<p>As per a state filing, in March, Musk registered a company named X.AI Corp in Nevada. The document lists him as the sole director of the firm, while Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk's family office, is listed as the secretary.</p>

<p>Dan Hendrycks, who currently serves as the director of the Center for AI Safety, with his work focusing on the risks associated with AI, will serve as an adviser to the xAI team.</p>

<p>Anthropic, headquartered in San Francisco, has coined its safety approach as "Constitutional AI." This methodology involves employing a set of principles to guide the chatbot's decision-making process while generating text. By drawing inspiration from various influential documents and frameworks, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Claude 2 aims to prioritise responsible and ethical text generation.</p>

<p>The Writers' Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) has recently expressed its concerns over the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential impact on the income of UK authors.</p>

'Warren Wooffett': Dog defeats ChatGPT in contest to select profitable shares

<p>Artificial intelligence leader OpenAI's co-founder Ilya Sutskever warned that the superintelligence of the technology needs to be controlled so as to prevent the extinction of the human race.<br />

"Superintelligence will be the most impactful technology humanity has ever invented, and could help us solve many of the world’s most important problems. But the vast power of superintelligence could also be very dangerous, and could lead to the disempowerment of humanity or even human extinction," wrote Ilya Sutskever and head of alignment Jan Leike in a blog post, stating that they believe such advancements could arrive as soon as this decade.<br />

They said that new institutions for governance will be required for managing such risks and solving the superintelligence alignment's problem like ensuring AI systems, which are smarter than humans, continue to "follow human intent."</p>

We need new scientific and technical breakthroughs,” the blog post read.<br />

They stated that in order to solve these issues, within a period of four years, they have been leading a new team and dedicating 20 per cent of the computing power, which has been secured till now, for this effort.<br />

"While this is an incredibly ambitious goal and we’re not guaranteed to succeed, we are optimistic that a focused, concerted effort can solve this problem," they stated.</p>

<h2><strong>Aligning superintelligent AI with human intent</strong></h2>

<p>The new team, apart from working towards improvising current OpenAI models like ChatGPT and mitigating risks, is also focused on the challenges of machine learning which involves aligning superintelligent AI systems with human intent.<br />

The team's goal is to devise a roughly human-level automated alignment researcher, with the use of vast amounts of computing to scale it and "iteratively align superintelligence."<br />
<br />
So as to do it, OpenAI will be developing a scalable training method, as well as validating the model achieved as part of its result and then a stress test of its alignment pipeline will be carried out.</p>

US judge fines lawyers for using ChatGPT to produce fake legal history

<p>Data of more than 1,00,000 users of ChatGPT were leaked online, with India and Pakistan topping the list.</p>

<p>A new report by Group-IB, a cybersecurity leader based in Singapore, has found that as many as 1,01,134 stealer-infected devices with saved ChatGPT credentials are being sold in the dark web between June 2022 and May 2023.</p>

<p>Last month alone, they claimed to have found more than 26,800 ChatGPT credentials, a peak since Group-IB began tracking the data.</p>

<p>The Threat Intelligence Unit of the Group-IB has revealed that India (12,632), Pakistan (9,217), and Brazil (6,531) were among the top countries where users were impacted by the cyberattack.</p>

<p>The report further mentions that most of these credentials were traded in the Asia-Pacific region.</p>

<h2><strong>Raccoon malware</strong></h2>

<p>The researchers from the cyber firm said that the stolen ChatGPT credentials were accessed due to the popular Raccoon malware.</p>

<p>Just like the basic malware, Raccoon steals users’ info from their computers after they download the software, which is often disguised as an app or file that the user actually wants.</p>

<p>Raccoon is known to be easily available and regarded as one of the dependable malware as it maintains a healthy subscriber base, making it a popular choice among hackers.</p>

<p>"Employees enter classified correspondences or use the bot to optimize proprietary code. Given that ChatGPT’s standard configuration retains all conversations, this could inadvertently offer a trove of sensitive intelligence to threat actors if they obtain account credentials."</p>

<p>Moreover, the hackers who have access to their ChatGPT accounts can also access their other accounts with the help of the malware if the users reuse the same password for multiple platforms.</p>

<p>In a historic move, the European Parliament voted in favour of placing regulations on the usage of artificial intelligence (AI) systems across the bloc of nations on Wednesday.</p>

<p>The voting has started the process of passing the Artificial Intelligence Act of the European Union, which will be the first of its kind ever-introduced globally.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The law has been drafted to protect fundamental civil rights and safeguard people from the threats they face to health and safety due to AI while fostering simultaneously innovation of the technology.&nbsp;<br />

During vote, the parliament adopted the AI Act with 499 votes in favour, 28 against and 93 abstentions. The regulation is far from becoming law, but it is likely to be one of the first formal rules for the technology globally.</p>

<h2><strong>How will the new law work?</strong></h2>

<p>The measures, which have been in discussion since 2021, but gained momentum after the emergence of popular AI chatbots like the ChatGPT, would classify the systems based on AI based on the four levels of risk, which range from minimal to unacceptable.</p>

