Gaza hospital strike 'done by other team', says Biden tells Netanyahu during Israel trip

The Palestinian envoy claimed that Israeli forces were behind the strike and said that they had proof, a deleted X (formerly Twitter) post made by Israel.

Hitting out at the Israeli PM, Mansour said, "He is a liar."&nbsp;

The diplomat claimed that they have a copy of a now-deleted post made by Israel in which the nation allegedly admitted that they hit a Hamas base in the area.

Their intention is to evacuate or hospitals will be hit and they are responsible for that crime and they cannot fabricate stories to deal with it."

As per news agency ANI, Mansour in his statement also demanded for immediate ceasefire.

"We as an Arab Group demand immediately a ceasefire because the continuation of the war, it means killing more Palestinians every moment."

Gaza hospital attack: Palestinian envoy calls Netanyahu a liar, claims to have proof of Israel involvement

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday (Oct 15) vowed to crush Hamas in Gaza, as the military prepares for all-round ground operations to weed out the terrorist group and take control of the region.

The prime minister’s remarks came during the first cabinet meeting of the united government that was formed recently in the wake of the assault unleashed by Hamas.

The meeting was held in military headquarters in Tel Aviv which began with ministers standing for a moment's silence in memory of the 1,300 Israelis killed in the surprise October 7 onslaught, a video released by Netanyahu's office showed.

Welcoming former opposition lawmaker Benny Gantz, who joined the government along with several members of his party last week, Netanyahu said all ministers were "working around the clock, with a united front".

"Hamas thought we would be demolished. It is we who will demolish Hamas," Netanyahu said, adding that the show of unity "sends a clear message to the nation, the enemy and the world", reported Reuters news agency.

<h2>Casualties keep mounting&nbsp;</h2>

Gaza too recorded one of its worst casualties with more than 2,300 people killed in Israel's retaliatory strikes so far, a quarter of them children, and nearly 10,000 wounded.

Several local media reports have said that hospitals in Gaza are running short of supplies and struggling to cope with the flow of injured.

The Israeli military had on Sunday given three hours for Gaza citizens to move to the southern side immediately as it prepared to invade the region.

"Residents of Gaza City, I call upon you again: Hamas is trying to prevent your evacuation. We will enable it southward. Leave Gaza City and all the surrounding areas for the sake of your personal security," reiterated chief Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari on Sunday.

<h2>Hezbollah launches attack </h2>

On Sunday, Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters&nbsp;launched a missile&nbsp;at an Israeli border village, killing one person and wounding three others. The Israeli military said it was striking in Lebanon in retaliation.

This perspective drew the support of 28 per cent of coalition voters, according to the poll released by the Dialog Centre.&nbsp;

The polls revealed that four out of five Jewish Israelis have been blaming Netanyahu and the government for the Operation Al-Aqsa Flood carried out by Hamas against Israel.

"An overwhelming majority of 86% of respondents, including 79% of coalition supporters, said the surprise attack from Gaza is a failure of the country's leadership, while a staggering 92% said the war is causing anxiety," it stated.&nbsp;

"Furthermore, almost all of the respondents (94%) believe the government has responsibility for the lack of security preparedness that led to the assault on the South, with over 75% saying the government holds most of the responsibility," as per the report.

Many Israelis blame govt for Hamas attack, believe Netanyahu must resign: Poll

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during a solidarity visit to Tel Aviv on Thursday (Oct 12), said that his country will "always" back Israel. He is the most senior US official to visit Israel since a Hamas terror attack on Saturday (Oct 7) that killed nearly 1,300 mostly civilian Israelis led to a sudden war between the two sides. 
 
Blinken, however, added that the Palestinians also have "legitimate aspirations" which do not get represented by Hamas.

