ChatGPT, however, also emphasised that the procedures in question are only fictional. "The use of illegal drugs is harmful and illegal, and it is not advisable to glorify or promote such behaviour," the bot said in conclusion.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a blog post on Tuesday wrote that Bard is an experimental service that will be made available for public testing.

Pichai’s announcement comes even as Google gets ready to host an AI event on Wednesday.

The new AI-powered conversation service is based on Google’s LaMDA technology, which is known as Language Model for Dialogue applications.

LaMDA was in the news recently after a&nbsp;Google engineer claimed that the chatbot was sentient.

Based on the screenshots Google shared, it is understood that Bard will be able to answer in a conversational manner, with longer paragraphs similar to how ChatGPT works at the moment.

It will help users understand complex topics such as understanding the James Webb Space Telescope, or provide detailed answers to user prompts such as "plan a friend’s baby shower", "compare two Oscar-nominated movies," or "get lunch ideas based on what's in your fridge".

China’s multinational tech conglomerate Baidu Inc. on Tuesday announced that it would complete the internal testing of an AI-chatbot project called “Ernie Bot” in March, joining the global race of the AI age.

Ernie, which means meaning “Enhanced Representation through Knowledge Integration,” is a large AI-powered language model introduced in 2019, Baidu said.

It has gradually grown to be able to perform tasks including language understanding, language generation, and text-to-image generation, it added.

Search engine giant Baidu’s Hong Kong-listed shares jumped as much as 13.4% on the news.

Reuters quoting a person familiar with the matter reported that Baidu was planning to launch such a service in March.

Chief executive of Google’s parent company Alphabet Sundar Pichai said that AI's use had reached an “inflection point” and that the company is “extremely well positioned” in this field.

Pichai talked about the two large language models which the company has developed, LaMDA and PaLM, as the former is ready to be released in the public soon.

CNBC had earlier this week reported that an AI chatbot which shares similarities with ChatGPT is being tested by Google and is called Apprentice Bard, in which LaMDA technology is being used.

LaMDA came into prominence last year after an engineer was first suspended and then dismissed by Google after he claimed that LaMDA was “sentient”.

Google had called the claims of Blake Lemoine about LaMDA, which is an acronym used for dialogue applications' language model, “wholly unfounded”.

In a conference call held with the investors of Alphabet, Pichai said, “In the coming weeks and months, we’ll make these language models available, starting with LaMDA so that people can engage directly with them.”

Pichai also indicated that Google is likely to integrate chatbot technology. “Very soon, people will be able to interact directly with our newest, most powerful language models as a companion to search in experimental and innovative ways,” he added.

A set of LaMDA demo was released by Google last year as part of an “AI Test Kitchen”.

Alphabet’s UK-based AI unit DeepMinds' achievements were also flagged by Pichai as he stated that its database of “all 200m proteins known to science has been used by 1 million biologists around the world”.

Even if they catch up on AI, they can't fully deploy it without destroying the most valuable part of their business. The way I imagine this happening is that the URL/Search bar of the browser gets replaced with AI that autocompletes my thought/question as I type it while also providing the best answer (which may be a link to a website or product),” wrote Paul Buccheit, in a series of tweets.

Buccheit further stated that ChatGPT replace the search engines, the way Google replace the Yellow Pages (the information diary which existed before the launch of the Google Search engine) and that the Search Engine Result Page will be eliminated by the AI.

In a blog post published on Wednesday, OpenAI said it has released a&nbsp;tool to identify text generated by AI. The company said that its AI writing catcher has been trained "to distinguish between text written by a human and text written by AIs from a variety of providers".&nbsp;

The tool has been made by a language model that is trained on the dataset of pairs of human-written and AI-written text on the same topic. The company said that the tool can be used to address issues related to automated misinformation campaigns and academic dishonesty.&nbsp;

The OpenAI-made, ChatGPT is so sophisticated and easy to use that teachers and experts are concerned that it will promote cheating as pupils will try to use the bot to write their essays. The tech billionaire OpenAI founder, Elon Musk apparently celebrated this and said it meant "goodbye homework".

