Deepika Padukone stepped out in Mumbai streets as 'Chhapaak's Malti, see public's reaction

Only yesterday, Deepika Padukone came to stand with the JNU students while she was in New Delhi to promote her upcoming Hindi film ‘Chhapaak’ after they were beaten up in their university. The videos and pictures of JNU Attack went viral after the unfortunate incident with many stars coming out to condemn the act.

After Deepika became one of the first and few Bollywood A-listers to condemn violence, Ajay Devgn joined sharing the same sentiment. With both Ajay Devgn and Deepika Padukone’s films clashing this Friday at the box office, it was a surprise move by the actors to come out in the open and condemn the attack on JNU students.

Ajay, while promoting the film said that he has been watching the news and it is very conflicting. Till now, nothing is clear about who has done what. He said that till the time things are not clear, he doesn’t know how to comment. He did, however, say that what is happening in the country is sad.

He said, “Violence is not a solution and it’s just harming our country.”

Ajay was then asked whether staying silent on such matters was being complicit, he said that when actors say something, it is taken seriously either in a good way or bad way. If people think that it is complicit, then it is stupid. He said that one should be aware and well informed before speaking on the issue and added, “Actors cannot add fuel to fire.”

The attack on JNU students has been one of the most disheartening and saddening news as masked goons entered the campus and beat students black and blue with some even having to get admitted in hospitals for treatment.

Kangana Ranaut came out strong in criticising the violence and destruction of public property amid the ongoing anti-CAA protest across India.

While speaking at the trailer launch event of her new film 'Panga' in Mumbai on Monday, the actress Kangana Ranaut said that indulging in violence is not a very reasonable thing to do, in a democracy like India.

"What gives you the right to burn buses, trains and create ruckus in the country? A bus costs around Rs 70-80 lakh, and that is not a small amount. Have you seen the condition of people in our country? People in this country are dying of hunger and malnutrition. It is not very reasonable for people to indulge in violence," said Kangana.

"I also feel that in the name of democracy -- this is my very personal opinion -- we`re still hooked to the pre-Independence era, where our country was under seige or bondage, and people had captured us by force or the gun. Going on strikes, shutting down the country or not paying taxes against those people was considered cool. But in today`s democracy, your leader is someone from among you. He is not from Japan or China or someplace else," said Kangana Ranaut at the event.

The event also has the film`s director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, co-actor Jassi Gill and composers Shankar Mahadevan and Loy Mendonsa in attendance.

Seeking support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said: "Our leader came from a very small place and with a lot of difficulties made something of himself with hard work, and we have won on his merits and he has written everything in his manifesto and then won, and now when he is fulfilling everything he promised, that`s democracy, is it not? So this doesn`t happen, you cannot be a sore loser."

'Panga' is a sports drama that also features Richa Chadha, Neena Gupta and Pankaj Tripathi. The story depicts the struggle of a Kabaddi player.

Talking about title 'Panga' (which means, to mess around with something), and her experience of messing around with life, Kangana said, "I think every time in my life I took `panga`, I achieved growth. When I was 15 years old, I ended up taking `panga` with my father and that was the most stupid thing to do. It led to a lot of problems in life. But essentially if I hadn`t gone ahead and taken that `panga`, I wouldn`t have been here, where I am now. So every `panga` has given a new landmark in my life. I wouldn`t exchange where I am today for anything."

'Panga' is set to theatrically release on January 24, for the Republic Day weekend.

Kangana Ranaut on CAA protests: Not reasonable for people to indulge in violence

A mega scale musical event took place in Saudi Arabia as high profile celebrities from all around the world including fashionistas and influencers came to show their support. One such name that strikes us is Indian actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja who shared several snaps of self from the event.

While the fest was in news for the glamour, it also made buzz because many people on social media criticised it for being a tool for “whitewashing” the nation’s image, considering that they still impose draconian laws and the society is still at large against feminism. The nation called it an “extremist idea” among other things.

