The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is focused on hosting the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in India. However, the board is reportedly not ruling out the possibility of shifting the tournament overseas once again amidst the rising cases of COVID-19 across the country.

While the entire season was played in the UAE in 2020, IPL 2021 was divided into two phases with the second phase taking place overseas after a COVID-19 outbreak led to the postponement of the first phase of the tournament which was held in India.

As per a report in India Today, a source in the know-how of things has revealed that the BCCI is exploring all options, including hosting IPL 2022 overseas. The source further added that the Indian cricket board's current priority is to host the upcoming IPL mega player auction ahead of the start of the new season.

"We are exploring all options which include overseas IPL as well. But our focus is to host IPL in India for sure. As of now our priority is auction, we will soon take a call," the source was quoted as saying by India Today.

India has been recording a huge spike in COVID-19 cases on a daily basis with the numbers going up each passing day. The source revealed that the BCCI is monitoring the situation closely and a decision on te venue of IPL 2022 will be taken later. The BCCI has already postponed a number of upcoming domestic tournaments in the country, including the Ranji Trophy.

Shah said that BCCI didn't want to compromise on the health of its players, support staff and match officials which is the reason that for the second year in a row that the red ball competition in all probability will not be held.

"The BCCI will continue to assess the situation and take a call on the start of the tournaments accordingly," Shah added.

The BCCI had formed six separate bio-bubbles in six different cities with multiple grounds -- Ahmedabad, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata.

In fact, Mumbai team had arrived in Kolkata and then their out of favour India all-rounder Shivam Dube tested positive and had to be isolated.

CAB secretary Avishek Dalmiya had been admitted to a city nursing home as a precautionary measure after testing positive.

The situation is grim across all the major cities with Delhi recording 5481 cases on Tuesday while Mumbai had 10,860 new cases with hundreds of them being affected by new Omicron variant.

The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sourav&nbsp;Ganguly&nbsp;was discharged from the hospital on Friday (December 31) four days after being admitted with coronavirus (COVID-19).&nbsp;

Now, an India-based news agency PTI reported that the former Indian cricketer had tested positive for the delta plus variant of the deadly Covid.

Citing a hospital official, the report revealed that the infection was not severe and could be managed in home isolation.&nbsp;

"Ganguly's samples tested positive for the Delta plus variant. We are treating him for that," the official said as quoted by PTI. &nbsp;

Previously, it was known that the 49-year-old was admitted to Kolkata's Woodlands Multispeciality hospital on Monday. He was tested positive for the virus and had a mild fever.&nbsp;

Citing a doctor, the AFP report stated that the ex-cricketer had expressed his desire to go home after he tested negative for the Omicron variant.

The doctor said that Ganguly will remain in home isolation for the next fortnight under doctors' supervision.&nbsp;

His brother Snehasish told AFP that Ganguly received an "antibody cocktail therapy" as part of his treatment. "Sourav is resting at home," he said.&nbsp;

Kohli had contradicted Ganguly's statement during his explosive press conference prior to leaving for the Test series against South Africa, saying he had no such communication with the Board's president and that he was informed about his removal as ODI skipper one and a half hour before the selection meeting for the SA series.

However, Sharma on Friday said, "Everyone from selectors to (BCCI) office bearers, convenor of selection meeting and all present told Kohli to wait on T20 captaincy till World Cup got over."
