<p>Though it is available across the world, the makers of ChatGPT haven’t made their AI chatbot accessible in the Asian country. But that hasn’t stopped the tech-savvy enthusiasts from using it.</p>

<p>According to a report by Wired, ChatGPT logins are selling like hotcakes on e-commerce platforms like Taobao—China’s biggest online site, where hundreds of thousands of merchants offer everything from iPhone cases to foreign driver’s licenses.</p>

<p>Till February, more than 600 online vendors were reportedly selling ChatGPT logins&nbsp;for prices ranging from 1-30 RMB ($0.17-$4.28). Over the months, demand has shot through the roof with some stores making thousands of sales.</p>

<p>However, the burgeoning popularity of ChatGPTs has also spawned many copycats. Tencent’s WeChat, for instance, reportedly has emerged the sole platform where knockoffs of the AI bot are being downloaded.</p>

<p>These apps are basically sub-applications on the platform like “ChatGPT Online” which offer users a handful of free questions before charging for time using a chatbot.</p>

<p>These intermediaries ask ChatGPT questions for users and then send the answers back.</p>

<p>However, many Chinese tech companies have clamped down on black market logins. According to the report, Taobao has banned keywords like OpenAI and ChatGPT whereas WeChat also restricts similar services.</p>

<p>Even though OpenAI hasn’t announced anything about launching ChatGPT in China, many big Chinese tech companies are trying to launch their own ChatGPT-like product.</p>

<p>On February 7, Baidu announced it would launch Ernie bot (“Wen Xin Yi Yan” in Chinese) for internal testing in March. The bot will be based on Ernie 3.0-Titan, a large language model that Baidu has been developing since 2019.</p>

ChatGPT encountered 100 questions. But for all its smarty-pants behaviour till now, it could correctly answer only 54.</p>

<p>In the year 2021, the cut-off to advance to the next round for general category students was 87.54. Since ChatGPT didn't hit the cut-off, we can technically say that ChatGPT failed the UPSC exam.</p>

<p>There's absolutely nothing wrong in failing UPSC of course. Simply the preparation makes the students excel in other career paths.</p>

<p>But with things a bit hazy with respect to the next chapter in the AI development, it is not known what ChatGPT will do now. Maybe we should ask it precisely this next time and implore it to ignore what 'Sharma ji&nbsp;ka beta' is doing.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Greg Isenberg, the CEO, tweeted about the event and said ChatGPT helped him recover a&nbsp;payment from a client totaling US$&nbsp;109,500 (about Rs 90 lakh).</p>

<p>“Imagine a multi-billion dollar client who refused to pay you for good work rendered. Most people would turn to lawyers. I turned to ChatGPT. Here's the story of how I recovered $109,500 without spending a dime on legal fees,” Isenberg wrote on Twitter.</p>

<p>In keeping with his account, he stated that his business handled some design work for a brand last year that was well-received. The customer continued requesting more work, and the business kept exceeding expectations. When it was time for payment, the brand, however, stopped communicating. The CEO said that they had never had a customer skip out on payments and that this had caused the morale of the entire workforce to suffer. Then it was his turn to intervene.</p>

<p>"Instead of sending another email that might fall on deaf ears or hiring an expensive lawyer to initiate debt collections, I had an idea. What if ChatGPT could draft a bit more of a scary email to draw attention? At the very least, I'd learn something. The cost of ChatGPT: USD 0. The cost of our lawyer to send this notice: USD 1,000. So, we asked ChatGPT to pretend to draft “a scary collection email” so we can recover the USD 109,500 owed to us," Isenberg added.</p>

<p>He then revealed the prompt he used and the email text that ChatGPT had created, adding that he had forwarded the same to the customer after making a few small adjustments. To his astonishment, the customer reacted to the correspondence quickly and stated, 'let's get you guys paid'.</p>

<p>The prompt used by the CEO was, “Pretend you work in the finance department and your job is to collect payments from clients. Draft a scary email that gets XYZ client to pay for USD 109,500 of services rendered but hasn't responded to 5 emails. Their invoices are 5 months overdue.”</p>

In nearly two decades, it has won multiple accolades, including the coveted Hugo Award.</p>

