It is to be noted that Shakib was a Member of Parliament (MP) in Bangladesh, representing the ousted Hasina government's party.

BCB chief Faruque Ahmed, meanwhile, has said that a decision on the same will be taken after the first Test against Pakistan, which ended on Sunday (Aug 25).

"Let me say about Shakib. A case has been lodged. We are yet to get any legal notice. FIR (first information letter) was given in the case and later there will be an investigation and following that, the case will move in one direction or the other," Faruque told reporters following the meeting with BCB directors.

"Look, the FIR is just the first information letter and they are yet to claim any charge as far as I know, so before that, it is difficult to take a decision. The relationship between BCB and Shakib Al Hasan is like a player and an employer according to the contract. After tomorrow, we can think exactly after getting the legal notice and based on that. I cannot withdraw him from the middle of the Test match," he said.

"The second Test match is from August 30, so there is a gap between the games. During this period, we can think about what can be done in this regard," he added.

Meanwhile, the uncertainty hovering over hosting the T20 World Cup began when the country’s cricket board was going through a crisis. BCB’s president, Nazmul Hassan, and the former sports minister have gone missing since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, while several directors, who have direct or indirect political connections, are also out of reach.

Meanwhile, given the situation, Mahmud said he had asked the BCB directors to act quickly and resolve this issue within the ICC’s legal framework.&nbsp;

"The BCB president is missing. Of course, for a federation to function, all of its organs need to work. The president holds an important responsibility, and he is absent. The BCB is an autonomous federation, and we cannot give them any decision.

"We have suggested to the BCB directors to look at how to resolve the issue within the ICC's legal framework. They will report to us later on whether to appoint someone for an interim period. We will continue the process in this regard.

"We want to make the required changes, but at the same time, we need to follow a process. We don't want to change the person; rather, we want to change the system so that whoever comes in by following that system, corruption cannot come in, and we want to take steps so that we can make a permanent solution,” Mahmud added.

After months of discussions and observations following the 2023 World Cup debacle, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named Najmul Hossain Shanto as the new captain in all three formats. Following last year’s 10-team tournament in India, after which Shakib decided to quit ODI captaincy, he vowed to lead the team in the T20 World Cup later in June this year in the West Indies and the USA. As per his statement in the lead-up to the 2023 World Cup, Shakib decided against continuing leading in the longer formats, including Tests; however, the BCB reconsidered his name for the ODI captaincy during this process but overlooked Shakib after the veteran informed them of his eye condition.

With BCB removing Shakib from the post, Shanto will take over the captain’s hat and lead the Tigers in the marquee event.

I am just going to tell someone that you can do whatever you want. Is the team first or the individual?" Shakib told the Dhaka-based TV channel T-Sports in an interview&nbsp;aired on Wednesday evening.

"Someone like Rohit Sharma built his career from No. 7 to opener, scored 10,000-plus runs. If he sometimes bats at No 3 or 4, would it be a big problem? It is totally childish. Shakib went on to add that he did not wish to carry a half-fit player in a marquee event like the ODI World Cup. He claimed that anyone playing without being 100% fit is cheating the team.

Though Tamim admits to feeling discomfort in his troubled back despite returning to the side for the New Zealand series (having played only one ODI – 2nd game), the left-handed batter revealed following a closed-door discussion with one of the top BCB officials that things fell apart between them.

Tamim said the official informed him that they were thinking of taking him to the World Cup (even knowing about his fitness) and asked him to play while managing his injury and workload. Tamim added the official said should he get picked in the first place, the Bangladesh batter should either sit out of the opener against Afghanistan or bat in the middle order, something he has never done on the international stage.

"A top-level official of the board who is involved with our cricket called me and told me that you will go to World Cup and we have to make you play by managing [your fitness]," Tamim said in the video posted on his Facebook page.

“He said, 'do one thing, you don't play the opening game against Afghanistan'. I told him, look there are still 10 to 12 days and in 12-13 days I will be in a good state so why I should not be playing? Then he said, 'If you play, we are planning to send you down the order.'”

"You have to understand I'm coming from which mindset. I played a good innings after a while (against New Zealand), and I was happy about it. But all of a sudden these kinds of words were not something that I could take," Tamim added.

<h2>‘I felt I was forced...’</h2>

Tamim said he expressed displeasure over this thought process, which made him uncomfortable on many grounds. The unclarity in the scheme of things in the lead-up to the World Cup caused unrest during the conversation, after which Tamim requested all parties concerned to keep him out of the World Cup.&nbsp;

"I am playing in the same position for the last 17 years and, I never batted at three or four. If I was batting at three or four and later my batting position was changed up and down, in that case, it could be adjusted. But I don't have any experience batting at three and four position. Certainly, I did not take it well. I was feeling that I am forced in a lot of areas willingly, like it is going well let's do something new [to irritate him]. That is what I was feeling."

In April this year, Tanzim shared a photo on his Facebook handle, which appeared from 1954, of a burqa-clad woman travelling in a rickshaw, possibly with her family, calling it the "golden past".&nbsp;

In another Facebook post, the date of which remains unknown, the 20-year-old wrote, "If you marry a girl who mingles freely in the university, you can't get your child a demure mother."