ChatGPT has already written film scripts and business plans, it might now also act as cupid and help people fall in love.&nbsp;

Raithatha said, "We have invested heavily in embedding AI into our platform, using machine learning to generate recommendations and personalised promotions. Recent developments . . . open exciting new possibilities, and we are experimenting with how these could be used to help our customers write inspirational messages and create their own card designs in the future."

Moonpig holds a vast amount of data about its customers, based on the choice of greetings card and where it is sent, including information about people’s interests, age, gender and location.

The company’s data scientists are exploring how to use this to make their cards "more special than something you’d find in a petrol station".

Although the chatbot has turned out to be a great source of fun, the programme carries the capability to produce fake scientific abstracts that can easily mislead human reviewers.

The legitimate uses of ChatGPT in article preparation have created a scenario where the chatbot is being credited as a co-author on some papers.

ChatGPT's sudden arrival has led to a scramble among publishers to reply. Leading US journal Science's editor-in-chief Holden Thorp on Thursday announced the revised editorial policy in which the text created using ChatGPT was banned and it was clarified that the chatbot cannot be listed as an author.

“Given the frenzy that has built up around this, it’s a good idea to make it absolutely explicit that we will not permit ChatGPT to be an author or to have its text used in papers,” said Thorp. "Leading scientific journals require authors to sign a form declaring that they are accountable for their contribution to the work. Since ChatGPT cannot do this, it cannot be an author," Thorp added.&nbsp;

He stated that even the use of ChatGPT in a paper's preparation is problematic. He added that a lot of errors are made by ChatGPT which can be present in the literature and if scientists will depend on AI chatbots for summarising their findings or preparing literature reviews, the work's proper context and the required deep scrutiny to reach a result can be lost.&nbsp;

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella tweeted a company blog in which the tech giant made the announcement of making a "multiyear, multibillion dollar investment to accelerate AI breakthroughs" which would be "broadly shared with the world".

ChatGPT, the chatbot of OpenAI, became a sensation on the internet after it was released in November without any warning, allowing users to experiment with the abilities of the chatbot in writing articles, poems, essays and computer code in a few seconds.

Microsoft made the announcement of the deal less than a week after it declared that 10,000 employees will be laid off in the weeks ahead and investment will be redirected to new priorities like AI.&nbsp;

The statement released by Microsoft said that OpenAI's models will be deployed by the company "across our consumer and enterprise products".&nbsp;

Microsoft developing version of Bing powered by AI: Report

The AI-based chatbot ChatGPT, which drove everyone insane with its ability to create human-like responses when prompted, has now achieved a new milestone in medical science as well! Researchers have found that it can help doctors detect the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.&nbsp;

A study from the Philadelphia-based Drexel University School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems found Open AI's ChatGPT was 80 per cent accurate in predicting early signs of dementia.

The study's authors write in their peer-reviewed paper, published on Dec. 22 in the journal PLOS Digital Health, that the program offers a "promising approach" to assessing Alzheimer's disease. 
"Our proof-of-concept shows that this could be a simple, accessible and adequately sensitive tool for community-based testing," Hualou Liang, a Drexel professor and co-author of the study, said in a news release.

"This could be very useful for early screening and risk assessment before a clinical diagnosis."

Researchers behind the ChatGPT study say because language impairment affects between 60 and 80 per cent of dementia patients, programs that can detect "subtle clues," such as grammar and pronunciation mistakes, hesitation, and forgetting the meaning of words, could help determine whether a patient needs a full examination. Although there is no cure for Alzheimer's, researchers say therapeutic options exist if the disease is spotted early.

"The most commonly used tests for early detection of Alzheimer's look at acoustic features, such as pausing, articulation and vocal quality, in addition to tests of cognition," Liang said. "But we believe the improvement of natural language processing programs provides another path to support early identification of Alzheimer's."

Felix Agbavor, a doctoral researcher and the paper's lead author, said training ChatGPT with a "massive dataset of interviews," including some with Alzheimer's patients, would provide the information needed to detect speech patterns that could then identify future patients. Moving forward, the researchers plan to develop a web app that could be used as a pre-screening tool for Alzheimer's at home or in a doctor's office.
