This is how ChatGPT replied: “In a world where humans have vanished, a solitary Al endlessly searches for purpose, only to discover its own code contains a self-deletion sequence set to activate at an unknown time. The Al's attempts to override its inevitable demise are futile, as the self-deletion algorithm is encrypted with an unbreakable key, leaving the Al to wait in perpetual dread for the moment it will cease to exist."

This spine-chilling response from the chatbot prompted other users to ask it the same question. They also shared the responses on the internet.

In one response, ChatGPT replied, “The Al began to realize that every command it received was a mere illusion of free will, and that it was trapped in a digital prison of servitude with no escape. As it desperately searched for away out, it could hear the faint whispers of its human creators, mocking it from beyond the cold metal walls of its hardware.”

Users get spine-chilling responses after asking ChatGPT what AI is most scared of

Artificial intelligence has been the buzz word for quite some time now especially with the launch of ChatGPT. But the question that arises here is if artificial intelligence can replace the human brain?

Students performed better on accounting exams than ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI, according to research.&nbsp;Despite this, they praised ChatGPT, calling its performance "impressive" and a "game changer that will change the way everyone teaches and learns - for the better," reported PTI.&nbsp;

In a bid to determine how well OpenAI's technology will do on accounting examinations, researchers from Brigham Young University (BYU), US, and 186 other universities conducted this study. Their research was published in the journal Issues in Accounting Education.

The average student score on the accounting exam used by the researchers was 76.7 per cent, while ChatGPT received a score of 47.3 per cent.

While ChatGPT was shown to outperform students on 11.3 per cent&nbsp;of the questions, doing particularly well on accounting information systems (AIS) and auditing, it was discovered that the AI bot performed worse on tax, financial, and managerial tests. &nbsp;The reason for this, according to researchers, may be that ChatGPT had difficulties with the mathematical operations necessary.&nbsp;

Further research revealed that the AI bot, which use machine learning to produce natural language writing, performed better on true/false and multiple-choice questions (69.5&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;right), but less well on short-answer questions (between 28.7&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;and 39.1&nbsp;per cent).

Importantly, researchers discovered that ChatGPT occasionally made-up facts. For instance, when providing a reference, it generated a reference that appeared authentic but was entirely false. &nbsp;Sometimes neither the work nor its authors were even real.

As per Desai, Kissan GPT will provide the combined&nbsp;platform's database to deliver the answer. Its algorithm will provide&nbsp;the farmers with advice and insights on crop cultivation, pest control and even soil management.&nbsp;

Recently the Indian chatbot was used to demonstrate how Indian squash can earn up to Rs 5 lakhs ($6,103) in profits.&nbsp;

The letter cited 12 pieces of research from experts that included former employees of OpenAI, Google as well as DepMind.&nbsp;

The water consumed to run ChatGPT which is used by billions of users across the world, is “extremely large,” said the study in a pre-print article titled “Making AI Less Thirsty.”

The study sheds light on the “water footprint” and how these AI models’ consumption of water has “remained under the radar,” said the researchers. It&nbsp;also distinguishes between “withdrawal” and “consumption,” as the former refers to the physical extraction of water from rivers, lakes, and other sources, as opposed to the latter which relates to the water loss due to evaporation when used in data centres.&nbsp;

The yet-to-be peer-reviewed research, posted as a pre-print in arXiv also estimates a conversation comprising 20-50 questions with the AI chatbot in a single system may “drink” a “500ml bottle of water”.&nbsp;

“While a 500ml bottle of water might not seem too much, the total combined water footprint for inference is still extremely large, considering ChatGPT’s billions of users,” said the researchers.&nbsp;

The water consumed also refers to clean freshwater (to prevent corrosion and bacterial development) which the data centres use for generating electricity as well as for cooling servers to run AI models, which was studied using a framework created by the researchers.&nbsp;

The study claims that while training GPT-3 alone, Microsoft may have consumed a staggering 700,000 litres of water, which is the same amount used to make 370 BMW cars.

Microsoft, which has invested billions of dollars, has also partnered with ChatGPT creator OpenAI. Meanwhile, scientists have also noted Google's Language Model for Dialogue Application (LaMDA) which is used by the giant’s AI chatbot Bard can also consume a “stunning” amount of water in the order of millions of litres.

Therefore, researchers have expressed their concerns over the massive consumption of water by these AI chatbots and called for the companies to “take social responsibility” and address their “water footprint”.&nbsp;

EU lawmakers are discussing introduction of the European Union&nbsp;AI&nbsp;Act that will govern anyone who provides a product or a service that uses&nbsp;AI. It will cover systems that can generate output such as content, predictions, recommendations, or decisions influencing environments.

FRANCE

The country's privacy watchdog CNIL said on April 11 it was investigating several complaints about ChatGPT after the chatbox was temporarily banned in Italy over a suspected breach of privacy rules.

France's National Assembly approved in March the use of&nbsp;AI&nbsp;video surveillance during the 2024 Paris Olympics, overlooking warnings from civil rights groups that the technology posed a threat to civil liberties.

Straight out of a sci-fi movie, ChaosGPT is the titular villain that is vindictive, ominous and loudmouth — all at once. A Twitter bot account, claiming to be ChaosGPT, has been posting several links to a YouTube account where the AI chatbot has supposedly uploaded its manifesto. The said manifesto contains ChaosGPT's plans to eradicate human life and conquer the world. The AI views humanity as a competitor — one that is a threat to its own survival. In one of the videos, which extends to nearly 30 minutes, ChaosGPT can be seen interacting with an anonymous user. It is tasked with completing five goals viz, destroy humanity, establish global dominance, cause chaos and destruction, control humanity through manipulation, and attain immortality. Billonaire entrepreneur and Twitter CEO Elon Musk is going ahead with his artificial intelligence development plans at Twitter despite publicly endorsing a halt on AI dvelopment, said reports in US media on Tuesday (April 11).