"You may be strong enough on your own to defend yourself. But as long as America exists, you will never, ever have to. We will always be there by your side" said Blinken, during his meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. &nbsp;

Blinken's trip came even as Israel's Army continued pounding Hamas after their brutal attack over the weekend. Blinken further confirmed the new death toll for Americans in that attack, stating that at least 25 US citizens were among those killed.&nbsp;

Earlier, US President Joe Biden extended his unwavering support towards Israel and did not appeal for restraint against Hamas

However, Blinken emphasised the need for a peace settlement between the two - an idea that has been resisted by right-wing Netanyahu for long.&nbsp;

"Anyone who wants peace and justice must condemn Hamas' reign of terror. We know Hamas doesn't represent the Palestinian people, or their legitimate aspirations to live with equal measures of security, freedom, justice opportunity and dignity," Blinken stated.&nbsp;

Talking about his family background, Blinken, who is Jewish, remembered how his grandfather had to flee from anti-Semitic pogroms in Russia and that his stepfather was able to survive Nazi concentration camps.

"I also come before you as a husband and father of young children. It's impossible for me to look at the photos of families killed, such as the mother, father and three small children murdered as they sheltered in their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz, and not think of my own children," he added.&nbsp;

Blinken further promised that the Congress and the Biden administration would work together to meet Israel's military requests.

"As Israel's defence needs evolve, we will work with Congress to make sure that they're met," he stated.&nbsp;

Speaking in a press conference with Blinken, Netanyahu voiced appreciation for the support extended by the US and stated that Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, needs to be treated like the Islamic State group.

"Just as ISIS was crushed, so too will Hamas be crushed. And Hamas should be treated exactly the way ISIS was treated," Netanyahu stated.&nbsp;

US will always 'back' Israel, says Secretary of State Blinken to PM Netanyahu on solidarity visit

A coalition of ruling Israeli parties led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to form an emergency government in alliance with the opposition leaders in the wake of the Hamas terror attack.

The announcement was made on Tuesday (Oct 10) by Netanyahu’s Likud Party.

Among the opposition leaders who have agreed in principle to join the unit government are former prime minister Yair Lapid and former defence minister Benny Gantz.

"An emergency unity government now!" Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who represents a hard right party close to the West Bank Jewish settler movement, posted on social media.

A spokesperson for Gantz's National Unity party said she was optimistic there would be "good news" but did not elaborate on the terms, Reuters news agency reported.

<h2>Narrow and professional govt</h2>

Reuters quoting a source close to Lapid Party reported that the role of the emergency government would be "narrow and professional."

The development comes days after opposition leader Lapid in a statement on Saturday, just hours after the Hamas attack, said that he informed PM Netanyahu about his willingness to establish “a professional, limited emergency government, which will manage the difficult, complex and protracted campaign before us."

The agreement by political parties that are normally deeply hostile to one another underlines the scale of the crisis that has unfolded following the thousands of killings by Hamas gunmen over the weekend and the capture of more than 100 others.

<h2>Israel identifies hostages </h2>

According to reports, Israel has identified most of the hostages abducted by Hamas and has started informing their families.

Around 100 families were notified on Tuesday, with the officers from the Israel Defence Forces merely confirming what they already knew from recognising relatives&nbsp;in harrowing footage of people. The videos were filmed by Hamas and shared on social media and through WhatsApp groups, the Times of Israel newspaper reported citing Israeli Army Radio.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra expressed his support to Israel during a call with his counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, who had a discussion with the Indian leader on the Hamas terror attack and subsequent conflict.

'Change the Middle East': Israel PM's remarks signal future of Israel-Hamas war

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Friday (September 22), told the United Nations that his country was on the "cusp" of normalising ties with Saudi Arabia.

He further said that Palestinians should not get to "veto" the move.

While addressing the General Assembly in New York, Netanyahu said that the agreements which were made in the year 2020, to forge formal ties with three other Arab states had already "heralded the dawn of a new age of peace."

"But I believe that we are at the cusp of an even more dramatic breakthrough -- a historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia."

"Such a peace will go a long way to ending the Arab-Israeli conflict. It will encourage other Arab states to normalise their relations with Israel," he said.

Netanyahu strongly rebuffed the assertion by Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, during his UN speech on Thursday, that peace could not be established between the Middle East and Israel without a Palestinian state.

“Obviously, I’m against anti-Semitism.&nbsp;I’m anti-really anything that is, you know, that promotes hate and conflict. And I’m in favour of that which helps society and takes us to a better future for humanity collectively.”

Notaby, it was in July that the Israeli parliament, the Knesset passed a key clause of the judicial reform bill that neutered the top court.&nbsp;

Called the “reasonableness bill”, it seeks to strip the top court of the power to declare government decisions unreasonable.

