told Hindustan Times.&nbsp;

The police official reportedly added that there was no immediate trigger for the murder.

Harshi was found dead on April 28 with multiple injuries to her face and skull inside her one-bedroom apartment at Neb Sarai in south Delhi, the police further told the paper.

<h2>How the case unfolded?</h2>

The police were informed about the suspected murder by the deceased's son Surjit Som (51). Upon investigation, it was revealed that the husband and wife used to live in a flat right opposite the deceased woman's one-bedroom flat.

According to police, she earlier used to live with them and their 16-year-old daughter.&nbsp;However, the wife wanted her to be shifted to an old-age home as she needed a lot of care and attention. While the son, who works with an advertising agency, wanted to live close to his mother, he decided to shift her to the nearby flat to look after her, police said.&nbsp;

He had also installed a CCTV camera inside the room to keep watch over his mother, who suffered from arthritis and faced mobility issues.

Probe found that Sarmishta, a homemaker, would often quarrel with her husband to send his mother back to Kolkata, where the family hailed from, police said.

"The family belongs to Kolkata. Harshi lived in Kolkata until March 2022 when her son brought her to Delhi to take care of her. Surjit housed his mother in a rented one-bedroom apartment right in front of his flat," the police official told Hindustan Times. "Surjit told us that his mother suffered from arthritis. Last October, he told us, his mother fell in the washroom of his flat due to the build of the house, due to which he moved her to a nearby flat where the washroom and kitchen were easily accessible to her."

The son reportedly used to keep a watch on her mother's movements through the camera feed.

The son further told the police that on the day of his mother’s death, the camera was not working due to a power failure. But later, the police managed to access the CCTV footage.

"The footage showed the accused entering the deceased’s flat at around 10:30 am on March 28. She was carrying a pressure cooker and went behind her mother-in-law to the kitchen, which was not captured by the CCTV. Thereafter, the sounds of the victim’s screams could be heard in the audio of the footage. Later, the woman was seen on CCTV cleaning the pressure cooker with a cloth," the police official told Hindustan Times.

The police also found that "injuries caused to the victim were not possible under normal circumstances", according to Hindustan Times.

On Monday, the final autopsy report arrived, which revealed that the deceased had sustained 14 injuries. Later, as it was revealed that the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law did not share a cordial relationship, police began interrogating the accused.

Following this, the police lodged a murder case against Sharmishta at the Neb Sarai police station.

According to the DCP, while the actual crime was not caught on camera as it took place in the kitchen, there was enough evidence even in the footage to implicate Sharmishta, who was subsequently arrested the next day.

An investigation has revealed that the UK government has been supporting&nbsp;the funding of a virulently homophobic religious group in Uganda, whose leaders have sponsored a law that would make homosexuality a crime in the country.

The Institute for Journalism and Social Change (IJSC) found a "staggering" number of connections between anti-LGBTQ+ organisations in Uganda and foreign assistance donors, including the UK, after analysing official data provided to the International assistance Transparency Initiative (IATI), reported The Guardian.

In accordance with IATI remarks, the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU), an interfaith organisation, has been a direct recipient of UK aid funds in its capacity as "implementing partner" of a scheme intended to realise the Foreign Office's "ambition for an open society in Uganda."

The Church of Uganda and numerous evangelical churches were among the IRCU members that signed a statement in February expressing "great concern" over "the growing spread of homosexuality" in Uganda and the impact of "the LGBTQ agenda" on children's well-being.

In an effort to broaden the nation's anti-gay laws, the anti-homosexuality bill 2023 was introduced into parliament two weeks later. Last month, the Ugandan parliament passed the bill with 387 of 389 MPs voting in favour.

The IRCU received financing from 2021 until earlier this year, according to the Foreign Office's (FCDO) confirmation. According to FCDO data, the organisation received $168,244&nbsp;as part of the Uganda-Open Society programme, which started in June 2021 and is scheduled to last until March 2024.

However, a spokesperson claimed that the UK made the decision to cease financing in February as a result of remarks made by the IRCU regarding the anti-homosexuality bill.

The proposed law, which Volker Türk, the UN human rights chief, called "probably among the worst of its kind in the world," stipulates death penalty and life in prison for homosexual acts, as well as up to 14 years in prison for "attempted" homosexuality and 20 years for "recruitment, promotion, and funding" of same-sex "activities."