After these posts went viral on social media, they stirred quite a backlash in the country with women's rights activists, writers and journalists coming forward and criticising it.&nbsp;

<h2>‘He takes responsibility for this’</h2>

Yunus, the BCB director, claimed he spoke with Tanzim about this matter, and the seamer has taken full responsibility.&nbsp;

"The cricket operations committee spoke to Tanzim Sakib on behalf of the Bangladesh Cricket Board," Yunus said at a press conference at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday (Sep 19).&nbsp;

Yunus said Tanzim revealed he didn’t put out those posts to hurt anyone’s sentiments, and those words were not aimed at anyone either. He added that if anyone’s feelings got hurt, he will apologise to them.

"The media committee also got in touch with him. We informed Tanzim about the discussions surrounding his Facebook posts. He said that he didn't write those posts to hurt anyone. He wrote it for himself, not targeting anyone. If those posts have hurt anyone's feelings, he said he was sorry,” Yunus added.

The BCB Director added if in future&nbsp;Tanzim makes any such comments or posts anything misogynist anywhere, BCB would monitor him and take action against him if required.

"He said that the posts he has made about women, he takes full responsibility. He said that he is not a misogynist. We have warned him that if he posts something on Facebook in the future, the BCB will monitor him.

"We are keeping an eye on this area [his mindset]. We will monitor him. His family is concerned too. They didn't expect such a situation. They are also sorry. We have given him a warning because he is a young player, and a World Cup is ahead. If he does something like this again, we will take action against him. If there's a [psychological] problem, we will provide support,” he added.

Bangladesh have recalled senior players Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah for the first two ODIs of the upcoming three-match series against New Zealand. "The decision to rest players was taken in consideration of the World Cup in India, which will be a long tournament, and ensuring the mental and physical fitness of the cricketers will be very important," chief selector Minhajul Abedin said. "The series against New Zealand provides us an opportunity to take a look at some other players as well ahead of this major event.

"The squad is a blend of experience and youth, and only Zakir, Khaled and Rishad have not featured in ODIs yet. Zakir was very close to playing against Ireland in March before he suffered an unfortunate injury. Khaled has done well in his List A career, and Rishad offers a different dimension to our bowling attack."

The series against New Zealand will kickoff on September 21 in Mirpur with next two matches scheduled on September 23 and 26 on the same venue. The teams then fly to India for the ICC ODI World Cup which starts on October 5.

This forced him to withdraw from the series with Tanzim Sakib being the replacement for Asia Cup. It was initially expected that the 29-year-old would make the squad for the World Cup, but latest reports have seen him get ruled out of the World Cup.

Tamim is said to have conveyed his decision to step down as an ODI captain to Bangladesh Prime Minister on Thursday, following which he had extended discussions with BCB president Nazmul Hassan and cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus at Hassan's residence.

"I believe injury is an issue. I took an injection [on July 28], but it is like a hit or miss. I have told them [the board] about the problem. I have always helped the team over everything else. So keeping that in mind, stepping down is the best possible decision. I want to give my best as a player whenever the opportunity comes. I have spoken to the prime minister, and she understood," Tamim said.

<h2>‘His call (to step down) came as a shock’</h2>

Speaking on Tamim’s decision, Jalal said it came as shock for all, but understanding the reality surrounding it, Jalal revealed Tamim will undergo rehabilitation during the Asia Cup and aim for a comeback for New Zealand series and the World Cup in October-November.

"He (Tamim) has been suffering from an injury in his L4 and L5 in his back," Jalal said.

"Tamim has been in treatment for almost a year. He went abroad, consulted several doctors. Recently, he consulted a doctor in London.

"The diagnosis was that his pain is generating from L4 and L5 discs. He was given two injections. The second injection, given on July 28, relieved him of pain. He has been advised to rest for two weeks, till August 11, after which he will resume his rehab. But he can only return to the nets in another two weeks. By that time, we are leaving for Asia Cup, on August 26.

"If he undergoes surgery, returning [soon] will be very difficult. He is unlikely to do that, so we are expecting him to return for the New Zealand series,” Jalal added. 
 
Tamim also echoed the exact words, saying, “I want to play the New Zealand series in the best possible shape. We could have rushed it for the Asia Cup, but we are opting against it. I am very hopeful that I will be available for the World Cup."

South Africa named weakened Test squad for Bangladesh series as frontline players opt for IPL 2022

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday announced that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been rested from all forms of international cricket till April 30.

Shakib will now be missing Bangladesh's upcoming Test and ODI tour of South Africa, which is scheduled to be played between March 12 to April 8.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the BCB has not named a replacement for Shakib and, for now, the ODI squad will travel to South Africa without him.

Sri Lanka Friday named Chandika Hathurusingha as their new head coach with the mission of ending the national team`s crisis run in international cricket.&nbsp;

The Sri Lankan resigned in October as Bangladesh`s coach after guiding the national team through their most successful period in his three years in charge, masterminding Test wins over England and Australia.

He takes over a side that was hammered in Tests by India in home and away series this year and has played poorly in one-day games.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said Hathurusingha, 49, will take over the national side from December 20. That means he will take charge of the team for the T20 games that end their current tour in India.

The Sri Lanka post has been vacant since South African Graham Ford quit in June. Nic Pothas has been the interim coach.

Under Hathurusingha, Bangladesh made rapid strides in world cricket, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy tournament in England this year. He was only criticised after Bangladesh`s recent tour of South Africa, where the team failed to register a single win.