In the long Twitter thread, Neil Clarke, the editor of the magazine, stressed: "We aren't closing the magazine. Closing submissions means that we aren't considering stories from authors at this time. We will reopen, but have not set a date." The guidelines of the publication, he pointed out, clearly state that "we don't want "AI" written or assisted works. They don't care. A checkbox on a form won't stop them. They just lie."</p>

<p>The editor also insisted that a system that allowed only previously published authors to contribute could be implemented. "That would effectively ban new authors, which is not acceptable. They are an essential part of this ecosystem and our future," he further shared.</p>

<p>People indulging in side hustles trying to make easy money with ChatGPT, who are behind the trend, deserve "some of the disdain shown to AI developers", Clarke said.</p>

The quick email composed by AI on the woman's behalf expressed "frustration and disappointment" in the right proportion. <p>Meanwhile, Sunak was asked a less pointed question when the AI quizzed what was the most influential advice that the 10, Downing Street resident had received in his life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee was blasted in a school newspaper after administrators used ChatGPT to write an e-mail about the importance of community regarding the shooting at the Michigan State University (MSU) where a gunman killed three students and wounded five others. According to a report by The Vanderbilt Hustler on Friday (February 17), the Peabody Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) sent an e-mail on Thursday which said, "We must recognise that creating a safe and inclusive environment is an ongoing process that requires ongoing effort and commitment.”</p>

<p>“We must continue to engage in conversations about how we can do better, learn from our mistakes, and work together to build a stronger, more inclusive community,” the mail added. &nbsp;A line at the bottom of this five-paragraph email said it had been paraphrased using ChatGPT, which is an artificial intelligence (AI) text generator.</p>

<p>The body of this email mentioned “Peabody” once and did not use any other Vanderbilt-specific terms. It also referred to multiple recent shootings in Michigan, when only one incident occurred, the Vanderbilt Hustler report on Friday added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jackson Davis, an undergraduate at Peabody, said he was disappointed that the EDI Office allegedly used ChatGPT to write its response to the shooting. “They release milquetoast, mealymouthed statements that really say nothing whenever an issue arises on or off campus with real political and moral stakes,” Davis said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Amid the mounting criticism, Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Nicole Joseph sent a follow-up apology mail to the Peabody community on Friday. Joseph said that using ChatGPT to write the initial mail was poor judgement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“While we believe in the message of inclusivity expressed in the email, using ChatGPT to generate communications on behalf of our community in a time of sorrow and in response to a tragedy contradicts the values that characterise Peabody College, the apology mail read. The apology said, "As with all new technologies that affect higher education, this moment gives us all an opportunity to reflect on what we know and what we still must learn about AI."</p>

<p>The MSU gunman was identified as 43-year-old Anthony Dwayne McRae killed himself hours after committing the crime. McRae had no connection with the university, and authorities said that they were trying to determine whether mental illness played a role in the rampage, news agency Reuters reported on Thursday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The authorities also found two pages of notes on McRae that listed two public schools in New Jersey and the names of a warehouse where he worked, a church, and other places where he appears to have felt slighted.<br />

<p>According to a statement, Velocity's co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Abhiroop Medhekar said that ever since the launch of ChatGPT, the company's product teams had been brainstorming how it can be leveraged to benefit our founders. "Since Velocity customers already use Insights on a daily basis, we integrated ChatGPT with the same interface that they leverage for driving business decisions," Medhekar added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Citing multiple media reports, the IANS report on Monday said that ChatGPT has reached 100 million users within two months and has clocked more than 590 million visits.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mohit Mohapatra, CEO and Founder of Naturepro said that Velocity Insights has helped his brand monitor revenue and marketing spending. Mohapatra said that with ChatGPT integration, he has been able to leverage artificial intelligence as a personal assistant whenever he needs help with his business. "For example, I have been leveraging the integration for writing copy as well as collating answers to questions related to performance marketing on a daily basis," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Tuesday, a report by the Indian Express said that India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) was developing a WhatsApp-based chatbot which relies on information generated by ChatGPT to return an appropriate response to queries.</p>

<p>As farmers would not always want or would be able to type out their queries, questions can be put to the chatbot by using voice notes, the report said. It added that users can ask a question using voice notes and receive a voice-based response generated by ChatGPT.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the tech world seems to have been shaken up with the arrival of ChatGPT—a chatbot developed by OpenAI—Apple co-founder and tech wizard Steve Wozniak has expressed scepticism over the artificial intelligence’s capabilities.</p>