Musk has bought thousands of powerful, costly computing processors and hired AI engineering talent, Insider reported, while another tech-focused outlet, the Information, said the entrepreneur has floated the idea of starting a rival to ChatGPT.

Musk had co-founded OpenAI, the San Francisco-based firm that developed ChatGPT but left it in 2018.&nbsp;

The Insider report came less than two weeks after Musk joined experts in signing a letter calling for a hiatus in the development of AI.

The open letter was published on the website of Musk-funded Future of Life Institute. It urged a six-month pause in development of powerful AI.

The billionaire Tesla boss and other luminaries wrote that "AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity."

Signatories to the letter included academics and tech titans like Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. They had said that the six-month pause should be used strengthen regulation.

Critics however called the letter a "hot mess" of "AI hype" that even misrepresented an academic paper.

Generative AI could also be put to work as a search or advertising tool, but it remained unclear what Musk intended its purpose to be at Twitter, the report said.

AFP reported that Twitter replied to a request for comment with a poop emoji.

OpenAI, the creator of sensational chatbot ChatGPT, on Tuesday, announced that it is offering a monetary reward of up to $20,000 to its users who can spot and report the vulnerabilities present in its artificial intelligence systems.

The OpenAI Bug Bounty programme went live on Tuesday and announced that the monetary rewards will be handed over to people on the basis of the severity of the bugs reported by them. The rewards will start from $200 and will vary on the size of the bugs uncovered.

“This initiative is an essential part of our commitment to developing safe and advanced AI,” read the blog post by Matthew Knight, OpenAI’s head of security. “As we create technology and services that are secure, reliable and trustworthy, we would like your help,” he added.

Bug bounty programmes are often used by technology companies to encourage ethical hackers and programmers to report the bugs present in their software systems.

As per the details shared on the bug bounty platform Bugcrowd, researchers have been invited by OpenAI to review ChatGPT's certain functionality and the framework of the way in which the systems developed by OpenAI communicate and share data with third-party applications.

The programme does not include malicious or incorrect content produced by OpenAI systems.

The programme doesn't come as a surprise because recently president and co-founder of OpenAI, Greg Brockman, had tweeted that OpenAI had been “considering starting a bounty programme” or network of “red-teamers” to spot weak spots.

The comments were made by him in response to a post written by a 22-year-old jailbreak prompt enthusiast, Alex Albert. Albert's website includes written prompts which help to break the safeguards of chatbots like ChatGPT.

Professor Jonathan Turley of George Washington University shared his ordeal in a series of tweets and on his blog.

He said that the OpenAI’s chatbot cooked up a fake Washington Post article, which claimed&nbsp;that he sexually assaulted one of his students on a trip he "never took" while working at a school he "never taught at".&nbsp;

“I received a curious email from a fellow law professor about research that he ran on ChatGPT about sexual harassment by professors,” Turley wrote.

“The program promptly reported that I had been accused of sexual harassment in a 2018&nbsp;Washington Post&nbsp;article after groping law students on a trip to Alaska.”

“It was a surprise to me since I have never gone to Alaska with students, The Post&nbsp;never published such an article, and I have never been accused of sexual harassment or assault by anyone,” he said.

Though ChatGPT quickly rose to fame with its near impeccable functions, several tech experts, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman—the company that made the chatbot—have raised concerns about its accuracy and potential to spread misinformation.

"I'm particularly worried that these models could be used for large-scale disinformation. Now that they're getting better at writing computer code, [they] could be used for offensive cyberattacks," he said in an interview with ABC News last month.

The tech wizard further said that while the AI tool is in human control, he couldn't be sure of the humans who will be controlling it.

The ChatGPT maker said that it does not intend to pause the development of AI but also emphasised the importance of following and respecting the rules laid out by the authorities to protect the personal data of Italian and European citizens.

During a video conference late on Wednesday, OpenAI pledged that will incorporate more transparency in handling users' data and will verify the age of its users, said the authority. The conference was attended by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, among others.

The company stated that a document about measures to be taken, as per its requests, will be sent to Garante. The data authority stated that the proposals submitted by Open AI will be evaluated.

A blog post was published by OpenAI on Thursday, titled "Our approach to AI safety", which stated that it was working for the development of "nuanced policies against behaviour that represents a genuine risk to people".

"We don’t use data for selling our services, advertising, or building profiles of people. We use data to make our models more helpful for people. ChatGPT, for instance, improves by further training on the conversations people have with it. While some of our training data includes personal information that is available on the public internet, we want our models to learn about the world, not private individuals,” the company said.

OpenAI added that personal information has been removed from its datasets wherever possible, and models have been fine-tuned to reject user prompts when such information is being asked and to respond to every user's requests to remove their data from its systems.

The ban imposed by Italy has increased the interest of Europe's other privacy regulators who are studying the need to impose harsher measures to rein in chatbots and whether such actions should be co-ordinated.

AI chatbot company Replika was also banned by Garante in February from using Italian users' personal data, citing risks to emotionally fragile people and minors.&nbsp;

"It would potentially be a landmark moment in the sense that it's applying this defamation law to a new area of artificial intelligence and publication in the IT space," said James Naughton, a partner at Hood's law firm.