An Instagram page Diet Prada took a dig at Sonam Kapoor because she became a part of the event, which was meant to boost tourism to the nation even though it indulges in a lot of human rights abuses. The issue snowballed and became one of the most talked-about when an indirect reference became a tug of war (of words) between Sonam and the page.

Diet Prada had shared a collage of images of celebrity influencers, calling them out for participating. The post read, “What’s worse than an all-white @revolve influencer trip? Cashing big fat checks in exchange for #content creation (aka propaganda) to rehabilitate the image of Saudi Arabia, a country said to be causing “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis”, according to the United Nations. According to anonymous sources, six-figure sums were offered for attendance and geo-tagged posts.” View this post on Instagram What’s worse than an all white @revolve influencer trip? According to anonymous sources, six-figure sums were offered for attendance and geo-tagged posts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Following the government’s pre-meditated murder of journalist Jamal Kashoggi in October 2018 , the arrest of women’s rights activist Loujain al-Hathloul in May 2018, the outing of a gay Saudi journalist and his partner who began receiving death threats from their families (homosexuality is a crime in Saudi Arabia and punishable by death), and countless other human rights abuses, a bevy of supermodels, influencers, celebrities, and musicians convened in Riyadh for the inaugural @mdlbeast . According to @hypebeast , the electronic music festival is “one of the most significant musical events the region has ever seen”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Saudi Arabia has been spending billions to change its image in the west, but this is sure to be the most expensive campaign yet. In a series of Instagram stories posted by transgender model @teddy_quinlivan , it was revealed that fellow model @emrata had turned down the trip, evidently aware of the country’s human rights crisis. “It is very important to me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community, freedom of expression and the right to a free press. I hope coming forward on this brings more attention to the injustices happening there”, said Ratajkowski in a statement to Diet Prada. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Unfortunately, not all shared the same sentiments. There are simply too many attendees to name. Dieters, feel free to tag any attendees you know of... just in case they haven’t been reading the news. • #propoganda #jamalkashoggi #humanrights #humanrightsabuse #lgbtq #lgbtqrights #freespeech #journalism #independent #womensrights #mdlbeast #edm #electronicmusic #supermodel #influencer #content #riyadh #emrata #emilyratajkowski #teddyquinlivan #model #celebrity #dj #electronicmusic #musicfestival #wtf #smh #government #corruption #dietprada A post shared by Diet Prada ™ (@diet_prada) on Dec 21, 2019 at 2:04pm PST × Sonam Kapoor shared the Instagram story and addressed to the criticism saying, “Let's agree to disagree, let's appreciate that the whole world is a shithole right now and any positive step forward is something that I want to celebrate. I was treated with immense respect and love as a Hindu brown female actor.” Diet Prada then took on Sonam and shared snaps of other women who experienced sexual harassment at the same electronic music festival.
Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Raazi’ could have gotten a National Award thinks author Harinder Sikka, on whose book the film is based.

Harinder Sikka’s book titled ‘Calling Sehmat’ was reimagined for the big screen by Meghna Gulzar who gave us a beautiful film ‘Raazi’ that highlighted the story of a Kashmiri girl Sehmat who crossed borders from India to Pakistan to spy for the nation. It was a real-life incident during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

Harinder pointed out that he was not happy about the omission of ‘Tricolour scene’ in the film that found its place in the book. He said, "In the book, the story ends with Sehmat saluting the Tricolour. If the film had the same ending, the film would have won the National Award. I told the director that you have stopped the film from getting a National Award by cutting the Tricolour scene in the film.”

“Though this was done by the wishes of the filmmakers, but I still have resentment over it,” he added.

Talking about the book, Harinder said, "I was a person who had never written a book, and my first book 'Calling Sehmat' sold around five lakh copies. Sehmat taught me how to live. We very easily paint all Kashmiri Muslims with the same brush, saying that Kashmiris are terrorists. We have to understand that no mother wants her son to carry a stone in his hand. Terrorism has been being funded there for so many years but there have also been Kashmiris like Sehmat who gave up their entire families for the country. Much has changed since the abrogation of Article 370. My next book is 'Section 370', and Sehmat is the inspiration again."