<p>During a recent discussion with CNBC host Andrew Ross Sorkin on February 8, Wozniak pointed out one of the key qualities that differentiate technology from humans.</p>

<p>He said that while "ChatGPT is kind of impressive" and "useful to humans," it has the potential to make some serious errors.</p>

<p>"I spent an entire lifetime really studying the brain, the computer. The computer will never equal the brain. I was very negative at first on any human-made technology being equivalent to nature. So it'll never be equal," Wozniak said.</p>

<p>"When a machine could beat a human at chess, we said the same sort of things," Wozniak said. "Oh my gosh, it's so smart, you know, but it's just following different methods than a brain follows.</p>

Hailed as the first global summit on responsible AI in the military domain, 'REAIM 2023' is being held in The Hague - often termed as "the international city of peace and justice" - &nbsp;and the Republic of Korea is the co-host, an official statement highlighted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The conference is set to see participation from 50 nations, including the United States, and China, as per the news agency Reuters. Russia, however, has not been invited due to the Ukraine war, which completes a year on February 24. Talking points at the session would be governance frameworks, responsible deployment and myth-busting. The Ukraine conflict is also expected to come up during the discussions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the biggest challenges associated with the deployment of AI in war is the lack of human control and the possibility of escalation of violence. An agreement from the participating delegations is likely. &nbsp;"AI is developing at a rapid pace, including in the military domain," Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra said last year at the United Nations General Assembly in New York when he made the announcement about the conference. "This new technology is set to become one of the greatest challenges we will face in the area of international security and arms control. If we don’t make international agreements now about frameworks for the responsible development, deployment and use of AI, we will regret it later," he stressed. <p>India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday announced that Artificial Intelligence-based ChatGPT's use by students will be prohibited in Class 10 and 12 board exams which are set to begin on Wednesday.</p>

<p>"Mobile, ChatGPT and other electronic items will not be allowed in examination hall," as per the instructions released by the CBSE ahead of the exams.</p>

<p>The board officials emphasised that any use of ChatGPT will be considered as using unfair means by students to clear board exams with flying numbers.</p>

<p>Large Language Models like OpenAi's GPT-3 powering ChatGPT and Google's LaMDA powering Bard are exceptionally good at learning and executing tasks on the fly.</p>

<p>Meaning, unlike the linear process of training an AI machine by feeding it copious amounts of data which is a laborious and time-consuming process, the new breed of AI can dig deeper into its neural schema and arrive at outputs which it hasn't been specifically trained to perform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This apparent phenomenon is called 'in-context' learning and researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and Google in a recent study have set upon to decode how AI tools seemingly work between the input and output layers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Learning is entangled with [existing] knowledge. We show that it is possible for these models to learn from examples on the fly without any parameter update we apply to the model," Ekin Akyürek, the lead author of the study was quoted as saying by Motherboard.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Researchers said that the LLM is building upon its previous knowledge, just the way humans do. In fact, the models build smaller models inside themselves to achieve new tasks, posited the scientists.&nbsp;</p>

The sensational bot ChatGPT has now caught the attention of India's National Board of Education. A report suggests that the bot driven by Artificial Intelligence or AI has been added to the list of unfair means for the exams conducted by the Central Board for Secondary Education.

<p>Reports say that people in China are using&nbsp;virtual private networks and foreign phone numbers to access the artificial intelligence-powered (AI) chatbot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There is huge excitement around ChatGPT. Unlike the metaverse which faces huge difficulty in finding real-life application, ChatGPT has suddenly helped us achieve human-computer interaction," said Ding Daoshi, director of Beijing-based internet consultancy Sootoo was quoted as saying by Reuters.</p>

<p>"The changes it will bring about are more immediate, more direct and way quicker."</p>

<p>Alphabet Inc’s Google has decided to step in with its own chatbot named 'Bard' after its rival Microsoft-backed OpenAI and its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, garnered significant attention since its launch back in November. However, Bard is still in the testing phase now but the tech giant has since confirmed that it will start public testing soon. The announcement was made in a blog post by Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who also spoke about how&nbsp;AI-based features will also be integrated into Google search as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What is Bard?</strong></p>