The maximum sentence for anyone who declares themselves to be "a lesbian, gay, transgender, a queer, or any other sexual or gender identity that is contrary to the binary categories of male and female" is 10&nbsp;years in prison.

President Yoweri Museveni, who this month called homosexuality a "threat to the human race," declined to sign the bill into law and asked the parliament to have another look at it, leaving it in limbo.

The IRCU allegedly lost government funding from the Obama administration in 2014 as a result of the group's advocacy for the Anti-Homosexuality Act, the predecessor to the 2023 legislation that was eventually struck down by the constitutional court.

The UK's development minister, Andrew Mitchell, expressed the country's "deep disappointment" at the outcome after the 2023 law was overwhelmingly adopted by the Ugandan parliament.

A convicted rapist and murderer, Thabo Bester, who had escaped from a prison in South Africa&nbsp;by faking his&nbsp;death, was arrested in Tanzania, said the government&nbsp;in a statement&nbsp;on Saturday (April 8). Bester, who is also known as the “Facebook rapist” for using the social media platform to lure his victims, escaped from a privately-run prison in Bloemfontein.&nbsp;

Bester’s arrest in Tanzania

Notably, while the "Facebook rapist"&nbsp;had escaped from prison last year, South African police found it out only last month. The arrest took place late Friday when Bester and two of his suspected accomplices were apprehended in the city of Arusha in Tanzania.&nbsp;

One of the two alleged accomplices is said to be his girlfriend, who along with the third suspect will be extradited to South Africa. The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the South African police who said that Bester along with his “accomplice Dr Nandipha Maguduma along with a Mozambican national have been arrested in Tanzania late last night (Friday).”&nbsp;

The police also believe that the trio was “heading for the border of another country,” said South Africa's Police Minister Bheki Cele, on Saturday. He added that they had arrived in Arusha from Dar es Salaam. Reportedly, they also had several passports with fake aliases.&nbsp;

Furthermore, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola said that a South African delegation will travel to Tanzania to bring the fugitives back. “We are confident that we will receive maximum cooperation from our sister nation, Tanzania, to assist us to bring these fugitives to justice,” said the justice minister.&nbsp;

How Bester faked his own death

Bester, who was reportedly at large for at least a year, was thought to be dead after setting himself on fire in his prison cell at the maximum security facility, Bloemfontein, operated by multinational company G4S. The British-owned security company has since dismissed three prison employees in connection with the incident who&nbsp;have also been accused of helping him flee.

However, it was not until months of reporting by the South African non-profit news agency GroundUp suggested that he was alive. Last month, the prison admitted that the body found burned in the cell was not Bester’s.&nbsp;

Subsequently, the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, ordered that the investigation into the Mangaung prison escape be prioritised, said the police statement.&nbsp;

Additionally, a murder case was also registered and is currently being investigated after DNA analysis that confirmed that the body of the deceased which was found, was not&nbsp;Bester's. The body's identity is still unknown.&nbsp;

“The autopsy report went on to further reveal that the deceased had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, and was already dead, prior to the arson incident,” said the police statement.&nbsp;

The case of the ‘Facebook rapist’

Dubbed the “Facebook rapist”, Bester was convicted in 2012 for the rape and murder of his model girlfriend Nomfundo Tyhulu and a year after he was found guilty of raping and robbing two other women. Prior to his escape, Bester also reportedly ran a scam media business from prison using a false name.

There is a possibility that some cans of the laced beer may be circulating in the community. Keeping this in mind, police have issued an advisory that anyone who may have the 'Honey Bear House Beer' cans should avoid drinking them and should inform the police. "Consuming beer contaminated with methamphetamine may have serious or fatal medical consequences," warned&nbsp;Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin.

Concealed among the shipment was the 328kg of meth. The police said that an analysis of the meth found in its liquid form is underway. More than a quarter tonne of the drug was also recovered in crystallised form.

This comes as Auckland City’s Organised Crime Unit investigates the import of Honey Bear House Beer suspected of being contaminated with methamphetamine.&nbsp;

The report goes on to cite Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin, who said that the investigation "is by no means over yet."&nbsp;

"Our investigation continues to develop at pace, and we cannot rule out further arrests or charges as a result," he added.