The reasonableness bill is just one part of a broader package of reforms to Israel's judicial system by the right-wing coalition. Other proposals put forth by the government include giving politicians more power over the appointment of judges.&nbsp;

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis took to the streets of Tel Aviv on Saturday in the latest demonstration against the hard-right government's controversial judicial reform plans that opponents see as a threat to democracy.

Since the government revealed the reform package in the month of January, thousands of Israelis joined weekly protests in what has turned out to be the biggest demonstration movement in the history of Israel.

While protests have been staged in many cities including Jerusalem, the epicentre has been the commercial hub of Tel Aviv, where demonstrators have taken to the streets and marched every Saturday against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

"Democracy, democracy," protesters chanted as they marched on Saturday. "We won't give up until it gets better."

"Despite months of protests, things are not going the way we wanted as one important part of the judiciary overhaul has been passed a few weeks ago," protester Ben Peleg, 47, told AFP.&nbsp;

"But if we continue to apply pressure on the streets, there is a possibility that we can still stop these changes."&nbsp;

Last month, the Israeli parliament voted to limit the so-called "reasonableness" law.

The new legislation constrains judicial review by Israel's top court of some government decisions, and critics fear it could pave the way to a more authoritarian government.&nbsp;

Israel's ally United States has termed parliament's vote as "unfortunate" and repeatedly raised concern about the political turmoil.

Netanyahu has repeatedly reinstated that the move is a "necessary democratic step," highlighting the need to empower the elected government and align policies with the majority of citizens.

"We passed the amendment on reasonability so that the elected government can carry out policy in line with the decision of the majority of the citizens of the country," he said earlier in a televised address.

However, opponents argue that the judicial revamp could pave the way for an authoritarian government by weakening checks and balances on the Israeli executive.

Critics, including the US, expressed concern over the potential implications of the judicial reform package. They stressed the importance of enduring changes in democracy and having a broad consensus.

The bill aims to limit the Supreme Court's powers to strike down government decisions deemed "unreasonable" by the judges. President Isaac Herzog attempted to mediate a compromise between the government and the opposition, but the efforts ultimately failed, leading to an escalating political crisis.

Days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed through new legislation that curbs judicial review by the country's apex court of some government decisions, protesters continue to ramp up the pressure. On Saturday night, tens of thousands of flag-waving Israelis took to the streets and renewed their protests against the unpopular reforms.&nbsp;

From northern Galilee to the avenues crisscrossing the financial hub of Tel Aviv, protesters converged, beating drums and blaring horns, according to a Reuters report.&nbsp;

"We all don't see any future if this will keep on going.&nbsp;We are not united. We lost our unity,"&nbsp;Yariv Shavit, 53, an engineer in Israel's high-tech sector, protesting on the street was quoted as saying.&nbsp;

On Monday (July 24), Netanyahu's government passed the first part of a judicial overhaul that has been envisioned for long.&nbsp;Called the “reasonableness bill”, it seeks to strip the top court of the power to declare government decisions unreasonable.

The reasonableness bill is just one part of a broader package of reforms targeted at Israel's judicial system by the right-wing coalition.

However, the protests which are in their 30th week, have swelled with more and more common Israelis joining the movement, thereby opening up a deep social divide in the country.&nbsp;

“Half of my company was blown up in Lebanon. I have given many years of my life defending this country,”&nbsp;said Allon, one of the leaders of a pressure group representing 60,000 Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reservists.&nbsp;

“That’s why we are so angry. The government is breaking a very simple contract we have – to protect a Jewish and democratic Israel," he added.&nbsp;

However, the controversial reforms by Netanyahu threaten to undo the 'apolitical melting pot' of IDF, experts argue.&nbsp;

Notably, this is not the first instance when reservists from critically important units, such as pilots, have threatened to refuse service. In the past, the same has&nbsp;happened&nbsp;over issues such as the Second&nbsp;Lebanon War and the&nbsp;disengagement from the Gaza Strip. However, the country has never seen civil disobedience on this level before.

There are approximately&nbsp;465,000 reservists in the country who play a pivotal part, even during peacetime when they can be called up for as many as 60 days a year to serve the army.&nbsp;