<p>Based on Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Application or LaMDA, it is soon going to be the tech giant’s AI chatbot. Pichai, in the blog post, has described Bard as an “experimental conversational AI service,” which will be opened “to trusted testers ahead of making it more widely available to the public in the coming weeks.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added, “Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models. It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses.” However, you might not be able to sign up for it just yet as it is not publicly available.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the examples given in the announcement blog post of what Bard could do, Pichai wrote, that the AI chatbot “can be an outlet for creativity, and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills.”</p>

<p>Furthermore, Google has also said that it is producing a “lightweight model version of LaMDA” which would require “significantly less computing power, enabling us to scale to more users, allowing for more feedback.”&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Is it different from ChatGPT?</strong></p>

<p>Fundamentally, no, since both allow users to ask questions, request something or give a prompt based on which the AI would generate a human-like response. Additionally, both Microsoft and Google plan on integrating this as a part of their search engines, Bing and Google search, respectively, which as per reports account for a big chunk of their revenue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While it is known that ChatGPT’s knowledge is limited to the events till 2021, Google has remained vague about the knowledge Bard would possess, however, reports suggest that since the latter will draw information from the internet it will have more access to data than the former. Notably, Bard will be built on Transformer technology which is at the core of ChatGPT but the technology was pioneered by Google and made open-source in 2017.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>How did Bard lead a dip in Google’s shares?</strong></p>

<p>On Wednesday (February 8), shares of Google’s parent company plunged by at least eight per cent and it lost more than $100 billion in market value. This comes after the Bard chatbot showed an inaccurate answer. First pointed out by Reuters, there was an error in the clip posted by Google which introduced Bard, on Monday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The inaccuracy was also pointed out right before the tech giant’s AI event in Paris, France where more details about the chatbot were expected. In the advertisement in question, Bard was given a prompt which asked, “What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) can I tell my 9-year-old about?”&nbsp;</p>

<p>In turn, the chatbot responded with a number of answers, one of which included that JWST was used to take the very first pictures of “exoplanets” or the planets outside Earth’s solar system. However, this is inaccurate as the first pictures of exoplanets were taken by European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) in 2004, said Reuters citing NASA confirmation.&nbsp;</p>

We’ll combine external feedback with our own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and groundedness in real-world information.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, the error was found hours before the tech giant’s launch of the AI chatbot in Paris where the Senior Vice President of Google, Prabhakar Raghavan, addressing the audience said that Bard would make interaction with information “entirely” different and new.&nbsp;</p>

However, Bard is still in the testing phase now but the tech giant has since confirmed that it will start public testing soon. The announcement was made in a blog post by Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who also spoke about how AI-based features will also be integrated into Google search as well. What is Bard? Based on Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Application or LaMDA, it is soon going to be the tech giant’s AI chatbot. Pichai, in the blog post, has described Bard as an “experimental conversational AI service,” which will be opened “to trusted testers ahead of making it more widely available to the public in the coming weeks.” It added, “Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models. It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses.” However, you might not be able to sign up for it just yet as it is not publicly available. Fundamentally, no, since both allow users to ask questions, request something or give a prompt based on which the AI would generate a human-like response. Additionally, both Microsoft and Google plan on integrating this as a part of their search engines, Bing and Google search, respectively, which as per reports account for a big chunk of their revenue. Notably, Bard will be built on Transformer technology which is at the core of ChatGPT but the technology was pioneered by Google and made open-source in 2017. How did Bard lead a dip in Google’s shares? On Wednesday (February 8), shares of Google’s parent company plunged by at least eight per cent and it lost more than $100 billion in market value. This comes after the Bard chatbot showed an inaccurate answer. First pointed out by Reuters, there was an error in the clip posted by Google which introduced Bard, on Monday. In the advertisement in question, Bard was given a prompt which asked, “What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) can I tell my 9-year-old about?” In turn, the chatbot responded with a number of answers, one of which included that JWST was used to take the very first pictures of “exoplanets” or the planets outside Earth’s solar system. However, this is inaccurate as the first pictures of exoplanets were taken by European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) in 2004, said Reuters citing NASA confirmation. We’ll combine external feedback with our own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and groundedness in real-world information.” Notably, the error was found hours before the tech giant’s launch of the AI chatbot in Paris where the Senior Vice President of Google, Prabhakar Raghavan, addressing the audience said that Bard would make interaction with information “entirely” different and new.