<p>The law is aimed at protecting people from social scoring systems that can judge them based on their appearance or their behaviour, and applications which can engage in vulnerable people's subliminal manipulation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The officials are also considering the predictive policing tools, that use data to forecast potential perpetrators of crimes in future, as a no-go, while the ban on remote facial recognition and biometric identification in public has been widened by the lawmakers.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What will happen to ChatGPT?</strong></h2>

<p>The majority of systems, based on AI, which has already become a part of the everyday lives of people, including video games, spam filters or text generators such as ChatGTP, &nbsp;have been kept in the low- or no-risk category.</p>

<p>"We don't want mass surveillance, we don't want social scoring, we don't want predictive policing in the European Union, full stop. That's what China does, not us," said Dragos Tudorache, a Romanian member of the European Parliament who is co-leading its work on the AI Act.</p>

<h2><strong>How will the measures be enforced by the EU?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Companies found violating the laws will have to pay fines of up to €30 million ($33 million) or 6 per cent of their annual global revenue, which can go up to billions in the case of tech giants like Google and Microsoft.</p>

<p>The 27 member states of the EU will enforce the rules, which lawmakers believe will be seen as a constructive framework by the powerful AI developers within which they can further develop the technology.<br />

Generative AI developers will be required to submit their systems for review before releasing them commercially.</p>

<p>"We as a union are doing something that I think is truly historic, which is to bring about rules and guardrails for the evolution of a technology that has a lot of potential for good in our economies," lawmaker Tudorache said while speaking to DW.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"At the same time, we see more and more risks. What we're doing with this legislation is to try and curtail these risks, mitigate them and put very clear rules in place that will ensure transparency and trust," he added.</p>

<h2><strong>What will be the next steps?</strong></h2>

<p>The new AI laws of the EU still need final approval from national parliamentarians and member states, which is not likely to happen till 2025.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It's true that these laws will not come into effect by the elections next year, but we have other rules that are already in place. But if we craft this legislation right, if we articulate the obligations and the rights in these regulations the right way, they will stand the test of time. We are not regulating the technology itself, we are regulating the use of technology – and that transparency is the same and it's going to be the same now or in five years' time," said Tudorache.<br />

<h2><strong>What can we expect from the upcoming Black Mirror season?</strong></h2>

<p>Speaking to GQ, Brooker hinted at what we could expect from the upcoming <em>Black Mirror</em> episodes and said, “I sort of circled back to some classically <em>Black Mirror</em> stories as well. So it’s not like it’s a bed of roses this season. They’re certainly some of the bleakest stories we’ve ever done. It does feel like the dystopia is lapping onto the shores of the present moment; lots of people say it’s like we’re living in a Black Mirror episode, so there’s certainly a sense of looking in the rearview. We’re looking at an alternative past, though, so in a way I’m having my cake and eating it. We have eradicated lots of diseases and generally, lots of things are going well that we lose sight of but it’s just a bit terrifying if you think democracy is going to collapse. That and the climate breaking down.”</p>

He had revealed in a previous interview that he toyed around with ChatGPT but didn’t like the outcome, so he stopped. He said, “With ChatGPT when I first encountered it, I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s it, my job done’. But now having toyed with it a bit more, you can see the limitations. There’s a generic quality to the art that it pumps out. It’ll be undeniably perfect in five years, but at what point it’ll replace the human experience? I don’t know if that’ll ever come.”</p>

<p>He continued, “I am generally pro-technology. Probably we’re going to have to rely on it if we’re going to survive, so I wouldn’t say [<em>Black Mirror </em>episodes] necessarily warnings, so much as worries, if you know what I mean. They’re maybe worst-case scenarios.”</p>

<p>“Probably take-home essays are never going to be quite the same again,” said the ChatGPT founder while speaking at Tokyo’s Keio University. He also called AI a “new tool in education” and “sort of like a calculator for words".</p>

<p>He also spoke about how these AI tools, which we currently have access tom are “extremely primitive” when compared to the ones we are going to see in a couple of years. “The way we teach people is going to have to change and the way we evaluate students is going to have to change,” said the OpenAI CEO.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During an open dialogue with the students in Tokyo, the OpenAI CEO also said he is “quite optimistic” about the prospects for global coordination on AI. “I came to the trip...sceptical that it was going to be possible in the short term to get global cooperation to reduce existential risk but I am now wrapping up the trip feeling quite optimistic we can get it done,” said Altman.</p>

<p>The ChatGPT founder’s world tour comes weeks after he addressed a panel of US lawmakers, calling for regulation of the “increasingly powerful models” of AI and said it is “critical” to mitigate the risks the technology poses.&nbsp;</p>

The open dialogue in Tokyo also came months after the OpenAI CEO met Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and said he is considering opening an office in the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Artificial Intelligence is breaking new barriers by the day. Hundreds of worshippers at St. Paul's Church in Fürth, Bavaria, Germany recently attended a service, entirely conducted by AI with the sermon being presented by the AI chatbot ChatGPT.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An hour before the service even began, people formed a long queue outside the 19th-century, neo-Gothic building to witness what the AI could deliver.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The chatbot's sermon majorly focused on themes surrounding leaving one's past behind, living in the present, not being afraid of death and maintaining faith in Jesus Christ. Notably, four different AI avatars took turns to impart the sermons and lead the service.&nbsp;</p>

It was part of&nbsp;&nbsp;Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag - a biennial event, much popular in this part of the world that attracts tens of thousands of devout Christians. <p>“I conceived this service but actually I rather accompanied it, because I would say about 98% comes from the machine,” Simmerlein was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.</p>

<p>The scholar fed "Now is the time" - one of the slogans for this year's gathering to the chatbot and asked it to develop the sermon along these lines.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I told the artificial intelligence ‘We are at the church congress, you are a preacher… what would a church service look like?’” said&nbsp;Simmerlein who also&nbsp;asked for psalms to be included, as well as prayers and a blessing at the end.</p>

<p>“There was no heart and no soul,” said, 54-year-old Heiderose Schmidt who works in IT. “The avatars showed no emotions at all, had no body language and were talking so fast and monotonously that it was very hard for me to concentrate on what they said.”</p>

<p>Even&nbsp;Simmerlein conceded that technology lacked the personal touch which differentiates it from humans.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The pastor is in the congregation, she lives with them, she buries the people, she knows them from the beginning. Artificial intelligence cannot do that. It does not know the congregation."</p>

<p>Since ChatGPT made news headlines last year, there is a consensus among clergy that technology can write a passable competent sermon but it can't replicate the passion of actual preaching.&nbsp;</p>

<p>European Union and the United States on Wednesday said they expect a draft code of conduct on Artificial Intelligence (AI) might be released “within weeks”, adding that they are hopeful fellow democracies and like-minded nations will subscribe to it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The voluntary code “would be open to all like-minded countries,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said after having discussions with EU officials in Sweden.</p>

<p>“There’s almost always a gap when new technologies emerge,” Blinken said, adding that there was time “for governments and institutions to figure out how to legislate or regulate.”</p>

<p>European Commission Vice President and tech chief Margrethe Vestager said the draft could be drawn up within weeks. <p>A lawyer in New York is facing a court hearing after his firm used ChatGPT for a legal filing which cited many non-existent cases. According to a report by the New York Times on Saturday (May 27), Steven Schwartz, a lawyer with Levidow, Levidow &amp; Oberman, faces a sanctions hearing on June 8. Schwartz, who has practised law in New York for 30 years, said that he greatly regretted relying on ChatGPT and would never do so in future without absolute verification of its authenticity.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What is the case about?</strong></h2>

<p>According to the New York Times report, a man named Roberto Mata sued the airline Avianca, saying he was injured when a serving cart struck his knee during a flight to the Kennedy International Airport in New York. As per the lawsuit, Mata was a passenger on Aviance Flight 670 from El Salvador to New York on August 27, 2019, when an airline employee bonked him with the metal serving cart.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When Avianca asked a Manhattan federal judge to toss out the case, Mata's lawyers objected and submitted a 10-page brief in March that cited over half a dozen relevant court decisions. The brief cited Martinez v. Delta Air Lines, Zicherman v. Korean Air Lines, Varghese v. China Southern Airlines and a few other cases.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But here's the catch- Avianca's lawyers wrote to Judge Kevin Castel of the Southern District of New York, saying they were unable to find the cases that were cited in the brief. When it came to the Varghese v. China Southern Airlines case, the airline's lawyers said they were not able to locate this case by caption or citation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;“The undersigned has not been able to locate this quotation, nor anything like it in any case,” they added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The lawyers further pointed out that the quotation, which came from Varghese itself, cited Zicherman v. Korean Air Lines Co. Ltd., an opinion purportedly handed down by the US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in 2008. They said they could not find that&nbsp;either.</p>

<p>Following this, Judge Castel ordered Mata’s attorneys to provide copies of the opinions referred to in their brief.</p>

<p>The report said that Bart Banino, a lawyer for Avianca, said his firm, Condon &amp; Forsyth specialised in aviation law and that its lawyers could tell the cases in the 10-page brief were not real. Banino said that they had an inkling a chatbot might have been involved.</p>

When Avianca asked a Manhattan federal judge to toss out the case, Mata's lawyers objected and submitted a 10-page brief in March that cited over half a dozen relevant court decisions. The brief cited Martinez v. Delta Air Lines, Zicherman v. Korean Air Lines, Varghese v. China Southern Airlines and a few other cases. But here's the catch- Avianca's lawyers wrote to Judge Kevin Castel of the Southern District of New York, saying they were unable to find the cases that were cited in the brief. China Southern Airlines case, the airline's lawyers said they were not able to locate this case by caption or citation. “The undersigned has not been able to locate this quotation, nor anything like it in any case,” they added. The lawyers further pointed out that the quotation, which came from Varghese itself, cited Zicherman v. Korean Air Lines Co. Ltd., an opinion purportedly handed down by the US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in 2008. They said they could not find that either.
